Delicious Flourless Chocolate Cake

We had such a wonderful dinner tonight! The metropolitan has an inviting speakeasy feel with elegant and comfortable seating and decor. Our family of 5 started the evening with some mocktails (pineapple dreamsicle) and 2 Cadillac margaritas. All were well done and very tasty! We then shared the fried shrimp cocktail and the Crab Elotes appetizers - both were delicious! For dinner, 3 of us had the filet mignons and the other 2 the prime chicken fried steak - again, delicious! Steaks were cooked to medium rare perfection and the chicken fried steak was one of the best we have ever had! Our grand finale was ice cream and the flourless chocolate cake. So good!! You have to break the outer chocolate shell on the cake to get to the soft moist center. We loved it! Our waiter Jon did an outstanding job! He made great recommendations and we never lacked for anything. We thoroughly enjoyed the evening and experience and will be sure to return!

Service was just okay, but we all know there is a shortage in the service industry right now so let us give them all a break. First off, this place is adorable. One part of the restaurant is dark and comfy and has that speakeasy vibe for sure. The other part of the restaurant is bright, open, airy and super comfortable. We were seated on the bright side, which for a Sunday brunch was perfect. We were seated in a corner booth area that was made with crushed-like blue velvet seating with fun throw pillows. The TV at the bar appears to only play in black and white so it was weird to watch football that way. At the same time that totally went with the vibe this place has created. Sleek, modern with dark and bright colors that balance the place. The food was fantastic. The pancake board is brilliant. It comes with pancakes and all the fixings you could want: peanut butter, nuttela, chocolate chips, bananas, syrup, fruit, nuts and butter. I could have filled up on that, but I had ordered a belgian waffle with the berry compote. The berries were tart, but gave it a good flavor and made the waffle gooey. If I were ever in Amarillo again, I would definitely re-visit this place.

Well what a great surprise! This place is a must visit. We were in town to visit the Paloduro Canyon State Park. It's the weekend after Valentine's and I owe my wife for putting up with me. You need reservations! This place is not large and was packed. We had the crab cakes for an appetizer. They were yummy. I do have to add that I probably had the best old fashioned I have ever had! I had a Cesar Salad, my wife the wedge. She really loved the bacon! My wife went with the fillet and I tried the sea bass. All side are family style and I appreciate they have portion sizes for 2 or 4. My wife said this was the best steak she ever had. Better than Perry's or Ruth Chris. My sea bass was piping hot, yet not over done. It had a lemon crust that made the dish. The wait staff was kind and on point. The food came out quickly, the water glasses were always full, and we were checked upon often enough to ensure we were taken care of. I don't often give out 5 stars. They earned it.

Popped in here for a sneaky cocktail and are so glad we did. Such a gorgeous speakeasy, beautifully decorated and super engaging staff. However, the cocktails here stole the show. We ordered the Corpse Reviver and The Tracy - both were amazing, super punchy and very well balanced. Special thank you to Paige and James for looking after us :)

Ok, so come here for the food. It's good. We stopped by for brunch on a Sunday and sat on the patio. Weather was perfect so we figured, why not sit outside!? The flies were really bad out there. Our waitress did a good job trying to mitigate it by clearing plates from our table as soon as we were done. I had the waffles with quail. I almost didn't order it because the menu said it came with 2 quail quarters. Two quarters is only half a quail, which would not be very much meat. Luckily I went ahead and ordered it and it was actually 2 halves (one whole quail). It was nicely presented and tasted really good. I finished both the quail and the waffles. I highly recommend that dish.

Four of us for dinner last night. Service was excellent and entertaining however we all agreed we've had better steaks for the price. Disappointing.

Located on the west side of Amarillo, Pondaseta's black brick building is sharp and modern for an older city like the Yellow City. Inside, there are two large spaces. The main space is their taproom, where the back wall features a row of taps with all of their in house beers. There was a duo playing music in the other room, and there was a few other groups there. We played a very competitive game of Go Fish and really enjoyed the space there. For my first beer, I ordered the Mind The Gap, which was a bitter in an English pub style. I love a malty beer and it reminded me of some of my favorites. My girlfriend got a Pecan Porter that she really liked. It was dark and roasty. My next beer was their Tea Pilsner, which I never knew was a style of beer. This one was infused with hibiscus tea and I thought it was good. My girlfriend got their cherry lime seltzer. Not for me, but she enjoyed it. I will definitely be back the next time I am in Amarillo based on how great the drinks were. Thank you, Pondaseta. I was visiting Amarillo for about a…read moreweek to spend time with my girlfriend and her family in her hometown, and I wanted to treat her to a nice dinner. She suggested a few places, but she heavily emphasized Public House as the restaurant to take her to. We had a reservation at 7:15 pm on a Friday and arrived just a few minutes early. They were very busy and we had to wait an additional 15 minutes to get seated. The waitstaff was super apologetic, but it was also college graduation night for some, so it was simply very busy. We were seated in their main dining room, though the reservation had options for their lounge and their bar as well. Our waitress came by with a carafe of water and gave us their drink menu. For starters, I ordered a Blue Bumble Bee and my girlfriend ordered the Harvest Martini. It was very fruity and herbal. Their cocktails ranged between $11 and $15. They also had an extensive draft list available on Untappd and plenty of wine options. As an appetizer, my girlfriend really wanted their Fried Cheese Curds, which she described as amazing. They were served with ranch and a raspberry habanero jelly that was very good. The fruity sweetness hits first, with the habanero flavor coming in on the back end and sneaking up on you. The curds themselves were excellent. They were perfect to share for two, but I think they would be unsatisfying for more than three. We both ordered a side Caesar salad made with their house Caesar dressing, parmesan chips, croutons, and parmesan cheese. You can always taste a fresh salad and this was proof of that. I liked it a lot and ate the entire thing. For our main entrees, my girlfriend ordered the Lamb Lollipop Chops. They are listed as an appetizer, but the four lamb chops were filling enough for her. I ordered the special of the day, a Beef Wellington served with seasonal vegetables of chopped sweet potatoes and asparagus. The Wellington also came with mashed potatoes. It was recommended medium rare, which is how I ordered it. I thought it was really delicious. I am still thinking about how doughy and flavorful it was, especially with the prosciutto. Our waitress mentioned they had sold out of it every night for the past few nights. Both the Lamb Chops and the Beef Wellington were market price. Everyone acts gangster until those MKT prices turn into $45 for an entrée. I am usually the one ordering something cheaper than my girlfriend so I can jokingly say she is expensive, but when her entrée was $29 and mine was $45, I could only clown myself. All of this still came in under $180 before tip, and there were plenty of more affordable options on the menu. Two standard entrees, two salads, an appetizer, and two drinks could easily keep your bill under $100 before tip, which makes Public House approachable for a nice night out. If you thought we were done, you would be surprised. For dessert, we debated between their crème brûlée special with strawberries and their Ooey Gooey Butter Cake. When we asked our waitress, she immediately recommended the Ooey Gooey Butter Cake with no hesitation, so that is what we ordered. I had never had one before and was impressed by its flavor. It was served with plenty of whipped cream and reminded me of fried cheesecake in terms of texture. Side note, my girlfriend told me the ooey gooey part of its name refers to the type of butter cake and is not just a silly name, so I will continue to refer to it by its full name out of respect. We also ordered dessert cocktails, with both of us choosing the Kevin McAllister, which was described as an adult apple juice. It was made with a house made caramel infused vodka that was excellent. It truly lived up to the description and paired well with the dessert. I would definitely return to Public House the next time I am back in Amarillo. It was a fantastic dinner to share with someone I love. The staff were attentive and on point, and once we were seated everything moved efficiently despite the short wait. As we walked out of the restaurant, I took a picture of my beautiful girlfriend in front of the Public House sign. A couple asked if we wanted our picture taken. I said, "No, I just wanted to admire her for a moment." After a good meal with the one you love, that is sometimes all you need. RIYL: treating that someone special to a good meal in Amarillo, Texas
