The staff is always friendly and pretty knowledgeable. They are willing to go out of their way to solve the issues you may have. Recently visited this store to get my home ready for the summer and wanted to visit an Ace Store for the first time in forever. I definitely know what I am doing when it comes to home projects and don't get me wrong, the employees were friendly but also the employees are quite condescending at the same time about my purchases. This has always been my go to store and the people working there are so helpful. I believe in supporting local businesses. Some of the employees had become friends who helped me out outside of the store doing odds and ends for me . Sad to say I had an insulting experience with the manager or owner a few days ago. I asked one of the young men who works there ( who use to work in a Homer nursery ) which hose is best. He said that the nursery used the Flexilla hoses and they are great. So I purchased the nearly $100 hose at noon and took it home. When my parents 60 plus year old caregiver tried to attach it to the spicket , it would not attach due to no threads. They were either tampered with or they were made that way as a malfunction and failure of quality control to check them before sending out for distribution. When I went to return it less than 24 hours later, I got a polite third degree asking how did we try to attach it. I will tell you that you can't attach a hose with messed up threads. Clearly, he was accusing us of doing this. I said I wanted the hose but I have no use for one that can't be connected. He said more would be coming in a few days. I called and was told they had two. When I got there, the young man had put one on the side. I asked him to show me the ends and he said he already pulled out the ends to check. That's all I ask, to have a $100 hose that works. The fact that it was written on receipt" thread confirmed-no return" is distasteful and a further confirmation of insult to me. Since it was packaged and tied when I got it, it doesn't take much to realize it was a lemon out of the factory. Yes, that happens my friend. You can't go wrong here. Helpful and polite employees anytime I go in. They are always more than willing to help get what you need or help you find a solution to what you are trying to accomplish. Doesn't matter the size of the project. Also, if for some reason one employee isn't completely sure they find another that they know will have the answer and they look at it as they learned something new today as well to be able to help the next customer that might have the same question or issue that you do. We have been very impressed with the courteous, knowledgeable and friendly staff at this Ace Hardware in Lemont. It is the ONLY place we have been able to find curbside bbq gas tank exchanges and it couldn't be easier (all other stores require you to go inside to pay.) Pull up to front of store with empty tank and payment in trunk (cash or credit card), call store to let them know you're here for propane tank exchange and employee comes out, takes tank and payment then leaves receipt with change or credit card in the trunk with the new tank. Easy and safe. Thanks Lemont Ace Hardware!! I would definitely use them for other hardware needs if they arise. read more

I try to shop local. Ace has items other hardware store don't. Today I encountered the rudest most ignorant employee. Told her the item she was showing me was not what I was looking for and her reply in an angry tone was 'Well, that's all we have.' Told her I looked on web site before I came in and she again tells me in an even angrier voice that they don't have it. Told her I would look around since she wasn't being helpful. She says 'Go ahead, but your not going to find it'. I did find it and went to show her so she knows that the store does have it and she says 'Are you happy now'. Word to wise, wait til the customer is out of the store before you start talking about them. read more

Store doesn't have items specifically advertised in their Lemont Ace Hardware ad; and won't write rain checks. Manager of Lemont location is very rude and owner of this and the Palos Ace, is no better. They don't get the concept of customer service. read more
