I went to Lens Crafters to get my new glasses. I had been saving up for a pair of Versace frames I really wanted! And they had them. They also have a great selection. Thus they get 2 stars instead of 1.
So I arrive from my eye exam at 9 am, when they are opening, and see a crowd of 6-8 folks all dressed in black, smoking like a chimney, it looked like an AA meeting just let out. I did not say anything even though it is illegal to be that close to an entrance and smoking, I figured- hey, in AA you need all the help you can get. But then I got finished with the exam and go to select the glasses , and who do I see? The smokers were all employees!!! I mentioned to the manager, who was helping me, that this was not professional, nor was it legal. She said they had a staff meeting that morning, and where else were they all supposed to smoke? Out back? um, yeah. Like everyone that smoked in the restaurants I have worked in---you do not smoke in front of the place of business that you work at!
So, I selected 2 frames- a different Versace frame then I originally thought I wanted, but that are gorgeous- I LOVE them, and get compliments all the time, and a cheap frame for a spare set of sunglasses because they were on sale. They take the measurements, etc. I come in a week later---thank god I live nearby.
The glasses were not ready. I mean, they were, but when I tried them on, there was a visible gap between the frames and lenses on. The sunglasses were also died brown instead of the black I had requested. They confirmed that the lenses were the wrong color. And hemmed and hawed about the frames fitting the lenses just fine, but if I insisted they would "fix" them. The gap on the sunglasses measured, easily 2 mm at the widest point... I was not crazy, it was a huge gap that would have meant the lenses would fall out and break. Oh, and the regular glasses were not ready---they required special order lenses, but they had called and told me they were ready?
So, they sent them back in to the lab (in the back of the room), and a week later, I got them back again...the sunglasses were still the wrong color (their own records confirmed this). Back they went, and a week later both pair were supposedly ready. The sunglasses were. THe regular ones were again, not. They were at the store finally, but the wire holding the lenses in was poking out- the lenses had been shaped too much. Back they went.
It was 5 weeks, and 3-4 visits, and when I finally came back this time, they were all ready.
Mind you, the same manager that told me that smoking in front was apparently ok in her book had helped me all along, until the 2-3 time when a new gal did. She insisted on me taking her card, which I did, and told me she would call me when things were ready, finally, and she would inspect them herself. Well, then I got the call, not from her, but I figured, that was not weird. But I got to the store, and the same incompetent manager (a petit asian-looking woman), told me that that other person had been fired, and that she would still be helping me. Weird, that other manager (I forget her name now), still had her license posted on the wall??? And a few months later, I noticed her going into the store (I was getting vitamins at the Vitamin Shoppe across the parking lot). This looks very odd to me- what is up with that manager? Why lie like that?
Anyway, like I said- lucky I live a mile away! Cause it took 4-5 trips to get 2 pair of glasses. I LOVE the glasses- they are awesome, and I would use LC again- just not this location. read more
