My children and I have been lucky enough to have Dr. Smida as our dentist for the past 8 years. During that time they have gone from being terrified of the dentist to asking when they can go see Dr.Branko again! As a TMJD patient I have never had a dentist go above and beyond to make sure I'm comfortable and give me adequate breaks. He doesn't upsell, he and his staff don't make you feel less than for lack of frequency with cleanings or cavities. Additionally, he calls to follow up on his treatments, making sure we feel okay, giving instructions for healing. There is nothing better than going to a modernand high tech dentistry office where retainers, bridges, etc. are made in house. My daughters have always said the hygienists are like Disney princesses! They are so kind, sweet, and gentle. read more

Very disappointed with this dental office. Dr. Smida discussed a child's dental information in the waiting room, which I found extremely unprofessional and concerning regarding patient privacy. My husband was treated here as well, and it always felt like there was another procedure waiting around the corner. At one point, I started wondering if we were at a dental office or a subscription service because somehow there was always a "next thing" to pay for. I strongly recommend getting a second opinion before agreeing to additional treatment. Based on our experience, we will not be returning. Save yourself the headache and possibly your wallet. read more

absolutely the worst when it comes to billing, they took an advantage of my 18-year-old son and tried to bill him three times the actual amount of due after the insurance paid them and this just once but twice it took us over a year to straighten out the billing although it's a great dentist office and everybody's really nice. The billing department leaves a lot to be desired. read more

I beg people. Please DO NOT GO HERE. They act like sales people. I'm writing this review so others don't experience what I did. I originally visited this office for a routine teeth cleaning, not for orthodontic treatment. During the visit, clear aligners were brought up, but the doctor did not clearly explain how long I would need to wear the aligners per day or what the full commitment would look like. Despite that, I was encouraged to move forward and ended up paying the full amount($6,187)the same day. After thinking it over, I realized this treatment did not fit my lifestyle and called the office next day to ask whether cancellation was possible. During that call, the front desk staff member told me that the aligner order had already been placed and that cancellation would be very difficult, which later turned out to be untrue. What concerned me most was that the front desk staff member -- who is not a doctor -- repeatedly tried to persuade me not to cancel for over five minutes, making statements such as: * that he personally wears aligners and drinks cocktails with no problem, and * that I probably don't need to wear the aligners exactly 20-22 hours a day. This was extremely concerning. A non-clinical staff member should not be giving medical advice or minimizing compliance requirements, especially for orthodontic treatment where wear time directly affects outcomes. It felt unsafe and inappropriate. After insisting that I only wanted to know whether cancellation was possible, I was later called back and told that the doctor had NOT placed the aligner order and the treatment plan had NOT been started, contradicting what I had been told earlier. Although they agreed to cancel, they withheld 10% of the total payment (over $600) as a "transaction/third-party fee," despite no aligners being ordered and no treatment having begun. No clear breakdown or documentation was provided. The combination of: * misleading information, * high-pressure sales tactics, * non-medical staff giving medical guidance, and * lack of transparency around fees made me lose trust in this office. Orthodontic treatment is a serious, long-term medical decision, and patients deserve accurate information and professional boundaries -- not sales pressure. I chose to discontinue care here and find a different provider. read more

These are the most uneducated front people I have ever run into. I've been going to this dentist for four months doing some recession. They let me know they take my insurance remember four months and it's after they're on the last of my filling they're goo to let me know that they don't take my insurance. What would you do? I tell them to sue me because these people are liar. They are not educated, and they lie to me. Not once but three times. read more

Great dentists. However, my dental insurance, unbenounced to me, did not kick in for three months, even though I was paying. They called my insurance to confirm that my insurance was covered, they were told I was not covered for three more months, but they never told me and I reveived a bill of almost $7000 with no dental adjustments to the insurance. read more

My husband and I have been coming here since 2018. We never had issues until recently. Our insurance recently changed and we provided them with our insurance cards. Apparently, they do not take our new insurance and never told us. Instead, they scheduled our appointments and did regular procedures for us. Again, without telling us they don't take our insurance. They've seen us twice. It wasn't until this last appointment that my husband had, that they told him they don't take our insurance which was news to us. I'm thankful for the staff that day for telling us. Now we have a big bill to take care of us. I called weeks ago to talk to the staff and have not heard back. I called again today. I am extremely disappointed. This is where we've been going since we moved to Marin. I thought they valued their patients more. It's deceiving of them to do dental work on us without telling us they don't take our insurance and we have to pay for everything out of pocket. read more

I am not sure how legal and ethical their practice of fully charging patients for the full amount of service is? If anyone has been asked to pay in full before they make an appointment? They asked me to pay over $1K to just make an appointment, and if I didn't pay they wouldn't book it. I was 100% fine not making an appointment if I have to pay in full for services I have not yet received. It makes no sense and sounds very shady, I had heard of penalties but never paying in full to just get an appointment. They claimed patients keep canceling their appointment, and this is preventative measure. Make this make sense please, what am I missing? read more

These people are THE BEST! The office is beautiful, it clearly has the latest and greatest equipment, everyone is so kind, right from setting up my appointment with Michaela. I was helped by lovely assistant Katie and wonderful dentist Dr. Lee. To top it off, they charged me a small fraction of typical amount, and have easy parking. Really can't say enough good things about this place! read more

The hygienist, Anna, was so gentle and thorough, hands-down the best cleaning I've had in 10 years. The dentist, however, immediately came up with $5k of services that I "needed" at inflated prices. He also made me wait in the chair for 20 minutes. And the "in-office-dental-plan" has no option for 2x cleanings per year, they only want you if you will do 3x per year. There was no radiation warning given by the staff prior to xrays, or cone CT. The office is very clean. Everyone was friendly. read more

Very professional and nice office. Dr Smida is very smart and also creative in his analysis.

I took my 92 year old friend here to get a comprehensive evaluation to see if the clinic could handle her ongoing dental implant cleanings. She was seen by a very pleasant young dentist named Kyle Hellstrom and paid for many X-rays. We were instructed to send over all the documents pertaining to her dental implants. That was done immediately. After multiple phone calls and emails we finally gave up on trying to get an answer regarding if the clinic would be able to clean her implants so that we would not have to travel to Walnut Creek where Clear Choice is located. A simple "no we cannot handle this" would have been great. Instead, we were ignored after paying over $300 for meeting with the dentist and the X-rays. Extremely unprofessional and quite odd for a Marin business. Maybe it's the fact that she is 92? I have no idea but I own a business and my family has always owned small businesses and I would never be so arrogant and rude to customers. read more

I've been in the dental chair many a time over - with multiple root canals, implants, crowns, braces, etc, over the years. About a year and half ago my dentist moved out of state, so I was in need of a new dentist.. I had been putting it off because the thought of sitting in another dental chair gives me anxiety due to some of the traumatic experiences I've endured over the years. After doing extensive research, I came across the Marin Advanced Dental Care office. Made my first appointment a few months back and I was very happy with the hygienist's (Kim) work. She was detailed with her cleaning, and I felt like I was in the hands of someone who cared. Also, I needed a crown and some other dental work so I saw Dr. Smida for the first time. He had a calm and caring demeanor to start which was nice. His assistant- Katie was knowledgeable and friendly as well. Now that I have received his work on my teeth, I am very satisfied. My front tooth needed repair and now looks and feels better than ever and my new crown fits perfectly. It's nice to find a specialist who takes their job seriously - presenting fine work and has a nice personality to match. Very pleased with this entire office. I would recommend this place for anyone looking for a new dental office. :) read more

Also, the staff is very friendly and professional. I've never had to wait more than a few minutes when I arrive on time for an appointment. If you're searching through the yelp reviews to find a dentist that treats you like a human, considers your needs and comfort through all procedures and want to be welcomed by a friendly staff, you gotta come here! I walked in with extreme dentist anxiety (seriously. I cried before coming to my first appointment). They instantly noticed my nerves, and made it a point to ensure I knew my options to calm my nerves for my root canal and deep cleanings. I tend to feel entirely shamed and embarrassed after visiting dentists, but I left feeling excited about the work that was going to be done. Yes, you read that right. I left excited! When I came back a week later for a root canal I was expecting the worse and expecting to come back for my permanent crown. Everything was done the same day, the procedure was fine and Dr. Smida was communicative the entire way. I woke up the next day with virtually no irritation or post-root canal pain. Thank you for a wonderful experience and taking the trauma out of visiting the dentist. You have a loyal client with me! I'm forever grateful for the care everyone gave me. read more

Kim is the best hygienist I've ever had. She was extremely thorough and took great care of me for the nearly 3 years that I saw her. I left the dental practice because the business model seems to be to max out insurance coverage every year, Dr. Smida called it "maintenance," and replacing all the work done by other dentists. He referred me to several of his colleagues for a night guard replacement, including an orthodontist, a Sleep Specialist, and my general practitioner, and in the end would not make the night guard. He's your guy if you like beautiful work and don't mind the time and cost of sitting in his chair several times a year for work you may or may not need. read more

Doc Smida and his crew rock! Big chicken that I am (I cry at a hangnail), I went in for some dental maintenance, a 'overlay' (partial crown) and 2 front teeth clean up. Yes there was Novocaine(?) and drilling, but these procedures were the most effortless and painless procedures I have ever have done. 2 hours in the chair flew by, and zero discomfort of any teeth after the anesthetic wore off. Dental Tech and front office staff were exceptionally easy to be with, and treat you like family. I told the Good Doctor he wasn't a Dentist, he is a Dental Artist. read more

I went for a routine cleaning/x-ray and exam when Dr. Smida noticed there was some growth on the roof of my mouth with an x-ray and he looked at the same area in his office with a 3D machine and confirmed what Dr. Smida suspected, that I had a cyst growing in the roof of my mouth and suggested I go to an oral surgeon. The surgeon said it was a great catch by Dr. Smida as this cyst was growing and would have caused damage to the roof of my mouth and my nose. They have the latest technology, made the crown on the premises and I left the office at noon with a new crown! Dr. Brewer explained everything, every step of the way. I've been seeing Dr. Smida for about three years now and have been always extremely pleased with both the service of the entire staff in the office and the comfort of the office, especially at their new location. And I now know what a real overbite is supposed to feel like! You can tell that Dr. Smida takes good care of his entire staff and that they are happy to be working there. I can't recommend this place enough. I went to Dr. Smida's office recently to take care of a tooth that had been bothering me for a long time. I had an old amalgam filling in my top left canine that was discoloring the tooth. It was also really sensitive to hot/cold. It was still considered a "cosmetic" issue and not covered by insurance, but it made me really uncomfortable and not happy at all with my smile. I got a bonus at work and decided to finally take care of it. A friend told me they had a good experience with Dr. Smida, so I gave the office a call... Long story short- this office is amazing! I could go on and on about how great is is, but I'll do bullet points for all you ADD yelpers out there. *How fast I got in- my (former) regular dentist wanted me to wait 6+ weeks for an appointment. I was in the chair with Dr. Smida the NEXT DAY! *Great work- Fast, painless, and an incredible new smile for yours truly. I can't stress how nice it is to see and feel. *Reasonable price- You get good work, scratch that-Fantastic work, at an affordable price *Comfortable, clean, modern office with a convenient location- he even let me set up a pandora station and gave me headphones so I didn't have to listen to the drill. *Genuine, caring, nice doctor- He listened and responded to my concerns. He carefully and completely explained everything to me before he started, which helped me get my blood pressure and pulse rate down :). *Bonus- he found that I had a bit of decay UNDER THE OLD FILLING, and had to take away more of the tooth than he originally thought. I have since found out that this is really good work, difficult and technical. I hadn't really thought about it before, but dentristry is not just mechanical- there is real technique and artistry involved as well. The color matches my other teeth, the shape is great, and most importantly the chewing surface is spot on, so my bite lines up perfectly. *Bonus part 2- I often get a nasty sore throat after a visit to the dentist if they don't suction or let me spit often enough (I make a copious amount of saliva... yep, I'm drooler, what??). He let me hold the suction and get all that gross stuff out, thanks Doc! read more

How come I can only give 5 stars?? But if I could I would give Greenbrae Dental all the stars in the sky!!! Let me say that I opened an account with Yelp just to post this about my experiences with Dr. Smida and staff. I am not a 'reviewer'.... BUT if my review can help another dental-phobe like me, then I felt compelled to write (that and to be able to give a little back to all that this office has given me... ) I am TERRIFIED of the dentist chair. Always have been. In my experience, its expensive and painful and I always got bad news. This kept me out and away for seven years. Yes, SEVEN years. I finally got up the gumption and made an appointment with Dr. Smida's office due to a mailer I received about catering to 'scaredy cats'. I thought 'Yep, that's me" so I called. Greenbrae Dental was a different experience from the get go. I was welcomed with warmth and care from amazing front of house staff including Heather the office manager. My hygienist, Andrea, was oh so tender with me and, although I was tearful and frightened, they walked me through each step of the way with kindness. I was offered music and headphones and a squeeze ball to help with my nerves. I was very self-conscious about being so afraid and in this office I felt comforted and supported. Dr. Smida met with me during this visit. He was very caring and patient he inquired about the nature of my phobias and how to address them for my health and well being. No one had ever asked me that before... We (the office and I) worked out a treatment plan together. It was quite a juggling act between limited insurance funds and the amount of work I needed done. Dr. Smida was involved in the consultations and worked with me in terms of my limitations in many ways. I felt everything was explained to me very clearly and concisely. They offered me several options of treatment and aided in me obtaining information about financing. Heather, the Office Manager, is diligent and approachable, and responsive. We split my treatment up into 3 sessions over a year period. We communicated often via phone and email. I had many questions and she answered them all thoroughly and with out impatience. When I went in for my larger procedures: fillings and crowns, Natalie was there to help me through the process. She was warm and caring and she made me laugh with a few quick wit jokes that really helped take the edge off my anxiousness. Dr. Smida is thorough and attentive. (He even assisted me to my ride home after the first partially sedated treatment!) Natalie allowed me to be involved in the process of creating the crown on the computer and educated me a bit on how the technology works. It was actually rather fascinating!! I went in for a cleaning last week and to my surprise I was not afraid at all. Andrea, my hygienist said I was like a different person. I know that it is completely due to the help and encouragement from Greenbrae Dental. As I left the office on my last visit of my final procedure, I was given a loving congrats from everyone on staff. They even gave me a gift, as they were so proud of my commitment of completing all of the treatment. I said "WE did it together!' Cause lord knows, I could not have done with out each and every member of this team. Thanks you guys! I feel like I am part of the family now and I will see you soon as I have promised myself and my wellbeing that I am going for checkups and cleanings on schedule WITH OUT fear from now on!! Now that is an AMAZING statement!! read more
