In the overall realm of dentistry I give Dr. Kovalchuk, his staff and the office the highest of marks; I'll start simply by saying to the trained eye (I do know Dentists) his office is well equipped with advanced 3D modeling software and 3-D dental printers and all the latest composites; gone are the days when you wander around for two weeks with a temp crown, it's all done within his office. Dr. Kovalchuk is thoroughly versed with these tools and moreover, he is insightful, caring, thorough and skilled at what seems like all aspects of dentistry. Just last year I left another Marin County dentist that I'd been with for the past 20 years simply because Dr. Kovalchuk's new Mill Valley office happened to be much closer to my home than my former dentist's. However, over this past year, after having several cavities and bridges repaired as well as having had both my teeth and my gums cleaned, I've discovered that Dr. Kovalchuk is one of the best dentists that I've ever had in my life - and I'm a senior citizen going on 80 years old. Dr. Kovalchuk has most impressed me with his thoughtfulness in planning for my short and long term dental needs, as well as with his skills and care for my comfort when working on my teeth. Furthermore, he and his receptionist are pleasant people to work with. He offers free on site parking that is easily accessible from the freeway in a low rise office. 6 stars if I could. I'm terrified of the dentist. Left it 6 years between visits. Dr K is unbelievably kind, gentle and skilled. He began with some major cleaning, done in two long visits with not a moment of discomfort. With renewed confidence I signed up for him to finish an implant I'd started 6 years ago. My previous dentist (Evangelista in SF) wouldn't tell him or me the size of the device they'd used so he had to open up the gum, clear out 6 years worth of bone growth and experiment with various sizes and brands. He spent almost 2 hours getting the job done, as always he was incredibly skilled, kind and gentle. Two more easy visits to wrap it up and I find myself almost looking forwards to it, actually remove the almost, I am looking forward to it. Amazing dentist. read more

Ive been to many dentist over the years on the East Coast, I found Dr. Kovalchuck when I moved to Marin a couple years ago. I just completed my second crown with him. 2 down 2 to go. He is so advanced compared to any other dentist I've been to. He makes sure you understand your treatment plan, his recommendations He is not pushy at all, he leaves it up to you when you want to get started. In my case I had a crown done last year. I had another done today, and I have 2 more to go. I would never let another dentist do this kind of work to my teeth. I trust Dr. Kovalchuck completely. He is so skilled. Not only does he complete the crown in one appointment, It feels great afterwards. Unlike my dentistry in the past. I mostly had a very positive experience here, but I'm not sure I'm going back. Which is such a shame as I was hoping I'd found 'my' dentist... Dr Kovalchuk is attentive, thorough, put my mind at ease and right on time. His assistant, Darlene is warm, kind and welcoming; she's super personable. These two get 5 stars. The receptionist gets 1 star. The only reason I didn't put up a 1 star review is because of everyone else in the office, plus the location, the feel, how well cared for the office is, easy parking, and that crazy awesome view :) Here's why the 1 star - when I'm asking questions about part of a legal document I'm signing that impacts my finances, I don't expect to be spoken to in a rude tone of voice while slowing-down-her-words and still not explaining clearly. While I was truly appreciative of the last minute appointment, even my initial call to the office was rushed and I felt like I shouldn't be asking the questions I was asking about billing, if my insurance would cover the services, and even finding the best time to come in. I felt pushed, to be honest a little bullied, and I may not return simply because of this front desk experience. Dr Kovalchuk did apologize and I had the utmost respect for him doing so. Dr. Kovalchuk rocks! I am fairly demanding of service providers, I will admit. Dr. Kovalchuk and his team never cease to impress me each time I visit. His hygienist is top notch, providing excellent service from a position of knowledge and experience, always ensuring that we feel as comfortable as possible in what are often uncomfortable procedures. Dr. Kovalchuk recently replaced one of my crowns. By all accounts, my tooth was on the verge of needing to be pulled entirely. He did everything in his power to save it, avoiding a lengthy and costly process of installing an implant. Thankfully, he was able to install a beautiful crown on the existing tooth base using the latest technology of onsite (same day) porcelain crown production. I'm thrilled with the results. Wow. Just.... wow. I don't know what's more awesome: the location; the support staff (reception; nurse); the view ... I suppose it has to be the view. :) How many dentists' offices do you know of with a view overlooking a charming bay dotted with birds, the occasional seal, and with mountains in the background? That, and Dr Kovalchuk is supremely kind, personable, friendly, and immensely capable and professional. Some back story: I had been seeing the same dentist (Dr Dawn Stock, in Mill Valley) who recently retired, since my high school days. Although the doctor to whom she sold her practice is very very good, my insurance didn't do much with them so I was forced to finally look for a new dentist. My parents had been visiting Dr Kovalchuk for quite some time, and couldn't recommend him strongly enough. Suffice to say, I'm now getting my wife to switch dentists as well. He's that good. PRO: support staff, location, view, Dr Kovalchuk! CON: you will be torn between grabbing lunch next door at Robata Sushi & Grill or Piatti's Italian restaurant, while struggling to decide which new Ferrari model to buy at the adjacent Ferrari of San Francisco (yes, it's in Mill Valley, but called Ferrari of SF). read more

We recently had to find a new dentist because our dentist of over 10 years botched 2 crowns. Enter Dr. Denys and his wonderful assistant Jo Jo. He fixed the problem and I got him to repair my front tooth which had a small chip. He did a fantastic job, my tooth looks beautiful but mostly no one would ever suspect that I had a repair, it looks so natural! The color matching is amazing. The Dr. has a beautiful relaxing conveniently located office, he has both great hands and is aware of the latest technology but his philosophy seems to be "do no harm". My husband has been going to dentists for 35 years. He unequivocally thinks Dr. Kovalchuck is the smartest, gentlest, most effective dentist he's ever been to. That makes Denys #1 out of a dozen. Outstanding work, trust, value, technologically up-to-date & friendliness are all aspects of an excellent dentistry practice. Dr. Kovalchuk has all these and more. He was straightforward about my treatment plan - not having gone to the dentist in 3 years. He was very accommodating, patient and knowledgable. On the day I was to get a crown, unexpectedly I had to watch my 4-week-old son, who came along right into the room to sleep in his car seat; and when he needed attention we took a small break. Dr Kovalchuk took it all in stride, a father himself, understanding and helpful - all with a slight, appropriate sense of humor. I remember him saying, as we neared a break and my son started to stir "If you are good Avery for a couple more minutes you will get a treat ... hmmm how about some milk." Plus he has an incredible imaging system and can build (sculpt) caps in the office in real time. I was amazed. He is humble and confident. His chair side technique was very professional yet friendly and re-assuring (I am a Doctor as well). When he showed me the images and allowed me to interact, prioritize and evaluate together the treatment plan - I felt included and important, yet trusted his judgment, of course. The outcome was outstanding. My teeth look and feel great. And his dental assistant Jo Jo - she too was of highest caliber and completed the picture for a great experience at the dentist (never thought I would say that). Dr. Kovalchuk is patient and careful with his patients. My teeth are in horrible shape due to poor choices made in my past, and Dr. Kovalchuk is kind and nonjudgmental. I've had horrible experiences with dentists in the past, and it has usually taken several appointments to build trust with the best ones. After only two appointments, I can honestly say that I trust his work, and that he truly has my best interest in mind when it comes to my dental health. Considering the area his office is located, I dreaded how expensive the work might have been. Not only is he reasonably priced, he was willing to work with me as far as payments go, being that my insurance isn't the best. At my first appointment, he didn't let my inability to pay for all that was needed keep me from getting the treatment that was best for me at the time. He didn't try to sell me work that didn't need to be done either, which is a huge plus in my book. He will have my business as long as I live in this area. This place is really different. All the hassles related to going to the dentist -they all went away. Dr Denys is THE BEST! He is so patient, explains everything when asked to, is gentle, funny, and non judgmental. You feel like you are seeing a friend (and his sidekick joe-joe is just that - a total kick!). In the past, I have always thought that I must have extra mouth sensitivity because I've always needed multiple pain shots before & even during a process. But not with Dr Denys. He takes his time and gets it all right the first time. Even the shot, I didn't feel it because he took his time waiting for the numbing agent to really kick in. Here are some of the other things I really love about my new dentist: 1. It's easy to make an appointment. And they have early evening appointments - so you don't need to miss work to go to the dentist. This makes them especially attractive in my book. 2.They called my insurance, did their research with them, and then worked out a way to lower my bill. Same work, lower bill. Nice. 3. The actual Dr is accessible to his patients. If you have an emergency, you can call his cell phone which he has listed on the voicemail. He also provides his email to clients so they can ask a quick question. I can't stand playing the telephone game - trying to explain to someone what I want them to tell my doctor. With a direct email, I don't have to. This makes them special, and very different. I just got out of having three old fillings drilled out, and filled back in - and it was so painless (emotionally, physically AND financially) that I had to write this review. I arrived for my appointment and she just said that the hygienist didn't show up that day so no cleaning... kind of like is my problem now. Or they were made by robots or written by people who inflate their ratings. Well, these ARE real, and the 5 stars is no inflation--Dr Kovalchuk and his staff deserve every star and then some. I love everyone in Dr. Kovalchuk's office! Kristen the office manager/receptionist is super personable and friendly. Ashley (dental hygienist) is sweet and knows her stuff, and Dr. Kovalchuk--well, what can I say that hasn't already been said? I came to him after not having seen a dentist in a few years (I know, I know) and turns out I had to have some dental work done--fillings and such. I hadn't gotten fillings in YEARS--like, I don't even remember the last time, maybe 15 years ago?--and was a bit nervous. OK, I was really nervous. But Dr. K and Ashley were super gentle. Zero pain. And my tooth-colored fillings look pretty amazing. Other perks: The music is great (Radiohead, LCD Soundsystem, and Peter Bjorn & John were playing to keep my toes tapping despite getting my teeth drilled on in the chair), the view is serene, and the plants (and the fish tank!) all around the office make this a calm and relaxing place. read more
