Jim immediately asked if he could help. We looked at several models and Jim patiently went through all the models with us. We finally found one we liked. Ordering it brought in two more gentlemen to help with the process. They worked as a team to get it ordered and Tim organized the delivery and install when it comes in. Talk about a bad experience that got worse even AFTER we got home... My dad and I decided to paint the ceiling of his entire house while I was in town visiting. We started with checking out Consumer Reports and public reviews of ceiling paints before we went out and after busting at two stores, I decided to give Menards a call. The automated call system was easy to use and my call was quickly answered after being transferred. Our positive experience ended there. I was told that they carried two types of ceiling paint available in 5 gallon buckets, that both the paints were in stock, and that they recommend their premium option Paramount. I double checked that it was indeed ceiling paint and available in the 5 gallon format and that was confirmed. After we got there, the paint which was recommended was not available in the 5 gallon format. They also didn't have 5 single gallons in stock. As we were short on time and the rep said that the paint was truly one coat, we bought the single gallons they had. After loading the paint onto a cart for us, we proceeded to the checkout and went home after getting a rebate form at guest services (daily 11% off rebate, unsure why it's not automatic at checkout). Also, although we read online that they had a discount for seniors, they do not have that offer in this store. After getting home and setting up to paint, we realized that the rep didn't shake up the paint cans. He didn't even offer! Sure we forgot to ask too, but talk about lack of service. Menards isn't close to us and we decided to go ahead and stirred it ourselves. Unfortunately, the paint drips... We're pretty disappointed with this whole experience and will be driving back to return the unopened cans. read more

Every year about this time, I make a run to Menards for something else to fill in some places in my garden. Found these white metal tubs that could be used for plants or drinks. Nice selection of vegetables for planting. Got some tomatoes and squash. Always impressed with the quality of their plants. Should be a great addition to my garden. And the price was good too. I was waiting in line to order outdoor materials that had to be picked up in back of the store, behind the gate. There was a customer in front of me, who had an order to correct. I was being patient, but there was a point where the employee had to take extra time, so I was stuck there going on 10 minutes. She never called anyone over to help me. To make it worse, there was a young employee who walked past me multiple times. He wasn't going anywhere, just kept coming out from the separate stock area that was in back of the employee I was waiting in line for. He noticed me standing there in line and I looked over his way when he'd appear (I was several feet away from the other customer, so it was clear we weren't together), but he didn't call me over or ask if I needed help. It looked like he was going out of his way to pretend he didn't see me, to be honest. I initially thought he was on a break or that his job may not involve ringing customers orders up, but that wasn't the case. He was just lazy and didn't want to help anyone. He didn't want to do his job. I ended up walking to his area, where he was casually killing time chatting with another employee. I don't care if employees do that when no one is around to help, but it was obvious I needed assistance. If it's not obvious, bad customer service bothers me. I did nothing to deserve being ignored. I shouldn't have had to initiate the help when both employees knew I had been waiting for awhile. read more

This place is AMAZING! If they don't have it, you probably don't need it. Walking in the door we saw chain saws, bikes and grills. As we walked further into the building, the size hit you. This place is massive. One over sized poll barn with everything from old style 3 penny nails to small far equipment, washer/driers, rabbit food, pillows for your bed and pillows for your dog's bed. I will say the item we were pricing, 8" cedar fencing sections were 40% higher than Home Depot, but unlike Home Depot, they had them in stock. The moral of the story; if you need an item, they probably have it. However, if you have a little time, shop around and you will probably save money. read more

We have been in our house for a little over a year now and Menards is a 5min drive from our home. In the past The Home Depot had always been my choice. As we started to work on projects and fix things around the house, Menards was just so convenient. As the projects grew and as we learned my main appreciation for Menards is their return policy. They have a kiosk on site in the case that you have lost your receipt, but even if you have paid cash still talk to the front desk they have been able to help me every time. We often have bought the wrong item, wrong size, wrong something lol and have yet to have problems returning something. We bought a tile saw and literally less than 10 tiles from finishing our bathroom the saw stopped working. I had no box and obviously used the saw. We went in there and no questions handled our exchange with no judgement. In other locations I have always felt that I have had to prove myself even though the tool has been in their face not working. Last their 11% rebate sale is the bomb!!!! read more

This store is just way too large and there are not enough salespeople walking around to help us clueless women! I came here looking for a replacement door handle for our sliding patio door. Ours is hanging by a tread and anything would do... or maybe not! I was trying to find one of these all over the place that didn't look like the 1970's wood and black striped one my parents had! No such luck! After searching 4 different stores, I have to order one! Menards reminds me of a old style Kmart or even Zayre- remember Zayre (spell?). I'm done with this chain. I can no longer subsidize the greed of John Menard. This guy is worth over 8 BIllion dollars and has clearly gotten there by underpaying and mistreating his employees, ignoring environmental and labor laws, and then gouging customers with rebate forms he knows most won't mail in. Enough. The final straw came today when renting a truck to carry some plywood. Notwithstanding the $18.95 price written on their trucks, Menards now charges a mandatory, non-refundable $4.75 fuel surcharge and a refundable $50 deposit on top of the $18.95. $18.95 + $4.75 + tax on both the fuel and rental brings the actual price to $25.20. Other are at $20 with tax. You have my CC, so why the deposit? That's just nonsense. Worse, they illegally charge tax on it. Yes you get it back with the tax, but why bother at all when renting a dirty beat up pickup with 50k miles on it and requiring my insurance card? The fuel surcharge is pure greed. You are only allowed the truck for 75 minutes so using up $4.75 in gas in that time is a real challenge given how local the truck use is likely to be. Since the employees check in/out the truck anyway, how hard is it to monitor fuel? This time the employee walked my around the truck pointing out the countless dings, scratches and cracks that Menards certainly got insurance settlements for, but never fixed. The manager told me this charge started in Dec 2016 after "issues" occurred at other stores. Sure... I will now move all my business to the other 2 big box stores that are literally down the street from Menards. Life's too short to support nonsense and greed. read more

I love this store. But quite disappointed that I went on a Saturday 5/2/2020 to buy dog food. I just wish they had better guidelines on customers coming in about social distancing. I wanted to be in & out but the amount of people that were in there made it seem impossible to be out in 10 mins after picking up dog food. I wish they'd only let perhaps 40 people at a time as others don't respect social distancing. I don't wanna be a "Karen" but when I went over there, I imagine there were about 200 people in. This is the WORST menards by far. I come here almost 1-2 times A DAY. I just tried calling them for over 30 min to have them not pick up their phones. Their open mind me say, and this is not the first time these lazy people want to do nothing to help a customer. EVERY TIME I'm there 1/2 the employees stand at the return desk in the middle away from each end of the counter, away from helping any customers. The same woman lazily works the doors by the register LITERALLY DOING NOTHING, more like pretending that she's doing something. And then like 3 cashiers ACTUALLY working. They are rude, the only ppl I see there smile is a few of the cashiers. Seriously time after time this business has showed absolutely no customer service to myself and people I know. I even talked to an employee who was brought to that store to help set things up just a couple of months ago, and even those employees commented on how much this location is just unorganized and full of lazy ass dumb people. I never had much reason to go into any Menard's (or other home improvement stores for that matter) until recently. This one being the closest to home, I've already been there at least five times in the last month alone. I had to come here to get a shovel, dirt, and a light bulb. I kind of balked at the thought of running around the store looking for the items, but oddly, everything I needed was near the entrance. I also got to knock another stop off my list, because I also was able to purchase a toilet bowl brush, toilet paper, bottled water, and a toothbrush holder here as well. Since when did the hardware store start selling stuff like that? Not that I'm complaining, one stop less makes me all the happier.
