While I've…read moretypically driven out to Lockhart to visit friends and, inevitably, devour all that Tx agriculture has to offer, Jim's is easily my new favorite. All of the other places in Austin proper are crawling with tourists (yeah yeah, pot meet kettle) and are packed. Skip the obvious and you'll be rewarded with one of the best meals in town. Getting there: The drive out from the city is plenty fun and takes you over Pennybacker Bridge. Plenty of parking. Ambiance: Picnic tables are plentiful with shade. Or you can head to the bar next door to grab a cold one while you enjoy the juiciest, most tender, melt in your mouth brisket or dry rub ribs. Go for the plate of 2 meat and 2 side options for the full experience. Unsure of what to pick? Brisket, ribs, Mac and cheese, and scalloped potatoes. Your heart might hate you afterward but your tastebuds and stomach won't. I loved it so much I went twice. Hell, I'm sitting in the airport now at six something in the morning drooling wishing I could go back one last time. I might just go change my flight...

Why 3 stars? Because this is a review I really hate to write…read more --- --- --- When I see a 4.9 star rating with nearly 300 reviews, you have my attention. I know that it's pretty much a guarantee that I am going to enjoy my meal, and I'll probably love it. Sadly, this was probably the biggest mismatch of rating:taste I've ever experienced. My friend and I had a lengthy discussion about this in our hotel room. He didn't trust the reviews and said the photos of the BBQ looked very underwhelming. I won the argument, because we ended up visiting, but he won the war because he was right. We ordered our food and then went and sat at the bar so we could enjoy in the A/C. We were chatting with the bartender for a few minutes, and then our plates of food came. I tried the brisket.... not good. I tried the ribs... woof. I tried the pulled pork... yikes. My friend and I were giving each other the eye in between bites, as the employee was only a few feet away from us and talking to the bartender. She eventually asked us how it was. To be honest, I would have probably just said, "good" and moved on, because I hate coming across rudely. But my friend? He cannot tell a lie. He just came out and said we were not into it. She was very nice about it and actually ended up bringing us more ribs. They were significantly better. Pretty good, actually. She also brought us some coleslaw. I wasn't a big fan, but it was appreciated. The brisket had a couple of good fatty bites, but everything else about it was pretty rubbery and not very flavorful. 2-stars. The original ribs were overcooked and tough. 2-stars. The pulled pork was the worst of the bunch. It literally tasted like a wet dog smells. I hate to say that, but I'm just being honest. 1-star. So to be honest, this was a 2-star experience for us. I'm upgrading to 3-stars because the customer service was excellent, and the 2nd round of ribs was a significant upgrade. But as my friend put it, why would they be okay serving us those original ribs when they were obviously not up to quality. What I assume happened here is that the owner or primary pit master was not working when we visited on a Monday at 11am. It's likely the case of a backup being pretty lackadaisical. But it was rough. We did enjoy the ping pong table afterward, I guess?

We stayed at the @hyattplace in Lake Travis/Four Points and chose @bestdambbqjoint to take our group for a celebratory lunch in Texas Hill Country. This joint is the real deal, folks! Nestled on the sprawling oasis that is @planetrockvodka on Lake Travis, Best Dam BBQ is serving up some of the best smokey Texas goodness I've ever had. On top of that, you can enjoy vodka distilled on the property by @planetrockvodka From top to bottom, everything was remarkable, and for good reason. Scott, the property/business owner and Pit-master, could not have been cooler and is absolutely hands-on with his product. His attention and love for what he does most certainly came out in the food! It doesn't hurt that the truck staff could not have been any sweeter. Our group enjoyed a little of everything. Sliced Brisket Sandwiches, Rib Combos, Texas Twinkies, Brisket Quesadillas, Loaded Texas Potatoes, and on and on. The food was truly awesome. But what everyone seem to enjoy the most was just a setting. They was a Calf for the kids to pet, chickens to chance, dogs to play with. Along with swings, a playground, darts, outdoor TVs, and on and on. Just such an awesome place to be. This was a very special visit for our group and I personally was not ready to be so blown away. We could not have picked a better hotel or a more delicious place for lunch. Feeling very grateful and full today. Life is good (Pssst, Scott, I'll see you real soon!)

My friends and I were…read morein town for the holiday and decided to stop by for some local flavor after seeing the live music sign outside. The majority of the property is covered by an expansive patio area, perfect for groups. They have a number of large tables, small tables and even chaise lounge chairs - whatever makes you comfortable! We arrived later in the night just as the live band was wrapping up but there were many of people out back watching the World Cup game. In terms of drinks, I got the skinny rabbit margarita and it was fantastic. It far exceeded my (admittedly, low) expectations. It had a mint accent which was delicious, and combined with a tajin rim, the perfect summer drink. Don't worry, if you don't like mint, they will happily leave it out. My friends got an espresso martini, customized without baileys or dairy, and enjoyed it for a bar that doesn't seem like they would even have espresso martinis. One odd note that I did notice is that the handwashing sink for the restrooms is outside of the restroom and around the corner both inside and outside. At first I thought that they did not have handwashing sinks and was confused but noticed them once I left. Hopefully people remember to do this when they leave!!

Lazy G BBQ Company in Cedar Park is exactly what it sounds like: lazy. For a BBQ joint in Texas,…read morewhere the standard is high, this place is embarrassingly bad. Rudy's BBQ should be the baseline, yet Lazy G doesn't even reach that. I ordered the ribs and brisket, hoping for something decent, but both were far below average. The brisket was especially disappointing--you could see the congealed fat right in the slices (see pictures). Serving meat at the right temperature is BBQ 101, and their failure here made the texture and flavor a cold, greasy mess. The sides weren't any better. The cucumber salad was bland, with just a dusting of dill and no seasoning whatsoever. Adding salt and vinegar should be a no-brainer, but apparently, even the basics were too much effort here. I was excited to try the smoked mushroom side (as a mushroom lover), but it was downright unpleasant. There was zero smokiness, and the sauce tasted like a watered-down BBQ sauce, giving the button mushrooms a soggy, unappetizing texture. The BBQ sauce was another letdown--it tasted like bottled Sweet Baby Ray's. For a BBQ place, using (or at least mimicking) store-bought sauce is the ultimate red flag that they just don't care. Even at $22 for a two-meat plate, the quality doesn't justify the price. In short, Lazy G BBQ Company doesn't just fall short--it doesn't even try. If their goal was to live up to their name, they succeeded; this food is lazy, uninspired, and, frankly, not worth your time or money.

My husband never eats mac and cheese and I'll be darned if he didn't finish my Trashy Mac and Cheese for me that evening! Finally! Some mac and cheese that is actually delicious and creamy. The next morning he said, "I kept telling myself I need to leave a little bit more for Lee Lee but I kept opening it back up and eating more until it was all gone!" Good thing I had my bites right when we arrived at our hotel because I was so hungry. My husband ordered sliced brisket and we lucked out and got a few of the brisket burnt ends. They weren't all "candified" like a lot of the other bbq places serve; but they were smoky and delicious. I also enjoyed the potato salad. We were excited to order the smoked mushrooms but honestly, they could have used a bit more flavor for me. You could just tap the salt shaker and it would have been fine. I appreciated the creative side dish and love how the bbq scene has doubled down on the side hustle! It was cold out so we sat on the enclosed patio that had heaters and were very comfortable. We order a couple of beers and waited for our food. The service was friendly. This was a nice dining experience.
