It was a 3-1/2 month project, start to finish, and Heartland made every step an easy one. From the design process with Nick Clapes and Molly Holland, who both had wonderful and tasteful ideas that we just loved, to the demolition and new construction with our great project manager, Marty Fletcher (who took over seamlessly when our original PM left Heartland). All in all, it was a huge project, but every little bump in the road was handled quickly and efficiently (and there will always be bumps in the road!). Communication throughout the project was also excellent. We always knew exactly where we were at and kept informed about everything. And I'd be remiss if I didn't thank everyone who worked on our project: Carpenters - Hugo, Yerko, Nestor, Ady, and Carlos Electricians - Rudy and his crew Plumber - Gerson and his crew Drywall and Painters - Sual and his crew Tile - David Flooring - Alex and his crew You all were so helpful, so professional, and so friendly (especially dealing with our overly-friendly dog, Chiara!), and we are so appreciative of all of your hard work on our behalf! I provided a picture of the color scheme and the solid hardwood floors that I desired. The hardwood floors were a line item in the contract. I also sent an email of the type of solid hardwood floors that I would like from Home Depot to the Project Manager. This company pulled a bait and switch and installed fake hardwood floors when I paid for real hardwood floors. The Project Manager sent me an email stating it was an "oversight". I requested a refund of $6,000; I paid over $15,000 for flooring labor and allowance throughout my house. The company responded, stating that I have a beautiful home and to go and enjoy it. So, after saying it was an "oversight" they failed to take ANY corrective action for this deception. Buyer beware!

He said that he couldn't give me a picture of what the finished design would look like and that I would have to drive to the office to see that because I could take the design to other contractors. I just don't think this is a nice way to talk to potential customers. I told him that previous contractors had sent pictures, and asked him to even send a picture pencil/ paper just to show me where things would be and such. I honestly don't understand why that was a problem. He said that other contractors would not send me designs with projects (aka calling me liar). I asked for a manager I was told there was no one. I called later and asked to speak with a manager and I was told that there wasn't one and he wasn't authorized to even tell me the name of the manager. Hopefully this saves someone from leaving work early to meet with Russell who won't give you an idea of the finished project until you drive to their office which is definitely some type of sales tactic. Really disappointed in these guys.

I fired this company. Based on my experience, I cannot ever recommend them…read more One of my biggest concerns involved the flooring. The understanding was that the existing wood flooring would be removed so the new tile assembly would be installed over the subfloor. Instead, the existing wood floor remained in place and cement backer board and tile were installed over it. When I questioned this, I was told it was installed on the subfloor, this is not true. Then they told me that the original hardwood floor was the subfloor, this is also not true. I also experienced multiple issues with the tile installation. A cracked tile was installed even though I had replacement tiles available. When I raised the issue, they blamed me for not physically handing the installer the tiles because they didnt know where they were located. Which is ridiculous considering they were installing the tiles and know exactly where they are located. Later, additional tiles were damaged with a large circular cut that required further replacement. The checkerboard tile pattern was also installed incorrectly during part of the project. The wallpaper installation was another major concern. The wallpaper pattern was not aligned between panels. After I pointed this out, I was told the installers were not experienced with wallpaper installation and normally performed other types of work. The wallpaper was eventually removed, but I was informed that I would need to purchase replacement wallpaper because the original material had been discarded. They dumped their bucket of materials into my garden, caught on my security camera. During the entire process, I repeatably dismissed by rude workers and disappointed by what I viewed as repeated workmanship issues, poor communication, and a lack of accountability when I raised concerns. After I informed the company that I wished to end the project, the work area was left with construction debris and dust that I had to clean myself. They left all of the demo garbage in my garage and in my garden. If you meet either Gal, Tal (Tyler) or Priscilla Winters, I would personally recommend to run away. This review reflects my personal experience with this project.

A few days later, his workers showed up, unannounced, asking what they needed to do. I told them I have no idea, and my husband is not home, and to coordinate a time with him. A few days later (on a Sunday), they showed up unannounced again! My husband was out again! They asked me to pick a paint color and I asked if that is included in the price we were quoted and they said they didn't know. As I was trying to figure that out, it came out that they don't think repairing the stairs is a good idea and they can't even guarantee they won't break again for even 3 days. I asked if it would be a lot more expensive to redo the whole thing and they said it would be exponentially more expensive. I told them we'll talk to Alex and get back to them. 30 minutes later, Alex calls my husband screaming at him! He told him that we shouldn't ask his contractors about prices and that he doesn't work that way and that we should find someone else to work with and hung up the phone on my husband! He was literally screaming at my husband on the phone. And then hung up on him. There are so many issues with our experience starting with the fact that the workers kept showing up without prior notice and asking a lot of questions as if they didn't know what they were supposed to be doing. And then of course the fact that he was trying to scam us into doing something that he knew might not even last the week. And then finally, calling my husband and screaming at him and hanging up on him because his workers were asking us a lot of questions?! It's just been an atrocious experience. I recommend avoiding him at all costs. UPDATE: Alex is now threatening my husband over text messages because of our review. We are just stating facts. He said we are inappropriate to contact him on a Sunday when it was his contractors who showed up at our doorstep, unannounced, on a Sunday, and we were just calling to clear things up with him because they had no idea what they were supposed to do and were asking me a lot of questions. He also accused us of trying to strike a deal with his subcontractors, something that didn't cross our minds for one second. We were just trying to figure out if the paint his contractors were making me choose was included in the estimate he provided us.

I hired this company to redo a shower stall. Because they were already going to be doing concrete…read morework in the shower stall, I pointed out two, small, hand-sized areas of concrete that needed patching on my balcony. The owner Chris, said he would not charge me because it was negligible. I was happy that they were a good faith company who wouldn't nickel and dime me. Boy, I turned out to be wrong on that! Their work in the shower was just alright. It required a second pass to fix some lines that were not quite straight and they offered to fix it. The shower was substantially less work than initially scoped. The estimate was for a much larger job than needed to be done to fix the shower. I expected to get a discount on the initial estimate. Chris discounted me $200. I agree to pay him the full estimate minus $200 for services not rendered in the initial estimate. After the job is complete, Chris suddenly springs me with an additional charge of $100. He wants to charge me for the balcony patches, which were two child's hand-sized areas. This was quite irritating because not only did they not have to do as much of a job on the shower as they initially thought, but he was going to flip-flop on his initial word that he wouldn't charge me for patching the balcony concrete. He began harassing me via e-mail, using adjectives like "ridiculous" and questioning my character. This was extremely unprofessional and uncalled for. Within a couple of emails he began threatening to take out a lien on my property. That sounded odd to me, like he was bullying and on an anger trip rather than negotiating like a regular contractor. A lien on my property for a dispute over $100? Sounded unreasonable. I would have gladly paid the $100 if he had been honest with the charge up-front, or if he had sent me a change order in writing saying that the balcony patching would take more effort and he wanted to charge for the balcony. It was neither. The patches were tiny and he did much less work in the shower than he initially expected to have to do. It seemed like he was extorting me for additional money after the work was complete because he felt he could get away with threatening me, or because he didn't really like the fact that he had to do a second pass on the shower floor to get it right. I began talking to my condo building manager about this contractor. I learned that he fired one of his workers who was known for doing outstanding work on bathrooms, then threatened him physically if he ever worked on remodeling any of our building units. In short, this guy is trouble. Like the other reviewer also noted, he changes price quotes in the middle of a job or after the job is done, and gets nasty and short-tempered. There are a ton of contractors out there, save yourself a headache.
