Old fashioned Italian hoagie (this is 1/2)
    Meredith F.

Their t shirts read "South Philly's best kept secret"-- and they're not lying. Vincenzo's serves a mean Italian sandwich. The Old Fashioned Italian hoagie was absolutely perfect: Italian cold cuts, sharp provolone, balsamic vinegar, and a long hot pepper, on a chewy sesame roll. This hit the spot! Only $10, and big enough that my friend and I split it and were stuffed. I enjoyed my half with an Orangina, sitting at the counter looking out the front window. A perfect lunch experience on a warm June day. 10/10 would stop again.

Vincenzo's corner deli in the heart of South Philly

Vincenzo's is one of South Philly's hidden treasures. This small deli is operating for take-out during the Covid-19 pandemic. It is located on a corner in a typical South Philly rowhome neighborhood - actually it is not that far from trendy East Passyunk Avenue but Vincenzo's feels a world apart. In my opinion they re especially known for two offerings from their menu - their breakfast sandwiches and their hoagies. Recently I ordered one of their famous hoagies. Ir did not disappoint. Their take on this Philly classic sandwich is not quite as large as some but there is none tastier in all of Philadelphia. The Old-Fashioned Italian contains a flavorful mixture of prosciutto, soppressata. capicola, sharp provolone, and long hots. It bursts with flavor. Vincenzo's might not be on the beaten path ... but it's on a path you will want to discover!

I got the cheesesteak which was probably a mistake. Everyone raves about their food (especially meatballs) except the cheesesteak. Fun little neighborhood breakfast/lunch place. At some point when I am back in the area I will try the meatballs and/or Breakfast.

Very good Italian hoagie. First time having it the other day. Will certainly come back and try out other menu items.

Meanwhile I'm witnessing the chef walk out the door, go down the street, and return with fresh broccoli rabe from one of the vendors. Now I'm considering walking out. And then the sandwich arrives. It is a glorious sandwich with perfect textured meatballs, a tangy red sauce, ricotta and mozzarella and pesto. My son's rage vanished immediately. This is the best hands down meatball sandwich I ever had. Everything was on point. Meatball itself was not mealy or super dense, just the perfect bite. One sandwich at $16 was massive enough to where the both of us had to take home leftovers (which we are eating right now). Point being is that the sandwiches are to die for. Certain sandwiches take longer to make. This one took a long time but boy! What a sandwich! This place is a gem.

Fast forward 12 years, and now its Antonio's Deli...let me tell you something......still AMAZING! My Brother and I came here for a breakfast hoagie. We got an Olde Italian to split since we were going to Reading Terminal Market right after. How was the hoagie? Delicious! The Olde Italian comes on the best bread in the land IMO (Sarcones...seeded roll...you just cant beat it!). So crusty and great texture. This sandwich had all the goodies on it including proscuitto, capicola and sopressata. They use a crumbled sharp provolone cheese here (think blue cheese crumbles, but sharp provolone!) that is so freaking good! The veggies include roasted red peppers, lettuce tomato and onion. They top it with some olive oil and seasonings. Hoagie perfection! This was my favorite sandwich that I ate in Philadelphia and my favorite sandwich on my 1 week trip back East! I LOVED IT. If you are in Philadelphia and want the best hoagie around, come here! I can't wait to go back to Philadelphia one of these years and try out some more of their sandwiches. Just perfect! Their menu has a great mix of deli, steak, "chicken" steak, meatball, sausage and cutlet sandwiches with interesting flavor combos. You can also get breakfast (till 11AM) or a salad. They also have sides that include - tots, fried pickle chips, onion rings, fries, fried mozzarella and Zayda's pickle spears, chips and cherry pepper shooters. They have a couple of vegan options and GF rolls for extra $$. The staff was more than happy to give recommendations and their favs. My first lunch was The Eye - $15 Ribeye steak, Cooper Sharp American, fried onions came on a seeded Liscio's roll. If you enjoy the somewhat newer Cooper sharp style that's out there you'll like theirs. The Cooper sharp was gooey, mixed in well with the meat and on the heavier side. The ribeye was thin cut, delicious and the portion was pretty hefty. Second visit I went with - The Nad - $15 Chicken cutlet, fresh mozzarella, prosciutto, arugula, Mike's Hot Honey that came on an unseeded Liscio's roll. The portion size was good, chicken was fresh with good breading, the hot honey was a tad on the heavy side, but the flavors all came together pretty good on this one. Sweet, salty, light bitterness from the arugula and some heat from the hot honey. I added Thin Cut Idaho fries to make it a combo for $3 extra and I have to say they were delicious. They smelled like McD's and tasted similar. They are cash only, but have an ATM on site. You can use a card if you order online. The one bathroom they have was pretty clean and organized. I will certainly stop back for a visit if I'm in the area to try out more of their menu. Thanks guys!

It's the spot where that vegan college kid whose parents are in from out of town, and won't go to one of those "weird vegan places" so here we all are, with them ordering meat, and the vegan kid getting a meal that isn't French fries. It's both homey and inviting while being fun too. It's a huge spot, with lots of little alcoves and corners to tuck your group into, so that you can have privacy to hang out while still being part of the community. On a Sunday morning, the TV had Shrek playing on there. The Bloody Mary has pickle brine in it. The mimosas come from sparkling wine that's on tap. The water is served in those old school hard plastic red drinking glasses like you got at the Pizza Hut buffet back in the day. The fried food is served in those little plastic trays lined with parchment paper. Genuinely, this feels like finding buried treasure and I'm sad at all the time I've wasted not coming here before now. This place is absolutely awesome. Now the food. Polenta fries were creamy on the inside, and crisp on the outside, and not greasy at all. Vegan fried dough was piled high with cinnamon and sugar, and served with the side of maple syrup. The vegan sausage and peppers sandwich was piled high with both! Seriously guys, the portions here are generous, and the food is delicious. If something sounds good, it's probably going to be good.
