The food was authentic and they're located in a very unassuming looking strip. For a dinner sized portion, my portions were small. I was recommended this place by a coworker. On my quest for good caribbean food, I decided to give Lee's a try. I ordered the ox tail meal and was excited to hear that they had black cake (rum cake). However, I think I was unlucky in the ox tail; it was extremely fatty with not much meat. However, the flavor was delicious. The rum cake was NOT true rum cake; it was merely pound cake with some rum added. As any true Barbadian (or other caribbean person) would know- rum cake is know as black cake for a reason. I still decided to give the rum cake a try though. It was way too sweet, and as someone who loves sugary food, I couldn't even get through more than 3 bites. This place is such a great find! One of my co-worker's recommended it to me and I love it. It is truly a hidden gem on capital blvd. I am not a fan of the location it is right next to the pawn shop that closed, but minus that it's a great place. There is not a sitting area so you can only pick up orders. I highly recommend their veggie platter. They have a great selection of mac and cheese, mixed veggies(cabbage), the best string beans i've ever had, and great rice. This place deserves zero stars honestly. I placed my order via UberEATS. I'm guessing it's some sort of fusion between authentic Jamaican and soul food...but everything was horrible. I'm especially upset because of the inflated cost and small portions of food. I ordered the oxtail with rice and peas, a side of plantains, and a Jamaican beef patty. The oxtail was unusually dark, extremely salty, and overcooked to the point where it was too tough to eat. The plantains were edible (I guess) and my beef patty was extremely stale. I have to say I'm VERY surprised by the mixed reviews for Lee's. Everything I've had from here has been absolutely delicious and the portions are always big enough for leftovers. Lee's has been getting me through the Covid crisis. If they weren't on UberEats I'd be devastated. I love that they have both soul food and Jamaican food. Their wings are fire! And the veggie sides are so yummy. I love the string beans especially. I also love the goat curry and brown stew chicken. In regards to the prices I honestly don't know what people are talking about. The portions are very large. I enjoyed my side items more than my entree. I had the jerk chicken with the collards and macaroni and cheese. The collards are made with turkey instead of pork which is always a win in my book. The jerk chicken was over cooked and lacked flavored. After reading the yelp reviews, I had to try this place. I ordered the Jerk Chicken lunch special for $6.99. This plate came with rice and peas, some 'mixed vegetables', a fried plantain, and the chicken. I also got a can of Mountain dew for $0.75 I have never had Jamaican food before, so I was excited to taste this stuff. The Jerk chicken was good, taste wise, and quite spicy, but they only gave me three pieces and they were small. The rice was good as well but again the portion is not enough for an adult. Plantain was alright, that was my first time trying that as well. I didn't even have the mixed vegetables, because all I got was some boiled cabbage with a few peas and carrots thrown into the mix, I'm just not a fan of cabbage. So overall the food was good taste wise, but there just isn't enough food in the plate to enjoy. This is what made my experience bad, the attitudes of the workers. The girl at the cash register had a very rude tone and didn't speak clearly and seemed annoyed. The soda was in a cooler that had a sign stating: "Drinks are not self serve anymore", so I figured that the cashier would hand me a soda from the cooler behind the counter. I asked for the soda and with a rude tone she told me to get it myself. This is not a good way to retain customers. I really want to give this place at least 3 stars, but the service was just really bad. I love it sooooo much that I was on my way to pickup my order one day and I got in a minor car accident (I wasn't at fault :) and afterwards even with my little headache and hurt knee I went to get my togo order! First let me tell you a little bit about the place. The restaurant serves authentic Jamaican and Soul food. So you can get curry chicken and collards, or plantains and smothered pork chops. :) The restaurant is carryout only and you should definitely call ahead to place your order because sometimes its a little hectic in there (people love this place)! I'm a big fan of the collards, no seasoning needed! I normally go somewhere and have to add vinegar or something to my collards to make them taste better but these can be eaten without any self add-ons. The macaroni is sooooo good, Idk what they do to it but its unique and yummy. The curry chicken is definitely amazing! I normally dont eat onions but the curry is soooo good I refuse to pick thru it! The prices here are amazing. You can get a side meat of curry chicken (or other meats) for $5 and it comes with rice and peas or plain white rice! And its enough to get full off of. Sides come with most of the meals and you can also buy them individually for I think $3 and you get a HUGE portion. Just to name some items they have on the menu... Pork Chops (done several ways), chicken, fish, curry chicken, jerk chicken, brownstew chicken, cabbage, collards, macaroni..... I was born and raised in St. Thomas, VI and I can say that Lee's Kitchen is THE best west indian take out place! I've eaten pretty much everything on the menu. Everything is authentic and done really well. My favorite however is the brown stew chicken and the mac and cheese. It is so good, that if I could eat an entire tray I would! Even though it is only a store front take out place, just walking in there makes me feel at home. This place is the real deal! I can tell especially because they even have ting.
