Unfortunately, it turned into one of the most disappointing tasting room visits we've had. The biggest issue was the complete lack of hospitality and awareness toward an older woman in our group recovering from knee surgery. There was no accommodation, no concern, no acknowledgment whatsoever. Instead of any table service or attentiveness, we repeatedly had to get up and walk inside the tasting room over and over for every single pour. By the end of the tasting, we got more steps in than a cattle drive. The two ladies working behind the counter looked like they were counting the minutes until closing time. No smiles. No energy. No effort to educate us about the wines, engage with guests, or make anyone feel welcome. We honestly felt more like an inconvenience than paying customers. I've seen friendlier expressions on bulls during branding season. What makes this especially frustrating is that the tasting room wasn't even busy -- there were maybe three other couples there besides our group. This wasn't staff being overwhelmed. It simply came across as lazy, disengaged, and rude service. The only thing flowing less than the hospitality was the wine pours. What surprised us most is that we've visited several other local wineries in the area over the years and have consistently experienced warm hospitality, friendliness, and genuine customer care. So this experience really stood out -- and not in a good way. Usually wine country feels welcoming. Here, we felt like a herd that wandered into the wrong pasture. Such a shame because the location and concept have so much potential, and we really wanted to support a local winery so close to home. Sadly, our guests left just as disappointed as we did. Their outdoor tasting room overlooks hilltop views and if you're lucky you might be able to see a train drive on by too. The setup includes adirondack chairs and tables outside. They offer tastings as well as glasses ($10 each) and bottles that range from $27-$30. I tried their 2023 Grenache Blanc, 2023 Malbec Rose, Mix Red Blend, 2021 Barbera & 2019 Primitivo. All the wines tasted great and had a good complexity. Happy Dayz is a family owned winery with a husband and wife duo. They love their craft, which you can tell from their wines and the overall experience they provide. They are only open select weekends so be sure to check their website and social media for those details. In addition to offering great wines a wonderful experience, they give back to a local non-profit in Sacramento called GiGiś Playhouse and donate 21% of all Malbec Rosé sold. The 5k was fun, we got to run the paths around the property, the views were awesome, the path was clearly marked with flags & arrows, at the finish line we celebrated with a glass of wine and a cool medal. I was greeted with a glass of their bubbly which was refreshing on a warm day, and who doesn't like a glass of bubbly?! The owner/winemaker was there. She was very friendly and hospitable. They had live music on the patio which was a nice touch. The views, especially from the member's seating area, were spectacular. It's called Hill Top for good reason. The general outside tasting area was nice and shady. They also have an indoor tasting room. They had a good selection of wines from which to choose for a tasting, or you could enjoy a glass or bottle. I particularly enjoyed the Cabernet franc which is from a local vineyard. Def give them a try.
