horrible place, make sure to read all negative reviews because this truly is a horrible place to take anything, to be fixed, ajusted, ect. they do a TACKY JOB, if you decide to go there watch how cold, and rude the owners are to every customer ...we need more competent shoe repair places in san diego...this one has to be in the running gor the WORST WORST WORST. the last time I went in to pick up my purse that was being ajusted, the owner rude guy said, no, it was not there, it could not be found, his wife found it in one minute, if I took his advice I would have never seen my rare expensive purse again, when I saw what they did to it, I was shocked what a tacky job they did. if anyone writes a positive review on this place, DONT TRUST IT.no way, don't waste your time and money on this disgusting place. read more

I'm so sad to write this review. I have been coming here for years and used to get such good service and work done. The last 3 or 4 times I have come have been poor experiences. I would call to double check shoes were ready before driving over, only to find they weren't ready. Most recently, I tried to get boots repaired. I called to make sure they were ready as usual, double checked that they were both fixed and polished, and headed over. When I arrived, only one boot was fixed and they were not polished. How does a shoe repair place only fix one in a pair? She was rude about it, didn't apologize and told me it would be another week because others were ahead of me. Hugo does beautiful work. I am surprised that he only has 4 stars. What he does is artwork. I understand some people may have a hard time with the business since it takes a few days and he can't turn around shoes in a day. Well, you don't walk into an artist's loft and tell him or her he is painting a masterpiece too slow. My 1st pair of shoes I brought to Hugo were my Louboutin's to have a protective coating on the bottom and that was the beginning our relationship! Since them he has buffed, cleaned, shinned or soled at least 20 pairs and each one is a 5 star rating!!! read more

awful customer service. Went here on a Tuesday morning because of a tear in my shoe and I could tell from the start this guy did not want my business. First thing he said was take it back to the place you bought it from. Interesting. Then he tells me if I leave the sneaker with him it will take 4 days. Really. For a half inch tear in a sneaker. Come on. Then here is the kicker. He walks to the back of his shop and he says come back. So I assume he meant for me to come back to where he was going. So I oblige and when I get to the back of his shop he yells at me "What are you doing." OK I misunderstood him what he meant was Come back at another time. He has patched a leather seat cushion for my couch and it looks great. He only charged me around $20 and that was to dye the leather patch and sew it on. I highly recommend this place !! read more

First time at Leather Magic and will be back again! My friend and I brought our brand new Louboutin's in to have non-skid soles attached and were very impressed with the results. We had gone to another shoe cobbler that morning and were not happy with the color of the sole, nor did he have any samples of his work. Detemined to perserve our heels we headed to Neiman Marcus to ask if they can recommend any place. To our dismay we were told once the red sole is gone it's gone... Decided to give Nordstrom a try to see if they have any recommendations and we were given Hugo's number and address. My friend and I decided it would not hurt to drive over. When we arrived not only did he show us the soles he uses but showed us a pair of Louboutin boots waiting to be picked up! They looked amazing!!!!!! Dropped them off on a Saturday and they were ready by Monday evening. It was only $25 for each pair and we are happy to walk in our heels knowing we will not slip and our soles will be red. read more

Brought in a high end pair of patent heels to be stretched just a bit at the toe. They took the shoes and said come back in 3 days. I did, and to my horror, the toe part of the heel had a crack running down the middle of it. They refused to acknowledge that they did it nor offer to replace. I will never bring another pair of shoes here again. Very disappointing. Avoid this place. read more

I took in three pairs of shoes for repair. one resole, one heal, one toe repair. This shop did a wonderful job and for a very fair price. The resole job was on a pair of Havana Joe shoes that are no longer made anymore. The resoled them and made them like new for $45. I found the same model on eBay for $299 on a buy it now. My wife was so impressed with the repairs on her two pairs of shoes. She also received the best compliment from a friend: Wow, where did you get those new shoes? They are awesome. read more

Great shoe repair shop in Sports Arena area- Hugo and Anna are super nice and Hugo is excellent at repair and maintenance. He really knows what he's doing. Back in NYC there were quite a few good shoe repair places so the competition brought the prices down. Here in SD, there doesn't seem to be that many businesses who do this kind of work so if the prices are higher its just what it is and for the quality of work this shop does, the price is absolutely fair. I've been to several repair shops, both in SD and in North County and I like Leather Magic best of all. They've taken care of 7 pairs of shoes/boots for me including some higher end items like Jimmy Choo and Stuart Weitzman shoes and I couldn't be happier with the work. Hugo also made a pair of 10+ year old shoes I had look brand new-I've had them worked on before and they never looked as good since the day I bought them. Plus they have adorable (Pekingese) dogs that I'm a total softie for. read more

Tried this place after reading Yelpers, and THANKS. After 20 years of going to American Show Repair downtown, I got fed up with the nasty new managment, skyrocketing prices, and poor service. Although this is a bit of a drive, I worked in Home Depot and Smoke Shop tasks to minimize the pain. Parking is a heck of a lot easier than ASR. As promised, Hugo was very friendly. He talked me into getting a full sole replaced instead of my usual half-sole because "these shoes are too good for half-soles." Funny, ASR never told me that. Interestingly, the price was less than ASR's half-sole. As far as I can tell, the quality is top notch. I may amend this if the sole separates in a month, but I doubt it. Price, service and quality leave me no choice but to give this 5 stars. I'm going to collect all my dingy old shoes and let Hugo go wild. read more

I used to go exclusively to Gary's up in Mission Hills, but since he closed his shop, I've been without quality shoe repair. So, based solely (no pun intended) on Yelp reviews, I decided to check out Leather Magic. So, this week I brought a pair of expensive heels in to have some new sole tips put on and to have the leather reconditioned and polished (they had gotten pretty wet in the rains recently and really needed some professional help). I picked them up today, and Leather Magic did a beautiful job. Really, really nice work... maybe even better than Gary's. I will absolutely use them again. PS - all done for under $9. read more

I asked my Girlfriend who she uses to make repairs to her shoes and she recommended Hugo. I took my western boots in to have the soles beefed up for better support, I told Hugo what I was seeking and he offered a very good suggestion based on his many years of experience. These boots were much pricier than I normally would buy for myself, so I was a little nervous of trusting just anyone with them. Hugo's work is beyond my expectations, the soles look like they came out of the factory. My boots look and feel great! I now would not trust anyone but him to do future repairs to my boots. I was incredibly impressed by Leather Magic, due to both the magic they worked on my shoes and their amazing customer service. I have been recommending them to all the fellow shoe fanatics that I know. I brought in 8 pairs of heels to be fixed, with various problems ranging from worn down heel taps to awful white scuffs (on silver shoes!) to loose buttons/ornaments. Hugo fixed 6 of the shoes in the time frame he gave me, for a very reasonable price. The remaining 2 were more of a challenge and took an additional week. However, because those 2 pairs took so long, he did not charge me a dime. read more

It is very very hard to find a cobbler these days. I am not sure there are many people who even recognize that trade anymore, but Hugo is running a fine business for people who care about their shoes. I buy good shoes and the soles always wear out before anything else. Hugo is the man to see to get them resoled or to fix any other problem you might have with your footwear.
