I stumbled along this place online and we were so happy I did! The innkeeper was very gracious and gave great recommendations on local restaurants and activities. It was September/October so we decided we wanted to take a "leaf peeping" drive and so we followed a map and some road signs for magnificent views of the New England fall foliage. We even went over a few covered bridges, that was a first for us! We did wine tastings at local nearby wineries, including Hopkins, which was our favorite. We bought some souvenir wine glasses and a bottle (or three) of wine and enjoyed it at Lake Waramaug -- the most beautiful autumn setting -- not far from home base at Constitution Oak. Bunnell Farm was nearby and they have a great corn maze. You can also stop for fresh produce, pickles and preserves at Freund Farm along the Leaf Peeping route. This B&B is in a great area with lots of local attractions nearby, including historic Litchfield. We stayed in a room upstairs and it was huge! There were 3 beds so we both had our own bed and then some. The bathroom was in the hallway but we were the only guests so it didn't matter. There was a nice dining room with pastries and coffee waiting for us in the morning and a cozy sitting room to unwind.

Add in the desserts and the drinks -- lots of specialty beverages. all on the pricey side -- and we were totally satisfied. Not a complaint in the group. Winvian is very private, You can't just stroll in. Reservations are necessary, and you'll need to get buzzed in. New Preston. The Inn had a classic feel. I liked that they had sitting areas and game tables. Our room was comfortable. There were a couple of waters waiting for us. And they had a snack area that we could access and a better than average complimentary breakfast, with an omelet station and Arethusa Milk. The only issue we had was with the water temperature in our sink. It never seemed to get warm. In any event, overall it was a good stay.

The Plume House Inn in Thomaston had great reviews, so we called and made reservations. Owners Kay and Don made us feel right at home. Kay is a marvelous cook, and with Don's beehive out back, her breakfasts were hearty and fresh. Hiking is plentiful, and can also recommend the Hickory Stick Bookshop in Washington.
