The task was to find a BnB for next years big family wedding. We had plans to rent every room of this lodge and then we arrived. I've read the "other" reviews and decided to add photo's The driveway is a pot hole filled road. The trick is to swerve side to side to avoid the potholes, or you'll bottom out your car. The yard is, well . . . There's tools, barrels, an old truck and a camper and a "garden". . that's the front yard. The back is no different. There's junk laying around, stacks of skids, lumber and a skidsteer. The front steps are poorly done. They are different heights and they pitch to the left. Two night in a row we had to use our cell phone to get to the front door because both outsoor lights were out. We met the man of the lodge and he gave us the nickle tour and i qoute "Here's the kitchen, and the table . .and they'll be muffins, granola an "shit"" That was a big red flag for me. I noticed the bear traps by the fire place and asked about those. That's when he said the fireplace doesn't work and I looked at the scorched stones and the yellow post-it note that merely says "Sorry, out of order" Built in 2010 the fireplace was probably built incorrectly and created a fire. What's a "Lodge" without a fireplace. The rooms are cold and I noticed all the vents were closed, despite opening the vents, there was no heat coming through. We found an electric heater in the closet that produced minimal heat. We were lucky enough to have a relative who had an extra heater to lend us. I'm guessing the review I read, was referring to the single ply toilet paper in the bathroom, as "environmentally safe?" There is no fridge, microwave or coffee maker in your room. But you can use "their" fridge but there's a page of strict rules. One set of rules for "Room guests" and one set for "Lodge Guests?" I have no idea, what the difference is? Don't expect a breakfast that'll warm you up but there is packaged instant oatmeal, a bowl of hardboiled cold eggs, coffee cake and cold cereal. Tacky art fills the room so if you have a wife, mother or girlfriend, you might be embarrassed. The steps going to the 2nd floor are extremely steep, there's 14 steps; not your typical 13 and it's covered in loose carpet. The steps are extremely steep and a heel catcher. There's railings on BOTH sides. The yard looks like a "project in process" be it the front yard or the back. Nothing ever seems to be picked up. Our bathroom was cold and there was a glass containing little soaps and EAR PLUGS?? That didnt make sense at first, then we listened to the guy in the next room snore all night and then shower in the morning. . .kinda gross in my opinion. I don't need to hear his toilet flush. Remember, if I can hear them, they can hear us. We were the only guests that booked for 4 nights that week and not once, did any of the owners ask if we needed any fresh towels or toilet paper - nothing. Never said one word to us. We felt it was a "Shut up and pay up" kind of place. Our last morning, we were in the main room looking at the river when this lady approached. She was wearing sweatpants, sweatshirt and a knit hat, obviouly just crawled out of bed. She asked "Are you the people in room 4?" That's how much they cared about their 4-day guests. She had no clue who we were or our names. My wife said "yes" and the lady turned around and without saying a word, she walked away. No "Thank you for staying with us" Not one word. You can decide for yourself but like they say: "You don't know, until you know!" and now that we know. . . This place is a NO!!! read more

I cannot say enough about this fabulous lodge. First of all, it is really beautiful inside and very clean. My room, #3, overlooked the river. If you want peace and rest, this is the place. My room was minimalistic but very accommodating. To me this was the utimate fishing lodge. Our breakfasts consisted of wonderful cakes, homemade granola, yogurt, fruit, home grown eggs, fresh coffee, tea and assortments of breads and bagels. I hated to leave after 4 glorious days. Hope I can return again soon. read more

Very pretty setting. The lodge was rustic and beautiful. Not good as a place to stay on a business trip. I knew I was in trouble when one of the first things I see are a pair of ear plugs, which I definitely needed since the people in the room below me snored terrible and I could definitely hear them. I couldn't get a hair dryer to save my life. Not fun when you have a plant full of visiting customers and you have the wet look hair style. Was not impressed with the artwork of scantily dressed women. Not my thing at all in a rustic lodge. Absolutely a place designed for men. read more

Beautiful location right along the Farmington River. The house itself is gorgeous and inviting. The rooms are clean and the beds are very comfortable. The hosts are accommodating, environmentally conscience, and provide the rooms with environmentally safe toiletries. The views are incredible from every room I have stayed in there through the years. In the common areas I have met other travelers from around the world. It was a beautiful experience. The breakfast provided had a lot of different foods to choose from, and was very delicious, especially the fresh eggs that came from the owners own chickens I met roaming freely in the backyard. I love this place and highly recommend it to everyone. read more

e rented out the whole place for a wedding. The wi-fi didn't work, and no measures were taken to correct it. The building is nice. that's the only nice thing I can say. The shocking, unbelievable part of our stay, was that we were ignoring the wi-fi, ignoring the rude woman that was watching us through the window at one point. Check-out at 11, and at 9:30 we were sitting having a nice time with coffee and some breakfast. We were actually talking about what was nice about it. Then, the woman came in, began slamming cupboards, taking dishes and food away from us, clearly angry and trying in every way she could to make us feel bad. Even the children! So bizarre!! Someone asked if there was more coffee, or should we make another pot? The woman YELLED. Literally yelled in shock, at 9:45 in the morning, that someone would want more coffee. We asked why she was so mad at us, and she hissed about how hard it is to get ready for the next guests. We told her we would have helped clean, and could we have some instant oatmeal or something left for a few more minutes for the family members that weren't yet awake. Nope. She tried to make sure we were aware that she didn't like us. Remarkable. Aggressive. Confusing. After a gorgeous wedding, all we talked about the following day was the perplexing lack of common courtesy. Baffling. If you want a bed, and don't mind getting in trouble for not pleasing her, this is your place. Just don't make any missteps, or you'll be punished. read more

My husband took me here for 1 night for celebrations. I was hesitant when we got here but then when we went inside I was overwhelmed with beauty and coziness. The shared space is a kitchen(chef worthy), huge living room, beautiful deck, outside backyard with the river right there. The river we were told had a black bear 400 feet downstream. We saw an egret and two herons in the beautiful river. A couple of gentlemen fly fishing. So so peaceful. Our room was just perfect. Huge, comfortable bed, fireplace, our own deck, beautiful claw foot tub, and a shower from heaven. I was worried about people in the house with us (hearing them, Ect)but I did not hear anyone the whole stay there. It was amazing stay. I highly highly recommend this place if in the area. To top this place off they have breakfast in the morning from there great chickens roaming the yard! read more

Perfect perfect perfect. Sal and Erin were incredible hosts, who both welcoming and hospitable. I came here with two friends for a weekend of fly fishing and was not disappointed. Sal's knowledge of the river, fish, bugs, and technique were what led to such a productive fishing experience. He went above and beyond to ensure our fishing was successful. I've been on dozens of fishing trips but never one where our hosts would stop what they were doing and tie a different fly for you if needed. Plus you can walk out the door and be on the fish in seconds! Don't pass this place up, it's a gem. read more

My parents recently stayed for a night to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. Beautiful grounds and house, very warm and cozy environment. The house was decked out in the style of a fishing/hunting lodge and gave the feel of being in the backwoods (which you pretty much are). My family loves that style. They loved seeing the chickens outside and being so close to the river. My mom loves to garden, and the garden out front was lovely for her to see. All the fine details from the Welcome sign at the door with their last name and room number, to the notes around the house with details relating to use of the house were very helpful to them, they felt self-sufficient and didn't have questions related to their stay. Additionally, the owners offer gorgeous homemade flower bouquets for an addition small charge. We ordered and paid for a small... but they went ahead and delivered a large because they said it was such a special occasion. Such an immensely kind gesture. Any questions I had were answered by the attentive owners. Very nice people. My family recommends to stay at this lodge and we will be using them again. read more

My husband and I came here for our 15th wedding anniversary after dinner at nearby Millwright's. We were reminded of the lodge we stayed at in Washington state on our honeymoon. Even with the cold weather in December, the lodge and the views of the river and forest were beautiful. My husband hates bed and breakfasts but he loved this lodge. We hope to return for a longer visit and some fly fishing lessons. read more

My fifth stay here, and it was another great one. Hosts have become like good friends. Room was clean and beautiful. It is a very peaceful area, with with many vegetables growing, rabbits, chickens and two very friendly dogs (they're not permitted in the guest area, if you have allergies). I jokingly call the place "Eden." I love staying at Legends. read more
