The tree canopy alone is worth the price, like someone pasted a pocket of Idaho or Western Montana over this campground. There are no hookups of any kind at your site, but the dump station is a short drive outside the campground gates, fire wood can be purchased at the ranger station, and many sites are right on the Farmington River. Behind sites 3 and 22 are paths to the water, so bring waders if you've got them. No waders? There's plenty of scenery to enjoy instead: I watched fish bob, ducks dive for breakfast, herons swoop (yup, two at one time), and a river otter glide down the river, all within about 10 minutes. You're camping in bear country here so consider bringing bear horns/spray, as bear scat was on the well-marked, well-maintained trails in neighboring People's Forest just across the river. Please don't spend vesper hours letting kids playing with the bear horn since it'll just let bears get used to its sound and annoy neighbors, but if you don't play guitar let the kids have the tablet instead. The recycling and garbage bins on site have bear deterrents. Bears aside, the camp bathrooms aren't as pristine as the KoA, but they do have free hot showers, and presently, hand sanitizer and social distancing reminders. Bring flip flops for your shower and enjoy feeling human again. Speaking of human, people in each of the two campground loops seemed to respect quiet hours overall, and the one-way loops are great for family biking. Book early, relax, sneak out for hiking or ice cream in postcard-worthy Riverton, and enjoy, enjoy, enjoy.

Cabins are new and fairly spacious, with bathroom facilities and clean water points provided in close proximity to all campsites. Shout out to Addison on staff for his professionalism and care, we felt like he tried to make sure we got the best experience possible with tips about wildlife and an overall positive attitude that impacted both of our group stays this year. This review is from the perspective of visiting someone who rented an RV space here. I had no…read moreinteraction with staff. Guests park by the entrance, before the gate. The automated gate reads your car tag and knows to open for guests w/o needing a code or card to enter. This RV park does offer a small tent area with a bath house close by, although the tent site was empty at the time of our visit. It does appear each site offers a picnic table, as do the RV sites. The RV sites are all 'back in' style, no 'pull thru' sites. There is just enough space between rigs to park your 450. The rig backed up to tree trunks, providing some shade to the site, while not allowing this toy hauler to open it's back deck. There is a small space behind the truck for the picnic table and a few folding chairs. The roads here are dirt throughout, including the sites and on this dry summer day a good bit of dust was kicked up every time a vehicle drove by. My hosts mentioned the 5mph speed limit is easily kept because the rutted roads keep you moving slow. There is a small pool to enjoy with family that is entirely enclosed in a high chain link fence. A bath house is located right next to the pool, outside the fenced area. There is also a large, covered pavillion by the office with picnic tables. My hosts tell me the park offers family fun events on weekends in this area. We walked the grounds and see they offer seasonal spots grouped together in a shady area off to one side of the park. Folks have really set up outdoor living spaces in this area. We even saw a shed on one site. There are a good amount of trees at the edges of the short term RV area offering partial shade so many of the sites. A few are full sun. The park is seasonal. Facilities are well maintained (pool, bath house, picnic pavillion). Dumpsters are available for guest use across from the office. My SO looked at renting a cabin here to spend more time visiting with our hosts. The cabins he saw on their website do not offer bathrooms en suite which for him was a non-starter. My partner and I reserved a tent site with just water access. It was beautiful, right on the pond and the perfect size for two people. The site was raked out before (an absolutely amazing, unexpected bonus). It came furnished with a a picnic table and a dug out area for a fire. It additionally had a private path down to the pond and a rock to sit on and watch the wildlife. You could hear giant frogs croaking all evening and in the morning Canada geese even ran through the middle of our site! We had a raccoon visit in the middle of the night as well, so the area is full of wildlife and nature. We were very close to the bathroom (which are cleaned twice a day and wonderful). We also arrive late, around 5:45, and we're worried we'd be locked out. Though the camp store/check in area was closed, they taped our preregistration info to the door, with a map and all the campground rules. The staff workers were super pleasant and courteous. Outstanding customer service. There are only two critiques that I have: Each site seems to be very close together, I was glad to be there during a slower time as I do not believe there would have been much​ privacy otherwise. The second critique is how loud the camp staff transportation is. The golf carts are very loud especially when the sound travels so well across the ponds. We didn't take advantage of the pool, fishing, paddle boats, R/C Race car track, laser tag, mini golf, or any of the scheduled programs. But based on the rest of our experiences, I'm certain they're top notch. Ultimately, highly recommend this campground!

Prices went so high and now resort fees are being charged, I understand prices go up but I also believe improvements and upgrades are needed to show the increase, nothing has been done, other than pushing away seasonal and yearly clients. Been camping here since my kids were little about 15 yrs, started cabin then tent then pop up and TT now with grandkids. Loved this place unless things improve and the manager learns to interact with clients we might come back. Many other issues with a "sec guard" that is seasonal. We miss Greg.

We stuck mostly to our site for the two nights we were here. There is a pool, it's small but decent on site although next to the busy road. There is a rec hall but doesn't have much to offer except for a Ping pong table, an old piano and some table and chairs. It's pretty outdated and run down as are the bathrooms although clean and plenty of hot water. The store on site in the office has a few things on the shelf but shouldn't rely on getting things there. There is a country store few miles down the road, Katie's which has everything, butcher shop, beer, wine, fresh baked pies and pretty much anything you can think of. The outhouse/ports potty up in the Maple Hill site area is very clean and was fine to use. CJ who runs the place and lives on site is great and is happy to help if you need something. Overall we loved the site we were on, there were some on Maple Hill that were wooded and secluded as well, H is halfway from office/pool to end so great location. If you are looking for a place to just hang out on your site, enjoy the woods and camping experience without running from activity to activity you find at other resorts and don't need a lot of frilly things then it's a good place for you.

As other reviewers wrote, the area is very no frills. My 2 complaints were 1) the bath House was not open so we used the port-a-johns. They looked like they had not been cleaned out in months. All 4 were vile. 2) there were no signs about rules of the lake. Our children were using tubes and a plastic kayak. After 3 hours of using them by the beach, we were then reprimanded for using these items in the swimming/ ropes off area. Just wish that there was a sign that informed us as to what was and not allowed. Overall, had a wonderful day.

Tolland was voted America's #1 Family Campground in 2009, and with their well-maintained and functional facility, it's easy to see why. Built on a small peninsula of land that juts into the largest recreational body of water in Massachusetts, Tolland boasts excellent swimming, fishing, hiking and boating opportunities, as well as some unique and cool campsites for campers of all ages and skill levels. We came out and reserved 4 sites for a camping-fishing-relaxing bachelor party weekend, and we were all pretty pleased with the results. The staff were friendly and helpful, and stayed out of our way. We were within easy walking distance of bathrooms and sinks for washing dishes, though the shower in our area was broken. I wasn't planning to shower anyway, though. Be warned that the area around Tolland State Forest is not very active. The town of East Otis sports just 1,200 year-round residents, and there are few nearby stores, all of which close around 9. There are, however, a couple of nice general stores, and a gas station that sells organic groceries. If you're inclined to head west on the Pike out of Boston, Tolland is a great spot for a weekend trip, whether you're looking to chill or to get out there and do stuff.

I came here for kayaking. This beautiful, scenic lake is clean, and circling the lake is an enjoyable 9-mile paddle.
