Unfortunately, it was too early for the tartare as they only serve that during lunch/dinner hours. So we ordered an onion soup, a dozen snails, and a cheese plate. The onion soup was really good. The cheese was nice and melty and slightly charred in some spots. I shared this with my husband but I probably could have eaten two of these on my own. The snails were great as well. But I feel like 12 is a little too much for two people, but 6 wouldn't be enough. For the cheese plate, I don't remember what was on it but I remember not liking the harder cheeses and really liking the gorgonzola. I wish we found out about this place sooner so we could have tried a proper meal. If anyone gets a chance to try the beef tartare, let me know!

On my next trip , I need to come back for dinner to see the sparkling lights of the Eiffel Tower at night. We had an early lunch reservation and were able to score a corner table with a view of the Eiffel Tower. The restaurant roof is all glass so it will get warm with lots of sunlight. They do lower the shades, however, you may lose your line of sight to the Eiffel Tower. For lunch you can have the €125 prix fixe or a la carte. Prix fixe is the way to go so you can have a little of everything. The service is impeccable and the presentation of food is some of the prettiest I've seen in all my eating adventures. Our lunch began with a loaf of sourdough bread and butter. But not just any French butter. This butter was presented with great flair. A cart rolled up with a big bowl of yellow-orange colored butter under a glass dome. Our server explained that the rich butter gets it color from carotene. The French cows graze on pastures rich in fresh grass containing beta-carotene. This natural pigment gives the butter its golden hue. It was absolutely delicious! Besides the bread/butter, we had several amuse bouche. The first was a savory version of a baba au rhum with a bouillabaisse-style soup. After that was a tiered selection of different amuse-bouche. I can't remember the names because I was too busy eating. With the first course we received a layered brioche. It was rich, buttery yet light. The birthday girl opted for a la carte because she wanted the roasted pigeon. My cousin and I had the seasonal flight. The prix fixe: #1 - Smoked sardine - green bean/cherry/almond/herbal zephyr #2 - White asparagus - flame-seared/licorice/peppery shoot/bottarge #3 - Burgandy rabbit - Sea-water celtuce/cockle/Provençal herb/horseradish - Yum! #4 - Spiced strawberry - XO sauce/ grilled piquillo pepper / fresh curd cheese. Not my favorite. But we weren't done yet! We were presented with a selection of mignardises which are tiny bite-sized desserts. I was so full but had to try each one. They were delicious bites of sweet goodness. I preferred these tiny morsels of goodness over the spiced strawberry. After our desserts, my mother was presented with chocolate statute perched on top of a nutty chocolate dessert and a candle to celebrate her birthday. It was a great way to end our wonderful lunch. I recommend reservations. Lunch is pricey once you start adding champagne and cocktails.

If money is no object for you, then indulge on the setting and the perfectly decent fine dining experience. However, if value matters to you, you might be a little upset with what you're putting down at Blanc. I would urge you to consider going with the a la carte options because the tasting menu is not going to move you the way it might in other places. Everything was beautiful, and the standout course was the onion dish. Beautifully caramelized and tasty in all the right ways. The pigeon left quite a bit to be desired. I'm sure it was technically excellent, but the taste was not there. Similarly, the deserts lacked the depth and interest I want to see in this kind of experience. I'm looking for bold flavors and comfort-- not technical precision and intellectual musings on the dish. And to be fair, this probably was not the right choice for what I like. Service was totally on point, although I'm not a fan of the champagne cart that seems like it's part of the tasting but that smacks you in the face when you're forking over thousands. I'd leave you with this: know what this will and will not be going into it, and you will not be disappointed. There are many stars in the universe, so that should not be your guiding light.

We were seated by the corner table by the window. I people watched as they also have a lot of outdoor seats and I noticed they were there to have some drinks. They have specials and I ordered my entree from the board. We had the baked Brie to share -pure gooey goodness. I ordered traditional French onion soup and it was heavenly and the rump steak ordered rare as suggested with gratin. When we entered, a server directed us to the host station by the bar. My husband had printed out his email with the address & the reservation, and he had made some notes on it about things to consider on the menu. We were seated at a nice window table A woman did come right away to ask about sparkling or still water. Wines are by the glass--no bottles were listed that we saw. The server just stood over us for several minutes while we were looking at the menu, which was a little uncomfortable. So my husband explained we would need a few minutes. She seemed offended. Then the male host came over and insisted on seeing the paper my husband had with the email. He took it out of my husband's hand and started trying to read my husband's notes. I asked if there was a problem with the reservation--had they found it? The man said something about wanting to know if it was prepaid (do they do gift certificates in Paris? We had no idea what he meant). I said no, it was not, so he left again. The menu is prix fixe. A different server came to take our order. She was more upbeat and jovial. The amuse bouche was a pickled herring. I ordered the pumpkin veloute soup, which was yummy. Then I had the vegetarian plate, which was fine but not memorable: squash, mushrooms, and an egg on top. My husband ordered the sausage plate. At the end, I requested the check (l'addition"). The server asked twice if we wanted to add a tip to put on the card. I have not had that happen before in Paris, where the tipping conventions are different, and a 15% service charge is included in the prices by law. I asked if it was not included ("compris") and she said no, it was not. I did leave a cash tip. But all in all, some of those awkward moments with the staff detracted from the experience.

Where we sat looked like a library before with books all over the room. It could be that we came at a bad time, nonetheless, there's other restaurants in Paris to try before I come back to Le Fumoir.
