My boyfriend and I visited La Tara for the first time today, 3/28/25, around 1:15 PM. We were the only customers there for a while, so it was very quiet and calm -- definitely a peaceful atmosphere. We started with water and then ordered two alcoholic drinks each. For an appetizer, we got the spinach artichoke dip. It was okay -- pretty average. It tasted mostly like cream cheese, so if that's your thing, you'll probably enjoy it. It wasn't bad, though -- we did finish it. My boyfriend had the fish tacos and said they were phenomenal. I, on the other hand, ordered the half chicken, which was unfortunately way overcooked and really tough to chew. For sides, the zucchini was excellent, but the "loaded mac n cheese" was horrible -- easily the worst part of the meal. I actually had to send it back. They did take the chicken dish off our bill, which I appreciated, but we still somehow ended up with a $90 lunch bill -- for just one meal, an appetizer, and a couple of drinks. We stumbled across this place when we were out riding our motorcycle in the area. It looked nice from the outside so thought we would give it a try. It was super quiet for a Saturday lunchtime but my husband wanted to watch the football game so we sat at the bar. We both had a sangria to drink which was delicious and we had the spicy rock shrimp to start which was full of flavor. So we split the French dip sandwich for lunch it was made with prime rib, cooked medium and was soo good also the fries were great crispy and seasoned. We finished up with the chocolate bread pudding which was good too the vanilla ice cream and Oreo chunks made it special. Our server was nice and the food came out fast. This place really surprised me. It's a small American/ Italian style restaurant. The food was pretty good. Very family friendly. I liked the bar area and they do special events and specials. Like brunch- $3 mimosas, $2 off happy hour during the week and other sport and private events. Our server was nice but I would have liked a little more interaction. She didn't really help with the menu or be over friendly. One thing that threw me off was the layout. I felt the way the tables were arranged was a bit odd. It was pretty empty and felt really quiet. I would have preferred them keep us all in one section of the restaurant rather than spread us out. I think they could work on the lighting and atmosphere. For the most part our food was pretty good. I was a bit disappointed that my steak came out practically well done when I ordered medium rare. Despite the mistake in the kitchen the steak was still very tender. Overall pretty decent place being a neighborhood restaurant. I did think some of the prices for food were a bit high. Especially bc the atmosphere wasn't very fancy or decorated high end. read more

going out of business soon - i bet no no no no no no no do not go!!!!!!!!!!! expensive over priced food. waistress was unpleasant. charged for every extra condiment you order including ketchup. yes you heard me...... ketchup..... we actually asked to talk with the owner as we got charged for 3 extra condiments even though we removed 2 from our meal and added horseradish and ketchup. i have no words for how the owner behaved. no wonder the place was empty. she argued with us saying "so if you ordered 10 extras do you not think you should pay for those" she was rude and demeaning and insulting and told us we were lucky she didn't charge us for splitting a plate. omg i have not yet ever in texas been charged to split a plate. especially at $22.66 (before tax) for a sandwich. we ordered the extra condiments when we placed our order. at no point did the waitress advise us that these would be an extra charge. after receiving the bill, we then asked for her to show us on the menu where it tells you that you will be charged for every extra condiment. she refused to answer as obviously it's not on the menu for you to see. this type of penny pinching is unacceptable..... beware of hidden charges good luck y'all going to need it Update: Thanks for your response. We had been given the heads up that it was on the pricier side, so we expected that. We were the only ones to walk inside at 11:30 (they open at 11) and the lady didn't act overly glad for our service. Maybe their Mother's Day was too crazy and she didn't want to show back up today. Who knows, but she did seat us and take our drink orders immediately. Hubby ordered the French Dip ($18, I think) and it was actually really good! I ate a few bites and commented that the dip tasted fresh and had good flavor. Best I've tasted tbh. I ordered the Turkey Melt ($16) and ended up taking off the radicchio (red cabbage) as it had a strong flavor I didn't like. Both came with homemade fries. So the food was great! It costs more than you would think for the area it's located, we assume it's because it's also a bar/grill. I am glad to have finally given LeTara a try and was pleased with the meal but I'm not sure we will be back. Who knows though? I may get into a mood the spend $45 on lunch for two again. My husband and I stopped in for a late afternoon lunch and absolutely loved everything about our experience. I began with an aperol spritz which I thought was better than ones I had when I visited Italy. Then we ordered the fried oysters and artichokes for appetizers, and they were both incredibly tasty. For the entrees, my husband had the Reuben, and I had the veggie burger, and we both were very satisfied. I also enjoyed the best French 75 I believe I've ever had. This is a locals joint. You need to know this! You REALLY need to know this! We are not locals. The manager, the cooks, the wait staff and other back of house employees came out and spoke with almost every single table except us. They carried on conversations, and asked about each other's kids. They all knew each other by name. We did not know anyone by name, and they did not know ours until they read my credit card. The food took over an hour to get to the table. That's not always a bad thing when it's fantastic, and it wasn't. It's also understandable when there's a full house, but they all came in (and ordered) after us... we walked into an almost empty building. (and several other reviews on here mention the slow service as well). I feel there was a celebration about to begin in the back room, and maybe that's where all the attention has been focused. Then again several other reviews mention staffing issues, etc. To be blunt, it was overpriced, and we were made to feel like outsiders. We found this place through a yelp search and they had pretty good reviews. Easy parking. We came here for lunch around noon on a Tuesday. They have an outdoor seating area, but it wasn't set up. I'm not sure how often it's used since it's around 95 degrees outside. The restaurant was pretty empty. We ordered the grilled artichoke, LeTara Cobb salad and the crab cake salad. Very very disappointed. I've been eyeballing this place for a couple of months now.. we decided to try it out for Valentine's date. I was expecting a long wait to begin with. But not a long wait with terrible customer service. I am a very patient and understanding person. So is my husband. We got there and were told it would be about a 15 min wait. No problem, understandable. About 5 mins later we were seated. I'm thinking "oh wow! Not bad" About 15 mins pass and they finally ask for our drinks. Another 10 mins pass and they finally come back with our drinks and to take our order I ordered a crab salad, my husband ordered a burger and my daughters chicken fingers and grilled cheese... Literally over an hour passes and still no food, our drinks have now been empty for about 40 mins (not once did they stop by and ask if we needed refills) I overhear the table across from us complaining about their two hour wait and how they forgot one of their meals... (btw kudos to them for keeping their cool because I know they were getting frustrated.. also their kids food came last! Whaaattttt) The table next to us is also frustrated and the poor lady in red at another table was beyond frustrated! I would have been ok IF SOMEONE WOULD HAVE STOPPED BY AND APOLOGIZED FOR THE WAIT SOONER OR ASKED IF WE NEEDED A DRINK BECAUSE I COULD HAVE REALLY USED ONE AT THIS POINT. But our server finally came to our table, not to ask if we needed a refil, but to finally apologize for the long wait (literally an hour and 45 minutes in) and to let us know it'd be about another 10 mins. At this point my kids were crying because they were tired and hungry and thirsty. I asked for our bill for the drinks. They didn't bring our check out right away so we left whatever we had cash. I'm sorry but I was not gonna waste another minute here. I was beyond frustrated and annoyed. Like I said I would have been ok and a tad bit more patient if the customer service was ok. My sister came to visit from Los Angeles (Belair), she is very blessed financiall. I mentioned La Tara Restaurant because she had been staying in a Hotel, yet eating fast food. My sister has eaten at "The Best of The Best Restaurants"! After she had dinner there... she said she would eat here "Everyday"! The quality of the food and the chef is amazing. We must have come on and off day. We ordered two blackened chicken sandwiches and the reuben. The reuben was sub par and very dry, heavy on dijon mustard. More like a pastrami deli sandwich than a reuben. The blackened chicken sandwiches weren't blackened just seared with minimal seasoning. Fries on all were seasoned well but the inconsistent size of the fries led to some being overdone and some underdone. A friend and I tried out LeTara Grill this past weekend. We were really excited since we had heard great things, and overall we thought the food was good but the atmosphere and service were lacking. Food- Depending on what you get, the food is somewhere between good and great. I had the hickory burger and thought it was fantastic. I was a little nervous about Canadian bacon on my burger, but this was good quality and all of the flavors meshed really well. My one critique is that I am NOT a fan of the mountain of cold cheese served with it. Sure, it looks impressive, but execution wise it is just supbar to melting the cheese on the patty. Because it was cold and on the bun, it never really melted and just kept falling out all over the place. I ended up just dumping a bunch of it out to make it easier to eat. My friend ordered the French dip with a side of loaded mac & cheese. She said the sandwich was pretty good but the mac & cheese was meh. I tried a few bites and I have to agree. I'm glad I stuck with fries. Service- Maybe it was just the night we came, but it was really slow. It took forever for the waiter to check on us. I don't think either of us got a single drink refill and I desperately needed more water at the end. We had to flag him down for the check. It was pretty empty in there too so I'm not sure why this was the case. Ambiance- This was also surprisingly....not good. Looking at pictures, it seems this place is really pretty in the day with all the windows and natural lighting. At night, it seems to be a different story. The lighting is too bright and unflattering. We were sat in a side room near the bar that seemed to have little or no music or background noise. It was only 7 but the restaurant appeared less than half full. We felt a little awkward trying to talk when everything we said echoed in the quiet, half empty room. For the price of the food, I just anticipated a nicer atmosphere. Perhaps it's better if you get to sit in the main dining area. Overall, I think the food is good, but the experience just isn't quite worth the price yet. Fifteen dollar burgers and market price steaks and seafood just seem disconnected from the restaurant itself. I think that if they improve the atmosphere and service, I would be willing to give this place another try. read more

It was surprisingly good! We had originally planned on going to the Thai place nearby only to find out it's a take-out only restaurant. So we googled searched a nearby place and this is how we ended up here for lunch today. I was not impressed with the menu since it seemed like a typical American Grill & Bar menu such as burgers and steaks and I'm not a big meat eater. However, there were a few Mexican fare choices and my friend and I ended up sharing Fish Tacos and Chicken Enchiladas. Both dish were great! Mahi Mahi was seasoned and cooked excellent and the mole sauce on the enchilada was perfect too. Let me tell you we did not leave anything left on our plates!
