Looking for a Michelin dinner while in Nice, we had asked ahead about vegetarian options and they happily responded that they could accommodate. Note you will not find this response at all Michelin restaurants in Nice so we were very grateful to Le Chantecler! Mr & I selected the 8 course "chef's surprise" and we were treated to 14 courses with amuse bouche and palette cleansers and multiple desserts. Everything was unique and extremely flavorful We ranged from fresh and lemony to savory sauce reductions and celeriac root "meat". The menu was creative and delicious the service was super nice and the wine selection was over the top impressive. We were sent home with a lovely, locally sourced lemon ginger rose cake, a book that talks about the local sources of their menus and a special printout of what we enjoyed. Valet parking was free! Thank you for accommodating our veggie needs and creating a special menu just for us! Total: 14 courses 1 champers, 1 glass wine 4 hours 600€ including tip

Great meal at a 1 star Michelin rated restaurant. Every course was very good and the staff was attentive!. Beautiful dining room.

Absolutely amazing experience. This is one of the best meals I have ever had. The attention to detail by the chef and the staff is top notch. Everything from beginning to end was incredible. Worth every penny.

    Surprise for our 24th anniversary.

A must for those who enjoy the fine things in life. Chef does a great job using local ingredients. The entire staff are amazing. Louise the sommelier paired the wines wonderfully. My husband loves whiskey and Paul did an amazing job in the pairing. Ricardo, Arthur and Valentin were so knowledgeable re the items. What a great team they have here with Julian heading it all. We can't wait to return to this beautiful ambiance of a Michelin star restaurant.

There are many outstanding dining venues in Nice, but Le Chantecler is a cut above the rest! The ambiance of the main room is exceptional; it creates a feeling of elegance from a long-ago lost era. The entire staff, from the Matre d'Hotel to the servers are all incredibly professional and accommodating; everyone seems to speak perfect English as well :-) Yes, the atmosphere and the service are top-notch, but it's the food here that really sets this restaurant apart! Whether you order a la carte or from one of their special menus, it's simply impossible to make a bad choice. We went with the "Surprise Menu"; that means everything is chosen by the chef, and you don't know what each course will be until it's served. We were delighted with this choice - the presentation was beautiful, and everything tasted amazing. Rounded off with the house sommelier's choice of pairing for each course, we enjoyed an incredible dining experience. Bottom line: This is not just a place to dine, but a place to make special memories - highly recommended!

On September 26, 2019, my wife and I dined at Le Chantecler which is located in the Hôtel Negresco. We have eaten at many fine dining places and this place ranks #1 on my list. (My previous #1 was Vetri in Philly for reference). At Chantecler, the service was impeccable and the food presentation and flavors were outstanding. We enjoyed the Signature Menu which is a 7 course tasting menu and we opted for the additional 5 wine pairing. Certainly worth doing if you have the time. It is expensive at €260 pp for the meal and €140 euro pp for the wine pairing. If you want to experience and extraordinary culinary experiences this will be worth your money. Expect to spend about 3 hours dining if you choose the Signature menu. There is also a 4 course tasting as well as ala carte options. While we did a wine pairing, there is an extensive wine list which they bring to your table. While the wine list is vast a sommelier is there if you'd like the help choosing a wine. I could try and describe the Signature menu, but my guess is that it will change frequently. Take a look at the pictures I posted and you will get a gist of the quality you will experience here. The chef Virgnie Bassleot came out at the end of the meal and greeted everyone individually at their table. Brilliant finishing touch to an outstanding dining experience!

I was expecting to be impressed by this Michelin starred establishment. Was I? Let's see. Customer service was absolutely incredible albeit a bit stiff. I guess it is hard to be more personable when the ambience is almost aristocratic. Ok, I kid. The restaurant itself is stunning. A great amount of time and attention was obviously spent in ensuring the restaurant was beautiful and up to Le Negresco's standards. I dined by myself and I really appreciated when the staff gave me a couple of books to read while I waited for the food. That was quite thoughtful. I ordered the 5 course meal and I did not order wine. I was disappointed by how much time it took the 5 courses to finish. I can understand when it's a couple or a group of people who would spend time talking and drinking wine. It was just me. I did not expect to spend 3.5 hours to eat 5 tiny plates of food. The food itself tasted scrumptious. The presentation was out of this world. €200 later, I felt like I was let down. Maybe I was expecting way too much and that is probably my fault. Would I go back? Probably not.

Wow- this was literally a 3 hour experience with 8 different parts to the meal!! Pretty incredible overall and I can understand how it deserves those 2 Michelin stars! +staff- when we first walked in (we made a Rez online), the waiters took our coats and seated us immediately. Very friendly and attentive +wine- We asked to see the wine list but actually it's a wine BOOK. Literally the waiter had to carry a stool with the giant wine book around the tables if people wanted to see +deals -There's a deal on tues/wed I believe where their discover menu is 2 for 1 (you can't choose what plates you get and have to trust the chef, although they can accommodate food allergies) +++ food - When we were there they had incredible sea bass and seafood based dishes. I don't even have the vocabulary to describe all the dishes except that there were many touches of gold flakes as well as deliciousness. My faves were the sea bass with citrus infused ice as well as the fish with truffle oil and truffles!!! Other: Wine and alcohol comes separately, bread comes with a piece of butter with the letter N on it for the hotel negresco the restaurant is housed in

Amuse pea veloute, egg roll like thing and szechuan pepper gelee with goat cheese cream

I had a very nice meal here on my last night in Nice. 3.5 stars for the food, 5 stars for the service. The ambiance was a little too stuffy for my taste, although it has the Versailles vibe. The waiters were very accommodating, polite, and friendly. The amuse we got were really good. I was a little dubious when I saw an egg roll look alike and when the waiter said one of them had Szechuan gelee. I am not a fan of Asian fusion at all. But I was pleasantly surprised since they were all very good. I insisted they serve my foie gras as one of the courses for the surprise tasting menu. Oh they stop serving this at 9:30PM so make your reservation before 9 if you want this option. The staff was very accommodating and served me foie gras. It was very creamy and delish. Can't complain. Hubby liked the rilletes thing they had on the side of the foie gras more than the foie gras. Then a mango cannelloni with crab. It was very good. The light mango flavor went the crab. The caviar provided the right amount of brininess and saltiness. Back of sea bass and squid. The squid was the best part of this dish. If they just gave me that, then I would have been happy. The sea bass was also very good. Reminded me of Chilean sea bass. It was cooked very well but a little light on the flavor. The veggies accompanying this dish were a little on the bland side. The lamb suckling that came next was good. The white meat was way better than the dark meat. I should have eaten the dark meat first. The white meat was tender, succulent, juicy and very good. The dark meat was a little tough. The sheep (maybe goat? but it didn't taste like goat) with olives inside. I decided I'm not a huge fan of cheese in France. The orange, chocolate layered dessert was a fail for me. It was too much going on at once. The chocolate dessert was okay. Nothing too special. I think Chantecler is the weakest on desserts as I've had tiramisu that was better than both their desserts at a much cheaper restaurant in Nice.

Chardonnay pairing for the veal sweetbread.

An exquisite meal. Service was top notch and the signature dish (veal sweetbread) was cooked to perfection and had deep and complex flavors. This was the first time I had sweetbread of any kind; it was heavily sauteed on both sides, which created a crisp and flavorful outer layer. This contrasted well with the soft and delicate center. The sweetbread was studded with chorizo, which gave the dish a rich umami flavor. I recommend it. The sommelier had a bit of trouble articulating the flavor profiles of the wines she recommended, although this was likely a result of the fact that she did not speak English as a first language. She was articulate enough, however, to convince me to select the wines she recommended. They paired well with the dishes and made the entire experience that much better. If you are in Nice, disregard your budget for a night and go to this restaurant. It was delicious.

This is what fine dining is...bravo! I will say up front, this place is not cheap, but if you are after a special occasion dining venue this is it. Everything about this place was perfect - the staff treat you like royalty; the food is absolutely sublime; and the dining hall is spectacularly decorated to transport you back in time. We had the chefs surprise menu which effectively was a degustation - it was unbelievably good. Fish...lamb...chocolate...all prepared to perfection.

The restaurant has a humble exterior (largely blocked by gelato customers), but once you descend the stairs into the dining area you are in a sheek, romantic, cellar. Intimately small but comfortable. The walls are lined with stone and endless wine bottles. The starters were all quite good. We had the snails, squid, and cheese plait. As a bonus, my waitress recommended an excellent wine to pair with the squid. It was spot on. My group shared the beef and tartafelle (forgive my spelling). The beef was succulent, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. I had no idea what to expect with the second dish but it was delicious and I would certainly order again. The prior night, I had the bakes camembert when eating solo. The dish is exactly as described. It's tasty, but I'd recommend it for a group since eating an entire block of melted cheese solo is challenging. Last but not least, the wait staff were wonderful! We really enjoyed chatting with our 2 waitresses, who went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed ourselves and our election of drinks. As a tourist, you really hope to stumble on a gem like this were the locals charm you and really guide your dining experience. If ever back in Nice, i'll certainly go again!

The filet was sliced and cooked perfect The potatoes were great and also nice salad came with it. Service was ok. Prices Moderate.

This was our favorite meal of our trip to Nice!…read more Warning: Reservations are hard to come by we dropped by and only reservations available were for 9pm two nights later. We took it. The place is super relaxed. 5 maybe 6 tables which made the difficulty of reservations more understandable. Prix fix menu - 4 appetizers to choose from, 4 entrees and 4 desserts. We were there with somewhat of a limited diet, but the options were awesome. We got a cauliflower appetizer and an artichoke one. Both were excellent. We all had the cod for dinner also delicious - served in a bath of traditional fish soup and with potatoes. The dessert was also excellent - we got the goat cheese in olive oil and garlic, the cream cheese with blueberry compote, lemon cheesecake and cinnamon "tiramisu". Every bite was full of flavor and such cool takes on the food. Now the intangibles - we arrived for our 9pm reservation, restaurant closes at 9:30 and we probably didn't walk out until 11:15 and there was still another table of 8 people dining. The host/waiter, Sebastian, was awesome. So friendly and we at no point felt rushed. In fact the opposite. When our daughter was slow in finishing her meal he joked with her instead of hurrying us along. Once we finished our main dish, he casually brought us our dessert and because we didn't order his favorite (we didn't know) he brought us out an extra to enjoy. We felt a little bad so somewhat accelerated the dessert phase so we could square up and leave. Instead he was unhurried, he casually cleared our table and chatted with us for a bit. It took us another 15 minutes before we finally said could we get the bill. He brought it to us another 5-7 minutes later. We had a great experience and one of our best meals in France, if not the best.
