I honestly have never owned some leather shoes and when I got a hole on the bottom of my shoe I was a little upset because they were $200 shoes and I definitely wasn't going to spend that on another pair. A friend of mine told me to go to a shoe repair and I'm glad I did because for $50 I got new leather soles and they maintained the same comfort as before. My only knock for the business was that I was expecting a brown leather bottom like the original sole and instead I got a black leather bottom. Minor I know but I did love that contrast in my black shoe. I'd definitely return again. read more

Wow. I thought all of the other bad reviews were overly critical when I came on here to find the phone number of the place I had shoes repaired. I was wrong. He may have given good service at one time, but no more. Don't patronize this shoe repair shop, unless you expect crappy service. I had a pair of dress shoes re-soled and re-heeled here about a year ago. It was the second pair I had done there. Last week, I was wearing the shoes for probably about the 6th or 8th time since having them repaired. I mostly wear sandals or casual shoes, so my dress shoes don't get a great deal of use. Part way through the day, I felt the heel give way, and the entire sole of one of the shoes came loose from the shoe. I figured he would be happy to re-glue it for me, because it would be simple to do, and he would be able to see that they had hardly been worn by looking at the soles and heels. I went by during business hours on Saturday, and they were closed. So I called today to make sure they were open, and explained the situation. Instead of offering to fix them, he said "after one year, I can't do anything." I explained they had been worn less than 10 times since he did them. His response was to whine that he only makes $9 an hour, and I probably have a lot more money than him. He kept addressing me as "my friend" (infuriating). I explained again that it was a simple repair (glue) and that I was surprised he didn't stand by his work better than that. He again said "I can't do anything after a year." I said he was leaving me no choice but to add to the long list of horrible Yelp reviews he had, and he said as long as I told the truth, he didn't care, and said about six times that "God is good to him." So that IS the truth. And I find it to be deplorable service. If you don't stand behind your work any better than that, you don't deserve business, IMO. read more

Can I just say out of all of the show makers I've been to- East Coast to West- these guys need a three thumbs up if it existed! I have the skinniest calves in existence and never can wear cute knee high boots. Long story short- found a great pair for a great deal on suede boots and needed someone to take them in at the calf. Ana, who helped me- did the most AMAZING job. I've had this done on boots before back east and it didn't look so good and costed A LOT. She charged me a great price and did a great job!!! I went to Leather Magic after reading the great reviews on Yelp and I was not dissapointed. The bottom of the heel on my favorite pair of boots fell off, so I took it in to be fixed. Hugo told me to bring back the other boot so he could re-sole both of them, that way they would be even. It only cost $8 for me to re-heel BOTH boots. Great deal! The only problem I encountered was when I brought in a pair of shiny black boots to be fixed and when I went to pick them up, they gave me the wrong pair. In their defense, the boots they gave me looked VERY similar to mine ... but just make sure you double check your shoes before you leave the store! :) read more

Love this place. The people who work their are friendly and welcoming, the prices are reasonable and their turnaround is super quick. I've taken boots in to have the shank replaced when it broke and had several pairs of heels resoled and the entire thing was a breeze. I bring my shoes and boots here to be shined because the man does outstanding work for the price. It saves me so much time I have no problem at all paying the rate plus a tip. The reason I enjoy the work so much is simple. I like a good, uniform buff on my footwear. I cannot stand it when people spend all their time only polishing the toes so it looks like some shiny mirrored clown shoes. That's JV stuff. He's also pretty quick. This is a fantastic find! I have wide feet and regularly buy heels that I figure I can just "stretch out" myself. Instead, I brought in 3 pairs of heels to Hugo. When I came in a week later to pick them up, only one pair had been stretched enough, so he told me to take the shoes that fit home and that he would stretch them more. I tried to pay for the one pair, but he said not to pay until all of the shoes were fixed. It ended up costing me less than $20 so that I could finally wear my expensive Coach shoes and Jessica Simpson work shoes comfortably = worth every penny. Hugo offers wonderful customer service and I can't imagine ever going to another shoe repair store. read more

Phenomenal service. They really do try to fix any issues with your shoes. They go out of the way to make sure you are satisfied with their service and shoes. Why go anywhere else? I live downtown so I use to go to Rick's Shoe Repair. Their service has been horrendous. It's not worth it. After I heard that Neiman Marcus sends their shoes here for repairs, I knew they were definitely worth a try. I brought in a pair of Louboutin pumps I bought a while back to have a protective red sole put on the bottoms. I also brought in a pair of Louboutin booties that needed some TLC. While walking around downtown, there was the usual wear, the heel caps needed replacement, there was some torn leather on the heel, as well as scuffing of the red paint on the heel, allowing the natural color to show through. He gave me a hard time about how I was taking care of my shoes since it was obvious that the booties were misshapen and obviously never polished. It was done in the most jovial way and then he spent a great deal of time advising me on the right products and the right way to use them. I walked away with shape-keepers, some polish and more knowledge than I walked in there with. The quality of the work was outstanding, the sole perfectly applied, the booties looking good as new incl. touch-up paint! Highly, highly recommend. read more

Hugo is a true artist with shoes and leather, and he's really passionate about what he does too. An artisan of his caliber is tough to find. The cherry on top is that he's also reasonably priced. I've been very satisfied with the 5 boots and 2 pumps that I've taken to Leather Magic. The quality of work is superb, especially for the cost. Most of the repairs needed were new heel taps and renewing the leather. I also brought in a pair of boots that had slippery leather outsoles. Hugo added rubber to the bottom of each boot for traction and it did not make my expensive shoes look tacky. After seeing the workmanship on my shoes, I decided to bring in my beautiful mustard-colored purse purchased in Paris (a brand not sold in the US) that had been ruined by jean dye rubbing off (always wash your jeans before first wear!). Hugo was looking for the perfect shade to re-dye my leather purse. It took a few weeks longer than anticipated but it was well worth the wait to see the final product. I'm impressed that Hugo didn't settle for just any dye. I do wish he called with progress on purse to save me 2 unproductive trips to the shop. Hugo will be my cobbler of choice in SD. read more

Great place, great service, really nice, friendly owner. Brought a very special purse in to be fixed and it came out perfectly. Also had a pair of boots stretched and re-stitched, and he was a little on the conservative side so they weren't stretched enough, so he is redoing them now but I don't mind the redo and appreciate that he didn't stretch the hell out of them like another place did to me. I get my shoes modified and fixed here, they do a good/great job with what I bring in. I'm happy, I've been going here since the late 1990's. Very convenient location. As for inconsistent reviews of many people, that's life. Show some personality with them, form the beginning. Build a rapport. As for finish times of repair, it's best to call in before coming,... it can be inconsistent due to the nature of the business getting frequent daily customers. Check with them about your shoes each week if it's "taking time". Again, build a rapport. If you have complaints, ask yourself "why aren't I the local shoe repair person?" read more

Bad work........ The worst cold, mean service and they do a tacky trashy job brought a purses to havr a new Loop's put on to hold the chain so I could use the purse, they missed size them , didn't finish off the work and it look like some little kid did it that didn't know what he was doing and every time of come into this place they do a trashy job so maybe the only thing they do that's good is maybe replace small easy heels and maybe that's why they have people giving them more than one star but if people know how to give reviews and they know how to judge service then they know that this place could care less about the consumer they just want lots of business they want to rip off the customers and not much more than that, the only reviews that you should trust on here are ones from people who are truly honest to know what the difference between good quality work and poor quality read more

This man is a true craftsman and really knows his stuff. I first encountered him several years ago when I brought him a pair of expensive boots that someone else had "fixed" by driving a nail through. That nail was causing pain. He immediately pulled it out, and then fixed the boot properly. Didn't even charge me-said it only took him a minute to fix their mistake. I've been taking all my stuff to him ever since. He will honestly tell me if something is not worth fixing, like if it will tear again or break again. He has resurfaced the bottoms of a couple of pairs of high heels for me, and put new heel caps on, and repaired purses, and cleaned, and even dyed my Frye boots that were pearl grey (I know, what was I thinking!) and got stains on them. You gotta go see this guy if you love your shoes like I do! read more

My friend recommended a place that was closer to my house but they were closed for a vacation. Not wanting to give I hope, I found THE ONE shoe repair store that was open past three on a Saturday. I just took my favorite back pack in for repair. It was beautifully done in 3 days over a weekend. The other side was reinforced symmetrically. The price was very fair. When I arrived to drop off the owner was discouraging a customer from buy shoe inserts from him, saying she really needed to go to a shoe store and get some better walking shoes. He gave her names of some brands and some local stores with obvious knowledge and empathy. It is so nice to find a craftsman who takes pride in his work and pleasure in helping his customers. There was a small trickle of business each time I was there. I hope enough to keep them busy in this location at Von's shopping center. read more

I have been coming to this place since finding it on Yelp. The reviews were good, so I figured I'd take in my 3 pairs of shoes I've been meaning to fix -- if even, they were fixable at all. One was a pair of pumps I had bought in Italy (that my lovely little puppy took a liking to and had chewed off the tip of the toe as well as the heel), another were my trusty and comfy work heels (again.. a favorite of my puppy), and the last pair were my favorite wedges which were coming apart in the middle. I walked in and was greeted by the owner. He was warm and friendly. He described in detail what his plan was to restore my shoes. After sharing a few laughs, he told me my shoes would be ready in two days. All in all, the prices were fair, the service was speedy, and my shoes are now as good as new :) I would recommend Leather Magic to anyone. read more

I came into this business with a very expensive pair of Louboutin shoes. I wanted to have red soles put on the bottom before wearing these shoes, to maintain the tips and increase the life of the shoes because they are so expensive. Of course, since they were never worn Christian Louboutin's , I was hesitant handing them over to Leather Magic , a shoe repair shop I've never used. I'm glad I asked a couple questions because the man, who I believe owns the shop, was rude and abrupt. He said, "What are you afraid of?" in a demeaning manner (this is after asking him if he repaired many Louboutin's with the red protective soles. What a crazy question to ask!!). I told him I was leaving, and promptly went to Gilbert's in Hillcrest to have the red soles put on the bottom of my brand new shoes. It may cost a fortune at Gilbert's but the guy does do an excellent job and has always treated me with respect. Can't say the same about the owner of Leather Magic. read more

Took a shoe in to see if it could be repaired and the guy behind the counter told me it couldn't because I "left it sitting in the closet too long." I guess this was supposed to be a joke? In any case it wasn't funny, he didn't elaborate or provide any further information, and I left knowing nothing more than when I entered, so thanks for nothing. I took it the shoe to another shop where they explained it couldn't be repaired because of the method of manufacture, pointed out the problem, and further offered that other customers with similar problems had successfully contacted the manufacturer for replacement--advice which was much more helpful. (They didn't say anything about leaving it sitting in the closet.) I won't be returning to Leather Magic, as when I need professional assistance I'm not looking for a wannabe comedian. read more
