This is an establishment of one of the finest culinary arts I've experienced. Although the dinning experience as a whole had its up and downs, the food more than made up for the lacking in service. Chef Tourteaux(s) control and expertise of spices and ultimately flavor is a true work of art. Every single dish played a song or a scene in my mouth. Everything came together as a wonderful story. Every dish is a must try. Timing and service is probably the only lacking factors (personal opinion) the meal did take 4 hours even though there were only 3 tables but the quality of the dishes was unmatched. Service was on the slow side. For example after we sat down there was a good 15 min before anyone attended to our table (we basically just sat there looking at each other). A Michelin two star restaurant on Rue Gubernatis in Nice is well worth the high price and the 4 hour dinner! The meal is over $300 per person with the wine pairings and long meal was perhaps a little tedious but fun. There were only 14 of us in the restaurant at 6 tables with only one wait person who was extremely knowledgeable and took time to describe everything you were eating and drinking - very helpful. **READ BEFORE GOING TO FLAVEUR in 2022** After visiting last night I see many reviews on TripAdvisor talking about the "Grande Deception". I now understand what they mean. I will say I take a lot of the blame for simply looking at the 4.5 star reviews on every site and the two Michelin Stars without researching further. Without such a genuinely nice server, I would say it was one of the worst meals of my life. I have dined at countless Michelin 2 & 3 stars in Europe and the US (plenty of times alone) and have never experienced anything like this. The dining room is simply unacceptable for a Michelin starred restaurant. After about an hour the tension and awkwardness start to close in on you. The lights are far too bright for any sort of atmosphere. Clearly they've invested no more in the dining room than a simple cafe or brasserie, genuinely shameful. The wait of 15-20 minutes between courses is also truly unacceptable. You cannot expect patrons to want to spend 3+ hours in a dining room that looks like that. It's inhospitable. I was left with nothing to do but stare at the walls and go on my phone during the long waits between courses. The food was nothing spectacular to say the least. Some of the flavor combinations were somewhat inedible, such as the calamari tagliatelle and the curried fish, a dish that was undercooked and thus impossible to eat without a knife, something I had not been given for that course. Far too heavy handed with spice and flavor combinations. After a while everything fades into nothing and you don't even remember a single favor you ate. I also understand that €55 is not a lot of money for a wine pairing, but it's only three glasses, and to be served a Philippe Colin Bourgogne Blanc which is surely a €2-3 glass of wine, is truly offensive, I should have left then. Unclear how they've managed to get Michelin to continue giving them the two star rating, but I suspect something very fishy is going on, just like half the dishes last night. This is my second Michelin star restaurant experience -- my first was a 3 Michelin star restaurant in Tokyo. We decided to dine here after my boyfriend discovered that this restaurant recently received a 1 Michelin star rating and had pretty good reviews while visiting Nice. Upon entering the restaurant, we were warmly greeted by the staff and they offered to take our jackets. We got tap water to drink which I found to taste a bit strange compared to the tap water I've had elsewhere in Nice. I ordered the menu plaisir which consisted of 4 dishes while my boyfriend got the menu decouverte which consisted of 6 dishes. We were consistently served a fresh assortment of bread and we had 3 free mini dishes inbetween. The waiter explained each dish with lots of detail including a bit of history behind some of the key ingredients . Overall the meal was well done, flavours were unique, and service was great. Our dinner took a lot longer than expected with the entire meal being 4 hours long from the first to last dish and we ended up leaving around midnight. I give this place 4 stars because dinner took really long (we had to wait quite a while between dishes) and the staff wasn't as attentive as they could've been given their 1 Michelin star accreditation (e.g we had to remind them that we needed more water and they forgot we asked for the bill at the end of the night). Other than that, I can't really complain about the food! They made me like their lamb dish even though I've never enjoyed the taste nor the smell of it!! read more

My husband and I were in Nice two days and we looked for a Michelin star restaurant after our first lovely experience in a Michelin star restaurant on the French alps. Ill start with the only negative comment I have, which is that we weren't prepared to sit at a restaurant for 4 hours! BUT the service and the food were impeccable! The servers were extremely professional, konwledgeable and friendly and all spoke English. We ordered the 68 euro prix fixe and had many requests for accommodations/ alterations as my husband doesn't eat any fish or pork or dairy! It seems sometimes that his food restrictions makes for even better meals, as the chef has to be creative while maintaining the same quality of food! The amuse-Bouche and complimentary palate-cleansers (there were at least 3!!) along with their house breads were absolutely mouthwatering! Every dish had flavours that explode in your mouth. And the richness and freshness, unbelievable! I loved the caviar plate in the beginning , and I've never tasted such rich and yet light and fluffy risotto with only the freshest seafood that melt in your mouth. Too bad I could barely eat my main dish as I was already full from all the in-between dishes and delicious appetizers! read more

We booked through the Michelin website, and unfortunately, there was an error, leaving us unable to dine there. However, the chef came out personally to apologize for the mix-up, and booked us a table at a local bistro called La Maquis. We had an excellent meal there and were told at the end that the chef at Flaveur would be picking up the tab! We were very surprised by this generosity and will definitely try Flaveur again if we are back in Nice. (Word of advice: book directly with Flaveur rather than the Michelin website!) read more

The food was ok, nothing wow, certainly not Michelin worthy. After 2.5hrs, we'd only had two courses (we had an 8pm sitting). As you have to give your credit card to book, you can't even just leave with paying for what you've eaten. We left early in the end, but it was just after midnight and had only had 3 courses. Half of the other tables left early also. The chef was so arrogant. We said to the waiter how we weren't happy with the wait time, the chef came out and said he could do what he likes because he has 2 stars! Then said, if you don't pay the full bill he'd call the police. We never said we wouldn't pay, this was clearly a man under pressure but too arrogant to admit failure. The chef knocked a wine glass coming out of the kitchen which smashed over me, no acknowledgement or apology or duty of care. A waiter told us, the chef tries to get everyone having the same course at the same time, so even if you sat at 7.30, you'll end up being delayed to 9.30 pm sittings with maybe some underwhelming appetisers and random variation of breads. I wouldn't be surprised if this restaurant is closed within a year. Seriously not worth a visit. Michelin shouldn't associate their name with them. read more

We dined here the first day we arrived in Nice'. It is a quaint place decorated with wooden fish on the walls. Each dish was definitely unique & artistic; overall an amazing experience. The staff was very attentive & spoke English. Be prepared to pay this place isn't cheap, we had the 3 prix fixe meal & paid 300 euros. read more

PARTIAL REVIEW Ambiance: -Flaveur is a small dining room with lightly coloured walls, bright lighting and massive cut-out wooden fish on the walls. It isn't "sexy" as far as date night spots go, but it is definitely comfortable. -Light jazz music plays in the background to supplement the gentle chatter in the room. The tables are fairly well spaced apart, making it an ideal spot for date night where you want to easily speak with your partner. Service: -Two servers took care of the entire room throughout the night, both of which spoke beautiful English and were remarkably friendly and professional. -They were well versed on the menu and wine pairings, ensured cutlery, and wine arrived at the appropriate time and in order, and were attentive with refilling our bottled water. -Having said that, perhaps this is my Americanized standards, but the meal was uncomfortably long. We specifically went with the shortest pre-fixe option because we knew we had to get up early for our flight, and still it took us a whole 2 1/2 hours to get through. Seeing as some of the most extensive tasting menus in the world are only an hour longer, I can't help but consider this an exorbitant amount of time for a 4 course meal. It was almost comical watching the two servers bob about the room offering bread to tables in an effort to hold them off. But for me, filling up customers on bread does the chef and restaurant an injustice as by the time the main course rolls around I am often too full to even enjoy it. I also wonder if it's a tactic to sell more wine. Either way is not so enjoyable for me. Drinks: -La Flaveur offers a generous menu of all French wines by the bottle, with 14 of them available by the glass (7-12€). Diners also can choose to allow the restaurant to pair the tasting menu or pre-fixe with the appropriate wines (27-45€ depending on the size of menu), which my partner decided to do. I, on the other hand, opted to just go by the glass, first with a bright and slightly grassy 2011 Terre de Fume, then a fabulous not-too-sweet Blanc D'Hiver with dessert. We both agreed that while the wines (all white for our particular menu) were not particularly spectacular, they paired nicely with the food and were very easy to drink. Food: -Le Flaveur essentially offers you two different menu choices - the "Spice Road" Flavors and Discovery three course meal for 50€ with an option to add a cheese dish for 13 €, or a 6 course Menu Decouverte for 80€. Having been told that the tasting would take a minimum of 3 1/2 hours, we opted to streamline and go with the 3 courses plus cheese. These things are never only the number of courses they specify, anyway. Squid-Ink Ice Cracker with Spanish Sausage, White Turnip and Caviar of Olive Oil; Cured Spanish Beef; Speck of Smoked Haddock; Chickpea Puree with Falafel; Seabream Ceviche with Whipped Potatoes and Wasabi A little selection of starters to get our appetite revved up- my favourite by far was the fabulous seabream ceviche, whipped potatoes and the crunchy spicy wasabi flakes. I also loved the baby falafel idea- what an adorable passable hors d'oeuvres idea for a party! Half-Cooked Salmon, Combawa and Granny Smith Salsa, Haloumi Cheese, Avocado Puree and Kiwano The salmon was perfectly cooked so that it merely melted on the tongue and its sweetness was nicely complimented by the tangy combawa and apple salsa. I also loved the bounty of aromatic dill in there, which really brought all the light fresh flavours together. Mediterranean Umbrine, Champonzu and Gyozu Ravioli, Christophine and Colombo Bouillon The Christophine is a fruit that has a texture and flavour somewhere between an apple and a jicama. It's crunchy, sturdy, juicy, and mildly sweet- perfect to counterbalance the chewy Asian ravioli. The fish had a nicely seared crispy skin and a delicate white flesh, and the broth was neither too salty nor too bland. A flawless dish. Cheese selection: Camembert, Brillat Savarin, Goat Cheese coated in Wood Charcoal, Ewe Milk Cheese, Shaved Saless with Quince Fruit Paste A nice spread of cheeses, my favourite of course being the Brillat Savarin (my all time favourite cheese), followed closely by the delicious ewe milk. But that camembert was so stinky (and in a bad dirty sock way) that we just had to leave that one alone. Rose-Lychee Crispy Tuile, Pink Champagne and Longane Jelly, White Chocolate Mousse and Sorbet A beautiful presentation- this would be a gorgeous dessert for a baby girl shower or a pink themed event.
