Very few restaurants get everything right. This one did, and then some. I must say, our server had A-LOT to do with our amazing experience. His name was either Taylor or Tyler. His personality felt very real...like he was at our table just taking to a couple of his buddies. He was very passionate about the quality of the food and gave great recommendations. He chatted with us a bit about non-food related things (where we were from, what brought us into town, why I didn't like my beer, the cowboys game, etc.). When he boxed our leftovers, he even put the date on it so we'd know when not to eat it. We watched the staff while we were dining. Noticed how everyone seemed to get along and be helping each other out. Even though it was fairly slow, no one was just sitting around doing nothing. The staff moved around, checking on/chatting with teammates at the bar and in the kitchen. Cleaning/organizing here and there along the way. Even if there wasn't much to be done they kept the appearance of looking productive. Now, the food! Even despite the 5-Star staff this place still could earn a 5-Star rating on the quality and price of the food alone. Everything was so good. Big portions too! We tried the fried gator, which is the best we've found in Texas yet. I forget the name of the Burger but it's the spicy one...and listen to your server when they say "it's spicy." I love spicy food but it was pretty intense. Great beer selection. Save room for dessert! Key lime pie was really yummy. We'll try the bread pudding next time. Restaurant was clean and well laid out. Nice open space. Could accommodate large or small groups. Overall our experience was superb. We will be back! read more

Well. I have to say this was one of the most disappointing decisions ever. Arrived in Amarillo tired and hungry. Husband wanted catfish and this place was highly rated. HA! We ordered catfish and fried shrimp. Both were to come with "gator fries." Neither did. We paid extra for Caesar salads, both arrived with no dressing. Lettuce is brown and sad. Shrimp portion was so small it was funny, but my husband was so worried that I wouldn't have enough (sans fries and salad) that he insisted on giving me a piece of catfish. Some really great Cajun food! The crawfish gumbo wasn't what I expected, it was better, with plenty of crawfish plus fresh corn kernels. Very tasty, as was the blackened catfish. And I lived there version of a wedge salad (done with romaine instead of iceberg). We did take out, everything stayed hot and yummy. read more

I have to agree with James S. that some red beans and rice would have hit the spot but that's a side note. I wanted to order the red snapper but they were out which is no big deal. Stocking enough fresh fish is difficult and I understand. They offered me swordfish off menu which I happily accepted. The fish was perfectly cooked but was served warm instead of hot. Minor details because the rest of the meal was spot on. My wife had the mahi mahi with the white sauce and steamed veggies and enjoyed it. The service was very sub par. Our waitress was Ashli and she spent a lot of time visiting with one particular table. She didn't get my order right and forgot the salad completely. When we finished and were ready for the check she was off visiting again. Over all it was an OK experience but I think they have better in them. Overall the food is very good, but the Jambalaya had no seafood as described in the menu, that's the downside of takeout: you can't really check the content or at least get clarification. The food was ready on time, but there's no utensils when I checked around. This is actually a good practice, as if I were to take it home, I don't need utensils and no point to create unnecessary wastes. Yet since we were on the road we did need them. I ordered 4 meals for 3 person. I first checked the gumbo and there's no spoon, so I asked the waitress. She right away brought me one set of utensils. Only one. I then asked about forks and she said it's in the set. I told her then I need 3 sets and she seemed upset. Did I expect too much if the waitress can assess the total order or just ask? First time going here. I had the blackened catfish with the white sauce. Freakin good. Wife had fried shrimp and said it was good. Keylime pie was very good as well. Priced average and well among many other similar restaurants in Amarillo. 2 entrees, 1 dessert and 1 beer was $46. Our waiter was excellent. I cant remember his name but he is tall with a man bun. Ordered the fried gator appetizer. When it came it was a terrible disappointment. The meat had an unusual texture. Unlike any gators I have ever had. Entrees were so so. One was crawfish po boy hold the slaw. It arrived with. Gumbo was watery with no meat and clumpy rice. Grilled chicken salads were served with a bowl of roughly chopped iceberg lettuce a couple pieces of tomato and a complete grilled chicken breast dropped on top, not sliced, diced or chopped. It's been 4 years since we've been through Amarillo. We made this our stopover headed back to East Texas. Of course Lazy Gator was on our "to do" list. It did not disappoint. I was very impressed with this restaurant and really don't have anything negative to say. I ordered the catfish with Alfredo sauce and shrimp and crawfish, and my girlfriend got the crawfish gumbo. We also got the gator bites as an appetizer. All were very good and had that great Cajun spiciness. The fish was cooked perfectly and the gumbo broth was rich and delicious. Lazy Gator always has consistently well cooked and delicious food. They are generous with their portions of fish, and the staff is always very helpful. We came in on Saturday during lunch time. We ordered the gator appetizer which comes with fried gator bites and fries. The fries were pretty good, but I think the gator bites would have been better with some kind of Cajun sauce on it. It was good but just needed a little more to set it aside from chicken nuggets. I ordered the Black Cat Bayou and my sister ordered the Chicken Alfredo pasta. Both were so full of flavor and my catfish was not dry at all. The Cajun sauce has an amazing flavor and the rice underneath was cooked just right. I also enjoyed the shrimp and crawfish on top of my catfish. We tried the lazy gator out a couple of times now, and both times have been thoroughly satisfied with the food and service. Both times table touches were done by managers as well as our servers. Our food has always been hot and our drinks have always been cold the children's burger is a good size my son couldn't finish that and it's even a great size portion on the kids popcorn shrimp if you want to bring little ones.
