Not a fan of the chickpea pancake. It was recommended to us by our hotel concierge, but we found the pancake was very bland. Did appreciate the outdoor seating benches and quick service, though.

This little street spot was my first taste of Nice on my visit this month. Don't expect anything fancy here but that is not the point. Get your food off the counter and sit down and eat it, like I'm accustomed to at taco trucks or other fast food stands back home in Houston. The house wine is very fruity and drinks very well, the farçis are perfectly cooked to not fall apart but be tender, and the socca and pissaladière decently put together, if rather floury. The farçis were definitely the highlight here, as I had better versions of other dishes elsewhere in Nice, but this is still a tasty place to eat.

When you are starving after walking around Nice's streets in the peak of the heat and your stomach is complaining, here is the place to stop at. I usually love the old town district of cities because it has charm and history. In this part of Nice everywhere is crowded with tourists and probably not so many locals eat in here (still a yes for me!). The area has a great vibe, the sun was shining, there were lovely and practical wooden benches and I loved to eat whilst overlooking people passing by in between so many colours and smells. I tried some of the local stuff: Moules-frites (mussels served in a large bowl with a delicious beer sauce and tasty fries), Pissaladière (onion tart/pizza with anchovies and lots of garlic) and a good-looking HUGE piece of spinach pie. They basically sell all those nibbles and you can easily share as the portions are fair. I was just laughing a lot because you get so dirty after devouring all the mussels in such superb sauce and they give you only one very tiny "airline like" individually packed wet wipe! From what I remember pretty good view and vibe and a shared plate for 12€.

Great meal in France!…read more This was a fantastic first dinner in Nice right off the main drag. We had reservation for 7pm and arrived a few minutes early. We waited a few minutes while they prepped our table and we were seated promptly. The vibe was cool, very French cafe feeling on the streets. The waiters were kind and attentive was you settled in. They patiently answered all our menu questions. We ordered the fois gras (because when in France), the duck and the octopus. All the food was excellent, the fois gras was perfect (although probably wouldn't order it again for ethical reasons). The octopus was absolutely perfect, very very easy to screw up, but they nailed it; every bit melting in our mouths. The duck breast was perfect, juicy and cooked to perfect. All the dishes were served with plenty of accompaniment. Great meal for a great French experience. Would highly recommend.

Walked over from a nearby hotel and grabbed a table by myself along the busy street. The servers…read morewere very friendly and spoke English well. It happened to be happy hour so I was able to take advantage of some great drink deals. For my dinner, I ordered the duck with vegetables, potatoes, and added a side of ratatouille. It was all very good and the portions were large for the price. The orange sauce was unique and it seemed to have orange peels in it as well. While this might be more of a touristy spot with this location, it was a true French menu, which was my goal. The food and service were very good and I'll come back.

This was our favorite meal of our trip to Nice!…read more Warning: Reservations are hard to come by we dropped by and only reservations available were for 9pm two nights later. We took it. The place is super relaxed. 5 maybe 6 tables which made the difficulty of reservations more understandable. Prix fix menu - 4 appetizers to choose from, 4 entrees and 4 desserts. We were there with somewhat of a limited diet, but the options were awesome. We got a cauliflower appetizer and an artichoke one. Both were excellent. We all had the cod for dinner also delicious - served in a bath of traditional fish soup and with potatoes. The dessert was also excellent - we got the goat cheese in olive oil and garlic, the cream cheese with blueberry compote, lemon cheesecake and cinnamon "tiramisu". Every bite was full of flavor and such cool takes on the food. Now the intangibles - we arrived for our 9pm reservation, restaurant closes at 9:30 and we probably didn't walk out until 11:15 and there was still another table of 8 people dining. The host/waiter, Sebastian, was awesome. So friendly and we at no point felt rushed. In fact the opposite. When our daughter was slow in finishing her meal he joked with her instead of hurrying us along. Once we finished our main dish, he casually brought us our dessert and because we didn't order his favorite (we didn't know) he brought us out an extra to enjoy. We felt a little bad so somewhat accelerated the dessert phase so we could square up and leave. Instead he was unhurried, he casually cleared our table and chatted with us for a bit. It took us another 15 minutes before we finally said could we get the bill. He brought it to us another 5-7 minutes later. We had a great experience and one of our best meals in France, if not the best.

Overall, I'd say the food is a 3.5/5 but the value is 5/5. I'd recommended Chez Palmyre if you want a real Nice experience, especially on a budget. Be sure to make a reservation well in advance.
