Had heard about this place from a cousin. Small local spot, really good cheesesteak. Service was quick and easy. Debit recommend this place if you're in the area.

Hello, I decided to check out Gooey looie's in South Philly. I heard that the cheesesteaks and hoagies were very good. Its time to see what's up. The store is tucked in a really small plaza in South Philly.Luckily I found parking which is available. The store is small but the inviting neighborhood. deli type that's a plus. No seating available but its all good. I ordered a turkey ham hoagie with everything . Being from Philly I have to admit this was one of thee freshest hoagies I've had in my LIFE. Looked and smelled so good almost forgot to take a Pic so sorry yall got half a hoagie. I'd recommend this place next time I'll be trying the cheesesteak...so come and enjoy this goodness

Great little place in south Philly a few minutes from I-95. Parking is a little tough. There is a small lot nearby. The SMALL steak is HUGE. $20 for a steak, coleslaw, and a drink. Cash only. I was there mid-afternoon and there was a line. Food came out fast. There was a picture of Babe Heffron and Bill Guarnere (101st Airborne) over the counter. When I said something, the entire group became incredibly friendly and shared a few stories about them.

Small inconspicuous friendly place. A Philly native recommended this place. The employees were very nice. They could tell this was my first visit and made my visit easy. The cooks were also helpful and polite. The cheesesteak was ok. Wasn't the best I had in Philly nor DC for that matter. But good. Would I leave the main city of Philly for here, no. Would I make a stop if I'm close by, yes. There isn't much seating in the place but plenty of outdoor tables and such.

Tucked away in an adorable courtyard plaza, Gooey Looie's can be tough to find. But it's worth finding-- residual if you're really, really hungry. Prices are reasonable and portions are huge. The hoagie was packed with cold cuts. Husband loved it. The cheesesteak was HUGE. It's not greasy but not dry. It's a reliable cheesesteak. Bring cash. Staff are really nice. They have tables outside of the weather is good and you need to eat ASAP.

Authentic experience. We were visiting NYC and stopped here solely to grab a cheesesteak Philly Cheese Steak since it was on the way back home to DC. They have a sandwich shop in the back, and it operates like a mini market. You have a few guys in the back and taking orders - seems like the old school way of doing it. We got a large cheese steak with onions hot peppers, and it was real good. I think it could've used a bit of salt, but it was real good. I would've asked for extra cheese next time, and you can include things like mushroom, lettuce, tomato, etc. Definitely would recommend! The cheesesteak is enough for two.

Went to this place to try an authentic Philly cheesesteak while passing through and was amazed by the small shop vibe. They had sandwiches and hoagies which essentially included the addition of lettuce and tomato. I had a cheesesteak and my cousin had the egg salad hoagie (pictured here). It was a no frills experience. No seating inside so we ate on some tables outside. I overall liked my cheesesteak but wished I could add on more than just sport peppers, such as a chipotle mayo. I would probably try a different spot if I was back in Philly. Bottom line: not the best cheesesteak I've had, but not the worst

Prepare your treasure maps for this stop, we had a heck of a time finding it. Much like a treasure hunt though, when you find it...you'll feel far richer than you did before! I went with Cooper Sharp/wit', my son got a cooper sharp/without, and my other son and daughter got cheeseburgers. Gooey Looie's is tucked inside of a little area that looks like a mix of apartments and commercial rental units, but from nearly all sides except the parking lot it looks like a bunch of nothing. When we finally found this one we were very happy and excited to check it out. This is not your typical tourist trap location with a ton of lights and lines down the block. There were a few guys playing touchscreen gambling games and a few employees and that was that. It was...wonderful. When taking this steak in my hands it was like someone gave me a dumbbell. Very heavy steak sandwich and you could smell it through the bag. This was a more finely chopped steak than some in the area, depending on what you like that's either a good or bad thing. For me personally, I like both styles so I was happy one way or another. There was a ton of cheese on this steak to match the ton of meat. The bread was very solid, not ripping or falling apart at all. The onions were a small dice (which I love) and were cooked perfectly. All in all this was a really solid sandwich. I can't speak about the burgers but both my son and daughter said they enjoyed them. In the ballpark of $30 for two steaks and two burgers, great price in my opinion. This goes without saying...Gooey Looie's in Philly - Didn't Suck! provolone, sweet peppers, mayo, extra ketchup. yum!

Not the best cheesesteak by any means, but still good. I thoroughly enjoyed it but don't think I'd go back again cuz there are better places not too far. I appreciated that they had sweet peppers, and I'm pretty sure this is the only place that ever actually gave me extra ketchup when I asked for it. Ketchup galore and that was perfect. A bit messy - gooey, you might say - as it should be. But yeah don't come here thinking you're getting the definitive experience, and bring cash or be ready to pay the ATM fee. Funny cute little shop. Annoying that map apps don't seem to understand where the location is as it lead us down the tiniest little alley behind the shop instead of into the parking lot.

    Hmmmmhmmmm.

Now that I'm working in South Philly it's given me a chance to explore the food scene here because it's not a part of town that I have ever frequented. So when a hoagie craving hit I was overwhelmingly directed to Gooey Looie's and so glad I was. My last hoagie was an epic fail (see my last weeks review of Fairmount Grill), this on the other hand was major redemption. I went with corned beef hoping and praying it would be lean, thinly cut and savory and it was. The sheer volume of meat was pure delight and I devoured that sandwich. Can't wait to try the Jewish Deluxe, Italian and Turkey. I really wish they would add chicken cheese steaks to their menu.

The established is the heart of South Philly. The Cheese steak is Gooey & flavorful. If you ever find yourself in a predicament - do yourself a favor and head to Gooey Looie's

Most cheesesteaks have such bland meat so this did it right - Cheese: melty coopers cheese was perfectly mixed in. - Onions: just the right soloing if grilled onions mixed in to complement the meat but not overwhelm it. - Size: monstrous! Lowlights: - Waits can be long and brutal in heat. We got lucky with a shorter line. - No seating: just an ordering counter inside so many are eating out on the sidewalk.

3.5 stars. Sorry,…read moreguys, this is another WAY overdue review from my 2015 visit before the name change from TONY LUKE'S. Took a short day trip to Philadelphia on Sunday, June 14, and had to try for the first time an authentic Philly cheesesteak sandwich. When in Rome, right? My cousin and family took me here, the original location of TONY LUKE'S, a mainstay for cheesesteaks in South Philly. The street-side sandwich shoppe had a a classic, no-frills neighbourhood stand vibe, featuring walk-up windows for counter-service. The dining room was a weather-protected, four-wall area with outdoor picnic tables. Tony Luke's covered a broad array of Old Philly Style Sandwiches from Roast Beef ($7.25 - $10.25) to Roast Pork ($7.00 - $9.00), Chicken Cutlet ($7.25 - $10.25), Rib-eye Steak ($7.75 - $9.75), Chicken Steak ($7.25 - $9.25), Hoagies ($7.25 - $9.00) to Specialty Sandwiches ($6.00 - $8.00). They also offered Side Orders, Fresh Sautéed Vegetables, Breakfast and Beverages. Accustomed to being served Philly cheesesteak sandwiches with provolone, grilled onion and green peppers in California (which I love), I was surprised to learn that the traditional cheesesteak from Philadelphia is composed of only thinly shaved ribeye steak, griddled quickly, chopped, and topped with lots of cheese (Whiz or otherwise) served on a soft, crusty hoagie roll. We ordered a Cheese Steak ($8.75) as well as a Cheese Steak Hoagie ($9.75), both of which were tightly wrapped long rolls in Tony Luke's wax paper. They were OK, neither knocked my socks off, unfortunately. My search for a mind blowing cheesesteak will continue when I return to Philly.

The Original Pat's King of Steaks is located in South Philly, specifically in the Passyunk Square neighborhood. It sits at the intersection of East Passyunk, South 9th, and Wharton. The building has many different signs and lights that will let you know that you are in the correct place. Since this is in the city, parking can be somewhat tricky. There are times I have had to circle around, or get whomever I was with to drop me off and have them come back. However, sometimes I have secured street parking not too far away. This will just depend on the time of day, and really the luck of the draw, if you are able to easily locate parking. This is an outdoor stand, meaning there is no inside to enter. You will order at the counter, and food is packaged to-go. However, there are some tables surrounding the building that you can dine at. They are all under the roof overhang, so you will be somewhat protected from the elements. On this day, it was not terribly busy. I really did not have to wait in any kind of line before being able to place my order. This was around 4:00 on a Saturday in September. First, I took some time to look over the menu posted near the sidewalk. There is also a helpful guide on "how to order a steak," for those that are unfamiliar. When it was my first time here, I actually found the humorous display very helpful. I placed my order for two classic Cheesesteak Wit, made with Cheez Whiz. When ordering, you specify if you want Wit (with onion) or Wit-Out (no onion). Given that I was wanting to try the most authentic sandwich I could, I opted for the onions and the traditional Cheez Whiz. My sandwiches only took a minute or so to be ready. As stated, it was not busy, and they are able to whip up these sandwiches rather quickly. I ended up taking my sandwiches to-go, and having them for meals the next few days. They reheat well, and have good flavor. I like having the onions on it for an added texture. Pricing is not terrible. Pat's is more expensive than Geno's by $2 for the same sandwich. My total was $36 after tax for the two sandwiches, making them $18 each. You definitely are paying for the experience and the novelty that is coming to this famous corner of Philadelphia. But, this price is not out of the ballpark of other places in the area. The sandwich is a decent size, and you can definitely get two meals out of it if you are eating it by yourself. So, all that considering, it is a fair value for what you pay. It seemed like most menu items were $20 or under. FYI, they take both cash and card. The staff are quick and efficient. However, it will not be the most friendly or pleasant experience, especially if you do not know how to order. I am not saying that the experience was poor by any means, but be aware that this is not Disney World and they will not be overly kind to you at the order window. Being from Pittsburgh, I had never had a true Philadelphia Cheesesteak sandwich until a few years ago when I visited for the first time. Since that trip, I typically make it a point to stop and get a few sandwiches to take back home with me. I enjoy coming to Pat's for the atmosphere, and the true taste of Philadelphia. I recommend giving it a try at least once, just to say you have had it. Plus, the sandwiches are pretty tasty, too. I will definitely be back here on future trips to South Philly.
