Absolutely excellent place. Been a dozen times, never disappointed. A martini lover's dream with plenty of excellently crafted items for anyone who prefers otherwise! Food also incredible-- from lobster roll to iberico toast to caviar bumps I could not recommend enough. STRONGLY suggest reserving, at least 2+ weeks in advance! My only complaint is my recent experience with a hostess called Sandy. We were walk ins more than ok with waiting several minutes outside for a party of 2. We saw several larger parties leave, but it was only when this hostess changed shifts with another person who we told we had been waiting as walk-ins as and he said of course there was space... felt as though we were dressed quite nicely she simply didn't want us there... internal staff was accommodating and amazing though. read more

You can stand around by the fireplace or near the bar with your perfect espresso martini (or drink of choice) and listen to the dj play some variation of pop/house music. And when you're done, def get a bacon wrapped hot dog from the street vendor right outside - she takes venmo! read more

Find the left door with door number "1905" under the "Bus stop building" and that's the not so obvious entrance. Neat ain't it? Just blending in with all the muggles (haha jk). Recommend to get a reservation as I saw folks doing walk-ins getting turn down by the gentleman at the door with full capacity. Let the gentleman at the door know you have a reservation, he'll check your ID, and then you're in. Greeted by a stairwell upstairs, v fancy 2nd floor. Wait and seated by the host. Ordered some drinks and wow, the interior design was amazing. Tasteful furniture, wallpapers, decors. Ladies are actually dressed up in cocktail dresses or fancy tops, fancy handbags, high heels - what a change of scenery and how refreshing from all the typical lazy fashion we usually see in SF wearing fannypacks, leggings and some Uniqlo combo. They have a DJ playing, ladies dancing the night away, and just overall a classy place to unwind.. but the atmosphere is loud so be prepared to scream in each others ears cause you won't here each other with your "inside voice". Their menu was shocking... it was packed with treasures in a small place like this. Caviar, oyster, truffle hash browns, A5 wagyu, ribeye, charcuterie - Nothing but exquisite. Drinks were beautifully crafted. Whiskey sour was a classic but the milk punch was so good, definitely give it a try. Extensive spirit and wine list. If you're feeling fancy and want to spurge for a good time, this is the place. The staffs around were nice, checking in a couple of times and refilling our waters. Our table candle was out when we got seated and without a word, the lady came by and light it for us moments later. Cozy old money lounge vibe with love seat tables or couches in the living room area suitable for bigger parties. Gender neutral restrooms available. Personally, it was great to people watch here. Finally!!! A sexy spot in marina! We came here after dinner and it was bumpin'!!! No sign outside. It's the "left door" of the bar Bus Stop. Walk ins are welcome but it's best to make a reservation so you can get a nice table and not stand around. It feels like an extended living from our home. Decor reminds me of the battery. Great DJ that night and the service was fast and friendly! This place is not super big. I think the bar only has 8 bar stools. There's three rooms of seats. This is a best kept secret hiding in plain sight, on the left. (Spoiler alert: it's not the right door...) It's essentially a comfortable, upscale, speakeasy-style bar and lounge with a good variety of small bites to full meals to compliment their extensive drinks menu. The cocktails were exceptional and the sliders and charcuterie were honestly enough for two without needing much more. Service was excellent from seating is a little earlier than our reservation to recommendations and timing courses and drinks beautifully. read more

Bartenders are friendly and experienced. Grown up bar with wall paper and nice lighting. It's trendy for now but not all that special. Lord of the flies situation for bar seating. Just know that if you're a walk-in you will not have a seat in the lounge...or the bar. Lots of folks standing awkwardly in the middle of the room while empty seating was everywhere (for no-show reservations). Weird experience! Plenty of equal or better spots nearby to get a good drink. This is a great addition to the Union st bar scene and a great place for a date night. It's a beautifully decorated, upscale lounge to contrast the dive and sports bars in the area. There is a swanky ambiance with soft music playing at a level where you can hear your own conversation but not those of the people around you in the close intimate seating. You'll be treated to fancy cocktails, all running around $21 and light bites. It's not going to be cheap, but with the effort that they've put into this place, I'd say they can command the price. The charcuterie plate is going to be the best bang for your buck. You can scale the size to serve between 2-6 people and it will compliment whatever drink(s) you choose. The staff is super attentive and very knowledgeable on the entire menu; they can help you find what you're looking for. read more

Appallingly bad experience, which is disappointing since many friends had recommended the bar. Limited food menu, which is fine, but the inconsistency in the servers knowledge of the menu service is shocking. Ordered the Tuna Sashimi Toast, which was brought to us along with a lovely little silver three bowl condiment server containing potato chips, olives and wasabi snack mix. We were standing at the bar and there was a lot of open sofa and lounge chair seating, so we asked to sit in one of the areas until the reservation turned up. The reservation was an hour off, so why the seating couldn't be used until then is absurd. Making a space seem more exclusive is never a good hospitality move. Sat and ordered the same toast, and it arrived without the snack bowls. Requested them, and the server had zero idea what we were referring to. He thought we were referring to a cocktail containing wasabi. We thought we cleared up the disconnect, and were served a small bowl of potato chips and a small bowl of olives. This time, we also received a tiny bowl with sour cream and chives. We requested the wasabi snacks, and that was possible, but a 15 minute wait, and we'd have to return to standing at the bar. Requested the bill instead, and after giving a credit card over to one server, another server returned to request a credit card. A search ensued. The credit card was finally found, with zero explanation of why it had disappeared. And we then discovered we'd been charged for the chips and olives. To top it off, the original female bartender had been far from friendly. SF has an excellent cocktail bar game, so please up the training, because this place will not last long without it. read more

My new favorite San Francisco bar! Love this place....the ambiance is simply amazing. Feels like a contemporary old school living room with a bar. Oxymoronic. The decor feels old and new....great throwbacks to old Hollywood, rich tones and great furnishings. Love the service as well. The entrance feels like a speakeasy....with a an unmarked door. The cocktails are expansive....great wine and beer selections as well. The food choices are excellent...the charcuterie board is fun and inventive. The oysters are great and come with three unique sauces. Chef made hot sauce! We also had the caviar bump,.....so much fun. Felt very welcoming. We will be back soon! read more

I had my husband's birthday party here while we were in town, and the staff was really great while we were there but it was VERY difficult to converse with anyone over email in advance. I sent multiple emails asking about the number of guests I could have, and I also requested a seating area in a part of the lounge that had sofas and was cozy. When we arrived, they didn't have enough room for all his guests to sit because they hadn't answered or checked their emails, and they seated us right up against the DJ. It was SO LOUD and chaotic, so it was impossible to hear anyone speak. They were great about letting me bring some birthday treats, and bringing it out for us to sing happy birthday to him, and our server/service was also excellent, so taking that into account I give this 3 stars instead of 1, because their failure to respond or plan far ahead for our small group on such a special occasion was a real bummer. read more

My new favorite bar in San Francisco!! I've been going to Bus Stop for almost 10 years and I never new this bar existed. My wife and I were on Yelp looking for a cool new spot to try and came across Left Door. It truly is a speak easy experience. No signs, just an apartment door that buzzes you in and all of the sudden you're in a prohibition style bar with incredible drinks and such a cool atmosphere. Definitely dress to impress and get ready to drink some wildly delicious cocktails. I got the Mezcal Negroni (I love Mezcal and I love Negronis but I've never had a Mezcal Negroni) and it was sooo good! Make a reservation cause this place fills up quick. We just got into our Lyft after, unfortunately, a pretty disappointing experience at Left Door. We were very excited to try this cocktail bar after hearing about it from both word of mouth and favorable media coverage locally. We were even denied entry a few weeks ago because they're apparently always fully booked - hence building the suspense! So we got reservations for 9:30 a few weeks in advance. I could go ahead and relate the full experience but I'll really just cut to the chase and give the readers the highlights: - Service was poor. - The menu is disappointing and basic. - The drinks were awful. - The drinks were $20 each. For $20 a cocktail what we experienced at Left Door was inexcusable. The cocktails (manhattan and whisky sour - yes both of these are fixtures on the limited menu) were legitimately bad. Cocktail enthusiasts of Yelp would do wise to look towards the multitude of high quality establishments in this city before spending time at Left Door. Incredible disappointment. read more

This place has popped on several "best bars of SF lists" so partner and I were excited to try it out. Our outing ended up being really disappointing across several points. Reservations were for 9:30 PM on a Saturday. We arrived promptly and were told that they were running behind and asked us to wait at the bar - no problem. The place was busy, but not packed to the gills. Music was pumping pretty darn loud (as in yell to be heard loud) but I enjoyed the playlist. Points for the decor, I'll admit it's well designed. The milk punch I wanted was out of stock - disappointing, but not a deal breaker. Service proceeds to be painstakingly slow. Both the response time from the bar and the waitstaff. Frankly, the waitress was more interested in flirting with patrons than caring for her section and for $20 a pop a certain level of attention and quality are to be expected. The drinks themselves were categorically bad and definitely not $20 worth. I ordered a whiskey sour and partner ordered a manhattan.The flavors were really unbalanced and had a bad aftertaste - not what you would expect for classic cocktail mainstays. We left before finishing our drinks. If you're looking for a nicely crafted cocktail I would skip this place and head on over to PCH. read more

1 star for the fact that it is a beautiful bar 1 star for the waitstaff and drinks which were excellent Minus 3 stars for the fact that the host staff was one of the rudest people I've ever met. We had 3 drinks each and a charcuterie board. There is a 90 minute time limit, which is obviously lame but fine. Except that you're not informed of this until you hit it, at which point they preemptively drop off the check and tell you that you need to "give up the table". By the way - this happened before the food we ordered arrived. They apologized for that and let us eat (so merciful), then kicked us out. We paid and got up and waited at the front of the bar while one of our friends used the bathroom (thank you left door gods for your mercy). I was chatting with my friend and said I was surprised we were being kicked out given I wasn't informed of the time limit at any point. The hostess overheard this and interjected into our conversation to inform us that we were not being kicked out, that in fact they were "overaccomodating" to us for mercifully allowing us to pull up a 3rd chair, suggested that she was going to ban us from ever coming back, and then actually DID kick us out for pointing out that asking someone to leave is the same thing as kicking someone out. Overall one of the more insane interactions I've ever had at any bar/restaurant. Shame because it's such a nice place. read more

We were having a great time and after 2 drinks we were shooed away. They told that since they're a 'small environment' they'd need our table back. Wtf), told us we can move to the bar area - no problem! This was news to us... there's a bar option? Nobody mentioned this when they "kicked" us out... By this point, I was over it, not interested in sitting at bar and feeling scorned -- this place sucks!! Don't go there. Overall, I think they're getting desperate and appealing to an out of town clientele that just wants to get in/out... and won't ask questions about service. This is an upstairs bar w no signage - how are they going to last if they don't have a good reputation with everyone in the neighborhood? Also bonus points for my taking over my friend's old apartment and turning it into a bar but calling it a "speakeasy". I used to know the guys that lived up there very well. They're laughing really hard at this stupidly swanky joint - "what a joke/they'll never make it" they said as I called to tell them the story about my experience tonight. The ambiance is sexy and feels like you're in a true speakeasy. The door is to the right of the entrance to the bus stop in between epicurean trader so it's a little sneaky. The cocktails are top notch. We also ordered the mushroom pate which was delicious and the chef went out of his way to get my gluten free crackers! We waited almost 30 minutes before being asked for our order and then when they brought us the drinks they shared for the first time that our reservation was only for 90 minutes. After trying to order a second drink which took even longer, the waitress was rude and overall the experience was pretty terrible, despite the ridiculous total bill. Overall disappointing. read more

Incredibly bad experience with the one of the waitresses!! We went in a little before 10 without a reservation and the hostess sat us at a couch. We wait about 10mins for someone to take our order, then the waitress took our drink order but only after she took our card did she tell me we only had until 10:20 at the couch, then another reservation was coming. She came back with only one drink we ordered and I had to wait another 15 mins for the same espresso martini. When she came back at 10:19 I asked how much time do I have to finish this drink, if we're getting kicked out can you just take this off our tab. She got very combative and defensive and kept condescendingly calling me "my love" while saying we needed to move to the bar and no one else would serve us simply because I asked how much time I had to finish the drink. The hostess never told us there was a time limit or we could have gone straight to the bar. It wasn't our fault the waitress forgot about my drink and it took so long for them to make a simple cocktail otherwise we could have finished it in time for the next reservation. She genuinely expected me to finish the drink in a one minute and then leave, even though the other party wasn't there yet. I've legitimately never had such an awful experience at a bar for an overpriced drink. We also overheard the staff rudely telling other parties they needed to move because they'd been at the table too long. Don't waste your time here the service downstairs at the dive bar(bus stop) is better!! They need to stop taking sit down reservations so late at night and decide if they're a cocktail bar or a restaurant. read more

I love Speakeasys and was excited to check it out. And even got dressed for the occasion. The entrance was lovely, but then we get seated in this sad side room with a street light blaring through the window b/c they said they didn't have their window coverings yet. My date and I had to squish onto seating to avoid being blinded by the light. Several wait staff came in and out of that room briefly, but didn't check in on us. The server had no panache. I felt like I could've been at an applebys when she was taking our order. I wasn't impressed with the wall decor either, seemed random and not specific to a Speakeasy vibe nor any particular period. But maybe that's because this side room we were seated in wasn't prioritized decor-wise. We were planning on eating there, but neither the seating nor service wasn't conducive to us staying any longer than one cocktail. read more
