    Cinnamon Rolls, pecan tart

I was craving some sweets after dinner so I went to Leli's ! I've always walked by this place and wanted to try their desserts and it didn't disappoint!!! I love pecan pie and it was the right chewiness and sweetness I was hoping for! Also the cinnamon role was balanced so well that each bite had the perfect amount of cinnamon, icing, and the roll. I know I took a while to decide what to order but they were very helpful and nice to guide me through their big selection of desserts! Very clean inside and it has some seatings.

It's hard to find gluten-free sweets/pastries in Astoria, but this place is a gem! They have both sweet and savory options. I tried a varieties of cookies and pastries. Really enjoyed their gluten-free almond sliced cake and delish leek pie .The friendly guy/staff also mentioned they make gf cakes and can customize, I will def be trying this soon. I took a pic of what was left over--should've snapped one before I devoured everything! Also liked the cool deco art frames they had. Keywords: Gluten Free, Celiac

    Thawed pastizzi
    Ana B.

From my young age of nine years old to fourteen I lived on the island of Malta. My most favorite Maltese food was pastizzi. These could be found anywhere, I had them, on my way to school, on my way home from school, any time the stores were open for business. The pastizzi were super cheap, they were Lm .25 which was equivalent to less than 75 cents each. Of course, this was before many inflations and before the Euro had taken over. Pastizzi were sort of similar to your tastiest, flakiest croissants. They were stuffed with ricotta. Other varieties were also available, but the ricotta were my favorite. The reason I'm sharing all of this is because in Astoria, New York there's a bakery that sells these very pastizzi that I was hoping would take me back those glory days. Leli's Bakery used to be owned by a Maltese baker. It is now owned by an Egyptian man. As I walked inside the little neighborhood bakery, there wasn't that familiar, freshly baked smell. They had a million cookies and pastries behind the glass. But honestly, none of them looked like something I'd enjoy. I asked the lady behind the counter if she had any pastizzi, she said she did but they were frozen. Ok, this is not ideal, but I did drive all this way. I asked for a dozen. She pushed some keys on the register and said "$53.00!" Ummm, excuse me are you ok? $4.25 each! I could afford a million of them at 9 years old. But now, not so much. Instead I got six. This was $27.00. I couldn't have them until the next day because they were frozen solid. The next morning, I popped them on some parchment paper and in the oven for 15 minutes. They were very stuffed with ricotta. The flaky pastry was minimal. These were ok, they were not that crispy golden color I remember. Also, a lot of waiting to bite into one, I'm not going to say too much cheese, but it was not proportionate. Inflation is real, but they could offer a small discount after you purchase so many. I'll just have to travel to Malta to have the real pastizzi.

    Tres leches
    Brianna T.

so it's a small bakery with many options!! I ordered the tres leches for my birthday because it's my favorite after red velvet. This tres leches is made slightly different with a sugary layer on top almost like a creme brûlée. It was different but it was good, very sweet so be aware. The cake itself was soft and moist I was able to enjoy it without the sugar layer on top. I would have liked a whipped cream on top instead maybe. Service was good, no complaints there.

    Pistachio croissant
    Diane L.

Pastries look good, but expensive for me at $4.50 a croissant. They have a lot of variety and cute indoor seating space. Service was nice and location right on 30th Ave, but croissant was a little dense for my taste.

LELI's authentic, aromatic fresh from the oven on site baked goods are so tempting you'll want to try everyone of them. I saw a cluster of mother's w babies oogling and gurgling at a table nearby - a darling in love couple smiling away at the outside table and a family looking for " con leche "- there it was !!! Perfect charm and quality treats from specialty PASTIZZI, Greek BAKLAVA, scones, cinnamon buns, 20 + variety of cookies for an afternoon soirée or birthday party. ( Ask Ulvi and gracious Gerina to plan an unforgettable event for you ) In addition Yana can scoop you handmade GELATO in 8 + flavours! and FLOWER BLOSSOM CUPCAKES made to order ( looks like they came straight fresh from the garden ) You can tell these desserts are lovingly infused with the best ingredients just like the film Like Water for Chocolate - such a delight is LELI's with artisanal baked goods. These new owners are an asset to this Astoria neighborhood. . Perfect charm and quality treats for an afternoon soirée or birthday party. Ask Ulvi and gracious Gerina to plan an unforgettable event for you - Everyone in this moment needs a bit of JOY and sweetness and this is the place to get it- stars!

Stopped by here since I was in the neighborhood and it definitely did not have the amount of things I had seen posted in previous reviews. Apparently they are under new ownership. The girl at the counter was very nice, pleasant, and delivered my stuff to the table. However, she only had limited knowledge about some of the pastries. She informed me that it had "cheese" inside but did not explain much more past that. With that said, all the items I did try (cappuccino, biscotti, apple turnover, and a chocolate pastry) were all very tasty. I would definitely visit again, but it was not enough to make me a regular.

    Baklava and assorted cookies!
    Carl R.

Hello old school. Hello passionate owner. Hello hospitality. The house made products screamed fresh and flavorful. The variety was insane. Cookies, cakes, baklava and gelato and many other items in between. It's a destination, for sure. And after spending some time with a hot tea and conversation with the owner we walked out not only satisfied but filled with joy and appreciation for this independent small business. Reminded how important it is to support businesses like this one. Thanks for a great memory!!

    Mini filled croissant

Enjoyed the items tried here, although just a couple. The mini filled croissants were perfectly done. The pastizzi were ok, they are only sold frozen so can't hold the end result against them--I may have over baked it. Definitely worth trying. Service was ok.

    Inside the 7-layer cake
    Al H.

Was in the neighborhood, so found this bakery doing a Yelp search for 7-layer cake. Was a little disappointed that they did not sell cakes by the slice, but decided to treat myself after doing without a 7 layer for years. A smaller version of the cake was $28, with a larger option available. I asked to use the restroom, and was told it was "in use". Then shortly thereafter I saw someone enter it, although a conspicuous "out of order" sign was posted on the door. Now, I have lived in New York my entire life, and spent a lot of time living in Queens. I never experienced anything like that. I got the cake home, and as you can see, it is a sight to behold, with a lot of attention to detail. There was a smidgen of whipped cream beneath the cake, on the shiny gold colored cardboard platter to prevent the cake from sticking to it. What was unique about it were the buttercream florets on top and the thinly sliced almonds adorning the side of the round cake. To me, the way it tastes is most important. As I said, I grew up in New York, so I have expectations of how I like my cake. In most bakeries I have seen, 7 layer cakes are traditionally rectangular, like a loaf, and typically unadorned with a simple semigloss chocolate coating. This version had layers that made the overall height tallish and a lighter cake. I am used to a thinner and denser cake. The top and bottom layers had an unexpected berry ( I believe raspberry ) jam thinly spread in addition to the internal frosting layers. Well, call me old fashioned, but I know what I like, and if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Cheesecake and chocolate covered pecan wedge
    Austin K.

My girlfriend got an assortment of desserts to try, and they were mostly mediocre or straight up not good. Chocolate mousse cake: the best of the bunch that I might actually get again. There was an espresso or alcohol taste to it that made it interesting. Carrot cake itself was good, but the frosting was not cream cheese based. It was overly sweet, almost like marshmallows, and it did not go well with the cake. Pecan pie: I've had the pecan wedges here which were great but this was disappointing. There was barely any filling in this so it just felt like pecans and crust. Fruit tart: I thought there wasn't a fruit tart I didn't like but the custard and crust were relatively flavorless.

This place is amazing! Such friendly vibes and treated so incredibly well. The Gelato is amazing!! We sat at a table and were brought water?! In this economy unless you're dining in you will not get water. Such generous hearts and a great atmosphere.

    Rainbow cookies
    Tracy S.

Truly a great experience having desserts here and a place to sit! The baker/owner is super nice and there's so many options to choose from! I really enjoy the rainbow cookies and cafe au lait and my friends got the almond cake and said the condensed milk a lot. We also got the tiramisu and it's different from other types but the way make it more firm and not wet really works for the texture! Their cinnamon roll looks really good and we will have to come back to try them all next time. They are also open later than most bakeries in the area so it was nice to have seating, sweet desserts and be able to catch up with friends. All treats are homemade and baked that day!

Himalayan rice set ($20.5)- this was a very nice assortment- there was rice, lentil dal, your protein of choice- (I chose beef brisket), stir fried cabbage, broccoli rabe, pickled vegetables and crisp flatbread. The only downside in my opinion was that the brisket wasn't too tender and I didn't love the beef flavoring or preparation. The rest of the items were so delicious! It can be a little confusing to find since it's a stand inside the market, not a separate store front. They carry a pretty wide variety of Asian flavor-inspired breads, pastries, cakes and cookies, including buns and some more dessert-type items. I checked out Progreso for an event this past weekend and ended up buying a few items to go: - matcha marble sponge cake $4.49: was fluffy, light and moist, good flavor of matcha and a light schmear of whipped cream in the middle. Would get this again! - taro cream puff $6.50: this was taro paste (? not sure if that's fully accurate though it felt more consistency of soft whipped taro than a traditional pastry cream) with whipped cream on top sandwiched by what I believe was choux pastry with craquelin. I think maybe because the this was sitting chilled/refrigerated for a while the top craquelin layer wasn't quite crispy anymore, though it looked nice. Personally it was a bit too much regular whipped cream, would've preferred more of a taro pastry cream. - mango pudding with fresh mango $6.50 mango flavor in the pudding was light though it was a nice tease of flavor. The texture was on the firmer side for puddings. The mangos were a bit oxidized though tasted ok, maybe glaze them or do something to maintain the color? Since this is a pretty new spot hope they could make a few improvements and blow it out of the park! I appreciated the owners' enthusiasm for sharing about their shop.

Food-wise, everything impressed us. I ordered the pistachio croissant, while my companions got the gochujang hot chicken sandwich and the breakfast sandwich. The chicken sandwich was especially memorable--unique, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. My pistachio croissant was also great; personally, I might have preferred a little less pistachio cream or a more textured filling like almond paste, but that's purely a preference. It was still excellent. The service really stood out. They were quick, friendly, and incredibly accommodating--one of my companions accidentally dropped their sandwich, and the staff replaced it free of charge without hesitation. That kind of kindness goes a long way. The price point is amazing for the quality of food you're getting, and we felt completely comfortable lingering for several hours. There was only one person at the front and it seemed she was also managing the serving part so it did get pretty hectic at some point. We decided to order the Budae Jigae (Hot Pot), there is no way to alter the spicy level so for those who love spicy spicy, this is for you. Me and my friend was really disturbed by the fact that we were treated some type of way. Maybe it's because we weren't Korean or? Service was slow asf. Ambiance: Not much but just a storefront + 2 small tables/chairs along with a bench. Restroom: None, you're out of luck! Service: Fast & attentive staff all the time even during their busiest hours. Everyone was just so genuine and friendly to be around. Came here to the Astoria location during their 11th year anniversary promotion yesterday. First 100 customers in line would receive a limited-edition sippy glass tumbler with attached boba straw & removable lid cover with his/her in-store purchase. They accept both cash and debit/credit card. The line was effectively managed with no line cutters, no arguing, and nothing crazy going on. Overall, it was such a pleasant experience. Lots of people have still showed up despite the really cold weather & down-pouring. Nothing gonna stop me from getting the cute glassware. Store opened and promotion started at 12:05pm. Everyone just ordered one by one towards the front when it was his/her turn. The Vietnamese Cloud Coffee was $7.52 (after tax). Hot/iced + medium/large drinks have different set of prices btw. Staff then handed me the glassware & a free sampler bowl of their soon-to-launch either lemongrass chicken/pork rice bowl after accepting payment. Portion was definitely more on the generous side to say the least. Devoured the sampler bowl in 15 mins because I was hungry & aside from keeping the rain not getting into the food. Flavorful lemongrass chicken + appetizing pickled carrot + fresh, crunchy sliced cucumber laid on a blanket of fluffy white rice. All the ingredients went well together. This is something I would definitely buy for lunch/dinner if this item ever gets added to the menu in the future. I ordered a hot Vietnamese Cloud Coffee, a new drink on the menu. My first time actually ordering a hot drink from Tea & Milk. Usually go for the iced drinks but I was feeling quite cold. So, I needed something hot to hold in my hands. Vietnamese Cloud Coffee - Cà Phê Trứng (Egg Coffee) is made with egg yolks + Vietnamese coffee powder. Lastly, it's lightly sweetened with condensed milk to give off an all-around creamy texture and taste similar to tiramisu. Something created with such simple ingredients yet could feel so soothing at the same time. A hot coffee-based drink on a cold, rainy day is like a snuggly hug. Staff called out your name when it was ready for pickup. Love starting my day off with the strong flavor of Vietnamese coffee! By far, this might actually be the best tasting Vietnamese coffee I have had in all my years. And, I'm usually not a coffee person either. Didn't taste watered down and/or heavily sweetened at all. Everything's just right. Definitely would be going back next time for other coffee/fruit tea drinks.

First time trying tea and milk. I ordered the iced ceremonial strawberry matcha tea latte with oat…read moremilk. The strawberry puree adds a kick to the matcha. Different than the one that I have tried! I did not have to wait long to get my drinks after ordering which is always a plus!
