I have been a patient of Dr. Yang for 10 years. I actually have been going to the same location all my life since grade school and after I left for Japan and came back, Dr. Yang had taken over the practice. At first I was unsure how the transition would work out because there seemed to be a complete overhaul. But I will tell you that Dr. Yang and his wife Dr. Lee have done a marvelous job of turning this practice around. The first thing I noticed was the upgrade in equipment. I never knew that most of the equipment that was used on me was so archaic until Dr. Yang had come into my life. In fact, every visit (every 6 months), I notice something new that has been added or incorporated. I get a sense of comfort knowing that the equipment is up-to-date with the modern world. It is also a reflection of Dr. Yang's endeavor to provide quality care. He embraces technology and doesn't cut corners when it comes to this. Not only that, he knows how to use it. From the chairs to the x-ray machine to the DSLR camera with special flash that is embedded into the lens, he maximizes the investment he puts into the equipment. Dr. Yang is passionate about his work and is an honest man. Years ago, I talked to him about my motorcycle racing and encouraged him to try it. He chuckled and said he would love to but he can't risk injuring his hands as that is his livelihood. For some reason, that really stuck with me over the years. It would be like me declining to wear my cousin's aviator sunglasses because I don't want to risk looking like a d-bag. But I digress. My regular check-ups are always accompanied by Dr. Yang personally reviewing my teeth after the clean-up by the hygienist and asking questions and/or suggesting advice. When work needs to be done on my teeth, Dr. Yang always suggests all options. He understands that dental work is not cheap and he never tries to push the expensive option over the cheaper option, rather, he explains the pros and cons of each. Even this week when I had an semi-emergency visit to get a tooth that had chipped and lost a filling checked out, which turned out needing a root canal, he didn't force me to get the root canal. Instead, he said I should get one (i.e. need one), but it was my choice on how to proceed. For obvious reasons I chose to get it taken care of right away even though I dreaded it. And to that point, it was 5pm and the practice was getting ready to go home, but they prepped to give me a root canal and worked well past their closing time to get it done. This was my second root canal and my first with Dr. Yang. Although root canals suck, the one with Dr. Yang was much more "pleasant" than the one I had with some guy that wasn't even my regular dentist. Throughout the procedure, Dr. Yang explained to me exactly what he was going to do, and he even exemplified this by showing me photographs and x-rays during the procedure. Again, perhaps this is typical of most practices, but Dr. Yang is very thorough in his explanation that he could convince me that it'd be okay to take a sledge hammer with no novacaine to my teeth. Obviously, he wouldn't do that! I'm just saying. He also procures his own crowns now, instead of outsourcing them. This means faster turn around and probably better quality. It tells me two things: that Dr. Yang is a smart businessman and also a person who wants to excel in his field. The root canal was a success with a natural looking and feeling crown on my grill. Dr. Yang made sure the bite felt good and the crown was secure. I celebrated by eating a nice big burrito that I could only taste on one side of my mouth. Dr. Yang also cares about teaching the assistants there to be competent in their work. Whether it is for the moment or in the future at another practice, he is just as thorough in explanation to his employees as he is to his patients. Why is this important? Because he cares about being diligent AND efficient. You can't be efficient without a good assistant. When an assistant doesn't do something right, he offers criticism on how to do something better that is never negative, but more about his endeavor for perfection. And he always provides constructive criticism in a manner that is nurturing and educational. I believe he strives for chemistry with whoever he is working with. Finally, I should mention that his wife Dr. Lee is probably equally competent and caring. I just don't have much experience with her but for a couple visits. During those visits, Dr. Lee provided me with the same quality care I have come to expect from Dr. Yang. She told me I have some sort of [scientific name] thing with my tongue, which no dentist throughout my life has told me about. I guess it's nothing to worry about but it was interesting to know! All in all, I can't say enough about Dr. Yang. The man is a professional that has passion for his work. 5-stars all the way! read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Leo Yangs for 2 years now, and I can easily say I have never had a better experience with a dentist. Leo and his team and are extremely talented in their craft and have great bedside manner, which is a very important to me. I participated in a "smile renovation" and it has been life changing. I went to see Leo as the top row of my teeth had big gaps in it and the teeth where various sizes (like a 10 year old teeth, but I'm 26!). I always felt very self-conscience of it and it and never happy with my smile. I met Leo for a consultation where he took photos of my teeth and we both analyzed my smile on a computer screen, what I liked and did not like about it. I thought this was amazing. I had never experienced anything like this, i really appreciated his genuine interest in my teeth. After getting only 4 veneers for my top 4 teeth, my smile has been completely transformed! Today my teeth are perfect! Leo hand crafted each tooth to fit my own smile, his attention to detail is pretty amazing. By hand he made each tooth blend with the rest, adding slight markings to match the rest of my smile. He's an artist! I've been going to Dr. Leo Yang for over 10 years. I continue to be in awe of his competence, energy and commitment to his patients. I've had a lot of procedures performed by Dr. Yang - teeth pulled, crowns replaced, cavities repaired, etc. I also have used the same hygienist in Dr. Yang's office for more than 10 years. I had a hygienist appointment last week which was canceled because the hygienist was ill. So, the appointment was rescheduled to today. And, guess who cleaned my teeth today? None other that Dr. Yang himself! I told Dr. Yang having him clean my teeth was like getting a basketball lesson from Steph Curry. This is a small but significant demonstration of Dr. Yang's commitment to and support of patients. Finally, please know that Dr. Yang enthusiastically embraces technology (some of which is beyond my ability to understand) - for example he uses fancy "CAD" software to design custom crowns that are manufactured in the office and ready to install in your mouth in about an hour. Dr. Yang is hands-down one of the best dentists I've ever been to. The combination of cutting edge technology, superior dental skills and a compassionate, exceptional staff lead me say that I can't recommend Dr. Yang enough. I went to see Dr. Yang and his team when a shoddy crown from a previous dentist needed to be replaced with an implant. Getting an implant can be an arduous process, but Dr. Yang made sure that I thoroughly understood my treatment options, and then made sure I had a clear understanding of the treatment plan once we had chosen a direction. To say I'm happy with the results is an understatement. The office is chock full of the latest technology, meaning that Dr. Yang can provide most services fully in-house, which can really expedite processes. But actually, my favorite part about seeing Dr. Yang is that he takes lots of photos of the work being done at all stages so he has a thorough record of before and after and all steps in-between. Most dentists I've been to don't bother with this extra step, which in my mind helps to paint a much clearer clinical picture than x-rays alone. Late Saturday evening half of my front veneer broke off while eating , I quickly googled emergency dental services I called over a half dozen to no avail eventually I called dr. Yang's number when he picked up and told me that he can fix my tooth the following day I was floored with gratitude. Other dentist that I spoke to said they would not be able to get me until Tuesday morning since it is a holiday weekend even though they were advertised as Emergency services. Sunday I went to dr. Yang and the experience was top-notch five stars all the way his assistant and himself came in on a Sunday memorial day weekend to fix my tooth. He said to bring the chipped veneer with me and he was able to permanently cement the veneer on. The results were astonishing pretty much completely undetectable. I will forever be grateful to dr. Yang and Sarah his assistant for taking time out of their holiday weekend to fix my tooth . They were quick and efficient for a reasonable price, I was expecting to be charged way more I decided to become a new patient even though this is in Mill valley and I live in San Francisco I have an appointment for teeth cleaning. read more

Dentistry is not an easy profession, I always have great respect for all my dentists and hygienists over the years. Before relocating to Mill Valley, I continued to go to the same dentist after he recommended a thousand-dollar device that ended up doing nothing for a problem I had. For I know he had good intentions and cares about his patients. But I just had such a bad experience at Dr. Yang's office being accused of not wanting to pay for a procedure that I clearly didn't receive. The back and forth conversation was so frustrating and insulting that it prompted me to write this review and hope to warn other people. I am fairly new to the area, and just had my third visit at Dr. Yang's in early February. When I received the bill, I noticed there's a $65 charge for the fluoride that I didn't get. so I called the office to tell them to correct it. The receptionist told me she would discuss with Dr. Yang and my hygienist, Taren. After waiting for a week and not hearing any follow up, I called again. This time the receptionist told me "the hygienist says the fluoride was applied, but as a one time courtesy, they will take the charge off." I couldn't believe what I just heard. I explained to her that it's not possible to NOT notice there's fluoride on my gum. That's precisely why I declined it this time after cleaning. I don't normally like the fluoride when I used to get it, and it will be too uncomfortable with my Invisagn. That's exactly what I said to Taren, the hygienist at the time, if she needs to be reminded how it happened. The receptionist put the manager on the phone to talk to me. So I explained the situation again, and told her that, during the visit, I also told the doctor I will come for an extra cleaning every year even though insurance won't cover it, to help with my invisalign treatment. And I will need to replace a few crowns after the treatment completes. So I am committing to thousands of dollars of future procedures, why would I lie to cheat $65 out of you. The manger apologized for how upsetting this's making me, but she would have to talk to Taren again, and said: "maybe she didn't do it", then went on to insinuate that maybe I took the fluoride with me instead. I was just flabbergasted by now. How tone deaf are you to say that it's just a "maybe" which means I could still be lying about it, or that I could have pocketed it but trying not to pay for it. And how stupid is this business to accuse a customer with thousands of dollars of work in the near term to try to rob you $65?! Honestly, the dollar amount is not even that big a deal, but this whole experience with them besides being upsetting and infuriating, it made me question their business practices and how they really treat their patients and customers. A word of caution, make sure to check your bills every time, especially if you bring your kids there, know exactly what has been done since they might not know themselves. read more

I found this office and Dr. Yang in a bind and needing pretty immediate attention; the lower half of two front teeth missing after a surfboard hit me in the mouth. He walked me through my options and I never felt pressured about which route to choose. Since that initial exam I've spent some time at his office and always feel comfortable and well taken care of. Recreating my teeth was a seamless process; all the work is completed in house, nothing sent off to a lab, no waiting. After careful planning and coordination the procedure started on a Friday morning and l left the office that evening with a new smile. The follow up care is on point and he replaced my night guard at no additional cost after my dog destroyed it! No detail is too small for Dr. Yang and his crew. read more

I like Dr Yang and think he is extremely competent, however what I'm looking for in a dentist differs from what I found in his office. Although I think he's an excellent technician, I had a few issues which ultimately led me to leave. First was the rotating pool of hygienists. I rarely saw the same one more than twice, and there was substantial variation in quality. In fact the best I had was when Dr Yang did the cleaning himself, but this was unfortunately not common. My recommendation would be to pay a bit more to find good hygienists who stick around. I also felt like Dr Yang was often pushing some service or other that I wasn't interested in, and I don't like being pushed. I would rather that he simply state what he finds, and let me ask for the super duper whitening or the cosmetic straightening or whatever. Clearly views on this differ by the standard of care you desire, but it wasn't right for me. Finally, over the years I've found substantial differences in how aggressive dentists are at attacking problems that are not urgent, be they emerging cavities, cracks in existing fillings, etc. In the range of dentists that I've experienced -- maybe a half dozen -- my view is Dr Yang lies on the end of the scale where he finds things to fix that may not be urgent. While this may indeed be what some people want, my style is to put off to the pain and the expense until it is unambiguously required. read more

Alright, I have a MAJOR fear of seeing a dentist. I think this dates back to my youth and probably one of my old dentist. I remember always feeling the pain of whatever procedure being done, and the fact that I had a dentist who messed up on the same tooth TWICE when I was younger so, needless to say stopped going. The reason why I came and saw Dr. Yang was because two weeks ago I was in the worst pain of my life, and the pain only got worse and plus I had a swollen cheek. So I did some research yelp for an "oral surgeon." and Dr. Yang came up on the search result Dr. Yang is not an oral surgeon he does general dentistry but he was able to fix my problem. I walked in for my ex-ray freaked out of my mind, crying like a baby before hand and the dental hygienist were able to comfort me by giving me a blanket. I also was able to notice aside from being freaked out was how beautiful Dr. Yang's office was and how up to date everything was. His office was nothing like I have seen before. It was amazing! Also, the office has an incredible view. Now when I actually went in to have my epic problem fixed (I don't feel the need to get into details on yelp), I didn't feel anything and the procedure was performed quickly and effectively. I was impressed with Dr. Yang's compassion and understanding to my needs. Also, because I don't have medical insurance the cost wasn't too much which was good because I feared that the procedure would cost me thousands of dollars. Anyway, if your looking for a new dentist I would highly recommend Dr. Yang. read more

The entire staff is extremely attentive and it is a pleasure to go every time. At this point in time I am having implant work done. Dr. Yang has given me a thorough explanation of my choices, as well as what the process is like and what to expect. He is very patient and thorough with his work. It is clear to me that Dr. Yang has expanded his skills and equipment over the years. He used a CONE BEAM 3D scan to determine how to place the implant in the most beneficial way and used his in house crown milling machine to make my crown.
