I have never been to a more caring and friendly practice…read more My partner has been going to Nilsen for years and has always said it was a great experience. I had previously gone to another practice but had a hard time getting an appointment this time, so I went to Nilsen on my husband's recommendation. Nilsen takes Covid safety very seriously and keeps everything immaculately clean. They have an outdoor check-in location and keep everyone spaced inside. Everything is wiped down thoroughly between patients. Wait times are short. Staff is helpful and so friendly. Everyone is absolutely lovely here. Examination is thorough and everything is explained so well. Personally, I find eye exams a bit overwhelming and scary, but I felt totally at ease here and well educated about my eye health. Working with my insurance is also easy. Great in-house selection of glasses frames too. My husband has also gotten frame repairs done very quickly and easily at the practice. I cannot recommend Nilsen enough. They put you at ease and work hard to make everything easy and comfortable for the patient.

She insisted I feel the order and that was normal. Later when I got an eye infection from the improper fit that she fitted me for not the eye doctor. Now they have charged me over and over and wants me to pay again for another set of contacts that should have been taken care of when I said my contacts hurt. You cannot see your eye doctor again because they block you.. Worst place I have ever been. When I finally did see an eye doctor her first thing was you was fitted improperly and we can refit you with a proper pair.. even told me my contacts was under warranty. But when I went back the ASSISTANT again blocked me from the doctor and wants me to pay full price again. Do not go to this place it is not the same anymore. I would give them a 0 if I could.

It's giving someone might be making a pot of fresh collards in the back :). The office feels like your oldest aunties house, which I love. Some may say it's dated, but I disagree. It's one of those feelings where you're like this place has GOOD BONES. More importantly, if it ain't broke don't fix it. When you walk in you're greeted by the receptionist (his wife I think). She gets you checked in and you wait in the "front parlor", for them to call you back. When I was taken back to the office, I was reminded why I love coming here. The huge eye machine they use is my favorite color pink and it takes me to a place of shiny and new COULD NEVER!! Dr. Tiwari is a great listener. I never feel as if he's rushing, he takes his time to converse with you and go over your exam thoroughly. We always have wonderful conversations, and I feel comfortable asking him anything. I def recommend and will continue to go back. PS they do have a 2nd location in Petersburg. PPS -- you know I couldn't leave a review without letting y'all know: The bathroom is clean and smells fine! You certainly can use the bathroom at this establishment -- and parking is in the back :)

We had to schedule an eye exam for my mom, who has Alzheimer's, as she's lost her glasses and we've been unable to refill them on a pretty old prescription. All of the employees and Dr. Bennett were so pleasant, patient and caring in dealing with us! It can be very difficult finding providers who are caring and patient, but I was blown away by how easy they made it and the care they showed my mom.

The staff was friendly and Dr. Aslop was awesome and very competent, but even after purchasing the $55 Groupon I was out $284 for a total of $339. It was supposed to include an eye exam and $125 toward a pair of frames. Okay, I can pay for the lenses. Those normally aren't too bad. I was charged $50/lense then $75 for anti-glare and another $25 for installation. I was given a $125 credit for a pair of $209 frames. That's where the $84 came from. My recommendation would be go to Sam's or Walmart then send your prescription to Warby Parker. You can get frames and lenses for $95 from Warby Parker which includes anti-reflective prescription lenses, anti-scratch, free shipping and 30-day return. You should be able to get an eye exam and stylish glasses for about $200. Lesson learned.

During our visit, the location lost power and the alarm sounded for over an hour. While I understand situations like this can happen, the way the situation was handled was unprofessional. Staff were rude, and the doctor in particular had a very unpleasant attitude. My daughter was eventually seen, but I was told I would need to reschedule my exam. This was frustrating because I had already completed the pretest and was told I would only need to see the doctor. When I returned for my rescheduled appointment, I was required to redo the pretest, despite explaining that I had just been there a few days prior. The staff appeared confused about why I was there, and the doctor repeatedly questioned my visit, making comments such as asking if I "didn't like" my previous exam which was not the case. I was there because they rescheduled me. The remainder of the exam felt uncomfortable and unprofessional. At the end, the doctor dismissively told me I could "go out there and someone can help you pick out glasses." At that point, I decided to leave. I did not feel respected as a patient and chose not to spend any additional money there. Overall, the lack of professionalism, poor communication, and rude behavior from staff and the doctor made this a very negative experience. I would not recommend this location.

This is too bad, honestly, because it's a place absolutely dedicated to the best possible experience and the best possible fit for you and your eyes. They're very flexible and very familial, and dedicated to up-to-date technology and hand-crafted accuracy. I also deeply appreciate that they've always had good advice for me on how to afford something I -like-. I've never been upsold on anything, unlike larger commercial places, but I've never been sold anything that felt like a compromise either. It pays to note I am an inherited customer from my long-time optometrist [a dear man who kept careful notes so he could cheerfully ask me how life had gone since I saw him last]. It is a testament to the skill and warmth of Doctors Lindsay and Kurt Jung that I have not suffered the least hiccough or disappointment from the transition when he retired. As long as this office is open and I am within 200 miles of it, I will continue to come here, happily driving from out of town for the experience [which I am doing currently].
