Amazing hidden gem of Nice! In the sea of mediocre tourist traps restaurants this was the most authentic fine dining we could find

    Steamed fish and saffron sauce
    Paul K.

I visited Le Meclun on a Monday night and was so happy to find an open restaurant. Most places are closed around here on Mondays which is unfortunate. Although I was the first diner for the night, the restaurant was quickly crowded within an hour. The food and service were both outstanding, you can tell that the owner, who is also the server, takes tremendous pride in detailing the fresh ingredients and delectable dishes. I chose the Prixe Fixe menu for $50 and enjoyed and appetizer, entrée, and dessert all with service and VAT included. A great deal! Starting with the fresh crab was a great choice, it was a lighter version of a crab cake as it was more of a tartar. The dish was fresh and seasonal with the decorative flowers having a briny oyster flavor that was unexpected. For my entrée, I chose the steamed fish which was served atop a creamy and wonderful saffron cream sauce with asparagus and beans. Unfortunately, only the saffron sauce had much flavor, but it was still good. For dessert I chose what I thought would be a chocolate biscuit that ended up being a perfect molten lava chocolate cake with a fresh orange sorbet that was bright enough to lighten the deep rich dark chocolate ooze. At the end, as per is normal, it took a really long time to get the check.

Compliments to the Chef de Cuisine!

My wife and I went with the seven course prix fix menu. It was quite pricey, however after reading the reviews, we had to go for it. It was worth every penny. Every course was better than the next. The wine selection is extensive and the staff is extremely knowledgable to help you pick a perfect pairing. We ate outside on the street which was quite noisy, however being able to watch Chef Goux work while watching through the large window in the kitchen was fun to watch. We will most likely eat indoors next time. This was our favorite meal of the week and there were some high levels competitors from "Old Town" in the mix.

This was our favorite meal of our trip to Nice!…read more Warning: Reservations are hard to come by we dropped by and only reservations available were for 9pm two nights later. We took it. The place is super relaxed. 5 maybe 6 tables which made the difficulty of reservations more understandable. Prix fix menu - 4 appetizers to choose from, 4 entrees and 4 desserts. We were there with somewhat of a limited diet, but the options were awesome. We got a cauliflower appetizer and an artichoke one. Both were excellent. We all had the cod for dinner also delicious - served in a bath of traditional fish soup and with potatoes. The dessert was also excellent - we got the goat cheese in olive oil and garlic, the cream cheese with blueberry compote, lemon cheesecake and cinnamon "tiramisu". Every bite was full of flavor and such cool takes on the food. Now the intangibles - we arrived for our 9pm reservation, restaurant closes at 9:30 and we probably didn't walk out until 11:15 and there was still another table of 8 people dining. The host/waiter, Sebastian, was awesome. So friendly and we at no point felt rushed. In fact the opposite. When our daughter was slow in finishing her meal he joked with her instead of hurrying us along. Once we finished our main dish, he casually brought us our dessert and because we didn't order his favorite (we didn't know) he brought us out an extra to enjoy. We felt a little bad so somewhat accelerated the dessert phase so we could square up and leave. Instead he was unhurried, he casually cleared our table and chatted with us for a bit. It took us another 15 minutes before we finally said could we get the bill. He brought it to us another 5-7 minutes later. We had a great experience and one of our best meals in France, if not the best.

The restaurant has a humble exterior (largely blocked by gelato customers), but once you descend the stairs into the dining area you are in a sheek, romantic, cellar. Intimately small but comfortable. The walls are lined with stone and endless wine bottles. The starters were all quite good. We had the snails, squid, and cheese plait. As a bonus, my waitress recommended an excellent wine to pair with the squid. It was spot on. My group shared the beef and tartafelle (forgive my spelling). The beef was succulent, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. I had no idea what to expect with the second dish but it was delicious and I would certainly order again. The prior night, I had the bakes camembert when eating solo. The dish is exactly as described. It's tasty, but I'd recommend it for a group since eating an entire block of melted cheese solo is challenging. Last but not least, the wait staff were wonderful! We really enjoyed chatting with our 2 waitresses, who went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed ourselves and our election of drinks. As a tourist, you really hope to stumble on a gem like this were the locals charm you and really guide your dining experience. If ever back in Nice, i'll certainly go again!

Also note there is no cell service or WiFi service in the restaurant. Nice ambiance in the restaurant and away from the hustle and bustle of Nice. We ordered the squid, Foie Gras and Filet Mignon. All 3 were very good though I am not a fan of the Fois Gras but it came with a nice salad and bread. The squid was seasoned well and cut thin and flash fried. The filet was sliced and cooked perfect The potatoes were great and also nice salad came with it. Service was ok. Prices Moderate.

It seems like they only take bookings via phone so you can ask your hotel to help! Anyway, we swung by for lunch and they told us they were fully booked. We asked if we could sit outdoors (it was set up but it had rained in the morning) and they said sure! Food wise, we shared an app, 2 mains and a dessert. The appetizers was Courgette flowers (Zucchini Blossoms) with ricotta cheese inside; there was this acidic mouse in the middle - a very refreshing and delightful dish! I don't see courgette much in the US so I'm glad I tried it. For the mains, we had the local trout and the braised pork cheeks with polenta. The trout was fresh, and paired nicely with a variety of different veggies. The stew was very warm and hearty and also not too salty. For dessert, we tried the tiramisu which was tasty but nothing to write home about. The waitress that served us was very friendly as well! Overall, a fantastic experience. Highly recommend trying it on your trip to Nice :)

This Nice, France Restaurant and beach spot was absolutely amazing…read more I simply cannot express how much we all needed a day to just chill at the beach. After we had already spent a week in Belgium and a day in Monaco we were already exhausted. So luckily when someone asked does anyone want to go to the beach??? we leaped at the chance to relax on the beach oh yasssss beach please!!!! This beach spot belongs to the hotel that is just behind and across from the street is Hotel Le Negresco a beautiful old hotel. The views are gorgeous the beach is beautiful and the best of all is we got full on restaurant on the beach, the servers brought us menus so we ordered French Champagne Moet Chandon Ice Imperial, my favorite of all French Champagnes OMG lucky meeeee lol We had access to this amazing and beautiful restaurant we could either eat at the open air restaurant where they had tables with umbrellas or we could order food from the restaurant and they will bring it to you on the beach so you can enjoy your food and the gorgeous views ah excellent! So we had a beautiful salad with chicken and frites with mayonnaise as the French do lol And of course we greatly enjoyed our delicious lunch and French Champagne while loving that spectacular view. They have big white chaise lounges and they give you towels and each with your own umbrellas, that these darling boys would adjust for us as the sun moved, I love love loved it all. We ate a beautiful lunch from La Plage the Restaurant it was delicious it was Champagne bliss! This is not free obviously you're paying for the food and bubbly considering it came to a little over $350 per couple for Lunch and a bottle of French Champagne and personal servers so we were there the entire day around 5 hours of heaven on a beach in Nice France. If you happen to be in the neighborhood, I highly highly recommend you will not be disappointed I can assure you! À votre santé means to your health in français.
