Visited with my teens and spent 27$ we had a veggie plate, however, I am vegetarian and all but the mixed vegetables were cooked in meat. So I opted for potato salad, Mac n cheese, rice and peas , and mixed veggies.... all were good but the portion size was a bit small... their little ice cream scoop of food is not adequate. My son got the fried chicken, Mac n cheese, and collards, chicken was over cooked but he said it was tasty still and was full. We ordered the coco bread as well because they were out of cornbread, it was good but they lady didn't give it to me with my order, I had to assure her I paid for it and the man next to her confirmed it. I discovered this place awhile ago but for some reason never got around to writing a review. well today's the day so here i go, i had been hearing about this place from a few friends of mine for a long time before ever going there . they talked about how good the jerk chicken sandwich was so naturally that's what i went with when i decided to stop by. i can honestly say that for once gossip was true , because that jerk chicken was right on the money. Moist and full of flavor, fries also came with the sandwich and they were just as good. The menu consisted of all the Jamaican classics, rice and peas, ox tails, meat patties everything you would expect from a Jamaican restaurant. I have not had anything here that was not excellent. Chicken dishes are stocked full with chicken including lots of white meat chicken, rather than skin, bones and gristle which you see with other places. Oxtails are super tender and flavorful (I didn't eat oxtails before Lee's Kitchen!). Collard greens and cornbread just so good and flavorful. I can't get enough Lee's. And there is now a 2nd location with seating. Dishes generally come with rice and beans/peas or cabbage. You will be shocked that a Jamacian Restaurant in Mini-city has some of the best food around Raleigh. Their food is so good, that my husband who doesn't even eat Jamacian food,always asks to sample my food. He is extremely shocked at how good it tastes. My husband isn't a big eater of goat, ox tails, or stewed chicken but he says Lee's may one day make him a believer. Anyway enough about him.I love Lee's ox tails, curry goat, curry chicken and jerk chicken so much, that I usually eat the entire plate before my husband and I make it home. The MAC AND CHEESE is unbelievable. No seriously, you might want to take your mother and grandmother there for lessons.Lol. IF i could do a 0 star review, I WOULD. Everytime I come here they mess up my order BUT feel so though they don't need to compensate ANYTHING. I have had multiple terrible experiences with Lees Kitchen. In 2019, they gave me hard uncooked rice and wanted me to suck the hard rice off the oxtails. Then today I came for a replacement meal from a meal they messed up AGAIN monday and the manager or whoever the bald lady is, makes a fuss about me only paying for OXTAILS when I only left with macaroni covered in OXTAIL JUICE (yes only juice) on that monday because they "thought" I asked for juice... Who gets the JUICE of a meat on a side of mac ???!!! And not ask to repeat yourself or something to make sure ??? They're customer service is trash. The food is trash. And all the attitude the bald shit talking lady has she can put it into making the food better. Also the employees are all on different pages, I always call to make sure they can replace the meal and it's always fine and dandy over the phone, but in person it feel like a hassle that THEY messed up YOUR meal. never coming back. I went Saturday evening with family bragging about how good the food is. This night was quite the exception. Two sides of collards that were very undercooked and over peppered. The Jamaican jerk chicken was twice as bad. The chicken parts were the upper shank of the chicken not the the rib or wings but more like the part closest to where the neck bone is I don't even no what to call it. I've visited this restaurant 3 times in last month and each time I've had fantastic food and good service. I'm on the edge of 4 or 5stars but I'm going 5 because my one issue is Lee's Kitchen is only a take out spot. I wish I could sit down and eat my authentic Jamaican food right there. Of the meals I've eaten this is what I'll rate them; Curry chicken- good Brown stew- great Oxe tails- yummy "I would a little more tender tho" Jerk chicken- OMFG!!!!!! It burns soooooo good!!! I guess I've never had real Jerk chicken before cause I wasn't ready for what I put in my mouth. I saw the chicken looked like it was covered in tar but it smells kinda sweet, and taste sweet for the first 5 seconds. Then just OMFG what did I do, mouth hurting, nose running hot. it's so flavorful I've ordered it twice in a row as a side adding extra plantains. Lastly the sides are to just as good as the meats. Rice and peas smothered in Oxe tail gravy is my favorite but right behind it is the Mac and cheese and collar greens. By far the BEST jerk chicken around! It's gotta spice that'll kick you in the face and while your crying, you'll be diving in for seconds and thirds. I'm just speechless. I've been here a few times (twice to be exact) and want to like the food so bad, but I can't. First let me say the macaroni and cheese and the collard greens are good, very good so they get a star for that. The chicken wings are horrible. I stopped in last night and ordered food for my family and it was about 6:15-6:30 and they took my order. I ordered a plate of jerk chicken with string beans and Mac and cheese, I got one plate of brown stew chicken with yams and mixed veggies, two beef patties and a side of yams. I got back in line and ordered a plate of curry chicken with rice and peas and mixed veggies. I only got plantains on one of my plates the other two were without plantains and one of my plates was missing the curry chicken altogether. This was by far my worst experience with these people, the attitude I can tolerate but not getting my food I cannot. I called today and spoke with a manager supposedly and she only opted to replace my food, and not understanding that I had to go back out and get other food for the food that was missing so my food was cold when it was time to finally eat. My favorite Jamaican spot in the area so far. There's one closer to my house in Cary but I'll drive cross town to go here. The curry goat and brown stew chicken are my favorite. I love the Mac n cheese. I always get an extra side when I go. Only complaint would be that sometimes they are out of certain foods. There's been times that I've been there and they didn't have rice and peas or patties. And this was at the start of business on a Saturday(most times I go right after getting a cut at the barbershop next door on sat morning). I just never understand how you don't have those two things ready. I still love this place though. read more

I think this would be a regular take out place for me, except for the amount of salt in the food. It may be that the clientele is used to a higher level of salt, when they really shouldn't, but it interferes with the flavor the restaurant really has to offer. Stopped in on Father's Day and the restaurant was very busy. The food portions were generous and the food was good. We got oxtails & jerk chicken. 3 dinner trays cost $46 and I think that's a little pricey. There's a $0.50 up-charge for mac & cheese and idk why. The staff was polite which is always a plus. Their inspection rating is a 94 which is decent but could be better. Overall good experience. We'd go back! read more

I absolutely love this place! The food is amazing, and consistently good. I've never been and they were having an "off" day. I typically come in for lunch because its close to my job. The only thing I wish they had was an area to dine in. This would be perfect. I work at a corporate job and I would love to take people here for lunch but I can't. We usually order from Lee's Kitchen and the food has been fantastic, however I decided to cater some items for my wedding because of my past experience with their food. However I was shocked on the disorganization when it came to the catering aspect of this restaurant. I called a few days ahead to confirm 1 item (potato Salad) to make sure that it could be done since the person who makes it hasn't been " which is what I was told" I called because no one called me to confirm this (which I was told someone would). Once I got there I didn't mind waiting but what came next blew me out of the park the potato salad was in take out containers which is what I didn't order. I order 1 big pan and 1 small pan. When I asked about this they realized the error however it took more than 10 mins before someone said anything to me or my daughter. Then as it turned out they only had enough for the small pan. I will say I lost control since I was standing there at a time where I should have been meeting my partner to say I do. There was also an issue with another pan of Mac and Chesse and we still had to wait at least another 20 minutes. To be honest I walked out and allowed my daughter to handle this issue since I just broke out in tears at the time. I was and still am extremely disapointed in Lee's Kitchen and I sincerely will not ever spend my money with them again, when my co-workers asked what happen they were also very upset since the majority of my company order take out from Lee's every Friday and or Sat. Their logo is "a taste of Jamaican with a touch of soul". Well I don't find this to be true. Although their Jamaican food is pretty good, their Mac and cheese is not black southern. Their Mac is actually an insult and very nasty. So this is a no go for good ol southern Mac and cheese. Had no cheddar taste to it at all and they should just stick with "Jamaican" food. Their Mac tastes like garbage. My only other complaint is their oxtails is too salty every time I've tasted it. This is why us black folk has more high blood pressure than any other race! Very disrespectful Experience!! Female manage on duty has no Managerial Skills. I visited a week prior to today and I brought with me 4 coworkers that have never heard of this restaurant. I got back to my office and there was glass or a big piece of hard translucent sharp plastic in my Collards. I called back and the manager on duty stated that it was part of the serving dish and that he would replace my meal. Upon arriving today I told the manager on duty what happened and showed her a picture of the food that I did not was and I asked why would they not also refund me my money. She firmly stated that it's either one or the other, I informed her that they makes no sense. I found glass/plastic in my food, took pictures of it, called and talked to a manger, drove 10 miles to get there and all that's the kind of customer service I receive.. read more

I absolutely adore this place of Caribbean Goodness. I have had the jerk chicken, curry chicken, brown stewed chicken (MY ABSOLUTE FAVE!!!), cabbage, rice and peas, white rice, greens, mac and cheese and various slices of cakes. Before Lee's I had never had brown stewed chicken, now it is my favorite dish to order at ANY Caribbean restaurant. Unfortunately, no one can touch LK's version. Fortunately, it keep me coming back to Lee. LOL. I will say the female staff can be extremely rude. I actually have snapped back when they snap first because there is no way that anyone in a service position should be speaking to a customer like that. The male staff (Including Lee) are absolutely personable, charming and accommodating. The price point is a little high but the food is fresh and good. One time they royally screwed up my catering order and this is when I had to snap back at the rude female employee who could have cared less my party was in less than an hour and she refused to make the dish. I love that they bring variety to Raleigh's culinary delight. I've eaten Lee's twice, the first time was absolutely FANTASTIC! Every bite better than the last... I ordered the Jamaican combo platter, two meats (jerk and curry chicken), rice and peas, and mixed greens. A very pricy pick for a take out place about $15.00. The place is small, with a cafe style buffet, and a register. You can see clearly into the kitchen, the place where the magic happens. There is routinely about five to a dozen people crammed into the small waiting area, in line ordering at the register and others waiting for their number. It was worth the twenty minutes for the bliss that followed. To my next visit... Now, I loved the meal so much last time that I ordered the same thing again the second time. I called my order in, to avoid the wait but, it didn't work because, there were about ten people in line ordering at the register... A VERY poor system! This time wasn't nearly as good, the Jerk had and overwhelming burnt taste, not blackened, burnt. The curry chicken was awesome still, but in my opinion the Jerk chicken is the star of this meal, and frankly, it let me down! The rice and peas were off their game as well, then again, I might have just been so disappointed with the burnt jerk taste, or perhaps the carbon flavor tainted the flavor of the other items, except for the Curry Chicken, that I consumed first off.
