I am an established patient of Dr. Julie Young. For weeks I have not been able to make contact. I…read morehave left several text and voicemails but no one has returned my calls. I had an appointment but was trying to postpone till a later date but no luck in doing this. My appointment date has come and gone but have heard nothing, they didn't even try to confirm my appointment which is unusual. I have given up on them.

My 1st time took 3x longer than any other dental appt I'd had and was pretty uncomfortable, but I…read moredecided to give her another chance. Due to the limited number of dentists who take my insurance, I stayed with Dr. Young for some time. During every single cleaning, she would tell me I had a new cavity that needed filling. I had not had one since early childhood and my insurance covers cleanings but I had to pay out of pocket for fillings... During my last X-ray, I apparently had another cavity despite being told earlier in that same appt. that I had great teeth and was taking good care of them. She then proceeded to ask me if I thought she should put in a filling. I asked her if she (the dentist) felt it was needed. She thought about it for a minute and said she would do the filling. To this day, I highly regret not saying no, as the experience genuinely traumatized me. During the filling, she had her dental assistant with her, who she was very rude towards. As a patient, it was really uncomfortable to be sat there and watch how she would talk to her. For context, her assistant was a Black woman who told me she'd only been there for a month. Dr. Young started my filling, became frustrated with her assistant, then called it a day after nearly 20 mins. She said I was good to go, and I now know the filling was not properly sealed. That same night, the plaster-like filling that was left on my tooth fell out and I now had a hole in the back of my incisor, which made it extremely difficult to eat/drink/breathe because of the exposed nerves. I left a VM that night asking to be brought in the next day, and had to call again when I did not receive a call back by noon. I was told to come in that afternoon, and when I did, Dr. Young said she was not able to help me and that I would need to wait until next week for her to fix it because she'd, "been having issues with her bonding agent and a new shipment would be arriving then." I asked if I was supposed to walk around with a hole in my tooth for the remainder of the week, and she asked me if it was causing me such immense pain that I couldn't do that. Upon confirming it was, she begrudgingly took a look. She said it was a bad day for me to come in, as her dental assistant had quit and she was having trouble finding someone to replace her. "People from Southern Marin (Marin City) don't want to work", she said to the WOC in her chair, "have you noticed that as well?" When I told her that no, I hadn't heard anyone ever say that, she seemed shocked and just laughed it off. After this interaction, she then told me that anything she could do about my tooth would be temporary and unlikely to last through the weekend, so I had to wait until next week. At that point, I could tell she wasn't going to take accountability or offer any solution (and I honestly just wanted to get out of there after her comment on "people from Southern Marin"), so I booked an appt for Monday and bought temporary filling from CVS. Come Monday, I get to her office after a painful weekend and she tries to tell me that she cannot assist me because she is booked for the day. I explain to her receptionist that this is the third time I am here and her receptionist tells her she needs to fix my filling. Dr. Young starts her second attempt at my filling, and when I ask for no lidocaine (her application is very painful and the amount she uses made my mouth numb for +6 hours), she asked several more times to use it. I firmly say no, and with the pain I felt over the weekend, the pain of the filling was nothing. She completes the filling after nearly 35 mins and I can immediately feel a difference, which confirmed my original fear that she had botched my 1st filling. At the end, she begins filing my tooth side next to my front tooth. I imagine this was to ensure there was enough of a gap to floss, but after this entire experience, I was quite fearful that she would file my other tooth or improperly finish this filling as well. My time with her has honestly been the worst experience I've ever had with any medical professional. I grew up going to community clinics and expected a private practice to have better quality care, but this was not the case. I've spent my life caring for my teeth and having her give me a faulty, unnecessary filling in a tooth at the front of my smile and file it down so there is now a gap between my teeth (after I spent thousands on braces) has deeply affected my self esteem surrounding my smile. I still feel anxious with dentists and despite it being nearly a year later, I still feel pain when eating from the physical act of biting and increased temp sensitivity from the (w)hole experience. I could not recommend a dentist less and do not know how she's still in business. I'm grateful for her receptionist's help, but I wish I had listened to my gut after the 1st appt. Please protect yourself & your smile and go to a different dentist.

I beg people. Please DO NOT GO HERE. They act like sales people. I'm writing this review so others…read moredon't experience what I did. I originally visited this office for a routine teeth cleaning, not for orthodontic treatment. During the visit, clear aligners were brought up, but the doctor did not clearly explain how long I would need to wear the aligners per day or what the full commitment would look like. Despite that, I was encouraged to move forward and ended up paying the full amount($6,187)the same day. After thinking it over, I realized this treatment did not fit my lifestyle and called the office next day to ask whether cancellation was possible. During that call, the front desk staff member told me that the aligner order had already been placed and that cancellation would be very difficult, which later turned out to be untrue. What concerned me most was that the front desk staff member -- who is not a doctor -- repeatedly tried to persuade me not to cancel for over five minutes, making statements such as: * that he personally wears aligners and drinks cocktails with no problem, and * that I probably don't need to wear the aligners exactly 20-22 hours a day. This was extremely concerning. A non-clinical staff member should not be giving medical advice or minimizing compliance requirements, especially for orthodontic treatment where wear time directly affects outcomes. It felt unsafe and inappropriate. After insisting that I only wanted to know whether cancellation was possible, I was later called back and told that the doctor had NOT placed the aligner order and the treatment plan had NOT been started, contradicting what I had been told earlier. Although they agreed to cancel, they withheld 10% of the total payment (over $600) as a "transaction/third-party fee," despite no aligners being ordered and no treatment having begun. No clear breakdown or documentation was provided. The combination of: * misleading information, * high-pressure sales tactics, * non-medical staff giving medical guidance, and * lack of transparency around fees made me lose trust in this office. Orthodontic treatment is a serious, long-term medical decision, and patients deserve accurate information and professional boundaries -- not sales pressure. I chose to discontinue care here and find a different provider.

I had only had two cavities my whole life. I know it sounds like I misunderstood her, but I had the care estimate when I left. Its a very large practice, so maybe they confused my X rays with someone else's. Or they just were not being honest. I continued to take excellent care of my teeth, and two years later, had no issues with my "9 cavities". I trusted my instinct, had no tooth pain before I saw this dentist, and had no tooth problems in the two years in between that visit and my appt. with Dr. Bauer. When I went into Dr. Bauer and he did a professional assessment of my teeth, miraculously the cavities that I supposedly had ALL went away. Kind of shocking actually that this other dentist would do something like this, and I can't give them the benefit of the doubt. 4k is 4k. This was their estimate for my 9 cavities. In addition to him not trying to fill mystery cavities, he and his staff were professional, and I was in and out in an hour with a basic cleaning, new x-rays, and kept my 2 cavity winning streak. I'll definitely be referring my business and now have a great dentist here in MV. Thanks Dr. Bauer!

Three years back a broken filling meant I had to pluck up my courage, so searched online for dentists that worked with dental phobias and found Doc McConnell at Marin Modern Dentistry. And what an excellent find. He and his team spent a couple of years putting right a lifetime of dental neglect, which required major work including referrals to ortho surgeons... but the crew at MMD helped me through each stage offering different levels of sedation and stress remediation until we are now at the stage that regular cleaning with no sedation is all I need. Most important, every person at MMD listened to my issues, and better still... remembered them next time I was in the chair.
