After our sunrise walk on the beach we were famished and spotted Lester's dinner. We noticed only a couple cars parked out at 8am and thought why not. Glad we did. Never been to Lester's before and was very pleasantly surprised. Super clean, the staff were masked up and ready to sit us wherever we pleased (marked seating of course). We chose the patio and enjoyed their amazing coffee while we browsed the menu. I drink my coffee black and very rarely you find a great bleack brew. Lester's scored points here for me Now on to the meals. We ordered their weekend special - tropical omelette with ham, cheese, avocado and pineapple. Don't underestimate how that may have sounded, it was pretty good. I especially enjoyed their well cooked grits. The hubs ordered their 2-2-2 and heard no complaints coming from that side of the table. My husband and I went to Lester's on Atlantic this past Saturday for breakfast. After being seated and placing our order of a coffee and water the waitress came back and handed us our drinks. My husband added sugar to his coffee and started to stir when he felt as if something was at the bottom of the cup and sure it enough there was - it was literal TRASH. I have no idea what went through the waitress mind to fill a coffee cup when it has trash in it or what the thought process was but I am absolutely disgusted. I've been going to Lester's Diner for 55 years, since 1969. I have never had a bad experience or a bad meal there - ever. The staff is always friendly which has a lot to say about good management creating and maintaining a good work environment. I bravely ordered salmon there once, bravely because one doesn't expect to see filet of salmon on a coffee shop menu. It was delicious - better than some fancy expensive places. Good old Lester's! For me a big plus was that this diner offered higher quality sausages than some of its competitors and you can never have too much sausage. My local Breakfast joints in HOUSTON could take a lesson from Lester's. We had a group of 10 come for breakfast. Lester's is an old school dinner style restaurant. Right with waitresses calling you honey. I was looking for Flo. There's usually a wait for seating, but our group was probably held up for about 10 minutes. We were promptly greeted and coffee & drink orders were taken and served promptly. Nice and hot I ordered Lester's signature skillet. Eggs any style. Crispy hash-browns and the best corned beef hash I've had in years. Served piping hot. In fact all our meals were served simultaneously. That's a nifty trick with 10 diners. If you want an English muffin it's an extra buck (I thought that was silly), but you can also get white, rye & whole wheat bread. Lester's isn't cheap. Skillets can run $14. Regular omelets are closer to $10. Worth every penny. In fact, the skillets large enough to share. If we were staying longer, I'd be back for lunch. We just found out that this Lester's location was open after 4pm again, just by chance. We missed going there most Friday evenings, so it was a pleasant surprise for sure.
