After receiving 4 bids for pool & spa resurfacing & renovations, we chose Capstone. A neighbor had used Capstone & they were very happy with their finished product, which helped us make our decision. We resurfaced, re-tiled, reset the coping, split the drains, changed out the lights in both the pool & spa, & shallowed the deep end from 9ft to 5 1/2 ft, & created a longer bench in the deeper end of the pool. For the resurfacing we used Tropics Blue Mini Pebble, recommended by Shelby, our amazing Project Coordinator, & we love it! It actually looks a little different throughout the day depending on the amount of sunlight. The entire Capstone team is impressive! They make you feel like you are their only client. Travis came out to give us our estimate & was great at suggestions to help us reach our vision & stay within budget. Aubrey & Shelby were incredible at communication regarding scheduling, responding to the many questions we had about the details, & when any issues arose, communicating to the team. Capstone Pool & Spa just finished a MAJOR project to refinish my pool and replace ALL the concrete in the back yard. To say that such a project is a major undertaking is truly an understatement. John was our project manager (juggling ours plus many other projects this summer) and did an excellent job of keeping track of where we were in our project as time and tasks progressed. We chose poured concrete coping, top-cast finish for coping and deck and StoneScapes Aqua Cool pebble finish. We also had them raise the wall on the in-pool spa so that the coping runs around the top of the spa at the same height as the rest of the coping with a small spillway to circulate the water back into the pool. We had them plum a separate intake for the pool vacuum so water is drawn in through both the skimmer and the pool sweep. And we added an auto-fill so we no longer have to remember to fill the pool. I am very happy with all the design choices we made; John was a great help with those decisions. There must have been at least 30 different people working on our project during the 3-month duration. Every one of the resources were professional, polite and most of all took great care to keep our back yard cleaned up and safe after each day's work. I don't know if any of you have had ALL your concrete decking demo'd, but it looked like a bomb went off after the jackhammering was done and before all the concrete rubble was removed. BUT John's crew got it all removed (plus some extra rubble we had lying around in our yard) and smoothed the dirt out so we could safely walk in the back yard. The tile work was impeccable; AJ was very detail oriented and lined all the patterns up beautifully. Frankie was the best pool electrician/plumber and was very patient with all my questions and concerns. He also took the time to handle small details that he thought should be done, like fitting a board back in my fence that had to be removed for a new gas line that was put in. At the end there were several small things to finish up, I created a list for John and he diligently worked through all of them. We hired Capstone to renovate our pool a few years ago. The project included replacing the original plaster with PebbleTec, installing new waterline tile, and refinishing the rocks, waterfall, and slide, and new pool lights. Their office staff communicated well throughout the process, but unfortunately the workmanship has resulted in ongoing problems. They have returned approximately five times to address issues, yet we continue to have concerns. One major problem was that the area where the new tile met the skimmer box was never properly sealed, causing the pool to leak. We were told we needed to pay to have the leak detected, so we ultimately fixed the issue ourselves. The pool lights did not work. The paint used on the rocks has also proven to be very poor quality. It continually peels off, exposing the gray primer underneath, making the pool look worn despite only being a few years old. The PebbleTec finish is extremely rough--so rough that it has caused our children's feet to bleed while swimming. We expected a durable, professionally finished pool, not one that has required repeated repairs and still isn't comfortable to use. While the communication from their team was good, the quality of the work did not meet our expectations, and we cannot recommend them based on our experience. read more

BUYER BEWARE - We were initially happy with how our pool turned out, but the experience with Capstone was a complete disaster. Their contractors repeatedly poured grout and concrete down our cleanout and city sewer line--despite us explicitly telling them NOT to do so. This negligence caused massive damage, requiring our entire street to be ripped up and city lines to be redone. During the project (which took a year), we had to repair our line from our house to the street twice while Capstone was working. After the first repair, we caught them on camera continuing to pour waste into the cleanout the same week! As a result, we were left without water for a week and couldn't live in our own home. To make matters worse, Capstone completely ghosted us when we needed help. The owner showed up once, blamed us for the issue, and never followed up. I am going to the trouble of writing this because I was so impressed with this pool company. I interviewed a lot of companies and private contractor guys. I finally chose Capstone to do a complete resurface and tile job as well as new plumbing and pump and heater. I am glad I did. While interviewing companies, my wife and I went to the tile store all pool companies use here in San Diego to pick out the new tile we were going to use, and that was my first clue these guys were the ones. The lady at NPT Tile said Capstone really has an organized company. So, I took a harder look at them and finally after talking to many companies pulled the trigger to work with them. Each one of their teams headed by a separate foreman were all great to work with as they came in to do first, demo on pool plaster and tile, then plumbing and electrical, then tile team did great job with tiling pool and spa, then plaster team, then they contract with another pool water service company to balance and clean the new plaster in the newly filled pool. When they are done in my case, I needed new mastic done around pool edge and they finished doing that. Each foreman of every team was great to work with. I want to point out Frankie, the plumber and Electrician, and his assistant. They were great and came up with some creative ideas to fix a complicated issue I had even though it meant a little extra work. Everything the company said they were going to do when they said it would happen they did. Amanda or Aubrey would call to explain a delay of a day or so because of weather. I felt they were on it the whole time. I have since learned that they are a family run business and I think that's why it feels so organized and smooth an operation. It is hard to find the right company when building or fixing your pool. It is a lot of money and big disruption, so for those of us that do our research before hiring, let me save you some trouble and recommend Capstone. My pool suffered fifteen cracks after the pool had been empty for a year. Long story that I won't bore you with. I called three companies for estimates. it was clear that Capstone was heads and tails above the others. There was no hard sale, the giant crack didn't seem to phase them, and they took the time to explain the process and timeframe. We scheduled the demo and to my surprise, they were able to actually start weeks earlier. They texted each day to let me know when they would arrive and the work they would accomplish. The supervisor made a point to meet with me and introduce me to the crew. He visited almost daily to check on the progress and came by after the crew left to plan for the next day. The office staff were amazing. They called to inform me of timing, planning, and walk me through decisions that had to be made. They communicated with me via phone, text, and email, so that no matter my schedule, we were able to keep progress moving forward. The crew were spectacular. They took care to cover my new concrete while they worked. When my skimmer needed replacing, the cut out some of the new concrete, then repoured it, matched the color, and recreated the decorative lines. Each day the cleaned up and left no trace that they were even there. Capstone installed a new Baja shelf and removed a wall between the pool and adjoining/non functioning spa. Now I have a larger swim area and use of the seating area. Family and friends can now swim into what use to be the spa, have a seat while still being in the water, and relax. My pool, which was an overwhelming project for me, was made easy and stress free. All work was completed as described and earlier than expected. I truly could not be happier. Thank you Capstone! I would not recommend using this company. They completed a pool and tile remodel for us, but within a few months the tiles began to fall off. When I reached out to have the issue addressed under warranty, they declined responsibility and attributed it to another underlying problem that should have been identified during the initial project. I started with an old pool with plaster finish, broken electrical lines, and some non-functional plumbing lines. They were able to fix everything. On a project with a bunch of unknown variables, Capstone was easy to work with. Recommendations from our Pool Chemical service team, recommendations from a couple of the companies I had working on pool equipment, as well as the successful outcome of three quotes. I had capstone refinish my pool five years ago. At the time, Russ owned the company. He was a descent guy. When they did the color wrong, Russ made them fix it. A year in I had a leak. It was under warranty and they sent someone to fix it. It was around the skimmer and they shot in foam to stop the leak. A couple years later. Same problem but getting worse. It's structural and of course now out of warranty. The new owner has blown me off for a week and now says he'll give me 1000 off on the 4500 needed to fix it. I would recommend not ever hiring Capstone. It's been nothing but issues and they don't take responsibility for their work. read more

After many calls to reach out to someone who would be willing to give an idea on pool remodel costs for a client I had in escrow, this company was very professional over the phone and did offer to review our inspection and give an idea on costs. Nice people, and they made an effort to correct several problems, including cracks in concrete and mastic that would not stick to the flagstone. Sadly, the mastic never got done properly (or with the proper material) so now it's all coming apart, the concrete deck is lifting away from the pool because water got in the cracks and is swelling the soil under it. A drain channel was poorly installed, so it flows in the wrong direction. I had to install a sump pump and basin to pump the rain and runoff water away from the house. read more
