Korean BBQ Cheesesteak, fries, Carrot Cupcake
    Alicia J.

It was the first nice warm day of spring and I along with what feels like the rest of the city decided to have a picnic lunch. Lee's Deli was close to our picnic spot and I'd heard how well-loved it was by locals so decided to pick up our lunch here. The inside has a couple tables and nice counter seating so you could also eat inside. I had cash prepared but they seem to also do takeout orders on Doordash which I assume accommodates card. My partner was craving a classic Italian hoagie and went for that while I was immediately drawn to the Korean BBQ cheesesteak - can't believe I haven't seen anyone else put bulgogi on a cheesesteak. We also added an order of fries and a carrot cake (from the famous Carrot Cake Man of West Philly so I've heard). The owner kindly added a free cup of veggie soup to our order which was a nice surprise for our very first time there! It was such a huge haul of food that we didn't end up eating dinner, and for such an affordable price! The Korean cheesesteak was just as I'd hoped, bursting with the sweet smoky flavor of bulgogi. On the contrary, the carrot cake was not too sweet (which is a compliment) and perfectly moist. We liked the Italian hoagie but it was just a bit short of meat to be the perfect rendition. I think next time I go I'll target the hot sandwiches and pastries, and yes there definitely will be a next time!

While visiting a dear friend living in Philly experiencing local food became priority. I learned that Lee's Deli carries baked goods created by local bakers. We purchased 6 items made by Taa'ib Pastries. These sweet treats are so delicious. My favorite is the French Apple Pie. So if you are craving homemade style baked goods in West Philly I recommend Lee's Deli.

Hoagie with 2 slice of meat and 1 slice of cheese for $11.00 plus door dash cost SMH

My coworkers and I orders from Lee's today for lunch after hearing amazing things. Well, we got 4 hoagies and all of them lacked meat. The hoagies had 2 slices of meat and 1 slice of cheese. It was the worst hoagie ever, it was like eating a veggie sandwich. We will not be ordering again. Extremely disappointed!

bulgogi cheese steak + carrot cake muffin are great! Add pickles for sure!!! =========== Just got delivery from DoorDash and I'm very satisfied Bulgogi cheese steak I was worried this would be super sweet, but it actually wasn't. I added pickles to this and it was great with the meat. There's pieces of broccoli in this too so it's kinda not terrible for you. The cheese and the beef aren't overwhelming one another. Carrot cake Texture is a little dense more like a muffin, but this was not too sweet and cream cheese frosting had enough tang in it. Yum. As I was eating, some grease or sauce went all over my fingers. Def a messy meal. Tasty if you want a bit of a twist to your cheese steak.

    The Reuben!!!

I placed an order for the Reuben sandwich with the dressing on the side and received not only the dressing on the sandwich but also the dressing on the side!! When I called to let the owner know, he claimed he didn't hear me say on the side however, how did I end up with a side of Russian dressing. It's the lack of accountability for me in this situation. Customer service is the pinnacle of any business! I do not feel I received good customer service at all. An apology for the miscommunication would have sufficed however, that did not happen here. Looks like I will have to find a new establishment to patronize!!!

I ordered from Lee's Deli because I know they have carrot cake made by the mythical "carrot cake man". The carrot cake man has been selling his carrot cakes on public transportation for many years. I didn't just order the carrot cake. I ordered a sampling of desserts along with an Italian hoagie. It is a deli after all. The Italian hoagie was a good hoagie, but nothing memorable. It will not be my go-to spot for an Italian. It seems none of the desserts are made in house, but they definitely know where to get them from The carrot cake was the same cake I remembered from years back. Very moist with the best cream cheese icing I've ever tasted. The red velvet and pound cake were also outstanding cakes. Right up there with the best Amish cakes. The sweet potato pie was just OK. I wouldn't get that again. I had 3 outstanding desserts, so no complaints there. But the deli part doesn't seem to be up to that very high bar.

"Rule Breaker" Salmon and Shrimp Sandwich

Game Over Cheesesteak- This is the main reason I go to Lee's! I was introduced almost a decade ago now and that sandwich calls my name every now and then. Marinated chicken, grilled on the flat top and topped with Shrimp. I usually get it with Mayo and Fried Onions and spinach even tho you have your choice of spinach or broccoli. The Sweet and Sour/sweet chili type sauce that goes with it actually ties everything together perfectly. Great creative cheesesteak. 4.5/5 Rule Breaker Cheesesteak/Sandwich- The last time I got this sandwich with Salmon and Shrimp, it was a little underwhelming. Everything wasn't as fresh as I've had before but still pretty tasty. Nothing is really chopped and there's a lot of vegetables in the sandwich which makes for good flavors but certainly isn't a cheesesteak. Probably a 3.3/5 Lee's is a neighborhood spot but the Game Over cheesesteak is worth traveling for. (Ig: FoodieLifeMac . Check out my Lee's Deli YouTube review on Foodie Life Mac page. My fave sandwich is still Korean BBQ Cheesesteak, but now my fave fries are Garlic Parmesan Cheese Fries (though I ask for less cheese because of my lactose sensitivity). Regarding portions: If two of us each order our own sandwich and share a small order of fries, it's already pretty filling. I have shared a large portion of fries between 2-3 people when we got our own sandwiches...probably too much food for 2, but better for 3. And since they introduced me to Carrot Cake Man, I always order it when I go and ask them to microwave it on the spot. If I ever change my order from these 3 things, maybe I'll update my review again, ha.

The guy taking our order was very nice and there was plenty of seating and it seemed like there was additional seating upstairs, but we didn't have to head up there. The bathroom was nice and clean. As for the food, the Philly cheesesteak was massive, but tasted just okay. It seemed quite heavy on the bread. I think my husband maybe ordered wrong as he should've gotten the cheese whiz or maybe gotten the one with peppers. We've definitely had better cheesesteaks. The waffle fries were fries: tasty and delicious. My MIL's caprese salad was interesting. It was atop a bed of greens which was unexpected. It was also $15 which seemed a little extravagant for what it was. Overall, it was a decent meal and tasty. I'd hit it up for lunch of you're in a pinch and you'd definitely have leftovers for later as well.

Not tough but a nice, soft seeded sub roll. Seeing it arrive was a little overwhelming but I kinda thought the thing was light and was easy to finish off 1/2. The Fig and Pig - the fig jam was outstanding. Great sweetness with the saltiness from the prosciutto and then to top it off, the crunch of the cutlets. Excellent. As I was leaving, I saw a cutlet, with mutz, broccoli rabe, and roasted red peppers. I WILL be back for that. That looked amazing. Service was very friendly, prompt. They serve you fresh waster (Drinks to order include Hanks, Boylan's, Harney and Sons, Teas etc.) and will serve you at the table or you can walk up and order at the counter. Their menu has a great mix of deli, steak, "chicken" steak, meatball, sausage and cutlet sandwiches with interesting flavor combos. You can also get breakfast (till 11AM) or a salad. They also have sides that include - tots, fried pickle chips, onion rings, fries, fried mozzarella and Zayda's pickle spears, chips and cherry pepper shooters. They have a couple of vegan options and GF rolls for extra $$. The staff was more than happy to give recommendations and their favs. My first lunch was The Eye - $15 Ribeye steak, Cooper Sharp American, fried onions came on a seeded Liscio's roll. If you enjoy the somewhat newer Cooper sharp style that's out there you'll like theirs. The Cooper sharp was gooey, mixed in well with the meat and on the heavier side. The ribeye was thin cut, delicious and the portion was pretty hefty. Second visit I went with - The Nad - $15 Chicken cutlet, fresh mozzarella, prosciutto, arugula, Mike's Hot Honey that came on an unseeded Liscio's roll. The portion size was good, chicken was fresh with good breading, the hot honey was a tad on the heavy side, but the flavors all came together pretty good on this one. Sweet, salty, light bitterness from the arugula and some heat from the hot honey. I added Thin Cut Idaho fries to make it a combo for $3 extra and I have to say they were delicious. They smelled like McD's and tasted similar. They are cash only, but have an ATM on site. You can use a card if you order online. The one bathroom they have was pretty clean and organized. I will certainly stop back for a visit if I'm in the area to try out more of their menu. Thanks guys!
