We wanted it to be better but our dinner in the main dining room was pretty bad. The last time we ate there Jean Claude was in the kitchen. This time I ordered the steak au poivre, medium. It came well done, dry and barely warm. The quality of the meat was poor and does not belong in this caliber of restaurant. My wife ordered the special, grouper which was overcooked and sitting on a lump of mashed potatoes and vegetables. An unsightly mess. Not plated well and obviously fish isn't their thing. This was after waiting close to an hour after our scallop appetizer which was excellent. If we hadn't waited so long we would have sent both dishes back. Like most restaurants you have to know what to order. But we happened to make two bad choices on a Tues. night. We wanted this birthday dinner to live up to the reviews we read esp. after having 40 years to get things right. We will probably give them another chance some day because I am sure some of their selections are worthy of the French tradition, especially the dishes that are mentioned in the 5 star reviews. We liked the ambience, music and decor. It is a charming restaurant but there are problems in the kitchen. read more

My experience here was excellent! This little place was tucked away, and my husband found it and surprised me with an anniversary dinner here. We decided to get the mussels for our appetizer, and each chose one of the specials offered that evening, as well as opened a bottle of wine. I got a crusted rainbow trout and I believe he got steak tartare. The service, flavors, and ambiance were incredible, and I would highly recommend for anyone looking for an elegant, old-fashioned French cuisine experience. They provided creme brulee when they heard it was our anniversary. It can get a bit pricy, so please be aware-- but also know every moment is worth it! read more

Went here to celebrate an anniversary and was thrilled! I have grown up surrounded by great restaurants and the food at Le Rendez-Vous follows suit. Food: phenomenal. We shared a number of items (mainly because we wanted to have lunch for the next day). Started with the French Onion Soup, Scallops and the Nicoise salad. The onions were perfect- they were not soggy, they were cooked through just right. The bread was delicious served on its own and in the soup. The Scallops were delicious- the sauce was perfect - it did not overpower the scallops and vice -versa- a well balanced dish. It is small but because it has a rich sauce it worked well. The nicoise had a nice light, flavorful dressing and came surrounded with the works. The small piece of salmon atop the salad was quite tasty and honestly the size worked for me- combined with potatoes, greens beans, red peppers, hard-boiled egg, kalamata olives, etc it was plenty. Entree: We shared the Cheateaubriand. Wonderful! They has a nice table side presentation where they heat the sauce and check to ensure that the meat is done to your liking- which it was. They slice the meat pour the freshly heated sauce over the meat. The meat was so tender you could cut it with just your fork if you felt so inclined. The accompanying potatoes were delicious and the green beans were okay- could use a little more flavor. Dessert: Not really sure how we managed to eat dessert after all of that but we did. Worth it! We had the Soufle which you need to order early on as it takes a while to prepare. It was great, not overly sweet, paired with a delicious mouse, light and fluffy. Service: Pretty good- The manager was attentive and checked in with us- always a good sign when the manager cares. We had a woman who took a while to take our order but a lot of the other waiters seemed to help her out. She was very kind however. The busser seemed to struggle getting things off the table in a timely fashion (I worked in restaurants for a long time so this is a pet-peeve) -- Why still 5 stars? Food was worth it and when it comes to service sometimes it can just be an off night. read more

Love the food here, very original! This place is a hole in the wall and definitely worth checking out. It is a little on the pricey side though read more

I love food. Particularly wonderful restaurant food. And, not so incidentally, spent 25 years as a restaurant columnist in Los Angeles and Oregon writing weekly reviews of some of the finest restaurants in the business. I hate mediocre food. Particularly mediocre restaurant food. I can easily forgive a mediocre dinner prepared by a well-loved friend in the warm atmosphere of his/her home, discussing the local economic problems and how the grandchildren are "growing-up-so-fast-you-can't-keep-up-with-them." No problem with the entree being slightly over done, or the salad a bit wilted. After all, I'm not there for what's on the plate, but for the conversation, the camaraderie, the friendship. Not necessarily true for restaurants. I go there for the food, and at the prices most charge, it damn well better be more interesting than I can do myself at home. And, oh yeah, the service better be good, too. Le Rendez-Vous failed on both counts. The food is mediocre, I won't even say it's truly French. The prices are high, commensurate with its obvious opinion of itself, and the portions are small and uninteresting. There are a few things I order to test a restaurant's authenticity; mole and tamales at Mexican restaurants, pho at Vietnamese eateries, mussels and Petrale sole at places that specialize in seafood, and, ris de veau (sweetbreads) at French. They are the classics. If you can't cook and serve these correctly, you're not giving me authentic anything. Le Rendez-Vous failed again. For a whopping $28, I received a portion of four, count 'em four, bite-sized pieces of meat swimming in a pool of gloppy, overly salted brown gravy, (I won't call it sauce.) When I ordered, the waiter seemed upset that I asked him to ensure me that the sweetbreads weren't heavily breaded or deep-fried. They weren't, but his attitude offended me, and he in turn, thinking we were going to give him a hard time and ruin his night, called over the owner to finish up our service. If the waiter was upset, the owner was simply downright rude. When one of the other diners informed him that we were celebrating two birthdays at his restaurant, he rudely said something like "so what?" And then told us he would put a candle in our dessert to celebrate the occasion. The French have a reputation for rudeness. It is greatly unwarranted. My wife is of French heritage, and we've spent three vacations in Paris eating our way through incredible food and meeting some of the nicest people. I left Le Rendez-Vous hungry and angry, and we spent the entire car trip home shaking our heads at the horrible experience we had just endured. I will not be back to this place, and I recommend others avoid it at all costs. Doug Mitchell Tucson, Arizona read more

We also had an awful dining experience and would highly recommend NEVER going to this place - EVER. Rude, awful staff and disappointing food. We went on Mother's Day of 2014. Astonishingly bad in every way. Never again. read more

So, I'm not going to lie. This was the first date my wife and I went on in almost four years since my son was born. I wanted to do something extra special and romantic for her birthday so I took her here over the weekend. The staff was wonderful and the food and presentation was amazing. They truly made the night special for us. I spent the entire next day thinking about the food and the experience (but mostly the food).. I can't wait to return for our next date night. read more

My girlfriend and I wanted to eat a candle lite dinner. Our first time eating French food was world opening for us. I started with snails that went great with the bread and wine, and she had the nićois salad with the salmon was amazing. My Wellington was cooked perfect with an amazing sauce and perfectly cooked asparagus. My date had the cabrilla a white fish that was very tasty, she ate the whole plate. The service was great inside of a romantic authentic French restaurant. read more

We spend New Year's Eve here and had a six course dinner that was lovely. I'm a huge fan of French cuisine and was not disappointed at Le Rendez-Vous. I started with the onion soup that was simply delicious, one of the best I've had. My appetizer was a trio of mushrooms with brie in a puff pastry. This by far was my favorite of the evening. The pastry was perfect and the mushrooms and brie melted in your mouth - I did hesitantly share some with my dinner companions, but very little. The house salad was also yummy as was the pear sorbet prior to the main course. I had the veal medallions. I was surprised to find it covered in some kind of cheese. It was different but good. This was accompanied by a lovely potato gratin and roasted tomato. I chose the cream puffs for the finish, but frankly I was so full I only tasted a bite or two. The overall experience was nice. The atmosphere was probably more lively than usual due to NYE but still was easy to talk and relax. Full bar and nice wine list as well. Service was a little slow, we waited an really long time to get our soup, but again the holiday crowd was probably more than they are used to. Another highlight was the wonderful french bread. Perfect crunchy crust and warm soft middle. Don't pass it up. Verdict: Would definitely go again on another visit to AZ. Would love to experience it on a "regular" night. read more

I felt like French food and I looked it up on Yelp. French restaurant in an old house...I'm In! We showed up unannounced and they had a tale for us. On the menu they have an assortment for two where you can get French Onion Soup, Escargot, a few other things to share. It was wonderful, food was great, atmosphere was intimate and good and I would go back in a minute! read more

I'm not sure where the other reviewers had been dining but it certainly did not reflect my experience at Le Rendezvous-Vous. To start with, we had reservations for 6. We only had 4 bread plates. We had to ask more than once for the missing plates. We were told they were out of clean plates. The whole evening from that point on went downhill. We were told that to order the duck, you had to order in advance. If this is the case, take that item off the menu and have it as a special. The online menu did not reflect what the current menu is even though the menu had been changed several months ago. The food although edible was over cooked to the point of some items being burnt. The staff although pleasant and professional for the most part had a tendency to be snippy when asked questions concerning menu items or the bill. This place in general tries to be something it is not. The food is mediocre for the price, the wine is horribly over priced and the atomsphere felt like I was in a bar and not a upscale dining room which it claims to be. read more

If you're looking for a great place for a romantic night this is it! When we entered, we were greeted and told we could choose where to sit as it was early and the restaurant wasn't very busy yet. We chose a nice table that was covered in a tablecloth with a candle lit. Right away we were given menus and served water in glasses. We started our night with a cocktail and some wine, both very good and recommended by our server. We also ordered their Soupe A L'Oignon Gratinee which was a delectable French onion soup. We also shared their Coquilles Saint-Jacques that were the best scallops we have ever been served! For our mains we ordered the Steak Frites and the Beef Wellington. My partner loved the steak frites but the star of the show was definitely the beef Wellington. The meat was SO tender and it felt sinful eating it lol. We were full and happy but our server brought out a creme brûlée for us since we were celebrating our anniversary! It was so thoughtful and made the experience even more special. Before we cashed out we were asked if we wanted to order an after dinner coffee beverage and my partner ordered a cappuccino. It came out hot and was super yummy. We can't recommend Le Rendez-vous enough. GO HERE!!! read more

Le Rendez-Vous was the perfect place to share an intimate Valentine's dinner with my thoughtful boyfriend. We opted to go out the Friday before Valentine's Day and the restaurant was fairly quiet. I got the Saumon a l'Oseille -- it was perfectly cooked and delicious. Even my boyfriend who hates any form of seafood found the salmon to be "edible". Trust me when I say this is progress. He ordered the baby rack of lamb and claimed it was one of the best meals of his life. We topped the night off with the Grand Marnier Souffle. Despite considering myself quite the dessert connoisseur, this was my first time trying a souffle! It was the perfect sweet treat to end the night. read more

On my first trip to Tucson. Of the five restaurants visited on this trip Le Rendezvous-vous was tied for first place. Good service supports a superior menu. The wine selection was one of the better offered in Tucson. They close early, 9PM. Prices were well below national average. Not a very big room may indicate a need for reservations. You will be pleased to have enjoyed a meal at this low key star quality restaurant. Enjoy. read more

We went to Le Rendez-vous last night for dinner. The restaurant is pleasant, however the food was not what we expected. I ordered the mussels, and the broth was flavorless. My wife ordered the sea bass, and was unimpressive, one dimensional, and needed a sauce. The french onion soup was delicious, but when the highlight of a fairly pricey meal is the small cup of soup, you know there is a problem. Finally, when we received our bill, we noticed a strange charge. We were charged an extra $1.50 for each drink that we ordered "up". We were told that this was because there is more alcohol in a drink not served on the rocks, but I was pretty amazed that this is not detailed on the drinks menu nor explained when we ordered. Not that I would have altered my order, but it seems like nickel and diming when drinks already cost $10-13. In the end, I would not go back to Le Rendez-vous. read more

LOVE le rendezvous! Such a great little gem in Tucson. Best escargot around! Also! They have EXCELLENT beef Wellington. My favorite.

Always outstanding. This evening, they were a bit short on wait staff but Frank our waiter made up for it, after some initial delays, with extraordinary attention. An outstanding generous gin Martini followed by the smoothest imaginable vichyssoise and a distinctive duck dish, all crowned by an exemplary creme brûlée. Fabulous! Whoever edits the menu should correct the spelling of sauce bearnaise and of Riesling. read more

We had a number of the small plates. They were all very good. We showed up 30 minutes early before our reservation. Although there were a number of seats available, the issue is it is a very small kitchen and everything is made fresh at time of order. We were very patient and I'm glad that we were. The meal was exceptional. In addition to the small plates that we shared we also shared a main entrée. It was way more food than we intended. Lovely atmosphere, exceptional food. I wish it was closer to where we lived. read more

Best French restaurant I've ever been to. Every meal I've eaten here has been memorable. The duck is definitely my favorite.

With the reviews posted we decided to give this place a try, Nice little bistro style place, were immediately greeted and seated. Presented the menu and we were ready for a nice dinner. I ordered the sweetbreads and my wife wanted the escargot. For the entree we decided to spring for the 68 dollar Chateaubriand. Both our appetizers arrived shortly and were delicious. Then after about 20 minutes our Chateaubriand arrived. They serve that table-side with flourish, etc, all the fancy stuff that you would expect for a 70 dollar piece of beef. Except that , we ordered it medium rare and it arrived medium, to well. If it wasn't for the cold Bearnaise sauce to coat the pieces of meat it would have been a total disappointment. The waiter did offer to bring another new piece of meat but after waiting for 20 or more minutes, we decided to eat what was presented. The real sad thing is the owner got cheated out of some more profit from our dinner if any of the waiter would have bothered to tell us at the time we ordered our entrees that if we wanted the Grand Mariet souffle, we should order it at the time we order the entree. That is usually what is done at all the other restaurants that offer Grand Marnier souffle. Not wanting to wait another 20-25 minute for the dessert we opted out. Just for one forgetful or non attentive waitstaff the restaurateur lost out on a couple of orders. I would strongly suggest that in the future they ask, if the patron is considering the souffle, that they advise the waitstaff of that fact. All in all it was an OK dinner, but I hate going out to dinner dropping a couple of hundred bucks for an OK dinner. It would have been good if a little more attention was done. For that, we can only give it two stars. read more

Eat like the French at Le Rendez-Vous..enjoy good food and take your time. Relax and savor a wine from their appropriate collection.

We stopped in on a Friday at 5, we sat in the new bistro. The small plates were very tasty and the appetizers are half price they had a tasty drink on special. I really was expecting a stuffy atmosphere but was very happy to enjoy delicious food and good service. We will be coming again. read more

Very classy, very romantic, and very expensive. Expect to pay big bucks for small portions and mediocre service (we had to ask for everything when it should have been provided). Even though the bill was outrageous, the food was very good (we savored every bite). It's worth it if you have the money and want to celebrate a special occasion. read more

Excellent little restaurant. It's French food so it is expensive but definitely worth it. My wife and I were probably the youngest couple there but we didn't mind. Food is great and service terrific. A month ago I had a very bad fall on the strangely sloping, slickly finished entryway. Fortunately, I didn't break any bones but I have been suffering from the severe bruising and tissue trauma that resulted ever since. Only the hostess and other customers expressed concern for me. I would warn anyone going here to be careful about the entryway surface. We did have a very good meal except that our mussels were borderline fresh....not unusual in Tucson but surprising here. The delicious sauces were the best part of our meal. Our table service was very good. read more

I had not been here for a few years and then I went to happy hours with some friends. Gordon Berger, the present owner of Le Rendez-vous came over to our table and gave us a little history of his background. Turns out that he not only learned from his father who started the restaurant years ago but he went to Europe and was trained in Paris, Brittany & Lyon France. The escargot was wonderful, the cheese board to die for and the little beef wellington really tender. We were in the casual back part of the restaurant and it was wonderful that you could actually hear each other at the table and hold a real conversation which was awesome as I personally do not like the current trend of very loud restaurants. All of us agreed we will definately be back! read more

It was a disappointing experience. Almost all the food that we ordered are too salty. We had the mini Wellington, onion soup, roast duck and the scallop dish. The flavor is good but I expect more when it costs $30 for a dish. There are many other high end excellent restaurants in town with lower price tags. read more

I was worried I was going to walk into a restaurant with a presumptuous staff but I could not have been more wrong. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to have a nice night out and has a few bucks to spend. read more

Very romantic and fancy place for a date, can get expensive but the food is really good.

I ordered the duck; my husband ordered the chicken. Although we were warned it would be a 20 minutes wait for the food, it actually came right away. Although the flavor was good, it was not hot. We told the waiter, but he didn't seem to care. read more

We went here to celebrate our anniversary and had a wonderful time. It's definitely expensive but that fits the bill for the type of food you'll encounter - we started with escargot (yes, snails in garlic butter!) and tried the Beef Wellington (which was quite good) and the evening special, Two Quails. To help us celebrate, they gave us complimentary Creme Brule (yum!). A unique experience I would recommend for special nights. read more

Got here an loved every bit of it. The cocktails were delicious and they gave us a ton of delicious bread to start. We tried about 7-8 of the small platter and loved every single one of them. My personal favorite were the escargot and the mini wellington. We tried their soup afterwards and both the vichyssoise and he mushroom soup were amazing. Finally we finished with the soufflé which was one of the best deserts I've had. The service was overall very friendly and fast, and the interior was very nice and clean. Great experience. read more

Small plates in the bistro, or drinks at the bar with a dessert are a cheap date if the entree prices are scary, but they are worth it! Billed as an authentic French restaurant, with appropriate ambiance...table cloths etc. The food was adequate but the service was mediocre. One of the main things that seemed to "put me off," was that the serving person's response to practically every request: "You got it!" Would you like tap water or sparkling water? Tap please. "You got it!" Would you like a glass of wine? Your Cab please. "You got it!" Water glasses were not filled promptly, nor was the bread basket replenished. The butter dish contained nearly frozen portions of butter too. when we asked for the check...The immediate response was..."YOU GOT IT!" read more
