I went to Carlsbad Optometry for years before it changed owners. Went there 2 years ago and my contact lenses were buried in other room. Noticed they got new Optometrist so thought I'd try it again. I saw Dr Ly. Dr Ly didn't test close up vision, but put "high" (+2.25) add on for glasses prescription. How did Dr Ly know this when I wasn't tested for close up vision? I spoke to office mgr after appt and she was very knowledgeable but she didn't perform vision test. Had answers for everything. Will go elsewhere for vision exams. read more

Horrible experience. They could not find my insurance, and I rarely use it so didn't have the info on hand, so I had to reschedule. When I came back with my insurance information they still treated me as though I was someone without insurance and proceeded to make me wait while they called my insurance. In the meantime I was called to go back for my appointment only to be told by to front desk person no he's not cleared yet...Once the receptionist was off the phone, I was told that I had a $10 copay but that my insurance didn't cover a contact lens exam. I knew this wasn't true as I had just reviewed my policy online before coming into this appointment. When I questioned the receptionist she mentioned that the insurance agent was breaking up on the other line. Do not be fooled by the high yelp review that this business carries, it will be a very unpleasant and incompetent experience. Take your business elsewhere like I plan to. read more

First, I gotta say I don't have that much of a problem with my appointment or the doctor. She is perfectly lovely Person. However, there is the staff that comes afterwards that you get to order your glasses from. To start, I spend as little as I can, but I get a $200 credit for my insurance company so I try to keep it around that amount. We dance around the exotic anti-glare which I can't tell the difference. And the self shading which is covered by insurance so I do it and then to have bifocals that have no line you need to pay extra for that so I don't mind the line. So this was the first time I have a problem with distance it's not very much but it's a tiny bit. It's my first time and being as old as I am I'm lucky. I just need the Reading glasses. I get a new pair every two years so I did order the bifocals with the distance also. And it took about two weeks and I got them and they handed them to me and I put them in my car. I did try them on to see if distance really made a difference, but it wasn't that big of a difference. Later I took my wife there to have her glasses done and her eyes checked and while we were there for her appointment. I mentioned to the back staff while ordering glassesthat I had bifocals and they were free and my wife should be able to do that and she looked at my file and said no they're not bifocals they're just for distance. And I said no that's impossible. I don't really need distance but I do need reading glasses and she said no I'm sure of it so I ran off to the car got the glasses and the lady was right although I was led to believe I was getting two lenses in my glasses one for reading and one for distance. It was only for distance so in order to avoid any other confusion, I told him don't worry about the distance, just give me bifocals so I can use them for reading and I left it at that but they got it wrong. So my wife gets her glasses done and she orders and I have to pay some because my wife likes to spend a little money and she had them for seeing the person in front of you and for reading glasses because therefore work. And she got them and tried them but then after a few days, she said "these are really weird and they're giving me a headache and my brain can't figure out what to do when I wear them" so I told her no problem. We have 30 days so she got home early from work and we went to the doctors office which is usually very busy so we ate first because we didn't want to sit there for a long time and wait. And no one was there! Which was perfect and so we told the receptionist what we wanted to do and she said have a seat. Because no one was there I didn't even ask how long it would be. But it turns out that it was a half hour waiting for someone on the phone and then asking after 25 minutes "I didn't realize I had to ask how long it would be because there was No clients here but how long is it gonna be?" And she said she should be off the phone in just a moment, which was true she was off the phone in just a moment and then she proceeded to tell one of the receptionist about her phone call and then she proceeded to help the patient that came out of the office and help her with her glasses. At this point I've been waiting a half hour with nobody else there while she was on the phone and then she gossip about it afterwards and then she took someone in front of us with no explanation to us whatsoever so of course being my rude self I said we have been waiting for a half hour and she said " you didn't have an appointment. This woman has been scheduled so I am helping her first" so she finished up with the lady and she came out and I said my wife doesn't like these glasses. They are confusing her brain and giving her a headache and then I tried them on and saw what she was talking about. I could tell because my wife and I have a very close prescription that these glasses were just done wrong. And all I wanted them to do was do the whole thing in reading and she said "well there's nothing I can do for you. You didn't even have to see me because you have to see the doctor first" that was pretty snippy. So We made an appointment and we left. And went shopping and when we got done shopping, I said I'm just gonna drop them off and leave a note and say we don't want to see the doctor. Needless to say we're never going back there. They got my prescription wrong and my wife's prescription wrong and then proceeded to make us wait when nobody was there and then was rude to us when we finally did get to talk to them so I left a note asking for just plain reading glasses, you have the prescription. And to refund the additional monies. That was spent for this pair that doesn't work. We'll see what happens. But definitely did not want to have another appointment with the doctor. I don't think the doctor is the problem. But also don't wanna go there ever again. This was long winded, but extraordinarily annoying. I'm very sorry about that read more

I've been going to Carlsbad Optometry for around 2 years so far. Besides amazing care, I've noticed the employees here work really well together. They communicate with each other, but at the same time, make sure they greet and help us patients as well. This is huge in my book! The business runs super efficiently. Anyone who goes here knows they're constantly busy - but it has impressed me that they've stayed on time for each of my appointments. Having an office run this smoothly really proves they know what they're doing. The doctors I've seen here (3 in all) are each so thorough, they take time to listen to my concerns and give great advice. I've been so happy with the glasses I've gotten as well as my contacts. My son even learned to put his contacts in here, with a very patient employee - I appreciate this so much! SAFETY: As far as being safe during this year of Covid - there hasn't been another business I've been to that has taken precautions as seriously as here. They have hand sanitizer everywhere, air purifiers in each room (even the bathroom!), appointments have to be made even when picking up your glasses/contacts and there are clean/dirty trays of pens on each desk. If Covid's flying around at all - IT AIN'T HERE! All in all, my whole family has received impeccable care here. She told me I could use 30 day contacts and just keep them past the 30 days until 30 daily uses were used up and that's not the truth. I need to throw them out after 30 days no matter how long I keep them. Otherwise, they can cause infection however, I had to learn that on my own. read more

On my way to the appointment that was scheduled for 3:40, I received an email at 3:31 stating it is canceled due to a scheduling conflict. The actual doctors here are nice, the equipment is modern but I'm done with Carlsbad Optometry. Yes, they let you bring in your own frame if you aren't fond of any of the limited frame selection in their lobby or their high pressure tactics to make a decision quickly over something that costs a lot and you are going to wear every day. One of the big sticking points with me is their customer service of adjusting your frames is subpar. I may have brought my own frames in but I ordered and I paid a lot for my lenses with them, even after insurance coverage. I ended up having to go on youtube and doing it myself because my frames are completely lopsided (because my ears aren't even). I've had glasses all of my life and every other doctors office I've ever walked out of (including mall optometry places) were better than this. Then try to get your full RX (PD included) because you want to buy a second cheap pair online and they make such a fuss instead of handing it over right away. My insurance only covers one pair every 12 months and I need a back up pair for doing outdoor yard work, because I don't want to mess up my nice pair. Twice I had to bicker with them to get it. I've been coming to Carlsbad Optometry for about 10 years. I just picked up a copy of my prescription, so I never have to come back here again. I used to look forward to coming here. The capable staff was friendly, positive, and personable. Dr. Millet was not only a great optometrist, she was also a joy to be around. It's a shame she left. Now for the bad news. Let's start with their website. Don't bother trying to make an appointment here. It will let you make appointments that aren't available and will fail to list appointments that are. My new optometrist, Dr. Volk, allowed me to order progressives for computer and reading. He failed to tell me there wasn't enough variation to justify progressives. Dr. Song clued me in on that. He's pretty good. When I picked up my glasses, I knew right away they were not going to work. At first, they tried to convince me that I should try them out for a while. I told them, and showed them why they wouldn't work. After arguing with me for a few minutes, they finally conceded and ordered me a pair of single-vision glasses. It took a couple days to get hold of the office manager, Sylvia. She told me she would talk to the doctor and get back to me by end of day. That was over a month ago. Still waiting for that call. Not sure what happened to Jenna at the front desk. Shaw was always pleasant. With the new front desk staff, I feel like my presence is an irritation to them. No "Hello, how can I help you?", no smile, no eye contact. Today, I made three failed attempts to get a copy of my prescription email to me. Finally, I gave up and went to the office to get it. Ive always gone to the usual lenscrafters, costco, or other big name cheap places and its a world of difference. -They have the latest tech to make your visit easy and comfortable. No puffs of air into your eyeballs -all of the vision test is done on a digital screen and the way it changes the different lens is all electronic! -Dr. Tiffany Turner was amazing. I never felt rushed, she was super patient with me during the eye exam and throughly explained everything and made sure I was all good. I hated all the other places because i could feel the Doctors being annoyed while i asked questions or wanted to see if "3" or "4" was clearer. It was that time for an annual eye appointment. After moving to Carlsbad, it became a chore to drive down 30min to see our regular doctors. I love my optometrist in Ranch Bernardo but she was just too far. I did some yelping and found this office. They had great reviews so I thought why not? SERVICE - When I came in, I was welcomed by a woman sitting at a desk to the left. She checked me in and then the women at the front desk helped me. I spoke with Mel and she was really sweet! I filled out the basic new patient forms and then was seen by a technician, who did the prescreening. After a few minutes, I was immediately greeted by Dr. Lucia Millet. OPTOMETRIST - First of all, Dr. Millet is gorgeous!! Obviously not important but hey, thought I would note it. She was incredibly knowledgeable and made the entire appointment painless. Not that optometry appointments are painful but she was so personable that she made the appointment fly by. I love that she was a little quirky and not "uptight" like other optometrist I have encountered. I would highly recommend this office and Dr. Millet. Great and professional staff. They also do not pressure you into buying anything or push you to get extra exams done. I will continue to see this office as long as we are in Carlsbad! read more

The doctors and staff were very nice, helpful and took care of everything I needed. Place is clean and the doctors are very knowledgeable.

I called this business to find out if they could put non-prescription lenses into a new pair of frames. I explained to the woman who answered the phone that I didn't need to have my eyes checked, but she started looking through her calendar and asked me when I could come in to see the optometrist. When I repeated that I didn't need an eye appointment and only needed non-prescription lenses, she put me on hold then came back to the phone to tell me they'd need to "start a chart on me." What a ridiculous requirement. I then called an optometrist in Carlsbad Village--they told me to come in anytime and they'd take care of me. And they did. I had brand new lenses in my frames a few days later. No one there said anything to me about "starting a chart" or seeing their optometrist. I won't be calling Carlsbad Optometry again. read more

The office staff was fine. I was a patient here in 2022 the Doctor was great then. Dr Tillman replaced her. I would never go back to this practice. My appoint was over an hour delayed. Never contacted even though I was sent conformation text all morning. Not notified of the delay until I walked in the door. Once seen Dr Tillman, she did not answer one question I asked her. She continued to repeat herself and never answered any direct questions. At one point she become confrontational about my health history. My records we released to her in October, but the office never verified they had received them before my appointment. They were not received. She was using old records and was not interested in changes in my eyesight. I told her during the test things were blurry, but she rushed me out stating "I think we found you a good prescription." The prescription she wrote me is less strength then the past 2 years even though my eyesight is much worse now. Concerned about paying for new eyeglasses with the prescription she wrote me. Worst eye appointment EVER! I went to this office because my old optometrist's office started having issues. That office was wonderful compared to Dr Tillman! read more

Katherine Jennifer Witmeyer (the owner) and Catlsbad Optometry are truly unethical, untrustworthy and the worst business that I have EVER dealt with. I brought frames to them that I purchased overseas and they broke them. Instead of honestly seeking to replace them, they lied, obfuscated, and then FINALLY promised to pay for them (and then tried to ghost me but then hired an inept law firm - Solomon Ward Seidenwurm & Smith LLP - to try and pressure me to agree to something other than what was agreed). I took her to small claims court and won a judgment against her for my destroyed property. Do business with them at your OWN RISK! Also, never sign their "frame waiver" in case they cause you damage. All of this happened during the Pandemic and I want everyone to know how unprofessional and untrustworthy they are so that this DOES NOT HAPPEN TO YOU. Pretty bad experience here. First they messed up my Rx for glasses so after a few weeks of struggling with them trying to read from 3 feet away, I went in to find out the person who performed part of the exam made an error with marking my pupils for my frame. She said it would take 7-10 days but after over 3 weeks, I never heard back so I called in and she said something along the lines their computer system was jacked up but they would re-submit and have my glasses ready in about a week. Two weeks later still no word and then finally 3rweeksw later, i get a text to say there has "been an update on my order" but when I called i was told they still weren't in yet - just that they had gotten word that they're coming. Finally they came in and when i went in to pick them up the girl said she was glad they were able to make this right. What?! They didn't make anything right. I honestly believe that if I had never called to check on my glasses, I would've never heard back from them and it would have completely fallen through the cracks. And the glasses I got back still aren't exactly right for reading but at this point, there's no way I'm going back to this office for anything. read more

I've gone here for several years, and always forget to make my next contact exam until I run out of my existing supply. In the past I've purchased an individual set to get me through until they have an opening. I called today to do that and make my appointment and was told that because I don't normally buy my entire years supply from them, they wouldn't allow this. They aren't scheduling until late January. With wearing masks it's extremely difficult to do without contacts when I prefer not to wear my glasses even under normal circumstances. I received a voicemail to take an appt of someone who cancelled next week so I called back a few minutes later to schedule it but they had filled it within 5 minutes without even a chance to respond. Exam from Dr Millet, was more thorough than I have ever had. Very professional. Office staff was helpful and informative. I selected a pair of frames, and they fitted me for the lenses. Less than two weeks later, I had new glasses. Never in 40 years of wearing glasses have I not needed time to adjust to the new glasses, as far as the bifocal line is. Not this time. I've been to several optometrists during my eight years in Carlsbad but haven't been happy with any of them. A little over two years ago when Dr. Katherine Witmeyer, O.D., F.A.A.O., opened her doors in Bressi Ranch I thought I'd give her a try. Not only is her office conveniently located half way between my house and my work, but she and her staff are fabulous! Dr. Witmeyer's knowledge, compassion and warm personality always result in an effective and pleasant visit. I appreciate her comprehensive and thorough approach to exams. I have no idea what Michelle J. is talking about. Just read everyone else's comments and you'll see that this business has earned a great reputation from its level of professionalism and A+ service. I have referred at least 5 people to Dr. Witmeyer and they all LOVE her and her staff. It's easy to get an appointment either by calling or booking online. They are closed on Mondays but they are open Tuesdays-Saturday with very convenient hours. The quality of care is exceptional. Very thorough diagnosis and evaluation. Patient care is emphasized at this practice which has been at Bressi Village for several years. I like that Dr. Witmeyer is well educated (went to Berkeley) and has a lot of experience in the field of Optometry. She's even willing to look at my son's patient records from Shiley Medical Center thereby saving us a drive down to La Jolla. My husband and I both go to Dr. W and even our 4 year old son is now seeing her. He wears glasses and has as a young baby. We would frequently go to the office to get his glasses adjusted and even though we got the glasses at Kinderspecs in Encinitas, the staff at Carlsbad Optometry was always happy to help us. When we found out that they would accept VSP for our son's visits as well as glasses we were sold. They have a great selection of glasses for both kids and adults all at reasonable prices to fit every budget. The staff is very up front about costs, out-of-pocket, and they work with your budget on frames/glasses/contacts so there's no funny business going on here. In addition, the follow up care is exceptional. We go in frequently to get our glasses readjusted, fixed, etc. They are very committed to their patients and it shows. I had a great experience at Carlsbad Optometry. I recently got my first pair of glasses and was feeling off balance when wearing them. I decided to try a different optometrist and ended up here. It turns out my first prescription was correct and it was expected that I may feel like my vision is a bit warped at first. My last optometrist did not tell me this! Carlsbad Optometry did a great job explaining to me what side-effects to expect as I get used to my prescription and even went the extra mile to give me a more mild prescription that won't give me absolute perfect vision, but will reduce my dizziness so I can get used to glasses while driving. Overall fantastic experience. I would recommend them for their attention to detail and willingness to work with you to get a prescription that works for you! read more
