Le Bouillon, is hands down the best brunch I've had in Omaha, and one of the better meals. All of the food was interesting and fantastic, the old French Cafe building has been updated to a much more open but comfortable atmosphere, the service was outstanding and the cost was reasonable. I might start eating there every Sunday, and I expect I'll see everyone of you there too! But don't go all at once, I hate waiting in lines. read more

Everything was great! The only issue I had was my duck. It was less than stellar. Cocktails, wine, appetizers, and the steak were fantastic.

Dined here while visiting from Denver. Our standards are high! Great wine but food fell short. We started with oysters, charcuterie with praline, grilled romaine salad, and pork belly. The appetizers were excellent. For the main course I had scallops and my husband had the waygu hanger steak. My scallops were over salted and lukewarm and paired with rice crackers (what?) and my husbands steak was cold. We sent the steak back, and it came back lukewarm. Grilled romaine salad was covered with extra salty anchovy dressing - could have been better with less dressing. Service was very poor - we had to flag our waitress down multiple times to order, for water refills and other things a waitress in a classy restaurant should catch. Overall the meal was subpar and we left with a $300 bill. Beautiful atmosphere and restaurant concept - Lovely artwork, just poorly executed. Will try a different restaurant the next time. read more

We had a wonderful time at this lovely little restaurant. Sitting at the bar and chatting with the nicest young man who was preparing oysters and other raw tidbits was the highlight of our night. Having the choice between East or West coast oysters and being able to mix them and compare was a plus. Upscale but not uppity. Ambiance was perfect. Will definitely return. read more

My wife and I were on our way home to Tucson, Arizona. We spent 2 nights in Omaha. Had a marvelous dinner last evening at Le Bouillon. It is located in the trendy Market Area where there are many many restaurants. We walked in that area earlier in the day checking out various places where we might have dinner that evening. Le Bouillon looked like the kind of restaurant we might like. After reviewing the menu we made a decision to go there. We shared an delicious appetizer of angolitti stuffed with lamb sausage, followed by an outstanding burger made with a combination of beef, lamb and pork . It was served with their homemade chips and a salad with a good homemade vinaigrette. For wine we selected a terrific Beaujolais that we greatly enjoyed. The waitress we had was perfect. She provided great advice about both the food and wine, and had a warm, friendly personality. If I ever return to Omaha I will make sure to return to Le Bouillon and strongly recommend it to others. We had a very special dinner. Service, food and wine were exceptional. The seasonal morel mushrooms appetizer was unbelievable.

The food at this restaurant is very good. Though there is nothing about the beignets that is like a donut. It is more like a salad with fried lobster claws. Delicious. Portion control seems to be a problem. The grilled romaine salad, a small plate is enough to serve four. The gnocchi,a large plate, is barely a small plate. I asked about a charcuterie plate for a large event. They could not prepare one for six people but brought one to show us that then was taken to another table. Salami appetizer was sliced so thinly that you could see throughout it. A very poor value. Two of our party were going to a concert beginning at 7:30. They arrived at 5:50 at the restaurant. And their dinner was served at 7:30. Enough time for two bites. We will not return. read more

We went for brunch. The restaurant atmosphere is to die for. Love the high ceilings and gray theme. Very elegant. As instructed by prior review, we got the pastry basket. The pastries were amazing. Light, flavorful and fresh. They came with a rhubarb jam. That was a disappointment. Who likes rhubarb?! The French toast was very good, but somewhat too sweet. Service was excellent and prompt. Came twice in one day....great food...amazing service! Couldn't recommend it more. Sit at the bar and enjoy the great bar service.

This establishment has a rich and interesting history. The staff treat this place like their own which is rare. Every person, from the female host, to the bartender, and the man who served the oysters at the bar also apparently "bar manager?" All were prideful in the restaurant. Offering wine samples, food samples( man was shucking oysters and slicing meat) offered a slice and an oyster taste after telling us all the flavors we would taste. Obviously we purchased both. Great service. You feel like you're either a celebrity or right at home. Owner made a great choice in ALL staff! Might I add I made and cancelled my reservation 2 times! Each! Again- great staff simply smiled each time and said thank you. Also- met the owner don't remember his name second night- who surprisingly for a steak breakfast didn't hesitate to suggest AND make a reservation to a different establishment why? Because he was honest enough when we asked where can we have a great steak suggest somewhere else. Not to say they don't have great steak-we didn't order any. We did try mostly their entire menu which is very French and VERY good! read more

I'm going to say "so-so". Our waitress was ok but not great. I was expecting great service and we didn't get it. The restaurant was only about 1/3 full so I expected more. I think the menu is very limited so it was hard to order. Ended up getting the Heritage pork which was ok, not great. Desserts were very good. I doubt I'll go back. I've been here several times for drinks and dessert, both have been consistently solid. The service is excellent, professional and attentive. The cocktails are perfectly balanced, and the pots de creme, canneles, and gateau basque are all incredible. We were given a complimentary dessert wine that paired really well with the chocolate pots de creme, so good! The bar is always bustling and inviting. glad i got to eat here after the French Cafe closed. the food is good. and so is the ambiance. i sat outside to have dinner and it was so nice. the menu isn't super big, but there are specials daily and happy hour. some of the food on the menu some people may not like due to the options, but i enjoyed everything we had. read more

My wife and I had reservations at 6 but when we got there we saw we really didn't need them. There were a ton of open tables and got one right away out on the patio. Our waitress was very friendly and knowledgable on the menu and specials. We ordered our food a few minutes after sitting, a couple starters and two entrees. For how few people were there when we arrived, we expect d the food to come out faster than it did. Our starters were a half dozen oysters and hummus and pickled vegetables on toast. It took about 20-25 minutes to get these. After we finished the starters it took about another 30 minutes to receive our entrees. I had the wagyu hangar steak and my wife had the cod special. I think my steak was sitting for a while before being brought out to me because it was a little cold. After the entrees came out was when they brought the bread and butter too, so that was a little strange. It would have been nice to have when we were waiting. Overall the food was good, the staff was nice, but unless you have an 1 1/2 hours and don't mind waiting for your food you may want to look somewhere else. Having eaten in some fabulous French restaurants, it pleases me to see a fine French restaurant in the old market. The food was good, not great, but the service was wonderful. The tortilla however was not the Spanish tortilla I expected as it lacked any potato what so ever. Oyster selection was great. read more

This is our opinion and don't normally write bad review.....[Maybe it started when I asked to be seated at a different table]...My wife and I stopped in for lunch about noon, with the restaurant about 1/2 full. They were going to seat us at a table by the front door and she felt it was a little chilly there so I asked if we could go to another table. The waiter said "you can sit at any table you want", maybe it was the tone and the way it was phrased. Someone came and poured our waters and a few minutes later our waitress came and asked if she could start us with drinks. I said water was ok for me at noon and my Wife order a glass of wine and we ordered our food. We ordered their French Onion soup, which has been highly recommended and a hamburger. I asked to hold any condiments on the burger and she said let me explain our hamburger. She started to describe their burger with beef, lamb, pork in it and I said is their anything else on the burger. At this point she held up her hand and said, let me finish. That was a little rude we felt. So our order was turned in, I think. Then it went downhill from there. It was at least 10-15 minutes and no wine, so we asked another waiter, since our waitress had not been back, about the wine. He said he would check on it and did bring the wine. We continued to wait and after being in the Restaurant for 40 minutes called our waitress over and asked about our order. She said they only do the French Onion soup in orders of 2. I said, is that the delay. Her response was, it was probably the hamburger since I had ordered it medium well. Our response was we have been waiting for about 40 minutes and new the time since we had used the parking app for the parking meter so it shows on our phone. Her response was, "it hasn't been 40 minutes". Possibly it wasn't 40 minutes since the order was turned in but we had been in the restaurant for 40 minutes. Seems a little long to get a hamburger. The hostess returned shortly after that with our food. After a few minutes she returned and asked how everything was. My wife and I had just discussed the food and felt the soup was not the best we have had so I responded it was "ok" and commented on the service and the time we had to wait. She said, " just ok"? Yes, just ok, we have had better. I have always felt, if you don't want an honest answer then don't ask the question. She left and returned with a small dish and 4 quarters in it, and said, this is for the parking meter. I said, I don't need your quarters, we had only referred to the parking meter to verify the time. The atmosphere was very nice as to the building but the service was very "arrogant" and rude and felt the food was average. A restaurant experience should be one of enjoyment with good food and service. This was our experience and everyone should make their own opinion... went there for lunch last week.. my husband ordered a margarita and bartender didn't know how to make it.. we then ordered the duck pate but since he cant eat sourdough bread asked for ANY other kind of bread and she told us they didn't have any other bread and could give us crackers.. paid for our glass of wine and walked across the street... never again read more

Let me start by saying I'm generally not one to complain and I NEVER write restaurant reviews, like literally ever, but something made me feel so inclined this one time. Where do I even begin? After being seated by the pleasant hostess, we waited nearly 10 minutes before the waiter even stopped by our table to give us menus and water. We thought maybe it was because we were at least 3 generations younger than the average patron here. However, in his defense, the restaurant was relatively busy and they seemed to be short staffed. A little annoyed at this point, but quickly forgiven, I get how it can be in a busy restaurant. After perusing the menu at length the imperial wagyu steak entree for 2 caught our eye. When the waiter returned we asked him to tell us more about the dish. Commence an elaborate story about how this is a premiere cut of Wagyu beef (22 ounces in total) encased in a thick layer of fat which helps hold in the moisture and flavor, and cut into relatively thin strips. What is so special about this meat, we are told, is the way that it is relaxed in a special marinade with a blend of unique seasonings. The dish is prepared only one way, medium rare, and takes 30 minutes we are warned. It is garnished with anchovie butter and fried capers. The steak is served with an arugula salad and pomme frites, which are blanched first and then flash fried in truffle oil to ensure a crispy outside and soft inside. $65, the most expensive entree on their menu. Wow, I'm already salivating and we can't wait. We place our order and anxiously await this culinary experience. In the interim, he notices us admiring the art work on the wall and drops off a laminated information sheet explaining the artist's work, a nice touch. Fast forward 30 minutes. The dish arrives with a stunning presentation. We each take a strip of steak to our plates and begin cutting into the first bite. This is where the experience took an interesting turn. The knives we were given were not any better than the Oneida butter knives I have in my kitchen at home, no exaggeration. Serrations so fine you need a magnifying glass to see them. It takes a tremendous amount of pressure, force, and fine wrist work to make a single cut into this meat; at least a solid 45 seconds to get completely thru it one time and again it is sliced relatively thinly. We both don't dare say a word out loud initially and are silently watching one another struggle, gripping the silverware as if we're sliding off of a cliff, chasing our sliding plates around the table. Upon hitting the palate the meat is anything but tender as would be expected with a good quality Wagyu. Incredibly tough to chew is an understatement and there are pieces so tough that we had to spit them back out unable to swallow; very reminiscent of the turkey scene in Christmas Vacation. When the waiter stopped by to ask how the meal was we awkwardly asked for better steak knives. After a long pause and confused stare, we were told those were the best knives they had and he would have offered us something better if they had them, which begs the question: what the hell did the chef use to cut the meat into strips!? Additionally, he literally says he "doesn't want to give us a lesson in knife cutting," but then proceeds to do just that and suggests that rather than trying to cut with force we should be using what he terms "gentle pressure." Bless his heart, this isn't my first nice steak dinner and less is not more with these knives. This steak needs a Bob Villa Sawsall. I'm obviously being a little dramatic but you get the point. All of this being said the arugula salad was delicious, the pomme frites were out of this world, and the beef did have excellent flavor. The real issue here was the cut of meat being incredibly and unexpectedly tough and the knives that were ill equipped for the task at hand. Again, I'm not one to complain and didn't want to put him on the spot so when he stopped by a final time to ask how it was, we both said delicious and didn't elaborate further. We paid the bill in full, left a modest tip, and didn't ask for a discount or coupon. But the least I thought I could do is write a review to save others from this disappointing entree (not to mention save your jaw and teeth!). This experience was very disappointing because we had eaten here once before and the food was excellent that time. Forgive and forget I guess, maybe the chef's wife just left him for their plumber and he was having an off day. I'd be lying if I said we didn't leave and walk a few blocks to get appetizers after this expensive meal. read more

I wish I could tell you more about my experience @ Boullion. Unfortunately there is not much to tell. we arrived without reservations on a Sunday morning and expected a wait, what we didn't expect was to be totally ignored by the host. He totally blew us off. There was one party in line ahead of us and he appeared to have lost their reservation. Instead of greeting us and saying someone will be with you momentarily he acted as though we weren't there. We waited at least 5 minutes and were never acknowledged even though he returned to the host station several times and was only two feet from us. The restaurant wasn't even near capacity. We finally set a timer for 1 ( additional ) minute to give him a chance to address us....... the timer went off, we walked out without ever once speaking to anyone in the restaurant. Again, there was only one other party in line. A simple hello would have worked wonders. As it was we ate @ one of the many other downtown restaurants. Your loss Boullion, That was our big meal for the weekend, and we dropped serious change @ your competitors. read more

This is one of those restaurants that you want to come back to, it is small , and many hipsters like to come here just overlook them .. but so do families, and business groups. Everything is so fresh, just incredible taste, and you can tell the owners truly want you to have an amazing experience. The Cassoulet is worth the calories... one of those dishes where rude family members try to steal from, hold strong and say no . When we were there we saw two young men with baskets of morel mushrooms, which of course the owner said.. of course we want them, must say that is one of the things I love about this area, we get lucky with mushrooms sometimes, and hope our favorite restaurants do as well. Tried the Beet Salad in Caper Vinaigrette, I liked it and would get again . Grilled Piedmontese Beef Ribeye is worth the wait, and we fed 3 people from it, and everyone enjoyed it. I trust the wait staff in their pairings, they never have disappointed us. read more
