I had a lunch at Le's and it was a thoroughly pleasant experience. In a lot of ways, it's your run of the mill Vietnamese place. They have a fairly standard menu. The atmosphere is nothing special to speak of. But the serving size, let me tell you about the serving size. The serving size is amazing when it comes to the XL pho. There was so much meat and so many noodles in the bowl that it was unbelievable. Best yet, it's reasonably priced. The service wasn't great but it also really didn't detract from the overall experience. That is probably b/c I was shell shocked over the amount of food I was served. I walked out incredibly full and satisfied. And it's good food. If you're around the Harvard area this is basically your only option for Vietnamese. But that isn't a bad thing. Not impressed with this little Vietnamese spot in Cambridge, which is an area with numerous food options. The restaurant was dark and somewhat messy (bar area was not clean, dusty surfaces throughout the place) and despite only a few tables filled, noisy. As far as the service, the waiter was slow and forgot to bring me my soda. The Diet Coke was flat and despite changing it to a soda water, still charged me. The pho wasn't very flavorful, you can find better anywhere. I will say the fresh rolls with peanut sauce were delicious. Pretty good pho place with solid pho that me and my friends always go to! The pho is stellar because the soup isn't too salty and also the noodles are very light and bouncy in texture. Food: I always get the everything in pho option with the normal size because the tripe and the beef and the different blends of meat always mix well together and make a really yummy complete meal. Service: the service is quite quick and you get your order within the twenty minute window of you ordering and I think that it's quite fast for the amount of people that frequent the business. Environment: it's a quite casual environment and the place is pretty bustling and the lights are dim still but I enjoy coming here with friends. I'm surprised I have not reviewed Les yet. It's been in Harvard Square forever. It's your basic Vietnamese Pho restaurant. Plus a selection of rice or noodle dishes. I've been coming here for years - and I think it may currently be the only restaurant in Harvard Square that does not have a burger on their menu. Place is always busy. But service is always quick though lacking in personality. My biggest gripe is that they bring out the food when ready so not every one gets to eat at the same time. I pretty much always get the #42 which is wide rice noodles with veggies and choice of protein. My family has been frequenting this restaurant since my childhood. It is conveniently located right by the Harvard Square T Station and is also between my home and the airport, which explains why it has become somewhat of a ritual to get lunch or dinner here before a flight out of Logan. Every time we visit, we are very quickly seated with virtually no wait at all. The service is professional and efficient, and food comes out a few minutes after placing orders. As with most pho places, there are spice options on the table and a platter of beansprouts and lime are brought out for the pho. In terms of the pho itself, though not remarkable by any means, it is filling and flavorful and makes for a great comfort food before embarking on a long flight. The soup itself is on the lighter side, definitely not as rich as some other pho places, but it isn't so bland that it loses its taste. I come to this three star experience because of its low prices, casual atmosphere, and amazingly central location. The food is nothing to write home about. It is comfort food, decent Pho, plain and simple. Came here with a group of 4 and got Bun Bo Hue. A litttle our of the pho realm but it was very good! Definitely not for everyone as it has a lot of pork in it (feet too) so I would stay away if you're not into that. I've been to the Allston location a bunch of times and it never disappoints when you need a hearty meal. My friends got vermicelli and summer rolls. Also very good options as well. This is my second time dropping by for Vietnamese food at Harvard. The first experience was easy and fast with the help of a waitress to get food for a friend who was having a bad week. The second time was today and I left the restaurant pretty pissed. It has nothing to do with the food, if anything, it is the male server who does not speak English well, in which, I have nothing against folks that are non-native English speakers as I am southeast Asian myself and English is not my native language also! When the male server gave the check to me, I paid the server 35$ in cash from a 30$ food order. The server looked at the money and pointed at the bill, where the tip percentage was located. He, then asked for me to pay up more tip, which I refused, as I paid a $5 tip for the food I order to go! To be courtesy, I paid one more dollar to make it more than an 18% tip. When he took the money and walked away from me, I went through the bag of food thoroughly to see if the food items I placed was correct. When the fire alarm came on, I was about to be on my way out and the server stopped me. He refused to let me leave and accused me of not paying for the food and stealing. I repeatedly told him, I paid the food in cash and asked him to look for the money in which I gave him; a $20 bill, a 10$ bill, a 5$ bill, and a 1$ bill. At this point, I was furious and speechless. Never in my life, have I ever been accused of stealing food from a Vietnamese restaurant or any Asian restaurant, especially food that I paid for! Being a native Southeast Asian, Californian, from the area of Central and Bay Area, I never experienced this type of accusatory. But, what can I say, since I relocated here, I been having quite an eventful life experience here that there are plenty of stories to tell. I guess this will be another addition to add to my pile of experiences in life to pass on to others to tell others. As for the food, I only go for one thing which is the Bun Bo Hue because it is my jam for soup. The Bun Bo Hue broth is okay, not the best but doable. - This time around, I rather make my way to Qunicy and Dorchester to get the Bun Bo Hue and Banh Cuon, at least it's pretty good out there. read more

However, Le's is my favorite spot for Vietnamese that I've been to around here. I've tried the Special Beef Noodle Soup, Fresh Summer Rolls, and Grilled Meat & Crispy Summer Rolls Vermicelli. Their portion sizes are quite generous and the food has always been pretty good. I also have only ordered takeout here, so eating in might give a slightly better experience with fresher food. I go here when I miss home food and it's quite good. I've had their rice and pork chop dishes, spring rolls, and Vietnamese fried rice. The restaurant is pretty authentic. It's located in the Garage in Harvard Square. It kind of feels like a weird location but once you walk in the back and into Le's, the restaurant does feel like it's own space and has its own ambiance. It's pretty spacious and service is good. Le's can get pretty filled around dinner time but I don't think I've ever had a wait. I really love their fried rice and recommend it! The pork chop dish I had was just okay, which seems to be my experience at all Vietnamese restaurants with that particular dish. read more

I've been an off-and-on regular here since it was run as Pho Pasteur maybe nearly 30 years ago. Since I moved to the Square 7 years ago Le's has been my go-to place in the Square for good healthful food for a reasonable price, and it hasn't once let me down. And I would say that the shear consistency and quality of the place is it's finest quality. Just can't decide where you want to eat? Maybe a little grouchy and hungry? Le's will never disappoint. Start with the food. I'm partial to their pho, which hangs with the best you will get in the Boston area, and has never tasted stale or over cooked as you will find at many pho shops at odd hours of the day. I've adventured away from my tried and true pho ga several times and almost every time I've found a new repeat favorite. For a light meal try the combination salad or the Vietnamese crepe. On a cold winter day if you can avoid the magnetic draw of the pho, try the curried chicken soup (normally an appetizer) as a main course, or, if you think you can handle the carbs and want something truly comforting, the rice chowder. Want a bigger, more fully rounded meal? Don't miss the shrimp, beef, or chicken with chinese broccoli. I have yet to find anything that is a total miss, but those are a few of my favorites. Price-wise, I find Le's to be the best deal (most healthful food for lowest price) for two anywhere in the Square. Order a little carefully and two can eat for under $25. You can scrounge to find a lower cost elsewhere but will be left wanting. Last, I can't finish this review without mentioning the service. The staff are are very professional and polite, but after they see you a few times they get to know you - possibly better than you realize. The great service from truly lovely people is most impressive in its incredible reliability. Especially if you are feeling cranky and cynical, go get a bowl of soup at Le's and you will leave happier and in a better mood. Is it fancy or beautifully laid out? No. Is it the best food you've ever put in your mouth? Probably not. Is it the cheapest place around? No. But it is the best all-arounder I've found anywhere near the Square. read more

I came here at 3 PM on Wednesday for a snack. The place was very packed for an afternoon meal, but the waiters were not that attentive. The area is Dimly lit, which is a stark contrast compared to the rest of the shops in the garage. We started with the fresh spring rolls, which was a great idea. The peanut dipping sauce is what makes the spring rolls great. However, there was a large amount of lettuce and very little other ingredients. I almost felt like I was eating a salad. We then got the special beef noodle soup. I got a large, which was only one dollar more expensive than a small. It was absolutely delicious. The meat came out pink, which was indicative that the broth was hot enough to cook it. The broth was a little too salty for my liking, but worked perfectly with the noodles. However, there is no sign for the bathroom. I tried going to the bathroom about four times during my meal, but since there is only one female stall, it was always in use. Every time I went, there was always someone going number two, and I did not want to wait for more than 5 min awkwardly just standing there. read more

I rounded up to about 15%, but they charged me 20% anyway, without any clarification or notification to their customer whatsoever. Immediately disputed, and I will never visit this business again. Look, I understand COVID has been difficult for many restaurants, but that doesn't justify stealing your customer's money. You might get off a few times, but you WILL lose customers and their trust. The spring rolls were better but the summer rolls had this delicious peanut dipping sauce that I absolutely loved. For an entree I ordered the yellow noodles which were kind of disappointing as they were pretty average tasting at best. My friend got pho which I got to try. She put in some of the spice that came in the pots at each table, and it made the broth deliciously hot. For drinks, I got a Thai iced tea bubble tea and she got a taro bubble tea. This used to be my go-to cheap pho place when I was in college, since as a college student I just cared about an escape from dining hall food every once in a while without breaking the bank. But after returning as a real-life adult, I've decided that the pho here isn't as good as I remember it. The broth is what makes it mediocre. It was watery and not at all rich. The pho's texture is inconsistent. This time it was good, but on a previous visit it was too soft and fell apart when I tried to pick it up. However, the brisket and beef flank lived up to expectations. The good, the bad, and the ugly The good were the freshly cooked dishes, iced coffee, and the condiments. The canh ga chien don (fried chicken legs/wings) were quite tasty as was the ca tim xao (fried Japanese eggplant). But the banh hoi tom nuong (steamed vermicelli w/grilled shrimp) was exemplary - delicious grilled shrimp and a variety of wonderful fresh veggies served with steamed vermicelli and rice paper that you softened in your own water bowl. The iced Vietnamese coffee was also tasty and they even made less sweet '1/2 condensed milk' versions for the adults. I also give a shout out to the trio of condiments - hoisin, chili paste, and sriracha - provided on each table. The bad were the Goi Cuon (Summer rolls) and Pho Dac Biet. The Goi Cuon tasted like they had been sitting forever in a refrigerator. Sadly deficient in the shrimp and pork departments the rolls were just kind of a stale vermicelli delivery system. The Pho was slightly better but not much - the rare beef was anything but and the broth lacked the rich, beefy density of flavor pho should have. The ugly was our round of after dinner coffee. We had enjoyed iced Vietnamese coffee through lunch (it was in the 80s outside) and ordered a final after dinner round. Which arrived in plastic 'togo' cups. I got the large #20 Tái Gâu. It was the perfect size for me but I was ravenous due to poor planning and had not eaten in 10 hours. That may have skewed my perception Broth was great - subtly flavorful, satisfying and hot. The brisket was really tender but I would have liked the eye round to have some fat. The noodles were cooked perfectly with a little bite and not clumped together. The bean sprouts were discolored and limp so I didn't even bother trying them. A solid place I'll frequent often. Nuoc cham/fish sauce is weak, watered down, not very flavorful (had to dock half a star for that). The pork chop is flavorful enough where you don't necessarily need that extra layering of flavor. There's a hint of lemongrass on the pork chop, too. Comes with fresh veggies - tomato and cucumber. Very very satisfying overall. Dish is still decent for delivery, but dining in is better. Pho dac biet is solid - flavorful broth. Great for the cold winter months. Prices are reasonable given the location. Viet iced coffee here is good, too. Service is always so nice and friendly! And they're fast. Sometimes the timing is awkward with the arrival of the dishes - they should work on that. Avoid the lemongrass chicken dish. While the spice is on point, the texture is weird - a friend got this dish and let me try hers. Neither of us liked the chewy, too soft chicken - like it was fake chicken. Minus a star for that. I truly don't mean to sound cocky when I say this, but when it comes to pho, I know what I'm talking about. My grandmother cooked pho, my mother cooked pho, I lived, ate, and inhaled pho, so it was only fair that I would grow up cooking pho and eating pho. When Le's Restaurant used to be Pho Pasteur, I was a little itty bitty kiddie fan. When my mom was too lazy to cook food, we would all go to Pho Pasteur and have dinner. The bowls used to be bigger than they are now and the broth was nicely flavored because they used tons of beef and bones to make the stock. There were so many big chunks of beef that my dad would end up being the guy eating all the leftover beef cuz the kids would never be able to finish it. It would be the best night ever cuz besides Pho Pasteur, we never really cared to eat out except for like...McDonalds, but hey, that's a different review. The reason as to why Pho Pasteur became Le's is because employees for Pho Pasteur were being treated unfairly. They were being paid below minimum wages and soon after, the Vietnamese employees went on strike. Pho Pasteur would not budge and instead, hired a whole bunch of Cambodians and Hispanics to work for them. Once Pho Pasteur became Le's, no one in my family, including my extended family, came back. It has nothing to do with the change in employees, but it was so apparent that there was a change in taste and service that my family decided against and my mom was left in the kitchen to slave over a pot of boiling beef bones. I refuse to discourage you all from going to Le's. If you enjoy it, then please do eat it. But I have only gone once since I was a child and that was months ago and I regret it still. The beef broth was tasteless and dull, noodles and beef were lacking, but it didn't even matter cuz the food didn't taste like anything anyways. I always go to have a nice big bowl of Pho to cure my hangovers and I came to Le's to satisfy and I won't return. There are so many other places that have quality Pho with better service. To go to Le's would be like going to McDonald's for a qualtiy burger, sometimes it satisfies, but there are plenty other places that you can go instead. Besides, it's not like Le's is any cheaper than other places.
