I really liked the dish I tried at Agustin Kitchen. I had a $20 voucher for dinner and came by to try their Coriander-Rice Crusted Oyster Mushrooms entree with orange- ginger- chili jam, napa apple slaw, togarashi and citrus. It was absolutely delicious and all the flavors compliment one another perfectly. The batter stayed crispy even with the slaw on top and the orange-chili jam balanced it nicely. I love that the entire dinner menu is 20% off for happy hour 4pm-6pm. The regular price seemed high to me for the serving size but I could definitely tell that they put effort and creativity into the dish. The menu changes seasonally and the food tasted very fresh and interesting. I hope to see them add some plant-based items to their breakfast and lunch menus the next time the menu shifts with the season. Vegan, vegetarian and GF items are clearly marked. They have nice outdoor seating with sprinklers. I will mention that the food took about 40 minutes to come out even when they didn't seem busy, it was not a problem for me but just noting that it might not be a good spot to come to in a rush. My general rating system: 1 star: I would stay away 2 stars: Has some good things about it but I generally don't recommend. 3 stars: Pretty good. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back but a decent place 4 stars: Great place. I would go back. 5 stars: I highly recommend stopping whatever you are doing and making plans to try it out! This is one of my favorite places in Tucson, there is a French yet Mexican/Spanish quality to the place. This beautiful restaurant is inside a building that opens into a small plaza where people can dine outdoors if they like. Its romantic but not arrogant and a very down to earth place. I have been here several times and this last time I was here, I came over after a sunset hike at Tumomac Hills. I sat at the bar and had a nice bartender take care of me. I had a PJ Margarita which was thirst quenching and refreshing after a hardy hike. I ordered the turnip salad and a side of frites. My turnip salad arrived and I gobbled up the goodness that can only happen with fresh veggies prepared this way and then waited for the frites. I got tired of waiting for the frites so asked the bartender to close me out. He asked if I wanted them to go and I said no. I should have better communicated that I wanted my salad and fries to arrive at the same time. Oh well, my mistake, no big deal. Bartender was very nice about it, took off the fries and also gave me 20% off HH pricing for my drink and salad. Overall, a good experience here, love the decor, and the pendant lighting at the bar is what drew me in initially. I'd definitely come back again when in Tucson. Enjoyed another delicious steak dinner here. They didn't have the steak listed on the menu and substituted a flank steak with choice of side (fries, asparagus, or risotto). I chose the risotto and it was great, not too rich since there was cauliflower and veggies added. The serving size was very generous of steak and risotto. They've changed the happy hour, it's now from 4-6 (even better than 3-5) and still 20% off the entire menu. Service was very friendly. I wanted to check the area out, Mercado San Augustin. We were there around 2 something and Agustin HH doesn't start until 3pm. During their HH, everything on the menu is 20% off. Service was great, our server was wonderful and so lovely! I love the decor and feel of the place. They have the main dining section and then a bar/coffee/HH/everything else in between section. The main dining area has a feel of a fancy wine restaurant, and the HH bar area has a cozy after coffee date vibe. Food was delicious! We had the salmon, half chicken, fish and chips, and the turnip salad! Everything was delicious and their fries were very crispy. The half chicken was delicious but that takes 30 mins, FYI. Went here twice this year already once for brunch and once for dinner. The staff were friendly and helpful both times. I had the fish and chips and the shrimp and grits and both were very good. The fish was nice and crispy and there was a nice portion, the fries were really good. The shrimp and grits were so good I will be back for that. Definitely worth a try. read more

We had unneeded reservations and sat on the bar side of the restaurant, I'm guessing, to keep the foot traffic on one side of the restaurant since there were not that many patrons. It was fine and we were well taken care of the entirety of our meal. I had a yummy cosmo to start then went straight for my entree, braised short ribs served with overnight carrots and creamy, Yukon gold potatoes. The short ribs were almost as good as the ones I make. Loved the carrots and potatoes. I would have wolfed down my meal but didn't want everyone at the theater knowing what I had for dinner. I'm glad cuz leftovers stood the test of overnight in the fridge. I would love for this place to be my local go-to restaurant but it has been hit or miss for me. And it is mostly on the service side. As someone who has worked in food service in hotels and restaurants, some from opening day, I can tell you that on top of serving a quality meal, consistent service standards are key. I know. First, I loved that the tables were spaced out and you could hear everyone at your table and you didn't feel like other diners were sitting right next to you. Really pretty interior. While sitting at the bar inside Agustin Kitchen I constantly had to wave off so many gnats that were buzzing around me. I tried Agustin Kitchen's new café for brunch this morning, and I absolutely loved it! It of course has all the charm of the Mercado and Agustin Kitchen that we know and love, and adds to that a bright, fun breakfast menu and lots of pastries. It was a delicious meal in a beautiful space. We got the latke with egg and lox, the breakfast sandwich, kombucha, and an iced coffee. Everything was excellent! I especially liked the latke itself, which was a well-made, thick potato pancake that paired perfectly with the light and fresh elements of herbal cheese and greens, as well as the richer components of the egg and lox. The staff were super friendly, and it was fun to have a casual morning meal in the same space I usually think of as a special-occasion dinner restaurant. Lots of potential, but inconsistent. The flank steak was excellent, flavorful and cooked perfectly. The burger was ordinary, nothing special. The salmon was disappointingly overcooked (the sliced and grilled squash side, however, was lovely). The place has good, historic bones with bead board ceilings and paneled moulding walls. It's a bit cavernous and the main dining area is quite dark at night. One end and the kitchen are painted white and more appealing/welcoming to my senses. We ordered the pancakesm served with two, but we split them for our toddlers and they are enormous. This dish can easily be shared by two adults. I ordered the breakfast plate with scrambled eggs. It's served with toasted/butter bread, bacon and potatoes. I'm a simple breakfast type and this was satisfactory. Others ordered the caesar salad, fries and the chicken salad sandwich. We did wait a long time for our food, so there is some room for improvement there. Other areas of improvement were our beverages. I ordered the golden latte and it was quite watery. Was shopping on a Sunday in Mercado and realized we were hungry- Augustine was surprisingly empty, but the two friends I was with had been before and said it was great, so we stoped in. The space is airy and lovely, so we sat inside. There were only a few other tables occupied but it was nearly ten minutes before our water glasses were even filled. This was done by a bald gentleman who didn't say a word to us- we thought he was a busser as a result. So we were very surprised when another ten minutes passed and he showed up again and asked if we were ready. He never introduced himself, never offered to take a drink order, and let our water glasses sit empty multiple times. It was brunch, so the three of us ordered two farmer's salads and a breakfast plate. It didn't take too long for the food to arrive, and the salads were great. But the breakfast plate- which was ordered with three eggs over easy- arrive with two eggs that were flat but sort of poached, and definitely medium. They were also served in a small bowl on top of each other, making them near impossible to eat. Again, no filling our water, no checking if the food was ok, or even offering or bringing salt and pepper (which the poached eggs desperately needed). When the server dropped off the bill, we saw he'd rung in the eggs incorrectly, even though he'd repeated the order back to us when we placed it. After my first ever visit to the MSA Annex, me and my crew were looking for a chill spot to enjoy some drinks and small bites (and a reprieve from the heat!) I'd never seen of or heard this place, I just sort of stumbled upon it. And I have no regrets--it was worthwhile. The interior feels luxurious, but approachable. Ideal for small groups. The menu itself spans quite a range of New American cuisine, ranging from casual handhelds like smash burgers, to sophisticated takes on comfort foods like shrimp and grits. The scent of seafood permeated the air and gave me cravings for some sort of sea creature, so I went with the calamari. Perfectly fried, with what appeared to be some fried chiles mixed in, and garnished with a generous heap of mint and cilantro. The drizzle of fish sauce carmel really elevated this to something you can't get anywhere else. The drink selection is more than enough for whatever you're in the mood for on tap, but I was absolutely blown away with the cocktails. This was surprisingly one of the best margaritas I'd ever had in Tucson! Despite coming pretty late into the evening, service was above and beyond, and we all left happy. This is located in the Mercado district and the interior looks fairly upscale when you walk by. Prices are on the higher side and the service is slow even when they are not busy. I tried the hibiscus margarita which tasted good, but it comes in a fairly small cocktail glass. Had the fish and chips from the menu, which was just average. They do have happy hour every day from 3-5pm, but even those prices are on the high end. All in all I'm not sure that I would go out of my way to go back here. read more

Before coming to Tucson to visit my son, I had to search for a restaurant that would be open for Thanksgiving. A few days before Thanksgiving, the hostess called to confirm our reservation and informed me that it would be buffet style. The courtyard space and interior is gorgeous. It has that classy old-fashioned charm. The buffet setup excited me. Everything looked so mouthwatering. The food is New American with French influences. I am not going to list everything but omg, I had to control myself with their fresh baked Parker House rolls with whipped honey butter. Their prime rib is a winner. I am not a turkey lover but it was juicy. The mixed fruit salad was refreshing. I can tell that the string beans and carrots were homegrown. Such beautiful veggies. Each dish was well prepared. The only dish we all didn't like was the Mac & Cheese. The pasta was thick and it felt heavy. But all in all, the entire meal was absolutely wonderful. Some dishes were room temp, causing the couple next to us to request a warmer plate. This was a $100/person 5-course meal. All selections were mediocre at best and it's clear that the chef is not experienced with vegetarian dishes. I ordered a mocktail which was homemade and tasty. I would not recommend eating here as a vegetarian or vegan. Overpriced and the meals were not delicious. The dessert was cornbread. Ours was overcooked making it too hard rather than soft. The maple flavor was too much which overwhelmed the overall taste. We were definitely disappointed. Customer service was a 6/10. Very nice disposition and had great tats that he Dad did. She was very released yet attentive. Mom loved her food. I will say this, get the bread (costs 9 bucks for bread and butter with what seemed to be everything bagel spread) but it was so yummy (the bread not necessarily the butter) Mom also asked the waitress to have the bartender to suggest a glass of wine with her fish - the bill came, it was $50.00 for the glass of wine. ‍ Mom was okay with that, just a little surprised. I ordered the chicken salad without the bread. Something just didn't taste right / like it had relish in it or something. It had grapes and said apples but I didn't see or taste the apples. I had the worst stomach ache all day that lasted into the evening. I had to nurse that bad boy all night. The atmosphere is really cool but I would not go back. The Mexican place was suggested to us in that square (Seis) and it was packed but Mom didn't want to sit outside and wanted to be served instead of ordering at the counter. My fiancé and I visited Augustine's Kitchen for the first time after our engagement photo session downtown, hoping for a nice dinner. We started with the focaccia and olives, the olives were delicious, but the focaccia was bland and only two slices were served with a large bowl of olives. I originally ordered the braised short ribs, which were unavailable, so I chose the fish and chips, while my fiancé ordered the flank steak with fries. Although the dishes looked great, both lacked flavor. The fish and coleslaw were extremely underseasoned, and the sauces on the side were the only thing that added any flavor. The flank steak was cooked well but lacked a rich steak flavor. The fries, though thin, were the best item on the table. The wine spritz was excellent. Pretty disappointing experience. This place has so much potential, with a decent menu, large open space and what's appears to be a decent number of servers, but each potential plus easily goes negative quickly. The food, while presenting with very decent tastes, is completely destroyed by a kitchen that is either inexperienced or ill equipped to deal with diners that expect warm food. Every one of our dishes was served with at least one portion that was cold (like mashed potatoes that were refrigerator temperature in the middle) or below like warm (like a side of broccolini which was never warm enough to melt the shredded cheese on top). On top of which, the kitchen staff just doesn't put any effort into the preparation that would make the dishes a joy to partake....one should never serve shrimp in a shrimp & grits dish with the entire carapace and legs still on the shrimp...and you definitely shouldn't mention that this is done intentionally and that the diner can request the staff to remove the shell for an extra $5 after noticing the massive amount of work it is taking just to get to the food. The service is slow and inconsistent. Take the opportunity when your server stops by your table to order everything you want, because you won't see them again for a while. The bar staff is going to make cocktails with crushed ice, so be ready to have some watered down booze. While the space looks inviting, be careful of the standalone seats... the straw mesh really bites you. And the booths are covered in vinyl that is mostly ripped up and requires you to choose your seating area carefully. When in Tucson, your money is surely better spent elsewhere read more

Very cute place and anything in the Mercado is going to be a nice place to sit. This review is specifically for brunch. I appreciate that they could seat a larger group as a walk in but our server wasn't the best. We were actually the only other table outside of 2 others yet our server was very slow. She barely checked on us and drinks weren't refilled. We had to ask for the check early because we knew it would take forever to see her again. The automatic gratuity was not a good representation of her service. My husband and I ordered the French toast, potatoes and bacon. The potatoes were sitting in a puddle of grease and had no flavor. The bacon was hard and only the top French toast was good, because it had the icing on it. Friends who ordered eggs said they were bland but the waitress didn't come back in time for us to ask for salt and pepper. The best part of this place is the ambience. Dark lighting, modern decor, open kitchen. Love the vibe. The service was also very good. We had a reservation for 6:15 but arrived at 6 and they seated us right away. The hostess even brought some extra crayons and stickers for my toddler daughter. And when my daughter got her napkin and area especially dirty, the server playfully brought over another napkin without us requesting it. All in all, those aspects are 5 stars. With that being said though, the rest of the experience--ie the food!--was seriously lacking. The menu is extremely limited. I could not find a single thing I even wanted so I ended up getting French onion soup for $14! My husband got the spaghetti carbonara and the serving looked underwhelming in size especially for $24. We were joined by our friend and she opted for the fries and aioli. We ordered a cheeseburger for my daughter off the kids menu, mostly because I wanted to have some of it, since nothing was appealing to me.it was served with fries and those were very good. We also had an order of barrio bread and I'm shocked they charge $9 for this! The butter it came with was delicious but seriously $9?!?!? Between the limited menu with so many unappealing items, the insane price points, and the underwhelming quantity, I don't think I'll be back. Our table for 12 was ready early and they were able to accommodate all guests based on their timeframe. The staff was courteous, had great suggestions and food came out timely, and warm to everyone at the same time. I also love the fact they had Mexican Coke in a bottle. I just ordered the basic hamburger and it was so huge. I could barely get it around my mouth.
