Paneer, chicken tuna masala and garlic naan and side of rice

Family owned and run business. I walked here late on a Saturday night and they were a bit busy. No wait and I was seated quickly. I was seated, and ordered from the owners son. He was very friendly, down to earth and spoke great English which was a plus for an American visiting Montréal. (I'm not good at French at all) I ordered paneer which is Indian made cheese that's fried. First time and was good paired with the red sauce they give you. Also ordered my favorite, chicken tikka masala. Paired it with side of rice and garlic naan. Yummmmm yummm yum. Good food, friendly staff and open later than a lot of other options in the vicinity.

This place gets better every single time. I've been coming here for a while now and I can't get enough! The value is amazing. Great quality Indian food for an appropriate price. Their butter chicken is incredible. It is jam packed with flavour and spices. It is a perfect meal on a wintery evening. The lentils are also delicious. They do not skip out on the portion sizes as well as the amount of actual lentils in the dish which is nice. The naan bread is incredible. There's always some crunch as well as some fluff to it. The texture is amazing. The chicken tikka was a new dish that I tried this time. It came out sizzling hot, full of steam. There were green peppers, onions and large portions of chicken. It was also delicious, full of great flavour. Overall, this restaurant is amazing! The staff is friendly and kind and the food is delicious.

After having come here 20+ times, it has become a much needed regular in my life. Consistency with Indian food tends to be an issue at some places but not here. Every time I come, I get fresh, hot and delicious food. Seriously the best value for good Indian food. I most often get the non Veg Thali (10$) with either Chicken curry or Butter chicken and either with Chana masala or lentils. I've tried many other dishes and have been amazed with the mix of flavour and spices. Some dishes that stick out to me is the Lamb vidaloo and the mango chicken. Both delicious. They also have the best naan I've ever had in my life. If you are vegetarian, they have extensive veggie options as well! The restaurant itself is clean, comfortable and casual. There are often families there and groups and it can get quite busy some nights. The BYOB aspect here is great as well. The locations across from Plamondon metro makes it easy to access. I have never ordered delivery but plan to during the winter months. There is a small fee but I'm sure that it is the same great quality! 5% off for pickups! I seriously can't recommend this place enough!!

a variety of dishes of food on a table

Decided to go try some Filipino food on a Saturday evening, however, the restaurant was hosting an event and we were not able to eat there. Walked around Victoria avenue and stumbled across Didar. I must say we were truly impressed. I haven't seen such an eclectic menu in an Indian restaurant in such a long time. We ordered a variety of dishes ( butter chicken, beef vindaloo, tandoori chicken, okra, lentils, shrimp masala, etc...) and none of the dishes disappoint. The flavours were incredible and on point. The service was fantastic. It is a family run business and they do a great job in managing the night time rush. We need to head back there shortly as there were so many dishes we wanted to taste. I think it will take us at least 5 visits to try the entire menu and I am positive they will taste as good as our first time. You can savour the love they put in to each of their dishes.

Didar is the perfect place for an affordable, low-key dinner on a cold night. It's a family-run restaurant near Plamondon metro and it's BYOB. I've now visited Didar five times. I really love this place because it never fails to impress newcomers. During my last visit, I ordered an assortment of delicious Indian food for the table: lentil soup, chana samosa, vegetable pakoras, chicken pakoras, four types of naan (plain, garlic, stuffed with chicken, stuffed with potato). The chicken pakoras and the garlic naan were our favourites. For our mains, we ordered a sizzling platter of chicken tikka, spinach stew, manchurian chicken, chicken tikka masala, mango chicken and jalfrezi chicken. Our favourite curries were the manchurian chicken (first time trying it and we were all impressed) as well as the chicken tikka masala (my go-to order), and the mango chicken (deliciously sweet and savoury). The service is always great. While it's on the slow side, the woman who owns the place is sweet and has her son working as a waiter. Because we ordered a lot, it ended up costing us $20 per person but we felt that was reasonable for the quality of the food.

Pushap? Cheap and greasy. Tanjay, not bad but I'm not sure why it didn't impress me. Le Taj? Great but overpriced. Didar? Boom! The sweet spot. So overjoyed today for finally finding this Indian place where they managed to bring the best, most deliciously prepared succulent dishes accompanied with friendly, aim to please attitude and all for a reasonable and fair price. Ok ok, Yelp and Yelp friends helped me a lot of course discovering this truly hidden gem. All the credits go to them and I thank them for their honest and just reviews. Kudos. We ordered Chana samosa, samosas, shrimp masala, lamb karahi, paneer saag, butter chicken, spinach, potatoes and chicken naan and rice. One is better than the next but got to say the lamb karahi was the star amongst today's choices. No funky smell or anything, fall off the bone tender juicy meat. Just amazing! A bit too much food for 4 where we got stuffed and had to ask to take the leftover home. When asked our spiciness level, we had to go between mild and medium. Not to my liking of course but had to be accommodating to the rest on the table. Sigh The place is not one of the best looking but it's clean, modest and has this authentic setting. Who cares about the looks? Once you start eating their super tasty food and the wine you brought with you, looks of the place won't matter. You're now indulged in gluttony ...Nothing else matters at this point my friend. Just dig in and enjoy the moment. I will most definitely come back and try the other goodies. This place is waaay up on my Indian resto list now. Number 1 for sure. Most likely will come alone at least once and ask them to make it extra spicy for me bcs my usual company are bunch of chicken with weak tolerance for spicy and hot food. I must've been an Indian in my previous life just bcs I love their food with their same tolerance level for spiciness. An amazing find indeed.

I had the butter chicken thaali and it was delicious. Fresh and their Naan is the best! Loved it. It's usually so affordable and it fills you up. Would definitely recommend it.

Update (June 2018): I've been back and what I left out from my first review continued again. I'll update this later. I hope they realize that most brown South Asians understand What they're saying in Punjabi because we've grown up watching Bollywood movies all our lives not to mention the fact that our parents also speak Hindi very clearly because our countries were once emerged and considered one single country.

Terrible customer service. Argues with me on phone, rude. Then they got my order wrong and when I called back they hung up on me.

It's towards the top of Old Montreal so we had a nice walk to and from the restaurant. We were greeted by the host and sat down immediately. The restaurant inside was very pretty and had low lighting to make it look very intimate. I'd definitely consider Veranda a fine-dining Indian restaurant. We ordered the samosa tarts and malai chicken tikka from the appetizers and both were absolutely delicious! We also ordered mango lassi, butter chicken, and garlic naan (all automatic orders for us when we go to Indian restaurants) and none of them disappointed. However, we were a little disappointed that they didn't have a few menu items that we see back home or at other Indian restaurants like onion bhaji, pakora, biryani and tandoori chicken. The only complaint we had was the service wasn't that great. Our order was taken a few minutes after viewing the menu and the staff was very friendly but after we finished our appetizers, we felt neglected as other tables were served their food and we were waiting 25-30 minutes to get served our main dish. We had to let the server know that we were done our appetizers and ready for the main dish. I'm not sure if this is normal in Montreal or at Indian restaurants in Montreal? Other restaurants we were served our courses immediately one after the other, with maybe 5-10 minutes in between. It wasn't busy either for a Wednesday night where they only had 3-4 tables. Regardless, we would recommend Veranda to anyone craving Indian food who wants to eat in Old Montreal! The food is delicious!
