"Well done" french fries
Deidre B.

I ordered a cornbeef sandwich and fries.....I asked for the fries to be well done and look what they sent me. Is this how you treat your customers? MY order was over $43!!!!! This is unacceptable......I wouldn't feed these to my dog

Random TooGoodToGo Chocolate pineapple cake- 3 slices

A deli with a mini-restaurant reminiscent of Little Pete's "hiding" right around the downtown area. It was fun to try this TooGoodToGo but the random dessert I got was probably not representative of this place nor did it need to be. Staff here is friendly. Cake was fine but it probably wouldn't knock most people's socks off.

Corned beef wrap.

I walked past Schlesinger's so many times when I'm in Philly, so I thought I'd give it a try. Let me start by saying it was a perfectly fine lunch, I ate everything, and I'm full. But my overall impression is bland. I had a corned beef wrap with cole slaw and ranch dressing. Probably the highlight of my lunch, but it was a little dry, I think they forgot the dressing. Potato salad, again bland. And my preference is for egg and mustard. This was close to cold mashed potatoes. The pickle was the surprising disappointment for a deli, if it was dill it was super subtle. So bland a cucumber would have been better. I decided to order a chocolate chip cookie and was surprised to find it wasn't freshly made in-house. Reading Terminal is where I should have gone!

On the right are pieces of fat from HALF the sandwich!!

Beware!! They hide random pieces of fat in their corned beef sandwiches. Well that was disappointing (horrible). Got corned beef sandwich's and it was actually LOADED. with fat. I mean there were actually pieces of pure fat hidden in between slices of meat. Not attached to the meat I mean loose fat that it looked like was hidden inside. I guess they don't expect you to look there. Picture says a 1000000 words. See the fat on HALF A SADWIVH. WEIGHT 1 oz. . If this is their business practice I would say stay away ..

Doris Reuben

This was my first time back in a very long time. My dad and I stopped by before seeing a show at the Kimmel. It was very empty, so service was fast. Very clean and spacious inside. I ordered the cabbage soup and the Doris Reuben sandwich. I chose fruit as my side. If you want fries, it's a $1 extra and latkes were additional $2. The sandwich was hefty, juicy, filling and absolutely delicious. Unfortunately, since covid they removed the pickle bar. So we only got one pickle included in the meal. The cabbage soup was interesting and not something I'd reorder. I was picturing a clear cabbage soup, but instead it was a very sweet tomato based soup. I'm not entirely sure what the broth was but it reminded me of the sauce from baked beans with tomatoes. Way too sweet that I couldn't finish. Asked for a take out box since I couldn't finish my sandwich. I appreciate that they also provided plastic bags in each container. I will definitely return here again!

Matzo ball soup

What's with the bad reviews? The food here is great! I came in on a Friday morning to pick up some lunch and the service was perfectly friendly and quick, no issues at all. I ordered two reubens, one with pastrami and one with turkey, and the matzo ball soup. The reubens were super tasty and came with a side each, for which I chose coleslaw and potato salad. The coleslaw was delicious! And the matzo ball soup was soul-warming and loaded with juicy chicken pieces. I found a couple of small bones in it, too, but more flavor, I guess! It's an old school spot with a typical deli look and feel. I'll definitely be back for more soup!

I went here as part of a filming session and got to have The North American. Simple, easy deli food, and a good brisket & gravy. Best part is the potato pancakes inside! They treat you well here, and you'll leave well-fed and enjoy it too! Deserts are a treat too, well curated I would say. Shoutouts to Diamond for helping make that choice!

Nice authentic little Jewish deli in center city. One of the last of its kind. Had the corned beef and a black and white cookie.

I went to Middle Child a few weeks ago just after 3, only to find it closes at 3. Today I returned, around 1, and there was a good crowd there having lunch. I ordered the Surfer, and the Hash Brown Potatoes. The Surfer is Middle Child's most popular sandwich. It's made on a Ciabatta bun, and has a thick layering of tender, lean, House Turkey breast, with melty Swiss cheese, arugula, blueberry chutney, and Duke's mayo. It's hard to describe just how delicious this sandwich was. My biggest concern was the Ciabatta bun - it's not one of my favorites, as I've found them to be tough and difficult to bite through. My fears were quickly put to rest after the first bite! The bun had a slightly crispy exterior - and when I followed through with my first bite, the tender, soft interior of the Ciabatta was a pleasant surprise. In fact, it complemented the thick savory Turkey, arugula, chutney and mayo! It was one of the best Turkey sandwiches I've had. Now, if that wasn't enough, don't forget, I ordered the Hash Brown Potatoes. It said Hash Browns on the blackboard, see attached picture, but these 'weren't your Mama's hash browns'! They are described online as Latka'd Hash Browns. They are thick crispy squares that combine a potato pancake latke with a hash brown texture. The interior reminded me of my mother's potato kugel, which I still reminisce about. In one word, those fried crispy potato squares were outstanding. It's 'a must try' and goes so well with the Surfer! Last, but not least, the Limeade! It was so refreshing! Not too tart, not too sweet... just right! I'll be returning to Middle Child in the not too distant future!

The legendary best sandwich in Philadelphia! Having it first thing in the morning was pure bliss…read more The Hershel: Recommended by the staff. The corned beef was an enticing vibrant pink, tender and juicy, with a perfectly balanced and pure saltiness that accentuated the beef's natural flavor. The scrambled eggs were incredibly smooth and creamy, complemented by the rich, melted cooper sharp cheese. The rye was toasted with butter, giving it a thin, crispy crust and a soft interior--a bit softer than Hershel's East Side Deli's, fragrant but not greasy. Every part was delicious, and the combination was harmonious and delightful. The portion of ingredients was very generous, definitely worth the $14.50 price. The service was a little slow, but the moment you tasted it, you would forgive everything!

I had the turkey on wheat with American cheese. I opted for the Russian dressing since I'm not a fan of hot deli mustard. I had it toasted panini style. The service was quick, friendly and you could tell they took pride in what they were doing. My wife opted for the pastrami on wheat with may and provolone cheese, also panini style. She had potato salad as a side and the coleslaw. Both were good. The Marketplace is a very large (formerly Penn Station) turned open market area covering food, produce, meat market, flowers, artisans etc. A wonderful place. We originally ordered just one sandwich to share, but it was so good that we ended up going back for another one. The pastrami was flavorful, tender, and packed generously into the sandwich. We also got lucky because there weren't too many people when we arrived, so we were able to grab seats right at the counter and enjoy everything fresh. Highly recommended if you're visiting Reading Market, definitely one of the standout food spots there.

They serve you fresh waster (Drinks to order include Hanks, Boylan's, Harney and Sons, Teas etc.) and will serve you at the table or you can walk up and order at the counter. Their menu has a great mix of deli, steak, "chicken" steak, meatball, sausage and cutlet sandwiches with interesting flavor combos. You can also get breakfast (till 11AM) or a salad. They also have sides that include - tots, fried pickle chips, onion rings, fries, fried mozzarella and Zayda's pickle spears, chips and cherry pepper shooters. They have a couple of vegan options and GF rolls for extra $$. The staff was more than happy to give recommendations and their favs. My first lunch was The Eye - $15 Ribeye steak, Cooper Sharp American, fried onions came on a seeded Liscio's roll. If you enjoy the somewhat newer Cooper sharp style that's out there you'll like theirs. The Cooper sharp was gooey, mixed in well with the meat and on the heavier side. The ribeye was thin cut, delicious and the portion was pretty hefty. Second visit I went with - The Nad - $15 Chicken cutlet, fresh mozzarella, prosciutto, arugula, Mike's Hot Honey that came on an unseeded Liscio's roll. The portion size was good, chicken was fresh with good breading, the hot honey was a tad on the heavy side, but the flavors all came together pretty good on this one. Sweet, salty, light bitterness from the arugula and some heat from the hot honey. I added Thin Cut Idaho fries to make it a combo for $3 extra and I have to say they were delicious. They smelled like McD's and tasted similar. They are cash only, but have an ATM on site. You can use a card if you order online. The one bathroom they have was pretty clean and organized. I will certainly stop back for a visit if I'm in the area to try out more of their menu. Thanks guys!

This is far from the traditional banh mi, not so much due to the meat choice but the fact that the vegetables take a back seat. This is also a soft hoagie style bread instead of the crusty French bread that usually houses a banh mi. Still an enjoyable sandwich nonetheless. To my surprise, the fried potatoes were the highlight of this meal. Tender crispy fried potatoes are simply irresistible. Stockyard definitely has a lot going for it.
