Wow- I'm seriously in shock about this business in where I have ordered food from since I was in middle school. Last night we ordered a bunch of food- when we all took a bite we had the same face of disgust. Our beef and broccoli, the meat was terrible. It was like chewing on old grainy meat. It also had no flavor. The spicy chicken I order from there that I am Obsessed with, it was all flour and dry. No sauce either so it was just pointless to eat. All of the food lacked flavor. The wonton soup, inside wontons there is pork was nothing but the dough. I've never had such a terrible experience. I called and no one answered so we assumed it was closed. We called again the next day and they said we had to take food back in order to get refunded. They were extremely rude, didn't even apologize. I expressed to them how this was one of our favorite take out restaurants for years now and I felt such lack of customer service. I just had a baby so I can't go back just like that, and also we threw food away. Which is something I hate to do but we just couldn't eat it. After trying so many local Asian restaurants, we decided to go back to an old neighborhood favorite. Pleasant surprise--our order was delicious! Kung Pao Beef (not chewy), Lemon chicken, Thai Fried Rice, Veg Lo Mein, egg and spring rolls. Can't wait to order again. I've been gong here for over two decades. Only downside is that they no longer have restaurant style seating. The orange chicken and pineapple fried rice are my favorites. The orange chicken is sautéed rather than fried in batter then tossed in the orange sauce. It's lighter, but just as tasty. The pineapple fried rice has shrimp and pork and juicy bites of hot pineapple. Delish! A meal all on its own. read more

We have been holed up thanks to the COVID-19 problem and wanted something different for the weekend, so we ordered dinner from Lee's Kitchen. The staff was friendly, the food had just come from the kitchen when we arrived, and the price was very reasonable. What we received was excellent. The egg rolls were hot and crisp and tasty. The mustard packet that came with it was rather potent. Proceed carefully if you receive one of these. The mustard is quite good but it is very potent. A little goes a long way. The Kung Pao chicken sauce was very tasty, the meat was well cooked, and the dish much to our liking. I had a combination Egg Foo Young, which was done quite well. Some places just don't know what to do with Foo Yung but Lee's was very good. Yes, I realize that Foo Young is not really a "Chinese" dish but it is popular in American Chinese restaurants and every so often I have a hankering for it. It is essentially an omelet stuffed with meat and vegetables and fried and to a crispy brown. At many places the sauce / gravy is often thick and tasteless but Lee's did theirs right. A number of people have commented about their Morengo Delight. I have not been able to find it on their printed menu or on line. I guess I will have to ask them about it the next time we place an order. Lee's has Wor Bar, which is the hot sizzling platter you wished you had ordered when one comes by your table on its way to a diner. Wor Bar does not lend itself to take-out but when Lee's is open for sit-in business I will have to give that a try. They also have Wor Bar soup, for two. We will be back! read more

They've been steadily going downhill over the last few years which is sad to say. The front of house employees definitely aren't as nice as they used to be at least when it comes to carryout. My go to is their lemon chicken. They never screw this dish up and haven't for a good 15 years or so. Their online menu doesn't have prices which is a huge pet peeve of mine. My husband and I ate here for the first time last month. We had been traveling and hadn't had much else, and definitely had not eaten anything the same as one another. The next day, we were at work and got sick at the exact same time, with the exact same symptoms. We were both vomiting, dizzy, breaking out into a sweat, and frigid. I passed out at work. Rude, obnoxious management. Hung up on me today. Was a favorite but has taken a turn for the worse. I have been coming here for 20 years and this was the first time I had to cancel an order, in 20 years! I literally cancelled the order 2 minutes after the initial call. And when I did so the manager screamed at me over the phone then hung up on me! This is the way a loyal customer should be treated? I totally agree that this is the "standardized American Chinese place" in the 'hood. But it's solid when I want that kind of food. I love that all the fried chunky chicken type dishes (i.e., orange chicken, general tso's, etc) can be made with a meat substitute. The string beans in black bean sauce (can add whatever meat you want, I like shrimp or chicken) is my favorite dish. My husband goes crazy for the crispy beef, but only if it's eaten right then and there--it loses its crisp quality on the drive home. Speaking of drives, unfortunately this place doesn't deliver. Oh, and if you dine in you get sliced oranges. And you can order really cheap alcoholic drinks in fun glasses. So it's fun times all around. read more

Dang, Ina beats me to all the first reviews. Anyways, I always thought it was an average Chinese food place, but then my friend introduced me to the Morengo Delight. OH EM GEE (OMG) - This dish is quite delectable. It's chicken, shrimp, peanuts, and some onions (very little) in a dark brown sauce (yes I know that this is the type of sauce that Americans like), but it is HELLA GOOD. That is my go-to dish every single time I order from there. What's the point of looking at the rest of the menu? There really isn't. No delivery though. Bummer. read more

this is a sentimental favorite of mine. Lee's Kitchen has been around for well over 20 years, many of those years as a take-out only establishment. Mr. Lee has been a fixture here but the last few years he spends more and more time fishing instead of cooking. The lunch specials here are very good and very inexpensive. I love the hot and sour soup, egg drop soup, House Chicken Special, Lemon Chicken, Beef with Broccoli, Shrimp with garlic sauce and the spare ribs. The VERY BEST Chinese carry out in D.C. metropolitan area. Their Kung Pao chicken is better than any kung pao from Chinatown D.C., and there are some excellent ones (I am a DC resident). I drive to Lee's Kitchen a couple of times a month just to get their kung pao (40 minutes commute one way). Their Mongolian beef and hot and sour soup are also excellent, as is the rest of their menu. Too bad they are no longer a full service restaurant, they are just a carry out now. I am their customer for 25 years, and despite living in DC I go there exclusively just to get their food. Another excellent place in Montgomery County is the Chinese Gourmet in Kensington, MD. Their kung pao is almost as good as Lee's Kitchen . My favorite Chinese place in D.C. is Hunan Dynasty in Capitol Hill in my neighborhood, but they are not as good as Lee's Kitchen either. read more

It's all right I guess. On my first visit my waitress yelled at the busboy as she was the only waitress during lunchtime that day. I vowed never to have her serve me again as she never smiled one time and it took her forever to get to me. The only that save her was that the food was decent. I gave them a 2nd chance (for dinner this time to try and avoid the evil waitress from lunch) as the food was, decent. My family has been going to Lee's Kitchen for my entire life. We used to live 10 minutes away. We've all now moved away, but drive an hour to come back when we can. In fact, my best friend who moved to Utah is coming back this weekend, and among the few days she'll be here, one thing she absolutely wanted to do was to have dinner at Lee's Kitchen. The food is excellent and a GREAT value for the price. The service is polite and friendly. I can't fathom anyone suggesting there was disrespect or molestation there. I got Wonton Soup and Beef and Broccoli. I figure if you're going to go to a American Chinese Food place, get your staple American Chinese food, right? It was alright. The Wontons were pork I think and it was more wrapper than meat. The wrapper were very thick but they tasted yummy. And the broth...MAN! That Broth! DELICIOUS! I don't like drinking broth unless it's my mother's broth. But I drank all of this one. It wasn't salty, no MSG, PERFECT Broth! The beef and broccoli was bland-ish, but it was hot. My best friend got the Bean Curd Hunan Style. It's supposed to be spicy and it's not hot spicy but it's flavorful spicy. Perfectly flavorful spicy. She also got Hot and Sour Soup. It tasted very good. Note: I can and did eat her food when she couldn't eat mine. Everything she ordered was great and my stuff was just alright (except for that BROTH!) Service: 4/5 Stars. We arrived at 9pm and there was no else in the restaurant area. They have a great carry out service though. Lee's Kitchen is a particular favorite of mine. Located conveniently on Layhill Road, it is a quick drive from the Glenmont Metro station. My favorites here include crispy shrimp, chicken fried rice, spring rolls, and a glass of plum wine. I look forward to returning here to try the spicy green beans. I'm astounded at the bad reviews here. We've had food from here dozens - maybe hundreds - of times. The food is always very good. They do mess up an occasional order - but only an OCCASIONAL order - and we always enjoy what we get, as well as whatever new entrees we try. We particularly like the 'vegetarian chicken' option in all the chicken dishes. We've had eat-in service, too, and it's been pleasant and quick every time. My only complaint is that they charge so incredibly much for brown rice - $3! - so I often make it at home since I can get about 10 pounds of brown rice for $3 if I make it myself. Been ordering from there for 20 years and it has gone steadily downhill in the past 2-3 years. Finally giving up hope, I AM DONE! We ordered last weekend and since the order wasn't ready (after 35 minutes) my husband was waiting and watching the kitchen through the window where the "cook" was packaging lo mein using his bare hands. And then the cook scratched his head! Ugh! The woman at the desk told my husband that kitchen staff are not required to wear gloves, so we got our money back and went home for frozen pizza. I have been frequenting Lee's Kitchen since childhood! It started as a carry out and it's the first Chinese food I ever tried, then they expanded to a full service restaurant and my husband and I went often and as we had kids, they were introduced to Chinese food there, too. We were sad when the landlord raised rent forcing it to return to a carry out counter only. We love their spring rolls, egg drop soup, Kung pao chicken, shrimp with black bean sauce, honey sesame chicken, and Peking duck and many other dishes. The food is consistently good. Lees is our go to place for reliable comfort food. Also for those nights no one wants to cook. They offer gluten free options which is great! But you have to be very careful they know exactly what you're talking about and say gluten free multiple times. I've been glutened there once and it wasn't fun, but they were very sorry and ensured it wouldn't happen again. We have had multiple things off the menu. My favorites are their Singapore rice noodles and gluten free general tso's with only white meat. Their dark meat tends to be very grisly and lots of fat. My husband always tries something new when we order, his current favorite is the house special extra spicy- and they will make it extra spicy! To be honest there are certain nights where they have an excellent chef and other nights not so much, it can be hit or miss but when you have a family that needs to be fed and they're convenient it doesn't really matter. It's carry out only so no sit down section. The staff there are also hit or miss- sometimes you get a very nice older lady or a grumpy older lady, our person favorite is the older man!
