I went into Leslie's Pool Supply today around 12:30 PM looking to purchase a new high end pool cleaner, specifically one with a translucent hose. Upon entering the store, I was greeted by a very kind young man named Caleb. He explained he didn't actually work at that location but would gladly go find someone to help me. When he went toward the back of the store, he politely asked a female employee questions about the pool cleaners on my behalf. Her response toward both him and myself was surprisingly rude. She rolled her eyes, gave a very dismissive backhanded response, and walked away. I was honestly so shocked by the interaction that I asked for her name afterward. Despite clearly not being familiar with the store layout, he still took the time to walk me around and help point out several of the high end cleaners I was interested in. He was patient, respectful, and genuinely trying to help. While continuing to browse, I then witnessed the same employee, Carli, giving an older gentleman attitude while he was checking out at the register. I took this picture as I was so surprised!!! After paying, he politely asked why his rewards had not been applied. Without even turning around to face him, she replied something along the lines of, "They'll probably be on there next time." He looked genuinely surprised and upset by the response, gathered his items, and walked out. I rarely leave negative reviews, but after reading other recent Yelp reviews, including one from Rob J mentioning a female employee's rude behavior regarding a veterans discount, I felt compelled to share my experience as well. I've been shopping at Leslie's for over 30 years and came in prepared to purchase a premium pool cleaner. Customer service matters, especially at a long standing business. Leslie's should be proud to have employees like Caleb representing them and should seriously address the behavior of others who are driving loyal customers away like this gal. read more

Pretty frustrating experience. I dropped off my pool cleaner for repair. They have free labor as long as you buy their parts which are a bit more expensive than other places. These are simple repairs and usually done same day or next day. I came back in 3 days and my cleaner had not been looked at yet. They told me sorry and they'd fix it next day. This pattern continued every day for a week. I kept coming back and they kept telling me a new excuse like they didn't have the parts and I needed to bring them in, then a screw was stuck (it wasn't and I easily unscrewed it), and then the cleaner fixer called out for a week. They also told me they'd call me with updates which never happened. Ultimately, a week later, they gave me my cleaner back in a box in a million parts because they couldn't figure out how to fix it or how to put it back together. I wish they would've just told me they didn't know how to fix it the first day instead of keeping my cleaner for a week while my pool collected leaves. One employee Sarah was at least nice when I went in. The other girl was pretty rude and dismissive. My jacuzzi pump broke, so I ordered a replacement from Amazon and called Leslie's to swap it out. Made sure they were aware I had the pump already in hand. They assured me it was not a problem and booked the service call. The technician arrives and refuses to do the work. He insists they will only work with their own parts, however they do not carry that common $200 pump, and that he will only REBUILD the entire system for $2,000. First time I went there 4 years ago trying to spend thousands of dollars on a pool heater and the guy told me to leave the store because I wasn't wearing a mask. I tried explaining that I couldn't come in until Friday, he said he didn't accept phone payment. And he couldn't hold it. Pretty much just didn't want to talk to me. I will NEVER set a foot inside this store again. Today was my third time there over the past five years and all have been troublesome. My first visit was five years ago when I just bought a new spa. They oversold me about $50 in stuff I did not need. My spa guy said, "you must have went to Leslie's!" My second visit was about a year ago. I needed my water tested. The woman clerk was waiting on another customer. Fine, I understand. I'll wait. However, she then had a personal conversation with this customer for at least four minutes. She knows I'm waiting but didn't care. My third visit was a half-hour ago. There were no customers in the store. The man asked what I wanted. I told him chlorine granules, non-chlorine shock, chlorine test strips, and a vacuum tube to suck the leaves out of my spa. He remained leaning on his counter and pointed to an area of the store that had what I wanted. I went left and he said, "wrong way." I went right and he said, "too far!" This went on for about a minute. He was barking out brands to look for and when I picked up the wrong one, he would just say, "not that one!." He was only about eight feet away but obviously felt leaning on his counter was more important than helping a customer. I was ready to spend about $200. I am absolutely done with this store even though it's just a half mile from my home. I'll take my business somewhere else rather than deal with them. read more

I went in with a friend who bought a home with an existing hot tub. We were fortunate that assistant manager Ashley was working that day. She was very friendly and gave excellent advice on disinfecting, draining, cleaning and refilling his spa with fresh water. She did not try to oversell anything, and she gave honest and accurate information about how to maintain his new hot tub. Friendly, Reliable & Knowledgeable I have been dealing with Leslie's for many years. I use them for onsite repairs and store shopping. My favorite store is this one on Pomerado Road in Poway. They have great quality pool supplies, pool toys for the kids and knowledgeable staff Jeff Osgood is the manager and he is basically the reason to go there. I know Jeff for ages and he is an encyclopedia on pool and spa! I often discuss various issues with him; we argue and discuss pool technical issues and various chemical needs for hours. Brandy is also very helpful and knowledgeable. Leslie's has a great selection of parts and if they do not have it in the store, then you can order it from different catalogues. They will have your part in the store in no time. They have a great selection of vacuums, robotic vacuums and pumps on hand. They are good for certain chemicals and I always purchase certain chemicals from them. They have top quality chemicals. Once a while you should take a water sample to them and they do a major chemical checkup. The way they do tests are more general and in a wider range than what you do at home. For instance they measure your TDS (Total Dissolvable Solids) which you need to purchase special equipment to do, but they do the water test for free and it is a test to the detail (Complete Test of all chemicals). Then they analyze it, discuss it and recommend what to do and what to buy for your needs. Leslie's has a good selection of pool toys and games for kids. The kids love to shop there. They have technical consultants for every issue which you may have with your pool and spa. You got a problem, they got the solution. They have trouble shooting staff in the store and they have knowledgeable repair staff to fix everything you need with your pool or spa at your house. They sell and install everything from minor parts to pumps. I strongly recommend Leslie's and specifically this store in Poway. Leslie's is a good contractor to hire and a fine place to shop for your pool and spa needs. read more

Would give ZERO stars if I could. Placed an online order for instore pick up, the email said ready same day. Drove about 20 miles to the only store that had this product. When I walked in there was only one employee and he was busy so I waited patiently. After waiting 20 mins he was finally available. The person who was helping was named JEFF, I showed him the email that says my order is ready for pick up and he completely ignored the fact that the email said SAME DAY PICK UP and it said my order was ready. He claims he never got an email on his side about my order and he CANNOT process it even though I had already paid and I could see he had 50+ of the product I needed. He proceeded to be extremely rude to me and told me he will not give me my product even though I paid and email said same day pick up. He forced me to buy another product. Jackson Dr. La Mesa, Got to the point where their water testing couldn't be trusted. I began testing my samples prior to theirs to compare. They were VERY INCONSISTENT!!! All they want to do is sell chemicals you do not need at their over priced rates. I feel as this is intentional, probably commissioned sales. They are also rude when pointed to their mistakes. They will retest when confronted, although once I got the double attitude worse results. Looking at all the other poor reviews in general of other locations, it appears I'm not the only unsatisfied customer that will go out of my way to do business elsewhere. I will NOT do business with Leslie's anymore. This is the short version, the straw that broke the camel's back as the numerous minor issues are a moot point. Leslie's? Try MoreLies. How does someone stay in business by defrauding their customers? We first contracted with MoreLies to service our filter and pump in January, a service that was supposed to include the complete cleaning of our filter panels, a service which according to them should last a year. The kid they sent out, Andrew, seemed nice enough. HOWEVER, while securing the top of the filter housing in place, he told us we needed a "new O-ring" because the large barrel nut that holds the O-ring in place would not screw down on the threads, citing 'damage' to the threads as the cause. I told him we would use a tap-and-dye set to rethread the bolt. He said he would first look for a replacement nut and took the original nut with him, only to call us two days later to inform us he had already ordered the new (and unnecessary!) $100 part. I called him and told him to cancel the order. When he returned the next day - with the nut he had taken with him so we couldn't reattach it ourselves - it went right on and threaded (and tightened) without issue. He had lied to us. We let it go, content with the fact our pump and filter were working normally again. Which lasted all of 2 1/2 months. When we began experiencing the SAME problem to a GREATER degree than we had BEFORE the initial service, we called Leslie's back to demand they make the problem right. Which brings me to today. Today, we were visited by someone with years in the business, someone from Leslie's named Steve. All we wanted was for them to rectify their negligent service. However, Leslie's Pools had something else in mind... Steve again, as had Andrew, disassembled our filter. He removed each panel and began hosing it down. However, ten minutes later, he called for me to show me how the water was collecting in the filters without draining properly. He explained that this meant the pressure would build up in the pump, which imapcted the effectiveness of the suction from the skimmer and crawler. He then went on to state - declaritively - that this was due to "calcium deposits in the filter" resulting from the loss of our filter medium (DE) that occurred everytime we backwashed the filter. He concluded we had no choice but to REPLACE our filter panels, which of course require 'special order' to the tune of hundreds of dollars. HOWEVER... When I skeptically took one of the panels he said needed to be replaced, and hosed it off myself - using this newfangled technological innovation called a GARDEN HOSE - it magically became clean and drained perfectly. TWO MINUTES and the filter panel was working like new... TWO MINUTES. I cleaned two more the same way (each that supposedly needed to be replaced), and then disgustingly demanded he clean them as well as I did. It was amazing how after I caught him LYING to us, the panels he (re)cleaned suddenly drained perfectly as well. But what PISSES THE F#@& OUT OF ME is that not once - but TWICE - on their ONLY two visits - they tried to defraud us out of money for parts and services we don't need. I find it hard to believe this is a coincidence. We will be contacting the BBB and the San Diego DA's office to file complaints against them for their attempts at fraud. And here's the kicker - when I called to complain to "Jeff," the manager of the location that TWICE sent us technicians who in turn each lied to us and tried to steal our money - he first denied any accountability, saying the technicians did not work for Leslie's, even though they show up in trucks with "Leslie's" on the doors and "Leslie's" labels on their shirts, and then while repeating this, had the nerve to condescendingly say, "let me try to make this as. simple. as. possible. for. you." And when I told him I expected an answer to explain this hor$es#!t, he responded not by addressing the issue, but instead by enumerating the numer of times (three) I had sworn during our conversation. Goddman right I'm going to swear! YOU send this lying POS to OUR house, who looks me in the face and LIES to me about a non-existent problem to try to upsell us on a set of $500 filter panels we don't need - a repeat of the same goddman experience we had 2 1/2 months earlier! I have actually found the service here to be good however I've nver used their water testing and have always had a purpose for going in. I stopped in last weekend to get some supplies for my pool vacumm and was helped immediately. Wasn't exactly certain what I needed but had an idea. The sales representitive confirmed my idea, gave me what I needed and I was out the door. This place is way overpriced though. You could find what you're looking for on the web at a much better price (as with most things) however if you have questions, they can answer anything you have. read more

Was looking forward to picking up a 1/2" float, was told that they have a certain size (1/2") available and in stock in the store. Drove 20 miles, arrived on site to find the size they carry was NOT the size I needed. The size they have in stock is 3/8" inch, not 1/2" inch like I asked for. I wish the store manager had told me he was unsure of the size he carried and I would have made an appropriate decision to go elsewhere. Or if he took the time to measure the part versus just making an assumption it would've been helpful as well. It was a complete waste of time, energy, and money. On top of it, the gentleman did not apologize for wasting my time once I was in the store. He just said, "this is all I carry". The main reason I am giving one star is because the store manager assured me he had half-inch when I double checked with him on the phone before I drove down. He claims he gets the best advice from Jeff & his staff. Two weeks ago I made my first visit after I noticed the pool creeper hadn't been working for over a week. My frustrated husband said take it down to Leslie's but be prepared to buy a new one. I showed it to Jeff thinking I was saying give me another just like this one, but within 3 minutes, Jeff has it opened/repaired. This is the first time I have been at this location. The service was sooooo low and they had two people at the counter. The young man was helping people test their water and no one said to wait for the lady who was there if you just wanted to purchase something. I along with three other people stood in line for 15 minutes while water was being tested. The young man finally said if you are here just to purchase, he would help us on the other side of the counter. We moved over and after the person in front of me was helped, I asked if they had the chemical of the empty bottle I had brought in. He said it is one the shelf "over there". I told him I could not find it as I had looked. He then went over and he said, "we do not carry it". Never said who might carry it etc. I then drove to Dale's Pool Supply in Poway. Dale did not have it but said, "I will order it for you". Now, that is customer service. If you want a person that really care's to help, drive to Dale's. Then he needed some additional information from Erick. This was one of the worse service I got in my life. I was ignored and was treated with indifference like never before in my life. There were a few customers in front of me. He answered their questions in detail and was very knowledgeable. I actually learned a lot just by eavesdropping on their conversations.
