So, earlier this year I realized I needed to have my pool replastered. I got pricing from 7 different companies. Gammon Pools was not the least expensive, nor were they the most expensive bid. They were right in the middle. What made me choose them is the presentation and professionalism. They also came recommended by East Mountain Pool Supplies. They offered a written proposal and insurance documentation without being asked. I looked at the CSLB website and their license and workman's compensation were all in place. The office personnel were in place and were great in communication through email, phone and in person. As far as the job went, Eric took or returned all my calls. The communication was superb. Eric really knows his stuff and always had an answer to all my questions. The quality of work is amazing and I can't be happier with how it turned out. Think twice before you use this company to resurface your pool. They do not warranty or guarantee their work. We had our entire pool gutted 2 1/2 years ago and we already have rust spots which they will not fix. Feels like when you remodeled a pool, it should last more than just 2 1/2 years. We did not patch our pool, we drained it, took the entire surface off. And had it completely resurfaced, & tiled. Our pool had cracked, broken tile and coping plus we have been unhappy with the pebble coating since having the pool was installed. 25 years ago, we selected a brown pebble color and didn't realize brown plus blue water equals green...so even when the water was clean, it still looked green. Finally we have a blue pool! Eric worked closely with us to make sure we selected the best options for tile and pebble, plus he had an auto-fill installed. We hired Gammon Pools to resurface my 13-year old pool with PebbleTec. We hired them as my friend who had recently had his pool built by another pool company told me that the other pool company had brought in Gammon to do the PebbleTec surface. I figured they must be the experts then, and figured I'll go straight to them without any middlemen. We were on a schedule as we had a big party coming up, and didn't want to risk the project being under way during the party. Don promised that Gammon would get the project done in time, and they did. After draining the pool, they took two days to get the plaster off, then two days to fix the coping and the rust spots the pool had due to mistakes of the original builder. Then one day to do the PebbleTec, and one day to acid wash and finish off everything. So six working days and total ten calendar days (weekend + two off days) from beginning to end, and the pool was ready one week before my party. Another friend of mine had had a bad experience with another company, as that company had not washed off the excess plaster properly after applying PebbleTec. As result, his pool ended up streaky/blotchy to the point where the work had to be redone. I was concerned on how this stage would go for me. The day PebbleTec was applied, Gammon showed up with six guys, which is key as you need enough manpower to do this stage quickly before the plaster dries off too much. As I watched them, I saw they clearly knew what they were doing, and end-result was perfect. The Gammon crew always cleaned up before they left each day, which I appreciated. I was warned against the gruffness and attitude from others who used them but my early experiences were very positive and I always have a good relationship with contractors. Had a great experience with Eric and a wonderfully helpful conversation with Yvette. Everything then went bizarrely downhill. I planned to use them but significant communication issues with the front office necessitated me to go elsewhere. Couldn't get a schedule date, couldn't finalize the contract. Called and politely explained I was not getting emails and got an attitude. Promises to order and provide material were not met. I get that people have bad days sometimes but in the end, it could not be resolved as it was more important for them to defensively lay blame than fix the problem - which was on their end. I had to consider that if this treatment happened before work started, what will I suffer if there is a problem that needs to be worked out during the job? I was really hoping to like Gammon Pools after reading all the positive comments. I invited Don to submit a bid for a pool resurfacing with separate line items for other projects, including the conversion of an attached "kiddie pool" into a jacuzzi. While I knew this would be pricey, I asked Don to propose a bid for it nonetheless as we are seriously considering this conversion. Upon meeting Don, his attitude seemed to be "no" on everything I asked about. He did warn me that the jacuzzi portion would be pricey, which I said I knew. I waited for a bid and finally had to call him to get a status update. His response, "Just so you know, I'm not doing the jacuzzi." Funny thing is, I've gotten several other bids and they are all happy to do the work and eagerly provided a quote. Ironically, still no bid for the rest of the work either from Gammon. Gammon Pools completed the remodel of our 1995 pool in Feb 2020. We wanted a contractor that had experience with all aspects of a pool remodel. In addition to resurfacing the pool with a new pollished pebble finish, we had them replace all the old brick coping with Silver Travertine bullnose coping, remove and replace new waterline and above grade tiles, add an additional stairway exit to the opposite end of the pool, replace the lighting, and build a baja shelf and entry step into the west end of the pool. I was also able to coordinate the replacement of the concrete deck around the pool with a contractor of my own choosing and worked with representatives from Gammon to add a gas heater which will extend our swimming season. Its true what other reviewers say about the excellent quality of workmanship and honoring their committment to complete the job to the satisfaction of the homeowner. I shopped all the replaster companies and after doing so, found a perfect fit with Gammon Pools. The owner, Donnie Gammon, is a real positive, can do type of guy. Didn't find this attitude with the 6 other companies I had come out. And I was by no means, an easy customer. Very picky, changed my mind a couple of times, and still found Donnie and his office manager, Ashely, handling this very well. No attitude problems or expression of impatience. Both Ashely and Donnie worked with me to chose waterline tile and step trim tile, an made sure I saw prior pool jobs so I could make an educated decision on what mini pebble finish to go with. One pool finish hit my eye...perfect blue water color and great looking surface color when viewing the shallow parts (spa and baja shelf). The crew demo'd my old pool in only about 6 hours, and the finishing crew came afterwards and got the finish on in perfect form. Again, it's all about customer service...and frankly, none of the other pool companies impressed me either with their initial presentation or their personalities. And that impression was what the other pool job referral ppl had to say about Donnie and his staff/crew as well. One final and very important comment...he was competitively priced to boot. Donnie and team did a great job in removing faulty glass tile and replacing it with ceramic tile. Process took a month or so to schedule and a week and a half to complete. We are pleased with the workmanship. This was not a big job and we had several contractors drag their feet on bidding and committing to the job. They answered all the questions in a very friendly manner. Before choosing a contractor I contacted 10 different pool companies. Only half answered, and only 2 ended up as serious contenders. Gammon won because they came closer to giving us a proposal that was what we wanted without trying to sell us extra stuff, and because they could do the work immediately. If there's one complaint I'd have it's that I didn't like the tone of the emails from their billing person. We paid everything exactly on time, showing up in person to give them checks, but we got emails lecturing us on our obligation to pay on time. Don Gammon and his crew just replastered our 24 year old pool with an exposed colored aggregate mini pebble finish, some tile repair/replacement and applied new mastic. From the included draining to the included complete chemical start-up the entire project took only a week and the results are spectacular. We were impressed by by their knowledge, expertise, attention to detail and outstanding clean-up after each phase of the project.
