Mussels in cream sauce
Laurie B.

The muscles in cream sauce are to die for, we went back twice! And the veal Milanese is yummy.

For Americans readers, Avoid this place . They only want your money. If you don't dine and want just a few drinks and desserts you will not be welcomed! They only want MONEY

Parma pizza in front, back linguine w/ vegetables.

Good food and service! Food: I had the Parma pizza 4/5 and profiterole 5/5. My sister had the carbonara and crème brûlée and she enjoyed both. Pricing/Value: mid range, what I expected for location. Large portions! We both had half of our main plate to take away. Service: our server was wonderful!!! He set us up at a table outside and noted that the table wobbled on the stone pavement so he brought and placed a piece of wine cork under the table leg to balance it! Later I t started raining and we were seated outside under an umbrella and he helped us move to a different table next to us that had better coverage. Accessibility: restaurant is up a half flight of stairs from the road by the water. There is indoor, more permanent sheltered porch seating, and outdoor seating with umbrellas. They had multiple languages available via QR code: off top I recall English and Italian but there was one or two more listed. Seats are comfortable, "directors chair" style. They all appeared to have arm rests - if you are plus size like me you may have some trouble getting in and out but once in the chair it is VERY comfortable. Bathrooms are unisex with 3 stalls, they are up a half flight of stairs in a loft dinning room. Ceiling in dinning area to pass through are LOW! I am 5'3" and I'd guess the ceiling was like 5'8" def - under 6 ft - so watch your head!

Ceviche

The service, food and views were all amazing! I LOVED the ceviche. Would definitely come back

Almost every time I'm in Riviera the visit starts with a sunny lunch at Cosmo. The location is amazing - picture perfect view of the water, sunny terrace and lively square. Does not get much better at the Riviera than this. The sunny terrace and perfect view make up for the fact that the food is pretty average. Try the Cosmo salad with avocado and shrimps. That usually works.

Cosmo is one of the first restaurants that you see in the port of Villefranche as you tender from your cruise ship so it gets pretty busy. It is also reasonably priced compared to some of the other seafood specialty restaurants down the street - dishes are in the range of 15 euros. For those not used to the French/Spanish/Italian way of dining, you will have a much more enjoyable experience if you lower your service expectations way down a few levels. Beyond seating you, taking your order and bringing your food, rarely do the servers come back to check on you. Most of the times you have to flag them down and sometimes make requests repeatedly. Their form of dining is much more leisurely and takes well over an hour for a meal. When we were eating here, we saw several other tables leave in a huff b/c they were not attended to (Americans and Brits, of course). They definitely are not at the pace of American standards which can be good or bad depending on your perspective. The service here was one of the better we experienced since they get so many people and the waiters are in a constant frenzy. Most speak basic English and they have English translations of their menu. As far as the food, they have these cool misters with olive oil and balsamic vinegar that you spray on your bread rather than dip. The house foie gras was one of the better ones I have had. It is a special mixture containing some egg yolk. It was mild and not overly unctuous but still creamy. It paired well with the accompanying browned onion marmalade. The nicoise salad was also good, having a lot of tuna, artichoke, and surrounded by endives. I didn't care much for the anchovies, fortunately only a fillets. This is standard for the nicoise which is a bit different from the states. Ravioli was very soft and sauce was rich and creamy. The ribeye came out with the best browning/ searing I have seen on a steak to date. Unfortunately, it was the toughest ribeye I have had. My hand cramped from the death grip I had to hold my knife to cut it. There was a lot of gristle that just ended up giving me lockjaw so I had to call it quits. To the restaurant's credit, I think that it was due to the meat itself and not how they prepared it. I did note that it lacked a lot of the marbling I see here in the states. They also have an extensive cocktail menu and they let you just sit at the table and enjoy a couple of beers if you want.

We were lucky and got a table on a whim later Sunday evening. After being seated on the patio at high top table, we actually gasped seeing the view. It's UNREAL. For the entire dinner, it's almost distracting to just keep staring out at the mountains, water and yachts looming down below. Gorgeous. The service matches the hotels 5-star expectations. Super attentive, quick, and friendly. We had drinks to celebrate a proposal and they also brought out some on the house champagne. For dinner, we actually split the blue lobster pasta. It was more than plenty for 2 people. Absolutely delicious. They bring the lobster and pasta out to mix together in front of you and ugh I am still thinking about that dish to this day. Its a hike to get up to this point. Once you reach the gated area, no cars can reach the top. Well worth the challenge to get up and it's such a unique experience. The walk up is all along the hillside and through the little mountain shops. 100% felt like I was in a movie and would love to come back to stay at the hotel. I don't think they couldn't created a better experience here between the food, menu, view, and service... I wouldn't change a thing.

Tip: when you leave the restaurant, stop by the bathroom across the hall in the hotel lobby. It's white marble and plays opera music...reminds you from the scene of The Shining.

I came here 2 nights in a row. First solo, and then with friends because I'd enjoyed it so much…read more Firstly, the atmosphere is lovely. The restaurant has a humble exterior (largely blocked by gelato customers), but once you descend the stairs into the dining area you are in a sheek, romantic, cellar. Intimately small but comfortable. The walls are lined with stone and endless wine bottles. The starters were all quite good. We had the snails, squid, and cheese plait. As a bonus, my waitress recommended an excellent wine to pair with the squid. It was spot on. My group shared the beef and tartafelle (forgive my spelling). The beef was succulent, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. I had no idea what to expect with the second dish but it was delicious and I would certainly order again. The prior night, I had the bakes camembert when eating solo. The dish is exactly as described. It's tasty, but I'd recommend it for a group since eating an entire block of melted cheese solo is challenging. Last but not least, the wait staff were wonderful! We really enjoyed chatting with our 2 waitresses, who went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed ourselves and our election of drinks. As a tourist, you really hope to stumble on a gem like this were the locals charm you and really guide your dining experience. If ever back in Nice, i'll certainly go again!

Also note there is no cell service or WiFi service in the restaurant. Nice ambiance in the restaurant and away from the hustle and bustle of Nice. We ordered the squid, Foie Gras and Filet Mignon. All 3 were very good though I am not a fan of the Fois Gras but it came with a nice salad and bread. The squid was seasoned well and cut thin and flash fried. The filet was sliced and cooked perfect The potatoes were great and also nice salad came with it. Service was ok. Prices Moderate.

I've traveled the world over and have met many a barkeep. This refined gentleman makes the trip worthwhile as he oversees the bar area and pours a delicious drink- all the while making interesting and polite conversation with old world elegance. If you are looking for the slick modernism of a Four Seasons or a Mandarin Oriental, La Voile D'Or is not for you. But our older and charming room with views off the sea were just what made us very sorry to leave. Each day my wife and I tumbled out of bed and down to the stunning pool area where we were greeted by Muriel, Catharine and Isabel who reserved the best chaise lounges for us to gaze at the ocean, enjoy an impeccable lunch, and slip into the sea while ordering off of the refreshing cocktail menu. Such hospitality and service is a hallmark of this gorgeous jewel on the ocean and I hope I return at every opportunity. What a treat! Thank you to the gracious staff that made our trip so memorable each day. Absolutely the best!

This was our favorite meal of our trip to Nice!…read more Warning: Reservations are hard to come by we dropped by and only reservations available were for 9pm two nights later. We took it. The place is super relaxed. 5 maybe 6 tables which made the difficulty of reservations more understandable. Prix fix menu - 4 appetizers to choose from, 4 entrees and 4 desserts. We were there with somewhat of a limited diet, but the options were awesome. We got a cauliflower appetizer and an artichoke one. Both were excellent. We all had the cod for dinner also delicious - served in a bath of traditional fish soup and with potatoes. The dessert was also excellent - we got the goat cheese in olive oil and garlic, the cream cheese with blueberry compote, lemon cheesecake and cinnamon "tiramisu". Every bite was full of flavor and such cool takes on the food. Now the intangibles - we arrived for our 9pm reservation, restaurant closes at 9:30 and we probably didn't walk out until 11:15 and there was still another table of 8 people dining. The host/waiter, Sebastian, was awesome. So friendly and we at no point felt rushed. In fact the opposite. When our daughter was slow in finishing her meal he joked with her instead of hurrying us along. Once we finished our main dish, he casually brought us our dessert and because we didn't order his favorite (we didn't know) he brought us out an extra to enjoy. We felt a little bad so somewhat accelerated the dessert phase so we could square up and leave. Instead he was unhurried, he casually cleared our table and chatted with us for a bit. It took us another 15 minutes before we finally said could we get the bill. He brought it to us another 5-7 minutes later. We had a great experience and one of our best meals in France, if not the best.
