Been coming here multiple times. Always friendly assistance and willing to go the extra step to assist with any question you have. Good selection of various brands and items. If they don't have it another Whitmore location may have it and staff will look it up. Price points may be higher, but in my case some items were on discount below there retail price. :-) read more

This is a typical Ace Hardware store ... and we mean that in a good way. It carries a broad selection of items, and many tailored to what the neighborhood needs. Ace stores are small enough to be able to tailor their stock somewhat ... for example, our neighborhood was built by a developer who used Zoeller sump pumps. So, what does our local Ace carry ... Zoeller. The big box store may or may not have that brand because they have huge national purchasing programs where oftentimes price rules the choice. While you can save a nickel or two at the big box stores like Home Depot and Lowes, when you really need a particular item or service you will often find it at the Ace ... and isn't that their ditty "Ace is the Place"? Besides carrying the usual hardware items, the Whitmore Ace will repair and tune up your Stihl power equipment, R&R your patio screens, and perform other similar services that you could not have done at the big boxes. I also try to save every time I can, but when I need something a bit more special ... Ace is where I'll end up. read more

They used to be better, but ever since the new owner took over and focuses on that little gift shop they put in, the customer service has been bottom of the barrel. They used to have plenty of staff, happy and checking in on you to help every time I came in. But now it's just horrible, Ace is already not competitive in the hardware store market, we all know that we could get better prices anywhere else. But we come here for the service and the good vibes, I believe the new ownership killed this. I hope they change. read more

This is a decent Ace with a wider selection of things, sort of trying to compete with the big box places a bit. They have the oldskool boxes of nails you can buy by weight, which is nice. I haven't seen that since I last shopped at Brookfield True Value. They also have a nice automotive section with all kinds of v belts, a section with many different kinds of springs, etc. I walked in looking for a 3/8-24 coupling nut. A friendly employee came over to help me and said they wouldn't have it (it is an oddball thread), but he still tried to be helpful and we chatted a bit about alternatives to what I'm attempting which I appreciated. This is somewhat out of the way for me, but I'll probably come back as i don't like shopping at the megastores and this store is easier to navigate. read more

i brought my stihl ms251 to ace in homer glen for repair. i picked it up and asked if they would start it he said yes well 2 guys couldn't start it so they called a big burly sale associate over with a lot of effort he got it started. i paid $60 for the repair im thinking how will i start it i had back surgery 5.5 months ago. read more

I have been coming here at Will Cook Ace for years. Best customer service . Period. Not once did I come home with the incorrect parts for my repairs. Honestly have never returned a part! Never. On occasion I needed to send my son to get a part in the middle of a repair. The store clerk got on the phone and face timed me to trouble shoot my problem. What!Try that at the "too big stores". It dose not mater if I'm getting 1 bolt for my snowblower or getting advice on bird seed. Will Cook takes the time for me. There are a lot of options these days. This morning 6/1/23 I went to pick my patio door screen up, a lady with what looked like a blackeye asked another male employee to take my screen up to register to which he replied if I'm going to multitask, I want multitasking wages he said. I couldn't believe my ears, still grumbling he escorted me to check out and left my screen propped up. Maybe at this juncture I should mention I am disabled and walking is a painful task. I tried to complain to the lady on the register who wasn't interested and provided me with an if looks could kill. My message ACE HARDWEAR. Teach your staff customer service technique's before retiring I was in hotel hospitality management for 35 years and taught a lot of employees how to react in certain situations. As a side note, I asked for the total price for the screen repair, I was told she didn't know, but I would have to pay a 15-dollar deposit which I did. After paying the balance I now know why they will not tell you the repair price. I can honestly say I will never be visiting that store again. read more

This is one of those Ace Hardware stores that's worth the extra 15-20 minutes to get to. They have a wider selection then most Ace stores and the staff here is pretty knowledgeable across the board. They are very friendly, and seem genuine. The work clothing and boot selection is a added plus that many stores don't have. This Ace is definitely the place.... read more

No masks required in Will-Cook Ace, as told to me by the cashier?! No plexiglass between customer and cashier, either. Customers were allowed in without masks. At my visit yesterday, the cashier had his mask down with the unmasked customer before me, put it up when I came up. When I questioned him about it he said mask policy was up to each store. NO ITS NOT, IT'S AN ILLINOIS MANDATE!! The owner/manager must not be concerned about the health of their customers OR employees!! At this point in this pandemic, that is just complete negligence. My visits to Ace are half at this Ace, half at the Lemont Ace. I will not be shopping at Will-Cook Ace again. The Lemont Ace is protecting their customers and employees. read more

THEIR PRICES ARE OUTRAGEOUS, BOUGHT BAGS OF RED MULCH, $ 4.99 each, spent $16.17 due to the inevitable taxes. Needed many other things but, fortunately they did not have these. Came home and went out to MENARD'S, found all the items at an extreme low price. Specially the red mulch same bags $ 2.88 per bag. Needless to say ACE, NEVER AGAIN. NO WONDER HOW ACE IS going out of business and closing so many stores. read more

All I needed was my blades sharpened on my lawn mower. We agreed Thursday would be good for pick up and then I paid. The weather was changing and I wanted to pick up my mower on Wednesday so I called and made my request Wednesday morning. Turns out they had to cut off the top of my screws to get my blades off, appropriately two hours of labor, re-drill holes, sharpened my blades and put them back on. Also, one day earlier then I had agreed. They wouldn't let me pay anymore than I already did and were very professional start to finish. When I dropped off my mower I had run into the owner who seemed to be a "no non-sense guy" and as it turns out that Is exactly how the store is operated. I have shopped at this store on and off over 15 years since we moved out here and we always had a great experience. Thank you and we appreciate your service. read more

As much as I dislike Home Depot, or any big box store, I dislike this particular Ace Hardware more. Higher prices have put me off but one thing bothers me more, and this has come up from others during conversation, I don't like being watched as a potential shoplifter. If I need to speak to someone, more often than not they're tied up with customers. When I can or want to find something on my own, I find I have employees at the opposite end of the aisle peering at me, sometimes around a corner. I do go in and make the occasional purchase but do my best to do my hardware shopping elsewhere. read more

This is by far the best run Hardware store that I have been to. their service and quality is second to none. You know how it is when you have a home project and you go to a store looking fior help. I have shopped this store many times. The people who work there are extremely helpful. Matt is one who helped my husband and I when we had a sump pump issues with setting up the pipes. He was great. The people who posted that they were being "watched" must be paranoid. Never felt that way in the store. Sometimes you just want to browse and they DO want to help you, so I just tell them please let me just be. They remember who you are and are a small local business. This is the last day that I will spend my money in an Ace Hardware ever again! Horrible, Horrible store with absolutely no customer care whatsoever! I brought in a set of keys that were on my key ring(4) and was asked to take them off the ring so that they can copy them. Johnathan was the sales clerk that took care of us, nice person but I could see that he was a bit flustered with having that many keys at once. I brought out another key in my purse that was on a key ring(this was a smaller key) but he didn't ask to have me take it off. Well I got to the counter to be rung up and I told the girl at counter that I had 5 keys made; she said there were only 4 and not 5. I said where is my other key. This is where the trouble starts; Jonathan was asked to come up to the register and starts to argue with us about how many keys I had. Look, I never took these keys off my key ring until I walked into this store to have them made, never in all the years I had them. I am in the midst of selling my property this is the only key I have to get into my property and now have to hire a Locksmith due to their rude incompetence's! There was a scene at the front because I was getting upset with the situation and even the cashier had remarked by saying that the keys should have never been taken off the ring, that is not their policy; well Jonathan requested me to take them off because there was a rubber colored marker on them and he needed it off. He should of said, "NO'' leave them on the ring, this is our stores policy! What really boils me is that there was an issue at the cashiers counter and that's when their store manager (Dakota) should of asked what was wrong. Nope, that did not happen, my husband said lets leave and see if they work and I really did not feel comfortable leaving the store because I just knew it was in there, probably mixed up with their new keys that they have in their bins. We called because now we are unable to get into our property and asked to speak to the store manager, it was Dakota. We told him the situation and told us to hold on so that he could look, well instead of helping a disgruntled customer he chooses not to come back on the phone after awhile to help us, he chooses to help someone else with a sale! Really, that is un acceptable and poor management skills. He has a lady, Dawn help us and really she out of anyone at that store had compassion at best and I could tell she felt quite uncomfortable with her bosses decision on not handling the situation. That is what Management is for; to deal with issues even if they are tough! Dawn tells us that he will not be calling us back. Really??? Just cannot believe that is how a manager deals with customers. So needless to say, we called corporate to explain what our issues are, they apologize and are sorry to hear about our situation in their stores. They call the Ace Hardware owner, Matt. She tells me that she encourages him to call these unhappy customers(us), because they are now locked out of their property. He was not there, he never spoke with us, has never asked to speak with us, but he says he has spoken with 3 of his employees about this situation and he has decided to back them up! He eludes to corporate that I am mistaken and I lost my key somewhere else. Are we in another universe, really!? I am just flabbergasted on how this store treats their customers, not an apology from higher up, but telling the customer that you are wrong and that you do not have the amount of keys that you have is an unacceptable and poor way to handle an unhappy customer. Don't you think I know how many keys we have to get into our condo? This is absurd, and anyone patronizing this store should be aware of how you will be treated! No one cares about the customers and all it would of taken was, "look we made a mistake, we truly apologize for your situation!" How can I rectify this? Never got it! Times are tough, business has a rough time through this COVID, but you still have to keep the customers that you do have and I clearly do not see where; Matt cares about his business and how his manager is treating his customers. Just deplorable! I am now spending $85.00 for a $2.00 key, just ridiculous! read more

Like most of the other reviewers.... I WILL NOT shop at this ACE ever again. I recently bought a large fixer-upper house in Homer Glen. During the first few months of owning it, I have spent thousands on home repairs and improvements. Some spent at the big boxes like Home Depot and some at this local Ace Hardware. I believe in supporting small businesses like a smaller store like this. BUT... I have REPEATEDLY had bad experiences at this place. It's owners have obviously instituted a wierd rule about treating their customers like shoplifters. I am a 35 year old man who frequented this store weekly for everything from plumbing supplies to hardware supplies. I always felt awkward shopping there but constinued to go there thinking I was helping a local small business. I recently purchased a $6.50 plastic pipe at this location. It was vacuum sealed in plastic and I never opened the packaging. I quickly realized it wasnt the right size for my new bathroom project and returned to this Ace for a refund. I didnt have a reciept so I graciously anticipated a simple in-store credit for the $6 bucks. I was harrassed beyond belief about the location of where the product was purchased and whther I had used an Ace card. They even asked if I stole the item! I repeatedly said "Just give me the in-store credit for the $6 bucks." Eventually the manager had to come over to assist. He also accused me of stealing the item. I said "give me the $6 store credit or lose me as a cusotmer forever". They lost me. I hope they enjoy the $6 bucks. I will never spend a penny there again. read more

When my companion is working on his motorcycle he is bound to stop in here for some kind of part or tool. The staff has definitely grown to recognize us and his project. The people who work here are friendly and very personable. I usually wander the aisles and always find something to entertain myself with like smelling candles or checking out paint samples. The store is smaller then home depot or menards which means it's easier to find things and I don't get lost as easily. I think that a lot of girls could think of a dozen of other things they would rather do then follow their companion into a hardware store but if it's this Ace I really don't mind much at all. read more

Time and again I go to Menards, or even worse, Home Depot to find something simple for a DIY project and neither one has what I need. Even more frustrating is trying to find someone to help find what you need. I always end up at Ace because they always have what I need and they are most helpful and knowledgeable too. I believe I have just experienced the worst retail encounter of my life at the Homer Glen Ace at the hands of Matt the manager of the store which I have since learned is the owner's son, which explains a lot. In any other store he would not be a manager. I purchased a remote with a staff member I trusted for a cost of $245, and made an appointment for it to be programmed by the same staff member. When I arrived for my appointment Matt sent the employee on lunch, even knowing I had an appointment. He advised that any employee could handle the programming. But that wasn't true, it was unsuccessfully programmed and Matt wouldn't help so at the end of the day I returned it the remote. My message to all if Matt is im the store don't do business with the Ace on Will Cook road. It doesn't live up to Ace's reputable as the "Helpful Hardware Man". So sad! read more

Have a problem? This Ace has the answer! Just got off the phone with Scott about a mold problem on my garage floor and found that I already had the product that he recommended. He told me how to use it, specifically for the mold, and could not have been more helpful. I go to this Ace regularly and often. Their staff is unbelievably knowledgeable. The place is always clean. PLUS - I don't have to walk 1/2 mile to the back of a big-box store to find they don't have what I want, then back 1/2 mile to leave, and then find my car in a packed parking lot. It saves me loads of time to run up to this Ace for whatever I need. This Ace reminds me of the old-fashioned type of helpful (yes, their advertisement is correct), neighborhood hardware store my dad used to go to. read more

This afternoon I was coming into Will Cook Ace to pick up salt and a shovel for the snow we had. I was greeted by and made my way to the aisle. As I was coming to purchase my items, I overheard a man, who I assume is the manager screaming at an employee. He said "shut the hell up" and "shut up I'm done with you". After that was said the man running the cash register stormed off. I like this Ace and support them with the road construction, but harassing an employee is not the best solution, especially in front of customers. This incident left me with a foul taste. If they continue to treat people poorly they will lose loyal customers like myself. I'll take my business to the big box stores where everyone is treated respectfully. read more

This store is great to come to for a variety of necessities. I have used almost every option they offer such as re-screening my window screens, the carpet cleaner rental, the re-fill on propane and miscellaneous tool purchases. They even have a staff that knows what a 'sickle' is and stock them in the store.....Home Depot had no idea what I was talking about. As far as feeling watched, no, I don't agree with the other poster. As a female, I like being greeted at the door, then escorted to the section I need and helped. They're just helpful and that's why I go back. Pricy yes, but at $4.00 a gallon of gas, why drive further....?.??? read more

Be careful when buying paint from this location. I picked up 2 gallons of paint on my way home from work for my husband and they sold me the most expensive one they had. I had no idea until I came home that they had taken advantage of me. I have had good luck with other ace stores, but would not recommend this location. read more

My family and I have been shopping at Ace Will Cook Hardware for years. We are truly - "learn as we go homeowners," and the staff at Ace always gives us the time to listen to our current "homeowner challenge," and offer well thought out solutions showing us what we need to tackle that challenge. They go the extra mile, and once again as I walked out yesterday after receiving above and beyond service, I was saying to myself "I'm so glad this store is here!" It's been my experience to consistently find plenty of knowledgeable staff to give personalized, quick service from the minute you walk in, to the minute you check out. Yesterday's challenge was an ottoman that needed adjustments, and I didn't know how or if they were possible.
