Lee Design and Interiors came highly recommended by a friend of my wife's family. We decided to use them for remodeling my mother in law's basement. The work cost well over 30K and what we received was extremely poor workmanship and shoddy finishes. I have built out two offices from the ground up and even though i have a limited understanding of construction its still far more than the average person. What Mr. Lee wanted to pass off as exceptional work was simply awful. We took photos and even had another contractor look into the work Lee Design and his subcontractors did and he shook his head and could not quite understand how anyone could let this go as completed work. I am not even going to post photos because its a waste of time. Our concerns were passed to Mr. Lee the owner and he sent relatives to complete the work over weekends. Just simply not acceptable. I contacted Lee Design almost immediately after moving in to my DC apartment. I presented them the opportunity to do a lot of different work and furniture touches. They accepted. This included re-doing the bathroom, kitchen and upstairs loft carpet. They also replaced the light fixtures, painted and sold me higher-end dining room table, chairs, rug, couch, pillows and a lamp. Not everything was a disaster and/or a disappointment, but a lot of it was. I'll start with some positives. The interior pieces, although pretty expensive, was pretty good. The rug, glass table and general color schemes were nice (as a then-bachelor, I needed help with the colors). The light fixtures all look great, especially the one we chose for the kitchen. The kitchen appliances are great, although I should have been consulted on the size of the sink because it's small -- I make due, but feel like it was a decision made for me. The four upholstered chairs are horribly crafted. They all wobbled after a month due to poor craftsmanship. I have to get new ones now that I have a family because I'm afraid someone will get hurt. The paint job looks fine...BUT if you so much as bump a wall it leaves a big greasy mark. I like the look and color, but I need to repaint after only 1 year. Also, during the painting process, they painted most of the windows shut and didn't use painter's tape around edges of the trim (really rookie mistakes). I still find paint drips and random things painted over/shut. Changing the filter for my air conditioning system meant having to pry open the grate and crack a lot of the of the paint job into an unsightly mess. The bathroom was redone without a thought to wear one gets their toilet paper. I installed my own later, but I was dumbfounded that they would replace the tiled walls (that included a normal dispenser port) without a solution for the first time one would sit on the throne in their "new and improved" bathroom. The shower is fine, but there was no discussion on the fixture -- they look great but you can't regulate the amount of water that comes out. It's either hot/warm with a lot of flow or cool/cold with low flow. The shower stream also splashes onto the newly installed walls and, as a result, the paint is now bubbled and I'm worried the wall is going to rot. The kitchen appliances look great. The installation of the stove was half-thought out, so it sticks out quite a bit because of the gas nozzle. They didn't work out a solution to do some backsplash tiling around it or otherwise try to adapt to this unforeseen issue. The backsplash is generally fine, but I still find some incomplete silicon edges, globs of silicon, etc. that you don't expect from professionals. I do project management for a living, so I think I know what I'm talking about with work planning, but my standards are not overly lofty. I will sacrifice pretty organization for a good end result. But, this was often a combination of incomplete planning and poor performance as a result. Moments of good work were mixed with mediocre to shoddy work. I was always left having to point out the bad because they would try to concentrate on the good. So, they leave the customer feeling like he's the jerk for asking for what he paid for. Days, weeks, and MONTHS would pass between stages of the project and/or communication on the next stage. Excuses were the norm. A week for a sick friend; a few weeks for an unexpected landlord situation at their office; unavailable workers; things on order; always something and I was always left feeling bad I even asked. My last communication was to ask them to come back and repair fixtures on my blinds that were broken during the painting process; and, to do a few touch ups to the painted over A/C grill. Someone was supposed to come over in a few weeks after their August vacation. Then, when I followed-up the second or third time, I got an excuse and an explanation that they couldn't get anyone there soon because of Thanksgiving... I gave up after that. I just wanted to move on with my life. I waited over a year to review, because I wanted to gain perspective. I don't want to rail against some of the good work that was done and some good intentions that went into it. And, I'm sure some of the excuses were legit. And, I'm sure during the process a corner or two needed to be cut in order to come in under/at budget. When things ultimately went over, they didn't charge me for the bit remaining. I would have fought them if they had, but they willingly acknowledged that things had taken a year to complete and had not gone smoothly. I'm hoping this can be constructive criticism in the end. 2 stars for some of the efforts and always being nice on the phone. If there is a 0 star, we would choose a 0 star. For people out there, please do not do any jobs for Lee design and Interiors. We worked at Magnolia Bldg hallways to install new carpets for the entire bldg seven months ago. Lee design was the general contractor for this job. We were hired by Lee design to do the job. The job was completed, and they were happy and satisfied. When it is time to pay, they ask for a discount and they were granted. When we ask for payment again, they always have an excuse not to pay for it. They never picked their phone and never return any of our calls. We have repeatedly tried calling them. It is extremely difficult to get or talk to a human being. At this point, we are forced to go through legal system to collect our severely overdue invoices. They are scammers! They will talk to you nice and professional but once the job is done, they are like a GHOST! Please do not deal with Lee design and Interiors. read more

Stay away from this place! This is my first Yelp review. My hope was to write a positive review but my experience doesn't warrant that. I strongly believe in honest review - both positive and negative. I don't want to go into details but simply put the company lacks (a) proper planning and (b) attention to detail, which are very important factors in any interior design work. Based on my experience, I would never recommend this place to anyone. I hope this helps other readers who deserve honest opinion. I also believe the company deserves to have honest feedback. I hope the company will take this constructive review and improve in its undertaking of future projects. If they can't handle this fair negative review, then that's their problem, not mine, and it speaks volumes about their ability to run a sustainable, successful and fair business. How do I start well I did a job for this company. I was contacted by Francisco who apparently was hire by Ms.Lee. I was hire to finish a punch list nothing hard but just tedious and time consuming. I gave Francisco my price of $1400.00 a level. I sent two painters 07/25/19 and 7/26/19. Ms.Lee was blowing up my phone during the day keep in mind Francisco hire me and he was hire by her. I was being polite and trying to just get the job done. I met all her needs as when she requested 4 painters the following day and I sent 5. On the second day I called Ms.Lee and told her Francisco had not provided me anything in paper of us getting paid she told me not to worry about it that she does not do anyone wrong. Well I told her I need something in writing from you and I wont be sending more painters until done. She asked me what was the price agreed I told her $1400 but that I think it should be $1800.00 she told me she thought a fair price would be $1500.00. I told her to get me something in writing. As of now I still haven't gotten paid and Ms.Lee son called me and told he will be pay $1400.00 for 63 hours we did. I told him I don't accept that price because we are a company and we value our work at $40.00 an hour. He said that painters make between $15-$20 an hour I told him he is correct but what I pay my painters has nothing to do with what he pays us. At the end of the day this people got free work from us and they do not want to pay. He offer me $1750.00 I do not know how he does business but negotiating is one thing but once a price is agreed its agreed. Negotiating is also done reasonable and not demanding or stating how much they will pay us. I will never allow anyone to tell me how much to value my work yes I can take advice but someone telling how much to charge is crazy. read more

This is for their moving sale only--I visited when they were in transition to another location and had less merchandise on display. I found a great console that normally retails for about six times more!!! Goooooal! I didn't plan to stop in, but one of the shop's really friendly staff members told me about the great sale as I passed by. I had to take a peek. The owner, whom I spoke to over the phone, then met when I picked up the item later in the week, was friendly as well, and flexible about my need to pick up the purchase at a time when the business would normally be closed. read more

I recently got my entire house and garage painted by Lee Design & Interiors. They were very accommodating to my schedule and very responsive to any concerns that I had. Both Barbara and Josh were great to work with. They were very knowledgable with anything you want done to your house. From paint colors to what furniture goes well with what etc.. For some reason I thought this place was only interior design, but as I was walking by today I noticed that they have a lot of things for sale as well. It is a well curated collection of items, and I am really happy to have found it! While I was there I started talking to the owner about interior design and she showed me some photos of different projects they have done. One word: impressive. The retail store downstairs has a wonderful variety of merchandise that is sure to fit in any home. The modern style and beautiful colors brighten my day each time I visit! The design firm does incredible work and the owners and designers take time to meet with their clients and get to know their style and the space that is being built or designed. Remodel contract disappointment. I had never worked with a "designer" before and this was my first home ever. We provided 5 weeks before our deadline of moving in - 3 weeks later we were shown what products were chosen - no options whatsoever for me to choose. Up against a deadline, we felt compelled to see it through and we were assured the work would get done prior to our move-in. The closets were not completed per the drawings proposed, the wrong type bathtub and shower fixture were installed, no built-in shower shelf, our kitchen cabinet interior re-do equaled one replaced shelf - not the lazy susan, easy-access in all lower cabinets that was promised. Contractors displayed unprofessional skills (used my personal belongings; installed shower door backward) and were in our home the evening we moved in and were still not done. I had paint spatters on fixtures, walls and baseboards. I asked for some ideas on how to maximize my living room space to make it nice but comfortable - I was provided a two-dimensional drawing with a few items pulled from the pictures I provided. Lee Designs never followed up or even called to ask if we were satisfied with the work. Considering I spent my life's savings, it was a regrettable experience. read more
