I ordered an oxtail dinner and a curry chicken dinner. The choose cabbage and yams as sides for both dinners. The plantains were medium size, tender, and not too sweet. The yams and cabbage were delicious. The curry chicken was balanced with flavor, and the oxtails were meaty and cooked to perfection. My two complaints were the tight space full of customers waiting for their food, and the wait time for my food. A staff member should have asked customers to wait outside for their orders, or three customers at a time should have been allowed inside of the restaurant. I do not like for customers to literally be on my heels. I will return again to the Capital Blvd location. But since Lee's Kitchen is so known and popular in Raleigh and I've never had it, I had to give it a try anyways. Let me start off by saying ubereats and the Lee's Kitchen app both miss a lot of menu items (turkey wings, beef patties, etc.) so if what you want is on there you're lucky but we weren't able to order ahead because of this. The food is really delicious, decent prices, big portions, and hot food. We got turkey wings, white rice, rice and peas, veggies, oxtails, and Mac n cheese. We enjoyed all of it and finished our plates! The veggies is pretty much just cabbage and the Mac is super good. You can get the turkey wings baked, grilled, fried, smothered, etc. but they said the two most popular were smothered and fried so we did smothered. The only complaint we had was that the turkey wing plate didn't have a lot of rice (we thought there'd be more under the wings but it was just that corner.) I'd definitely come back here and get the same thing or try the curry goat. They also have a large variety of different fruit juices and drinks! Sign says close at 7pm but multiple times I've been there and the doors will be locked but (with works still serving) those that got in earlier. The oxtail's aren't worth $20.00, they are thin and mostly fat. They only give you 5 which included the small broken off piece and one big piece of fat. Just poor quality meat, period. I added a size of Mac and cheese, I shouldn't have because i could have done without it. I had heard several mixed reviews about Lee's kitchen before making a last minute decision to check it out for myself. My daughter and I were in the area and had a taste for beef patties, literally 5 minutes away. It's was around 1pm on a Saturday afternoon and they were out of beef patties, but had chicken, so that was fine. They never answer the phone for placing orders, which forces diners to queue long minutes, and the app/online ordering tool doesn't show all the menu options. Yesterday i saw this place for the first time and I'm so glad i ordered from Lee's Kitchen. This food is sooooo good. Not the 100% authentic type Jamaican I get back in Brooklyn but still very very delicious. The rice and peas were perfection! The oxtails were tender and flavorful. I've been passing this place, this strip mall, for years. Big huge mistake. I actually stopped in with my wife to a different restaurant that we were going to try. But we saw "JAMAICAN" on a sign across the parking lot, looked at each other and smiled. We changed our plans on the fly and walked over to Lee's. Look, when you walk in, there's not much to see. There's standing room for half a dozen or so customers, a few drink coolers, and some loud hip-hop playing. The staff all smiled when we came in, greeted us sincerely, and one asked if we'd been there before, if we had any questions. There was a cafeteria style spread of food, we asked how it works. You pick a meat, two sides, and it comes with two plantains on top of that. I got the curried chicken with yams and red beans & rice. She got the jerk chicken with collards and mac-n-cheese. It all gets served in a partitioned styrofoam takeout tray. The portions are generous. They keep adding meat almost like they are playing Tetris. "How much can I fit in here and still close the lid?" Let me tell you, I walked in to Lee's feeling a little down about how my day was going. I got back to my car and we didn't even wait to get it home. We just dug in, right there in the car. And we tried each other's foods so I got a bit of a taste of everything in our two lunch orders. Everything was so good. Even the collards. And I don't normally like collards. I'm pretty sure it was cooked with pork, so if you're a vegetarian or vegan, this is probably NOT the place for you. And it was spicy. Not crazy spicy, not like Thai food. But I'm pretty accustomed to spicy foods and my eyes did get a little watery, and my nose a little sniffly. It was definitely clearing me out. Look, this place is not much to look at. It's not a restaurant. It's not about ambiance or any schtick. It's just a place where you go in you get one or more styrofoam boxed filled with amazing food, and you GET OUT and go somewhere that you can eat the food. That simple. The food is AWESOME. The people are friendly. There was a bit of a crowd in there ordering food (so it's got a following) but they moved people through pretty efficiently so you're not going to wait long. I was so disappointed with my meal... jerk chicken, cabbage, green beans and corn bread. The cabbage and greens had been cooked so much that it was super soft and unpleasant to look at, the jerk chicken was so black that it could possible be something else beside chicken. The corn bread was tastee, but you should name it corn bread pound cake. The taste of the meal was salty and hot, no other seasons could be identified. I ate only a small amount to keep my blood sugar balanced. Otherwise, I would have giving it all to the trash can. It will be a very long time, if ever, will I go to this restaurant again. Have always passed by this place off Capital Blvd but it never crossed my mind to give it a try until now. And I'm glad I did! I was looking for a local place that offered authentic southern cuisine to try out while I was still in town and ran across Lee's Kitchen. Fairly small shop that primarily serves food on the go (or so it seems). They have a buffet style set up in which a team of people prepare your order in a decent amount of time. As for my order: The collard greens blew my mind with the amount of flavor it had. Mac n cheese, well, you can never go wrong with that. Very flavorful! The BBQ chicken in my opinion was quite dry with some bitter flavors from the burnt sauce I assume but overall a delicious meal. The portion was quite hefty as well. I plan on visiting again next time I'm in town to try out their Caribbean cuisine & will update this review accordingly! read more

Stopped into Lee's Kitchen 3 nights ago for a take-away brown stew chicken dinner with plantains and mac'n cheese. No sooner then digging into the first bite of mac and I pull out a 3 inch by 3 inch industrial piece of plastic! How such a large peice of debris/choking hazard was missed and subsequently served to a guest is mind boggling! Absolutely dangerous, unsanitary and just all around gross. And I guess that puts the question to rest that their mac'n cheese is definitely not homemade. I reached out to the location with pics (not even asking for a refund) and description of the incident, so at minimum they could through out the contaminated batch before someone chokes to death, but they did not feel the need to respond. read more
