Le Coupe-Chou was an amazing restaurant to visit on our first night in Paris. The interior is a series of rooms that are incredibly homey and each have their own fireplace. Everything is mostly made from gorgeous old wood. We later learned from our server that the building is comprised of 4 old houses, with the oldest dating back to the 14th century! To drink, I got a Bourgogne wine and my girlfriend got a Rose. They were each our favorite wines that we got on our trip. We tried foie gras for the first time, and it was nutty and buttery. For the main dish, we got something a little less traditionally French, seared ahi tuna with wok style veggies. Even though this may not have been the restaurant's bread and butter dish, the tuna seemed very fresh and the flavor was great. For dessert, we got the vanilla puffs with chocolate sauce and almonds, and they were amazingly light little pastries. Our server was friendly and took great care of us the whole meal. This was one of our pricier meals on the trip so if you're looking for a more casual French bistro this may not be the spot, but for a charming, comfortable, and unique experience I would definitely recommend Le Coupe-Chou. read more

This was our first time at this restaurant and we were very disappointed with the service. The restaurant itself is so beautiful and full of history, but our server ruined the experience. Maybe they are new in service but they had an attitude and didn't seem to know what they were doing. They left extra wine glasses on our table making it hard to have any room for our plates, had to ask us several times what we had ordered and seemed confused, and said the chef would get really angry if we asked for any substitutions. It was the most unprofessional experience we had in Paris and we won't be returning. read more

Came here for dinner with my boyfriend around 7:15pm on a Friday night. I had made a reservation in advance and it was very nice not to have to wait. The inside of this restaurant is very cute and has really antique vibes. We sat outside on the cute street though since the ambiance there was also perfect. Service was friendly but a little slower than other places we went to during this visit. Our server forgot about our table while waiting to order dessert so we waited for a while but it was her first week and perhaps it was an isolated experience. We got some white wine which was nice and cool that was perfect on a warm evening. For food we ordered: Octopus salad: very good! One of the highlights of this meal. Very light and flavorful. Had some chopped tomatoes and onions with olive oil that was very good. The octopus itself was very well cooked, it was tender and not chewy with a very soft inside. I haven't had octopus that good in a while. Duck breast: really nice cut of duck breast which was juicy and flavorful. Came over celery root purée that complimented the flavor of the duck well as well as the fatty/velvety texture. Paired with some figs and peaches that brought really nice sweet highlights to the dish as well. A little overdone but overall still good. Bass fillet: also another good dish. The fish itself was cooked perfectly and had a really flaky and silky texture. The flavor itself was not out of this world but it was plated well and had other good elements such as the delicious beets and some lingonberries on top. Crème brûlée: very nice dessert! Crispy caramelized top over a delicious creamy flan like custard with tonka. I thought this was a very interesting twist to traditional crème brûlée but worked incredibly well. Definitely recommend this one! The tonka adds a very subtle complexity to the crème brûlée which makes it very unique and delicious. Overall I would give this place 4 stars. The ambiance and location are top notch but some dishes felt a bit flat and unimpressive to me. They were solid but nothing out of this world. Prices were higher than other things we experienced and the portions were small. Service was good if you are not rushing and are okay hanging out (which is also a very nice change of pace from places like in the US). Really cute for a special occasion! I can understand other reviewers concerns that this place is very touristy, and that it is. But as an American tourist visiting Paris it definitely scratched that itch of a beautiful meal. The server was great and spoke English well. We had the most wonderful evening here. Split a bottle of wine and it was the best escargot we had in France, wow it was so good. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Go just for that if nothing else. I had the goat cheese ravioli (I think it was an appetizer but I opted for it to be my main meal) and it was good but lacking in flavor which after how amazing the escargot was- was a bit of a let down. My friend had the risotto which was very good. To end we had the cheese which was also a bit of a bummer because they ran out of one of the cheeses, so we ended up with two pieces of camembert which is very strong! However, despite a couple of complaints I still had an absolutely wonderful experience here and the best snails of my life. We never felt rushed like we often do back home. And very much enjoyed the beautiful ambiance. If you are an American in Paris looking for good French food, a beautiful setting, and friendly service in English this is your spot. If you are a local who is annoyed by American tourists or looking for the most authentic dishes in Paris this place is probably not for you and that's okay too! read more

Cozy. Romantic. Delicious. The ambiance of Le Coupe-Chou is unmatched. The history of the building alone will leave you in awe. Not only is it by far to coziest and most beautiful atmosphere (assuming your into old wooden beams, exceptional ironwork, and little nooks and crannies to dine in, the food was equally as good. We came here as a party of 6 and even with that many people the ambiance remained. We all ordered different dishes. I had the steak which was probably the best steak I had in my time in Paris. World class. Came here on recommendations from my sister and holy cow, this place is worth the trip over and over and over again. The atmosphere here is amazing. Crackling fire, cozy private dining room vibes, impeccable friendly service. The escargot are the best I've ever had. If you're a newbie or first timer to snails and want a great experience- get them here. After we ordered them, the rest of the tables nearby did the same after seeing the presentation and smelling the buttery garlic. The risotto was awesome. The duck- which is a menu favorite- was incredible. Limited cocktail menu- I'm sure they can make whatever you wanted, but we didn't ask. Plenty of wine and liquor options as opposed to cocktails which isn't a bad thing. Bathrooms are downstairs which are private, clean and updated. 10/10. I agree with Samuel C. Although I don't think the food they serve is quite as universal but it lacked the finesse and care of a top class restaurant. We chose it because our airline LA COMPAGNIE had it on their website. Good wine by the glass and the tuna was fine but the duck came with pineapple slices and pomegranates in a light generic sauce. Absolutely no harmony. The big minus was the salad which we sent back for being unwashed. The grit was palpable. It came back with the explanation that it was salt and pepper. It wasn't; it was grit or sand. Yes it is a splendid old building and tucked away which gives it a romantic aura. Hence the rave reviews I believe. read more

Overall good meal in Paris, the portions are small and the prices aren't necessarily. Good food in amazing atmosphere (4 homes built between 13th and 15th century put together. Wonderful spot for dinner! Very cozy 17th century (or earlier) interior in a quiet part of f the neighborhood. The food was amazing. A very memorable meal, I had the foie gras and magret du canard.... Both were just excellent, the pineapple chutney with the foie gras was an amazing pairing and a nice departure from the usual fig style. The duck was perfect. Others at the table had the fish and langoustine dishes and the vegetarian one. Not the best selection for a vegetarian but everything was marvelous. Will go back again sometime. Be careful of the fireplace or where a safety helmet and I feel they missed an opportunity to shape the île floittant like a giant peep, but still a great spot. read more

I had a nice meal here while dining solo. The hotel made a reservation upon my request, and upon arriving the waiter seated me in the main dining room across from the huge fireplace. In fact, as more diners started filing in, it became apparent to me that perceived English only speakers were seated in this main dining room. Every single diner around me spoke English to the waiter. In fact, it was my relative who told me about this restaurant. She and her husband were seated right in front of the fireplace too. See other reviews and mention of this fireplace versus where their hometowns are. Notice the pattern... The locals were shuffled past us and up the small steps into their other dining rooms. Frankly I don't care for this sort of segregation of which I (and my husband) have been subjected to over the years in Paris. I've read that perhaps the reason is so that the waitstaff could communicate easier with the patrons. I don't believe that is the actual reason (I feel it's pure prejudice/biasness) & thankfully I haven't experienced it in Paris for more than two occasions. Fortunately the food itself was good: The beef bourguignon was excellent as was the starter of salad with lardons. Service was not that welcoming, but the main thing in Europe is that the server does the job well & he did. read more

Slow slow slow service. Appetizer course took 45 minutes to arrive. Soup was cold. Escargot was over cooked. After 2 hours I inquired as to the whereabouts of the rest of our meal. Only then did the waiter mention there was a huge party so the kitchen was behind. Main course took two and a half hours to make it to the table. The fillet mignon was first, not a fillet mignon. I was a very undercooked over-peppered piece of mystery meat drowned in some bland gravy. My girlfriends beef bourguignon was a bowl of broth with a couple little pieces of potato, a quarter of a carrot and about 40 grams of beef. We assumed they ran out and decided to give her all that was left rather than offer something else. We saw other people with the same dish and it was a normal portion. Nobody asked us how our meal was. They knew better. I don't write reviews like this but this was a horrible experience. SPEND YOU MONEY ELSEWHERE. The one an only thing we liked was interior of the restaurant. Very old and charming. read more

Another Left Bank spot where you can indulge in being Gil Pender, transported back in time to an old Paris... Lots of small rooms, fireplaces, and wood that must be hundreds of years old. The food, service, and wine list are fantastic. I had two big classics... escargot and beef bourguignon. Both exceptional. This place is the first located in a more calm area. The street is narrow and with limited traffic that builds the genuine feeling. Maybe we are easy to trick tourists, but it felt...French :). What we appreciated straight away was the great service. Everyone made sure we had a good time and even though language was sometimes an issue the staff made sure to correct any mistakes and check up on us at all times! Food was also a delight. The egg plant starter was great as well as the salomon (even though it's hard to serve salomon to a Scandinavian ;)). The lamb for main was great and to especially liked the innovative touch with pumpkin and orange. Creme brûlée did not disappoint us together with the coffee! If you want to transport yourself out of the city, this Parisian Restaurant is the answer. It begins with the approach. The restaurant is tucked away at the end of a narrow street. It's flickering lights lead the way. Once you step in you feel like you've been invited to a friend's country cabin. Warm and inviting with big overstuffed chairs and collected objects through out. The restaurant is comprised of a series of rooms just like you would find in a home. With steps along the way and the lighting low you need to be attentive to your footsteps. The staff is friendly and professional. The food is flavorful traditional French fare with hearty portions. We had wonderful escargots and crusty French bread. Our entrees were delicious and hearty cassoulet and duck. The dessert was an amazing Napoleon which I had never seen done that way before. The dinner was paired perfectly with very good French wine.
