We wandered in the rain looking for a place to have a Sunday lunch without a lot of success before stumbling into this small restaurant. This place has a good menu du jour at 20€ for an entrée + plat, or plat + dessert, or 25€ for the 3 courses.
The restaurant itself is super narrow and a bit claustrophobic. We were unfortunately seated right by the door (and it was cold as people kept coming in and out the whole time) and the table was oddly positioned against this table of 4. In hindsight, I should have asked if I could have had another table. Most of the tables in here are for 2-4 people, so don't try to come here with more than 4 people, as you probably won't be able to get a space - this place is tiny.
Entrées:
- Avocado and Shrimp - This was okay, it was like an acidic avocado puree, with mayo and shrimp mixed in, and one shrimp cut in half on top. The avocado mixture was a bit too acidic for my taste - it was fine if I ate with bread, but I was expecting more of a chunkier, fresher avocado than a faux guacamole dip thing.
- Velouté de potimarron - This pumpkin cream soup was really good; it was creamy (all veloutés are since they are made with cream), but it had a good flavor, and there were little chopped up pieces of hazelnut at the bottom which gave it a nice texture and complemented the pumpkin taste well.
Plats:
- Salmon ravioli with anchovy foam - I was a little apprehensive ordering this since I don't really care for anchovies and thought this would be salty, but I actually really liked this dish. It was a tad salty from the anchovies, but not too much, and there was a decent amount of salmon in the ravioli. There were many 5 raviolis so not a ton of food in this dish, but it was enough.
- Magret de canard / Duck breast - My husband ordered this and he really loved it. The duck was cooked well and it came with a small side of potatoes au gratin. The serving size of the au gratin was small, but it was enough as it was really rich with the cream and the butter.
Dessert:
- We got the homemade profiteroles, which had 2 pieces of profiteroles, with vanilla ice cream, and a little jar of chocolate sauce to drizzle on top. The choux pastry of the profiteroles was fresh - it was crunchy and firm on the outside and soft on the inside. The dessert was simple, classic, and not too sweet and it was nice to be able to control the amount of chocolate sauce poured on top. We loved this dessert and we would recommend it!
Overall, if you come for the menu du jour during the daytime, this is a good deal; the quality of the food was great, as were the portions, for the price. I was also happy I didn't have to have a reservation to eat here, as I had gotten turned away 2 other times at some other small restaurants for brunch, right before finding this. If you're in the Vieux Ville, this is a good place to come for the menu du jour - they have the menu du midi (the lunch menu), and I believe they have a menu du jour for the evening that is 35€ for 3 courses, which is not too bad for a meal. read more
