Warning : do not come here for a birthday , especially for a double birthday., this will be a long…read morecandid review We went to this restaurant since my mom ( one of the birthdays) was recommended this restaurant and we love trying food so we figured why not. The staff consisted of a really nice older gentleman, a brunette and blonde waitress. The first issue : We first dropped off my mother and grandmother ( who had a clear tag of low visibility/blindness on her) had an issue with the seating. They had wanted to place us ( made a reservation for 5) on a 4 seater table with a chair on the edge glued to the wall. It was explained to them that we would need extra space as we are 5 and with someone with low visibility, therefore requiring extra space. The blonde waitress , said that they had a reservation for a big party coming in after us and couldn't give us the bigger table ( which would have fit 5 people comfortably, not glued to the wall); however the brunette waitress checked and said there were no other reservations so we were able to get the big table; great. Once we were seated, the elder gentleman came over to explain to us briefly the menu and asked what we'd want for appetizers ( we ordered each momo except the shrimp ) to try & then he said he would go prepare them. Waited another 20 mins since it seemed that our waitress ( blonde) didn't want to help us but came and took our order. I want to make note that she did not check on us once during the whole service to ask if the food was good or if we needed anything else; instead her amazing colleagues did. Food : Momos: were all very good, personally I wasn't a fan of the cheese one since it was sweet but still very good Churu Soup- probably the most underwhelming experience, the blue cheese was there and lamb but it was completely unseasoned no matter how much I mixed it. I then decided to drink from the bowl directly to notice towards the end that all the spices were at the bottom but not mixed into the soup Sha-Kat-Sta- the best and most flavourful dish out of the whole evening, would recommend Vegetarian Curry- flavour was very bland & we asked for spicy but was given mild, the brunette waitress was kind enough to get us extra hot chili to mix into it . Timo- very interesting texture and flavour , tastes really good when you dip into the curries , would recommend Naan- so a lot of reviews on Google and yelp said that it was Costco brand naan, however we checked it and can tell that it was home made, a bit too charred but good Steamed rice - opt out if you can, very inconsistent with the two bowls that we've received Chow mein: the birthday girl was really disappointed. My dad made sure to ask for extra crispy noodles, however as you can see in the pictures , not a single crispy noodle in sight. We told my mom we can ask to send back to the kitchen to have it fixed , however it was nearly impossible to even get our waitress attention ( the blonde one) to do that so we just ate it. There are a few event dishes to try, but the service is not worth it as a sit down experience, which is disappointing considering you have the Spanish Club, Sabor Latino and Darlings surrounding that area. To the waitress, I've done food service before as mentioned in a few of my other reviews, but you definitely need to smile more and put more effort , we all are going through it but please don't let it reflect in your job to future clients .

I have no idea just how authentic their dishes are or aren't - I'll let others discuss that - my group certainly enjoyed everything we ordered. And it was a very diverse group, from 3 provinces, 2 states, and backgrounds from several additional countries. The staff easily toggled back and forth between our convoluted orders, questions, and banter in both English and French, without missing a beat in the conversation or service. Be sure to check the daily special menu, as we did, and ordered from it a combination platter for two, their Table D'hote (photo provided). We opted for the samosas, Sha ka tsa and 8 momos, 2 of each. Everything had great flavor, though I wonder if the sha ka tsa was a bit milder than usual for us. The meals also come with rice and in some cases a small salad. For our special, dessert was a single gulab jumun each, still warm, in a syrup that was not sickeningly sweet with a definite rosewater presence - so much tastier than to what I'm accustomed on Indian buffets at home. This whole experience was worldly wonderful both in the company and dining.

What a pleasant surprise this was! I was coming to buy Girl Scout Cookies as they were being sold…read morethere yesterday (Friday) and I am a sucker for Girl Scouts as my nana spoiled me growing up and bought me boxes of Thin Mints whenever Girl Scout Cookie Season came around. Luckily, i was able to snag the last box of Thin Mints and a box of Trefoils, so I am not complaining. Since I was already at the location, I thought why not try the restaurant. I did not know what to expect and honestly I did not factor in that it was a buffet. Coming from Miami originally (though currently living in Saint Albans), I was lucky (no pun intended ^_^) to have had some really great buffets to experience in Miami, FL (ie. Kyojin in South Miami, Canton in Coral Gables, POC in Coral Gables) but I was craving Chinese food as I had not had any in so long. Lucky Buffet did not disappoint. They had sit down dining service as well as to go service. I am not sure if they deliver. If they did that would be amazing! But it was pretty busy which is always a good sign for a restaurant because it means they are doing good business and there is a demand for it. I ended up eating with my eyes and then my stomach because i filled 2 to go containers with a variety/assortment of foods like General Tso's chicken (my favorite), chicken & broccoli, crunchy and flavorful snap peas, crispy wonton noodles, very breaded/fluffy battered chicken tenders, and some vegetable fried rice that i doused in the General Tsao's sauce). I also got some of these Buttered scalloped potatoes which O-M-G were so darn good. They also had sliced onion mixed into the batch and no complaints there. It came out to a total of $38. There was a sign that said it was like $7.95 for pound of food and I figured I would splurge since I am not sure when I would be back there. I walk everywhere and in the cold, frigid temps, it's a bit cumbersome (and dangerous) to walk with food like that over icy sidewalks and slushy-muddy snow. I can't speak to what dining in would be like, but it seemed pretty decent. There was a steady flow of customers coming in and out which is always good to see. I also liked how they had fortune cookies sitting on display in the middle of the place for guests to take. I took about six lol I can't resist a good old fashioned fortune cookie:) If I ever happen to be walking by again, I would consider it again, but it is a lot of food. So you have to go on an empty stomach and also try not to over indulge or else you will have tummy issues. Chinese food is notorious for having MSG, but I am not sure if they use that there. I will say that they had a pretty decent dessert bar and ice cream selection. The people of Saint Albans are "lucky" to have this restaurant in their midsts. Also parking is pretty ample for those that have vehicles and the restaurant itself seemed pretty clean and well organized. If buffet items got low, they immediately would replenish them. The food was hot and ready to go. A plus was the little keychains being sold at the front at the counter. I had to get a Stitch one because I love the Stitch character. He's so cute ^_^ They also had a Spiderman one and Hello Kitty one so any fans of those characters would be pleasantly surprises and amused to see them being sold there once you check out and pay. Highly recommend this place.

The hand pulled noodles here are so good. My partner and I got the small bowls (braised beef and lamb noodle soups), but the portions are HUGE. Highly recommend going for noodle style 6 (thickest, more chewy) or 4. We also got the pork and cabbage dumplings, which are super juicy. This meal was very filling; we could've done without the dumplings, but they're too good to pass up. Service was ok since only one person was handling most FOH procedures. Atmosphere was also fine. It was just really warm, even with the multiple fans running (open doors, no AC), but it was to be expected with the pots of noodles cooking in the front. We ran into the restaurant in the middle of a torrential storm, and the wait staff was so kind in giving us extra time to dry off and get settled. We ordered numerous dishes and appetizers to share--family-style dining is definitely the way to go here! So many excellent things on the menu. Come expecting to try something new! We were impressed with the quality of the ingredients, particularly the flavorful broths. The standouts were -- Wonton Soup: the broth was wonderful -- Cucumber Salad: crunchy, spicy, and addictive -- Potato Julianne: unbelievably good with its spicy, tangy seasoning; a must-order! -- Cumin Beef: my father--who usually dislikes anything that is unfamiliar--enjoyed this! -- Pork Belly with Sweet Potato Noodles: this special dish is rich and spicy --Eggplant, Bell Pepper, and Potato To top it off, the owner came out and talked to us about the history behind the names and ingredients of different dishes on the menu. So fascinating! We loved getting a taste of Chinese culinary history from him--what a cap to a delicious evening.

Despite the forbidding, poorly kept exterior and stair landing, the interior dining area was clean. Food consisted of Vegetarian Spring Rolls (two absolutely tiny fried rolls with a flavorless yellow dipping sauce), Cumin Beef (perhaps the star of the show, relatively tender, with specks of dried chili - not at all spicy), Sweet and Spicy Eggplant (again, okay but lacked spiciness/heat and flavor), and rice, all washed down with marginally cold Tsing Tao beer. Portions were generous, service was hurried/at rapid pace for some reason, but lacked follow-up once the dishes arrived! The meal for two set us back CAD 58+ with hefty taxes and generous tips. Not a bad place by any means, but what we had was nothing spectacular!

I didn't know they were breaded but they were delicious and so was my mixed vegetable dish super yummy.. the soups were delicious and so were the dumplings mmmm melted in my mouth! However, The rice was standard fast Chinese food.. tasted ok but not THE BEST I've had.. it just was not very soft like I like it and the fried calamari entree was also hard and not the most fresh. The delivery came very quick (15min and the guy was at my door) so I was a bit worried as some of my food might have been reheated and thats why it was not so fresh .. not everything was bad just the rice and calamari was disappointing Prices are fair and not overly priced so if you're looking for something fast but lacks a lil bit of quality for a good price this place is great ... I just like to have my chineese food super fresh .. sorry but overall it was pretty good stuff and I'll definitely re-order but maybe I'll avoid the rice next time. Thanks
