The simplest way to describe our experience is this: we enjoyed it so much that we canceled our hotel reservation for the following weekend and came right back to the Plume House! There is incredible historic charm and character throughout the house--it's warm and inviting everywhere. The rooms are incredibly comfortable, and while the bathrooms have been restored with modern fixtures, they've done an amazing job finding pieces that maintain the historic character of the home, along with making such creative use of the limited spaces. Of course, the cherry on top was spending time with Kay and enjoying her wonderful homemade breakfast specials. It's no wonder the Plume House was named "Best of CT" in both 2025 and 2026. Based on our experience, they're well on their way to a few more! Ron & Kathy

I stumbled along this place online and we were so happy I did! The innkeeper was very gracious and gave great recommendations on local restaurants and activities. It was September/October so we decided we wanted to take a "leaf peeping" drive and so we followed a map and some road signs for magnificent views of the New England fall foliage. We even went over a few covered bridges, that was a first for us! We did wine tastings at local nearby wineries, including Hopkins, which was our favorite. We bought some souvenir wine glasses and a bottle (or three) of wine and enjoyed it at Lake Waramaug -- the most beautiful autumn setting -- not far from home base at Constitution Oak. Bunnell Farm was nearby and they have a great corn maze. You can also stop for fresh produce, pickles and preserves at Freund Farm along the Leaf Peeping route. This B&B is in a great area with lots of local attractions nearby, including historic Litchfield. We stayed in a room upstairs and it was huge! There were 3 beds so we both had our own bed and then some. The bathroom was in the hallway but we were the only guests so it didn't matter. There was a nice dining room with pastries and coffee waiting for us in the morning and a cozy sitting room to unwind.

The task was to find a BnB for next years big family wedding. We had plans to rent every room of…read morethis lodge and then we arrived. I've read the "other" reviews and decided to add photo's The driveway is a pot hole filled road. The trick is to swerve side to side to avoid the potholes, or you'll bottom out your car. The yard is, well . . . There's tools, barrels, an old truck and a camper and a "garden". . that's the front yard. The back is no different. There's junk laying around, stacks of skids, lumber and a skidsteer. The front steps are poorly done. They are different heights and they pitch to the left. Two night in a row we had to use our cell phone to get to the front door because both outsoor lights were out. We met the man of the lodge and he gave us the nickle tour and i qoute "Here's the kitchen, and the table . .and they'll be muffins, granola an "shit"" That was a big red flag for me. I noticed the bear traps by the fire place and asked about those. That's when he said the fireplace doesn't work and I looked at the scorched stones and the yellow post-it note that merely says "Sorry, out of order" Built in 2010 the fireplace was probably built incorrectly and created a fire. What's a "Lodge" without a fireplace. The rooms are cold and I noticed all the vents were closed, despite opening the vents, there was no heat coming through. We found an electric heater in the closet that produced minimal heat. We were lucky enough to have a relative who had an extra heater to lend us. I'm guessing the review I read, was referring to the single ply toilet paper in the bathroom, as "environmentally safe?" There is no fridge, microwave or coffee maker in your room. But you can use "their" fridge but there's a page of strict rules. One set of rules for "Room guests" and one set for "Lodge Guests?" I have no idea, what the difference is? Don't expect a breakfast that'll warm you up but there is packaged instant oatmeal, a bowl of hardboiled cold eggs, coffee cake and cold cereal. Tacky art fills the room so if you have a wife, mother or girlfriend, you might be embarrassed. The steps going to the 2nd floor are extremely steep, there's 14 steps; not your typical 13 and it's covered in loose carpet. The steps are extremely steep and a heel catcher. There's railings on BOTH sides. The yard looks like a "project in process" be it the front yard or the back. Nothing ever seems to be picked up. Our bathroom was cold and there was a glass containing little soaps and EAR PLUGS?? That didnt make sense at first, then we listened to the guy in the next room snore all night and then shower in the morning. . .kinda gross in my opinion. I don't need to hear his toilet flush. Remember, if I can hear them, they can hear us. We were the only guests that booked for 4 nights that week and not once, did any of the owners ask if we needed any fresh towels or toilet paper - nothing. Never said one word to us. We felt it was a "Shut up and pay up" kind of place. Our last morning, we were in the main room looking at the river when this lady approached. She was wearing sweatpants, sweatshirt and a knit hat, obviouly just crawled out of bed. She asked "Are you the people in room 4?" That's how much they cared about their 4-day guests. She had no clue who we were or our names. My wife said "yes" and the lady turned around and without saying a word, she walked away. No "Thank you for staying with us" Not one word. You can decide for yourself but like they say: "You don't know, until you know!" and now that we know. . . This place is a NO!!!

The service was 5 star from the moment we arrived Joe was not only the valet he also answer our first few questions and really represented the farm. The location was beautiful with lush green spaces and large vegetable gardens, unique cottages (for overnight stays) we started by taking a quick walk around - glad we showed up 45 minutes fly for our reservation. We then sat in the tavern and had two well made drinks, my wife loves a good French Martini and they made an excellent one. They the called us to the upstairs dinning room and sat us by the window overlooking the path down through the open space towards the Spa. The sun was setting at the tree tops. We decided to try the 4 course dinner instead of the 3 because all the dishes sounded so good we didn't want to skip any. Anthony took care of us but there were also others making sure we had everything we needed. I added pictures for each. The bread was fresh and tasty, shrimp cocktail and a whole radish with a nice dip, the salad was great with watermelon and plums, the game bird (can't remember the name) was perfectly cooked with fresh figs, the pasta starters were fantastic one with red sauce and sausage the other with a pesto sauce with pine nuts -yum. The main was a filet mignon perfectly cooked medium rare with creamy mashed potatoes and a delicious sauce. Finally the desserts were great, 1 chocolate mousse and one cheese plate.
